Tristan Wirfs Would Get A Haul

There is just no way this happens. No way. Even Joe typing about it makes Joe want to run and take another shower.
But hey, leave it to follicly Billy Barnwell of BSPN. While Billy may not be factually wrong by the following, the chances of it happening are about the same as a tipsy Erin Kate Dolan knocking on Joe’s front door in the dead of night looking for warmth and comfort.
There just is no way in hell Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht would ever trade All-Pro left tackle Tristan Wirfs.
But if he did…
Barnwell looked at what players on each NFL team could bring in a basket of goodies if they were traded. And the return for Wirfs would be an absolute haul.
As in multiple first-round picks.
Two first-round picks and more: OT Tristan Wirfs. The 27-year-old battled knee and oblique injuries last season, but if I had to pick someone to be the best left tackle in the NFL over the next five seasons, he would be my choice. Wirfs allowed a 4.7% pressure rate and a 0.8% quick pressure rate in 2024, both of which led all left tackles. His absence and (mildly) limited performance after returning also directly led to Tampa’s struggles on the ground in 2025. He’s a complete player and one of the most valuable non-quarterbacks in football.
Wirfs is the best player on the Bucs roster. Name another player who is better at his position. There isn’t any.
Knowing how the Bucs put so much emphasis on the offensive line (two first-round picks and two second-round picks), the front line is very important to the team.
So while Wirfs would bring in a haul, it’s like saying the tooth fairy will bring you a brand new and free Mustang from Bill Currie Ford.

Eventually you can’t pay every high pick along the O line. The Patriot way would be to trade him at his max value. Especially if you have a good cheap alternative like Chukuma. Same with Vea, and Winfield. If things go south this season a fire sale for a rebuild could happen.

Never say never. 2026 is a pivotal season in the arc of Bucs history.
I would never trade away the best left tackle in football no matter what, but that’s not my decision to make. And it would depend on the needs of the team.
If your QB isn’t the best player on your team, he doesn’t deserve $50+ million per season. None of them actually deserve or earn that much.
Wirfs isn’t going anywhere. Licht would break the bank to ensure that another franchise legend didn’t snub him before walking out the door.

If the Bucs only win 7 games (which is my prediction) then it is possible that T. Wirfs will be traded as he is our only current tradeable asset on this team and the Bucs will be in rebuild mode…
– New HC
– New DC
– New OC
– New QB
– Possibly a new GM
Do I want T. Wirfs traded? – NO.
I just see it as a possibility if the Bucs go into full on rebuild mode…

If we lose this season then I’d take two 1st rounders for him in a rebuild. Let him be great, and get two franchise players for the next 10+ years if we draft well. I don’t want to trade him but it’s an easy decision if we lose this year, let Baker go, and get a new coach

The only way a Wirfs trade would make sense is if Chukwuma develops so well and so rapidly that you felt like you need to get him on the field….
AND the offer was too much to pass up – Like two 1st rd picks + a starting caliber CB or somesuch…..
Even then – it would not be a popular decision among the players. Baker especially would be pissed….. and for that reason alone – its basically a waste of time to even contemplate such a thing.

Marine Buc. Dead on about the crap shoot part. I’d be aware of the fact that Maye had 4 playoff games last year. 7 fumbles. 4 lost fumbles. 21 sacks. All NFL records. He threw for 60 yards in the first three quarters of the Super Bowl. He capped off the Super Bowl with 2 interceptions and a lost fumble. In those 4 playoff games he threw for less than 59%. I know you’re aware we’ve got a bird in the hand with a 5 game playoff record as the highest passer rating of all time.
But. It is a crapshoot, and you’re not whistling Dixie about that one, Marine Buc.

Must be the offseason . This Joe has us losing Baker, Vita, and now Wirfs. If not creating the content you certainly are reckless in writing about it. Where you lose cred is not wanting to sign Baker cause of half of half a season last year. If one can’t tell Baker is a stud at starting qb is just blind. You wanting him to prove himself yet again when everyone knows all the issues from last year is just nuts. The dude can ball and needs his team to show that. And as Gruden said who you are you going to get if he’s not our guy. Should not even be a debate. Same guy that bashed Dean for 4 years and after they get rid of him, complains about how are we going to replace him. I’m all about not being too much of a homer but trying to be smarter than everyone makes no sense . It’s ok to be homer. And not picking them to win games during the season is just silly. You look really bad when they do win.

Yup, sure is. July is the dead period in the NFL calendar and there is no sense in denying it (kind of like saying it doesn’t get cold in the winter). Joe typed this in the original story to qualify it (Joe knew someone would whine about this story) because the Wirfs’ trade idea is preposterous, but it got deleted. 🙁

It’s just a thought exercise in depth of summer off season; with takeaway being TW is (arguably?) the best tackle in the league and likely on HOF career path.

