Will Keionte Scott Return Punts?
April 25th, 2026
Bucs receiver Kameron Johnson had a solid season as a punt returner in 2025, but will he make the 2026 roster?
The Bucs might have just bought some punt-returner insurance in Round 4 of the NFL Draft when they selected University of Miami cornerback Keionte Scott today.
Scott was a stud punt returner at Auburn in 2023. In fact, he led the SEC with a 14.8-yard average (15 returns for 22 yards and a touchdown). He did not return punts last season at Miami.
Sure, Scott is in line to be Tampa Bay’s starting nickel, but he might end up being a backup, which would make the Bucs more inclined to let him return punts.
Did Joe mention Scott ran a 4.33 40 yard dash at his pro day?

He actually loves football.
He wants to win. He hates losing.
He swarms. He’s insane. He plays with fire.
He instantly improves our special teams.
Like Bain and Trotter, he will transform our culture.

He reminds me somewhat of Ronde Barber.

4.33? Dude can fly. Love this pick.
Great draft so far. Let’s get some OG support now. Or a bruising RB.

Hopefully he can be the personal punter protector and hold for FGs and PATs too.
It’s funny. Bowles doesn’t really care about edge rush, but at least he’s into players who can’t cover a cough in pass coverage.

Love this pick. I was looking at Wedjen as a returner but he’s a one-trick pony. Scott is a baller like Teacherman says. Like Joe says, I think Kam Johnson may not be around long with the additions of Scott as a returner and Hurst as a receiver.

We need more physicality in our secondary
We need to be more as a team
And we are getting there, it won’t be long

Were not in the first round any more.
T
You see the weakness but calculate that your guy can make it a strength.
Brady did it and many more.
The people that have to fix these guys made their choices. If white had not mentally lost it we never would have felt so wounded about Britt.
And so on
Let the guy play. He’s not stupid and likely there’s a good plan for his success.

Cobraboy,
Scott is way faster than Barber was.
Scott is more like Jacob Parrish.

I like this pick. It means Parrish moves outside, which means McColumn likely has to compete for a job. I think he is done, but we will see. I hope they make Morrison compete too. I don’t think he is starting material either. Maybe he develops maybe not , guess we will see. Definitely would like to see another corner from somewhere. The only one that bothers me is Trotter if he can’t cover. Let’s hope the critics are wrong!!. If not we will continue to see the middle of the field wide open. Unfortunately that has been a Bucs trademark now for a few years .
