Bucs May Have Selected A Josiah Trotter-Like Corner In Keionte Scott
April 25th, 2026Very interesting intel on new Bucs corner Keionte Scott.
Scott screams “nickel corner” because that’s what he often played at Auburn and at Miami. And reading Scott’s breakdown from Dane Brugler of The Athletic in his draft tome “The Beast,” Scott seems like a Josiah Trotter version of a defensive back.
Scott plays like a linebacker in a cornerback’s body.
His ability to set the edge, avoid blocks and make stops at the line of scrimmage is coaching tape for young nickels. He screams downhill as a blitzer and chases down runners in pursuit, although he comes in hot, which can lead to breakdowns in the open field. He sniffs out passing lanes downhill but doesn’t show the same anticipation when working in reverse.
While football folks on social media think the Bucs drafting linebacker Trotter was a savvy move by Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht, some Bucs fans have been howling all night that Trotter is K.J. Britt, Jr. who cannot cover.
Scott seems to be a stop-the-run, blitzing nickel and not so much skilled in pass coverage. That could prove troublesome if a defensive back cannot defend the pass. Interesting strategy in a passing league, Joe has to confess.

This just gets worse and worse.
April 25th, 2026 at 1:13 pm
Bucs need that U Swagger. Too milquetoast these past several years.
April 25th, 2026 at 1:13 pm
So are you saying that Scott is playing backstop for the guys who get past Trotter ?
😇
April 25th, 2026 at 1:14 pm
We got some straight DAWGS in this draft. I’m super excited about this years draft class already and can’t wait to see how they look this year
April 25th, 2026 at 1:16 pm
He plays with fire.
He swarms. He hits. He’s violent.
He ran a 4.33 at his pro day.
He was on a championship team.
He’s a competitor. He’s a psycho.
And he will be great on special teams as well.
He’s an instant starter at gunner for us
April 25th, 2026 at 1:17 pm
If coverage problems continue in the middle of the field… This could be another sad season! Hopefully the critics are mistaken. Time will tell.
April 25th, 2026 at 1:17 pm
Interesting strategy in a passing league, Joe has to confess.
^^^^^
Now we know Bowles’ 3-4 isn’t going to change much if at all.
So how is he going to use Bain ? Or is he going to ruin him ?
April 25th, 2026 at 1:18 pm
PFF had him ranked as the highest rated CB at one point last season and I think he ended up as their 3rd highest rated CB for the year. You don’t get that ranking if you cannot cover.
April 25th, 2026 at 1:18 pm
It’s as if Jason is really trying to get fired along with Todd.
April 25th, 2026 at 1:19 pm
He sounds like last year’s pick Parrish, to me. A blurb from Draft Buzz (lol), which claims he runs a 4.33:
“64 tackles, 13 tackles for loss, five sacks, and two pick-sixes while earning Thorpe Award semifinalist recognition. He returned from a November foot injury to record 10 tackles, two sacks, and a forced fumble against Texas A&M in the CFP first round, then added a 72-yard interception return for a touchdown against Ohio State in the Cotton Bowl.“
That is incredible production. It is possible he is fine in coverage but they used him in slot because he is Lawrence Taylor.
April 25th, 2026 at 1:20 pm
Oh wait. Now I get it. They’re going to put more pressure on the QB.
April 25th, 2026 at 1:21 pm
Grover, you mean your comments? I agree. Worse and worse. Dude, to be a good troll you actually have to have some skills. Like Napoleon Dynamite. But you don’t have any my man. Read some of Munch’s stuff. Now. That’s a talented troll. Actually, he’s actually a good fan with some trolling comments. If you want to be a troll, study successful ones. Because you add absolutely no value to any thread. You’re welcome.
April 25th, 2026 at 1:21 pm
Crap Joe!! With the headline you used…”Bucs May Have Selected A Josiah Trotter-Like Corner In Keionte Scott”, I thought you were going to say, “Scott can’t cover anyone.” Whew!
April 25th, 2026 at 1:21 pm
We want physical defensive players that attack instead of loafing
Keionte Scott and Josiah Trotter attacks
That’s why they have a very high number of TFL
They are physical players, they love to hit
That’s exactly what we’ve been missing
April 25th, 2026 at 1:21 pm
Everything changes in Bowles’ defense with pressure. If the arrival of Bain, with a healthy Kancey and Diaby ball out, the middle of the field will be fine. QB pressure works on every QB except the elite ones. But most QBs in the league are not elite. Let’s see. I don’t like the Trotter pick, but what choice do we have now? Let’s see what happens with the D. If it’s another year of a putrid Bowles’ defense, at least he’ll be gone. No more excuses.
April 25th, 2026 at 1:23 pm
Like the pick. We need one more CB and one more LB.
April 25th, 2026 at 1:23 pm
Completely open up competition for CB1, CB2, and slot cb. Let last years starters earn their spot back or step aside for the hungrier younger guys.
April 25th, 2026 at 1:25 pm
I don’t know why people are concerned about coverage so much
The biggest concern should be a fielding a soft defense
A defense that allows the QB to sit in the pocket and pick you apart
April 25th, 2026 at 1:25 pm
Great pick. Kid is a natural nickel with 4.3 speed. Parrish will start outside now.
April 25th, 2026 at 1:27 pm
His back pedal is a weakness, but I like him as a third down linebacker type to replace Trotter on passing downs. He’ll be great playing close to the line where he can blitz or attack RB’s in the flat – a huge weakness of SVD last year.