JL is not smart enough to get value in return for aging players. He prefers to overpay for their waning years or just let their value fade away into FA. He learned nothing from Belichek. Upcoming year will show his true colors. Multiple expiring contracts for quality players and not enough cap room left after his many blunders. Several fan favorites will have to be let go. We’ll soon see whether he is the genius he thinks he is.

The specific comment of seeing it as a possibility a new regime would trade the best player on the team at the 2nd most premium position in the league, to then use this draft capital to get a Golden Child that would need the protection of a premium left tackle.

2x1st and 2x2nds … 4 starters … NO BRAINER!
At current pace, the team isn’t going to be in contention until Wirfs is passed his prime. Trading him for that haul would dramatically expidite the process.
Go 5-12 and you could have a completely reloaded team, tons of cap, and new HC. We could be a powerhouse.

Ok, since yall going there, we have a left tackle already (other than my man Wirfs)….he plays Center…and Bredeson can play Center….TWO LEFT TACKLES ARE ON THE TEAM! And we just drafted a pretty decent Guard. Now do we want to go there? Heck no! But thats the beauty of backup capability….another reason I pushed for us to get Barton.

Damn. Why not!? Makes sense when you think about it… Sauce Gardner brought the JETS 2-Firsts, just last season from the Colts. If everything goes all to HELL, and the Bucs start ‘selling’ BIG (and they frickin BETTER BE) at the trade-deadline… And, if they could REALLY GET ‘2’ First-Round PICKS+ (TWO) with one of those having a high-potential of landing more in the upper-mid range of 2027, and a very good shot at being a TOP-10 PICK in 2028… Then, You’ve Just GOT TO DO IT. Especially, since having an ALL-PRO Level OT is really just a waste and doesn’t move the needle for you anyway… For a team with a totally depleted roster, in the very beginning of a complete ‘rebuild’ AND his age would not ‘fit’ the current trajectory of your future timeline.There is absolutely NO POINT of having a player of HIS caliber and AGE, on a team that would be THAT BAD. Plus, you just CLEARED ALL that future Cap Space in the process. It would be a TOTAL NO-BRAINER. You could really LOAD TF UP and get back to BUSINESS. You’d be back in NO-TIME, with the ‘right’ HC and GM. And, you DON’T DRAFT a QB (unless he is ‘can’t miss’ generational talent), UNTIL your ROSTER is STACKED after 2-Drafts, and 2-Free Agency Periods (at least one, at a minimum)… You’ll have enough draft capital and talent accumulated by then, in order to make your move and POUNCE on the Quarterback your HC WANTS and feels is the BEST FIT. You don’t REACH on one, JUST to be drafting one… You sign a “bridge” until you’re READY, and have the right ‘opportunity’ and TIMING. It’s pointless, to WASTE even 1-YEAR of his ‘rookie-level’ contract… Especially, with a BAD TEAM and ‘multi-year’ PLAN. Forget this sitting behind someone else and “learning” BS… The clock is ticking, on when you’re going to have to be forced to MAKE A DECISION, whether you extend him, or NOT.

Not on a BAD TEAM, that is at the very beginning of a complete roster tear down, and a total REBUILD. It would be a total WASTE keeping him. Pointless. And, why would YOU even want to do HIM that way… Cause, I can assure you that HE sure as hell wouldn’t want to be stuck HERE, and having to go through all of THAT, during his ‘twilight’ years in the league.

He has said before, that he only wants to play 10-years in the league… Though, I believe that will all change (as long as he’s feeling well), once HE SEES that next BIG fat bag that ‘someone’ will be throwing at HIM. He’s gonna get at least one more BIG bite of the apple. It’d be a helluva LOT better trading him while he still has THAT type of value, versus hanging onto him and having him eat up THAT kind of cap space… And, while you’re trying to replenish, restock, rebuild, and RELOAD. It just hinders and limits what you can do. And, again… HE’s NOT going to want to go through all of THAT, anyway! So, come on… Don’t be so simple and single-minded, by having that same knee jerk reaction, that we HAVE TO hang onto all of these players for DEAR LIFE. Be SMART and CALCULATING. And, AGGRESSIVE. Absolutely not. The whole goal on offense is to have an awesome offensive line and a quarterback. If healthy this year, they have that. They can be a top five offensive team in the NFL.
You don’t trade an edge rusher and you don’t trade an all pro tackle. That’s how GM’s lose jobs.

I’m not in any way calling for this, but IF it happened (it’s not going to) it wouldn’t be the disaster that many think it would be. Barton held his own at LT last year before Wirfs was available. Many think Bredeson is a better center than guard. So you immediately have a LT and C. Now you find a LG either in the draft, in FA, or on the back end of your roster. Plus you have some very high end draft picks to use. Again, not advocating this, just saying.

Some analyst just ranked Wirfs like number 4 for a player to build a team around. Why on earth would they trade him. You know when it’s offseason and rediculous articles are released.
