Benjamin Morrison Remembers His Moment In The Cincinnati Sun

Strong start to 2026.
Aside from linebacker Josiah Trotter blowing up in his first NFL game, outperforming Derrick Brooks and matching T.J. Watt, an even more surprising outcome came on the defense.
Joe, and just about every Bucs fan, was concerned Sunday about the best one-two punch in the NFL, Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, lighting up the Bucs secondary.
When Jacob Parrish went down with a back injury after just 20 snaps, Joe could hear the collective gasp of Bucs fans all the way up in Cincinnati. That meant Benjamin Morrison would have to stop Chase and/or Higgins.
Morrison, since he was drafted by the Bucs in the second round last year, didn’t show his worth in his rookie season. His play had been, well, meh — when he was healthy enough to get on the field. Morrison has spent more time in the tub.
Between being unremarkable on the field and hurt most of the time, Bucs fans were about to write Morrison off as a swing-and-miss.
Then came last Sunday. Morrison played 43 snaps and he helped shut down Chase and Higgins. Chase basically did nothing (two catches, 12 yards [!]). Neither Chase nor Higgins (3 catches, 59 yards) found the end zone.
What many thought would have been a disaster turned out to be a strength. So in a span of about two hours, the Bucs corners stopped looking so thin. And Morrison looks like a player.
Morrison this week was asked about seizing the moment.
“Just being out there, being confident in myself … going out there and playing football, having fun,” Morrison said. “I mean, that’s all I can ask for.”
Morrison said he wasn’t worried or intimidated squaring up on Chase and Higgins. Instead, he was locked in at the gargantuan task.
“I have a confidence in myself,” Morrison said. “I don’t like to get too caught up on the receivers, but, I mean, those are two world-class receivers. You can’t deny that. Those are two great receivers, so obviously that helps a little bit.
“At the end of the day, the NFL is week-to-week. What I did last week, I [have] to carry it over this week, you know what I’m saying?”
There’s no time to savor the accomplishment, Morrison said. That’s because professionals don’t do that.
“I can’t really hold my head too high on that because it’s back to work,” Morrison said. “We’re onto the Cleveland Browns.”
Joe thinks Morrison gets it. He can’t start living in the past; even though the Browns are slop, they are in the NFL. Receivers, even on tanking teams, will make dudes pay who think they’ve got it figured out.

I said once Benjamin Morrison get healthy, he will be our best CB
He was a Top-5 CB as a true freshman at Notre Dame
Then came the injuries, and they set him back
If he stays healthy ….. he’s our best CB

I understand the fan frustration with his injuries but his college tape definitely warranted a 2nd round grade even with the injury concerns. His injuries were unique because they were hereditary. He had to get both hips operated on because they weren’t getting the proper blood flow. He had to get it corrected and somehow he still managed to put some of the best outside cb tape I’ve seen in years. I think the Bucs knew the first year was going to be a recovery one. And It’s not uncommon to have soft tissue issues when you’re ramping up after 2 years of surgery. Hopefully fans can judge him from this point on. I think the Bucs got a good one. It just took a little patients.

Guys, we were lamenting and lambasting this D before this season started, and most of us said, “We just GOTTA see some improvement in the D.” (Or else the DC gets launched).
Well, against elite WR’s, we DID see some improvement, and for me, that’s something positive to build upon going forward.
Now, about the equipment guy who hands out cleats… 😉

I agree with you Stanglassman, I think Morrison is just going to get better from here onward. The kid has a good head on his shoulders and he knows what he’s got to do.

I’m more worried about our linebackers not named Josiah. Need some serious improvement, and fast. Hockenson is coming to town next week and will be looking to exploit that!

Sorry Joe, but I don’t consider the Browns to be SLOP at all. And I don’t buy for a second that they’re a TANKING TEAM. Any NFL team IMO is capable of beating any other NFL team on any given weekend. Denigrating your opponent BEFORE you even play them lessens the victory IF you win, and sours the loss even more IF you lose.
In the past 50 years, there have been slightly over 12,000 NFL regular season games played. Only 3 teams have won ZERO games during a regular season in those 50 years:
o 1976 season: Bucs went 0-14.
o 2008 season: Lions went 0-16.
o 2017 season: Browns went 0-16.
Ironic that 2 of those 3 teams are playing each other this Sunday for the right to potentially repeat their previous accomplishment.

Waaay beyond scary. Christian Rozeboom has been practicing FULL for the past week now, so I’d assume his foot injury is pretty much fixed. He started 15 games for the Panthers last season, and started 11 games for the Rams year-before-that. I’d MUCH rather see him in there than SVD.

He looked like a a professional corner. I’ve had faith. It’s not that he played well. To me, he looked the part. His instincts were on full display. His athleticism was obvious. His read and react was very solid. In my opinion, he looked more of the part based on the eye test than Parrish did last season in his first start. It’s something about BMo that says good corner. When I see a corner dicing though blockers to make a tackle and also not afraid of covering a receiver in man-man, it’s encouraging. I’m encouraged. Let’s keep that up. Go Bucs!!!

The Bucs lost at home to the Atlanta Falcons last season
After the Falcons gifted them 19 penalties, 125 yards
The Falcons gave the Bucs every opportunity to win
And the Bucs just refused to win
They couldn’t beat a self destructive team that committed 19 penalties

morrison looked really good last sunday…
and when we drafted him, the pundits etc, seemed even higher on him than parrish…so he was turning out to be a big flopper, up until last sunday…
maybe just maybe, the injury bug really simply slowed the kid down – and now he’s ready to roll on all cylinders…
how nice would that be…!

Rookie fans here at Joe Bucland.
You can’t write off rookies, especially CBs who didn’t have an off-season.
Go back in history of just the Bucs. Many very good, even HOFers, were not good as rookies at CB. Barber, Kelly, Dwight Smith, Abraham…they all had there struggles at the position as rookies.
Idiots using the “bust” word are clueless at times.

People on this site are hilarious, sooooo many people hated the Trotter pick and all wanted ” their draft pick instead ” ( he was arguably the best Defensive player on the field for the Bucs!) And everybody wanted Morrison cut after last year, and this years early injury again, and now are raving about how he shut down one of the best receivers in the league! I only hope they blather on about Baker, after he scorches the Browns into submission! GO BUCS!