April 25th, 2026 at 1:29 pm
well fwiw he will be 25 in August
April 25th, 2026 at 1:29 pm
The Houston Texans has a great defense
Not because they have great CB and ILB in coverage
They are great because they have dominant pass rushers
People don’t even know who their Linebackers are
April 25th, 2026 at 1:31 pm
B4 they get a chance to show @joe downing them as he always does because it’s not who he wanted. I hope they ball out crazy and make you eat every letter in the words u speak.
April 25th, 2026 at 1:31 pm
The only time you should worry about coverage
Is when you can’t get to the QB
That will not be the case with us in 2026
This draft is going well for us
Props to Jason Licht
April 25th, 2026 at 1:34 pm
Grover is a 🤡
About as dumb as they come
April 25th, 2026 at 1:35 pm
@HCGrover, just who would you have picked? You haven’t watched much football with all your assinine takes.
April 25th, 2026 at 1:35 pm
Fun fact — Keionte Scott out of Mt. Helix HS… same pipeline that produced 1982 CIF champ Chuck Cecil.
April 25th, 2026 at 1:35 pm
You’re not second in the NFL in pass defense if you can’t cover well.
Face meet palm.
April 25th, 2026 at 1:37 pm
Jason’s doing a great job. Defense will be physical and be able to get back to stopping the run. If Bain , kancey , yaya , Muhammad vea and Robinson and get after the QB and make them run for their life our secondary will improve a lot. Physical punch you in the mouth tackling is what this defense needs and that’s bin the theme this offseason.
April 25th, 2026 at 1:37 pm
We want an attacking defense
We’re getting away from that passive, sitting in zone defense
We will be attacking the ball, it’s that simple
We won’t be sitting in coverage, waiting on the ball to come to us
We’re going to be in attack mode for 60 minutes
April 25th, 2026 at 1:37 pm
watch his highlights. He excels against the cream of the crop in college football. Looks like a baller to me. He plays hard, lots of splash.
April 25th, 2026 at 1:38 pm
Lakeland
Our guy WR/KR Kaden Wetjen went to Pittsburgh.😔
April 25th, 2026 at 1:41 pm
If you want a great pass defense
Then pressure the QB every down
Don’t allow him to go through his reads
Pressure bust pipes, pressure leads to QB mistakes
April 25th, 2026 at 1:42 pm
LUVMYBUCS
I was just watching it
April 25th, 2026 at 1:43 pm
Keionte Scott will be fine, I think the Bucs had a solid, if not very good draft
Now, I have to find something better to do!!!!
April 25th, 2026 at 1:44 pm
Jermod Mccoy and JRod were close enough for the cost to be minimal, we got too cute
somewhat disappointed with these 2
April 25th, 2026 at 1:44 pm
Daddy like
April 25th, 2026 at 1:46 pm
Wow this is a very confusing Hoe was Calling for Jason to Draft Scott earlier in an article an now it’s a problem very strange an.confusing Bucs are having a great draft so.far Really I couldn’t be happier people will always find something to complain about with the Guys we draft I trust Jason An his Staff they have been killing the drafts the last cpl.years an everyone should should Trust them
April 25th, 2026 at 1:59 pm
J Rod was great at forcing turnovers at the college level but missed a lot of tackles
I am pretty sure we have centered this draft around mean MotherF@#$ers who can tackle .
April 25th, 2026 at 2:03 pm
Excellent draft so far JL! If the reoccurring two complaints are: 1) short arms and 2) can’t cover – then you knocked it out of the park.
April 25th, 2026 at 2:04 pm
Keonte Scott runs a 4.3 40.
He’s a Jacob Parrish type of prospect.
I like the pick.
Hurst and Scott are my 2 favorite draft picks so far, and I’m joping that Bain & Trotter turn out to be great too.
April 25th, 2026 at 2:05 pm
Quit trying to manipulate the guest Joe you are confusing them.
April 25th, 2026 at 2:07 pm
there appears to be two flavors of JBF commenters : the Pollyannish type that slavishly forgives every boneheaded Bucs move, and the relentlessly negative type that sees the worst in everything – I try to give credit when and where it is due – the 2026 draft picks are prima facie good picks but we won’t really know how it shakes out until AFTER training camp when we understand better how durable these drafts are and how they will be used – I am giving Licht/Bowles the benefit of the doubt – the Bucs aren’t the Browns or Jets but neither are they the Patriots, Rams, 49ers, etc – they are historically a mediocre team with flashes of brilliance every 15-20 years or so – maybe this year should be the litmus test as to whether the current regime can field a consistent winner
April 25th, 2026 at 2:37 pm
Get-Rid——
Couldn’t agree more. You’d be hard pressed into thinking some of the Pollyanna types are not sitting beside Jason Licht as they compose their takes. They present it to him for an expeditious edit and then, whoosh, off it goes to JBF.
Conversely, some are unhappy with everything, all the time.
And as usual, the fair take lies somewhere in the middle.
April 25th, 2026 at 2:46 pm
Round 1 A+
Round 2 C+
Round 3 B-
Round 4 B+
Overall B÷ still think Trotter at 2 is a big reach hopefully im wrong. Defense
Got better with some depth and natural pass rushers. Hurst is a bit raw and
Could take a couple years
April 25th, 2026 at 2:47 pm
@GROL
Great point!
I’ll take that point as well!
April 25th, 2026 at 2:50 pm
It’s not an either or, good defenses pressure and cover, unfortunately guys that do both well are gone by the end of day 1 , get what you can, teach, develop and improve
April 25th, 2026 at 2:57 pm
I forgot how nuts his pick-6 against Ohio State was.
April 25th, 2026 at 3:03 pm
Bucs could use some extra violence on D…
April 25th, 2026 at 3:27 pm
I like this guys tape, physical, fast, plays in the box, centerfielder, some ball hawk skills. I think Jeremiah Smith had him rated the #8th best corner in this draft, so great value @ RD5!
