Highlights Of Episode 4 Of “Quarterback” With Baker Mayfield

The following is a brief summary of some scenes in the Netflix series “Quarterback,” a “Hard Knocks”-like look at NFL quarterbacks. Cameras tail them on and off the field. Joe Flacco, Cam Ward, Jayden Daniels and Baker Mayfield are featured this summer.
* After clips are broadcast of Pat McAfee, Colin Cowherd, Kyle Brandt and others talking up Mayfield as having his best season and leading the MVP chase, Mayfield said he learned at Oklahoma that individual awards are in reality team awards. I the team does well, the individual accolades come. So he noted the MVP chatter was the result of his teammates playing well.
* Before the 49ers game in a WAGs bus, wife Emily Mayfield noted pregame is different when she’s carrying a baby. Because the non-alcoholic beers don’t “take the edge off” like the real thing. “These don’t get the job done,” she later said from her suite. Emily Mayfield still shotgunned her NA beer with the Bucs WAGs. Not drinking does give her the opportunity to “play bartender.” Shots are mandatory for all the ladies when the Bucs score unless they are pregnant or don’t drink alcohol, she declared.
* In the huddle early in the game, Baker Mayfield says, “Let’s score 50. Impose your will.” Aw man, Mayfield missed a perfect opportunity to channel Sooners legend Barry Switzer when he used to holler before Oklahoma games, “Let’s go hang half-a-hundred on their asses!”
* After throwing a touchdown pass to Kam Johnson against San Francisco, Mayfield hollered, “F@CK YEAH, MAN! I’M A F@CKING DAWG!” Mayfield was drilled late on the play and a roughing-the-passer flag was thrown. From her suite, Emily Mayfield laughs and says, “You can’t do that!”
* When Kindle Vildor picked off 49ers quarterback Mac Jones near the far sideline and appeared to have a chance to house it, but kept falling down, Baker Mayfield hollered from the Bucs sidelines, “Get up you motherf@cker!”
* When Mayfield throws his touchdown bomb down the middle to Tez Johnson, Tony Romo on the CBS broadcast says, “If I was the crowd, I’d be chanting ‘MVP’ right now.” Unknowingly to Bucs fans in the stadium, they heeded Romo’s words and obliged.
* After the game, Teddy Bridgewater told Mayfield that he’s an “assassin.”
* In the Lions game, Mayfield said the Lions crossed up the Bucs and played mostly man-to-man. Mayfield said the offense felt like it was a step behind all night. “It’s never a good feeling.” He added he reaggravated his bone bruise that he suffered in Houston.
* Mike Evans’ devastating injury was not referenced. Not once. Not one clip. It was like it never happened.

Yup, the show is called Quarterback. They already have a spin-off show called receiver. Mike’s a likely option to be on it.
QB is a really good show. Highly recommended. And it made me an even bigger Mayfield fan so far. He has an adorable daughter and very nice family.

the ME drama is gone. Hammy or otherwise it was always something that lead to his tapping his helmet to come out more than any player I have ever seen. WE should be fine with all the weapons on O and the O-Line staying healthy. It’s that Putrid Pass Defense that worries us all.

I started watching Quarterbacks last night. Great show. Can’t help but to like Baker even more. And I am getting to be a Flacco fan too.
Highly recommend.

Lose Evans in 2026.
Lose Vea and Baker in 2027.
If that’s what Licht does, he will be a Dead Man Walking.
Everyone knows what Baker’s value is. It’s the worst kept secret.
So if Licht blows this, he’s going to look cheap and many decent FAs will bypass Tampa.

Zero mention of the Dolphins game in the show. That’s quite telling.
In my opinion, that game alone should have cost Bowles his job.
And I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s a big reason Baker hasn’t gotten the offer he’s expecting.
Like it or not, Baker was a big reason for a three game and four game losing streak after the bye week.
Nothing about that is elite.

I haven’t seen this series, but assuming it goes in order of the season, boy is it all downhill from here. This was the last good game of the year for Baker, and his 2nd best game of the year – and the fall off is dramatic. Assuming it’s presented in order, it will be interesting to see all the excusing making.
