Bucs Re-Sign Guard Dan Feeney

March 13th, 2026

Dangerous Dan Feeney will get his first full season with Tampa Bay, provided he makes the initial 53-man roster.

Per Peter Schrager of ESPN, Buccaneers Ring of Honor general manager Jason Licht re-signed guard Feeney today to a one-year deal.

At the NFL Scouting Combine, Licht told Joe and other local media that he liked what he saw from Feeney. And two weeks later, he has a new contract.

The Bucs signed Feeney off the Bills’ practice squad in mid-September. The nine-year veteran played in 12 games and was the starting right guard for the Bucs’ final 10 games in place of injured Cody Mauch.

Joe started calling Feeney “Dangerous Dan” because, well, he was downright dangerous at times to Baker Mayfield. Still, Feeney was rather steady, albeit not at a high level.

There’s a shortage of capable guards across the NFL. So at least the Bucs are getting someone familiar, a guy that will have chemistry with teammates if he gets in a game. It also could help Feeney to spend a full offseason and training camp with his team. Joe still expects the Bucs to look for more guard-center help.

Joe’s favorite Feeney highlight is below.

Back up to the back ups

    Still need to draft Ioane….

  2. Stpetenatt Says:

In all seriousness, I would be an equally effective starter at guard as Dan Feeney.

  3. Stpetenatt Says:

Our guards are great. Why would we waste a first round pick on a guard that won’t even start??? Makes no logical sense. How about replacing SVD or LVD? One or the other still needs a drafted replacement. If not, pick any other front 7 position and draft another player for a rotation.

  4. Stpetenatt Says:

Or take Sadiq for a truly sick offense. Or even Love if he drops. The choices are endless…

  5. MadMax Says:

You must not watch the G spots when watching the games…thats ok, G spots are hard to get to sometimes, especially with those tight ends running around lol

  6. MadMax Says:

btw, of course he would start, duh! I was talking about Feeney as bu to the bu….

  7. Simeon4HOF Says:

A healthy Godwin will offset losing Evans. We have 3 playmaker receivers that wont 4 certain pull a hammy next year. And Tez. Will get a big body to use in redzone at some point. Getting Kieft and our Guards Back along with a healthy Bucky will ignite our offense

  8. Simeon4HOF Says:

Atleast Braswell didnt just catch 3 felonies in ATL lol.
Character does matter, good job JL. But ya better go get another one Round 1.

  9. Simeon4HOF Says:

Draft on Olineman, maybe a big WR or TE late.
But offense is set. Godwin back as the heartbeat.
And guarantee Baker has plenty more chips on his shoulder.
Id extend him now, shut Me 13 tf up some.
Do not like how he dissed fans. We always showed him love and tolerated his weaknesses and key dropped passes. We didnt cry when his lack of speed canceled him in double coverage. We didn’t whine when better CBs would shut him down 4 a Sunday.
We didnt focus on the fact that he wasn’t a deep threat. We cheered when he made every play, but never thru him under the bus when faster receivers had annually better seasons.
We loved Mike. Now he has no QB lol

  10. Beeej Says:

I’ve always wanted to TRY pro football….

  11. Simeon4HOF Says:

    Who lol

  12. Tony Says:

Maybe resign Desmond Watson & put him at G instead?😀

  13. Hail2dabucs Says:

Are you effin kidding me joe ‘s ? Joe , tell me you saw last season what i saw . This guy getting blown up and pushed around a lot ! Did my eyes deceive me ?

  14. Simeon4HOF Says:

Now go build the rest of this defense, but do not miss

    Edge Rd 1
    ILB Rd 2
    CB Rd 3

  15. Vanessa Anne Says:

I’m up in the air about this.

No doubt, we need some depth on the O-line.

But, Dan was part of the challenges we had with it last year.

I will agree with Joe… a training camp and having more familiarity with the team may help.

  16. Scott Says:

We had some of he worst guard play in the league last year. We need to keep drafting O line.

  17. Simeon4HOF Says:

This signing sucks but must have to do with the fact we have no business drafting a backup G until we have a backup tackle and finish fixing our Defense

  18. Outrigger Says:

I hope they didn’t pay much for this bum. He and the rest of our backup guards are trash and it really hurt us last year. Klein was another bust of a draft choice by Licht. We will need to draft another guard/center in the later rounds of this year’s draft. I like the center from Indiana.

  19. Day 1-76 Says:

We’re only in trouble if he makes the final 53.

  20. Eric Says:

I’m tired of this because we like him spit (if you know you know)! He was horrible last year, period!

  21. Ufc Says:

Just sign a trash can while we r at it

  22. BucsFan81 Says:

Off topic but if anyone wants to see the Doug Martin police camera footage it’s in TMZ. Dude definitely was on drugs and crashed out.

  23. HeartyDickerson Says:

Sometimes the devil you don’t know is better than the devil you know.

Why throw money at a trash player you watched get throttled for 17 games? Try literally anyone else. Get out of your comfort zone Licht

  24. Captahab Says:

At Stpetenatt, the wheels came of our offense when Our starting guards went down. Gotta have depth at the position or the season is toast if you just rely on the starting Five. Chances are it’s difficult to get through a season without injury. We have needs all over the roster, guard is one of them.

  25. 3.28.Evans Says:

Can’t have too many matadors in your offensive line room. Glad we’ve got one back who really knows how to wave the cape.

  26. ToesOnTheLine!!! Says:

While I don’t see what JL sees in the guy, I gotta give Licht props for having a good eye for OL players. If he sees something in Freeney’s potential that a lot of us (myself included) don’t then I’ll defer to Jason’s instincts at the position. Now when it comes to OLB I worry a little about JL’s judgement, but he’s bound to hit on a draft pick eventually.

  27. Simeon4HOF Says:

Need to draft a Tackle that can play guard

  28. Rod Munch Says:

Humm… that’s questionable. He was awful last year. I guess it’s a vet min deal with no guaranteed money, so I guess perhaps it a little bit of an insurance policy, but man, I hope he doesn’t make the team.

  29. Kgh4life Says:

Isn’t Alex Cappa a free agent? I thought they would bring him in. Dan Feeney and Michael Jordan was a swinging door at both guard positions.

Need to draft a Tackle that can play guard

    ———-

Yeah, Licht loves taking college tackles and moving them inside – and it generally works out well. I’d be surprised if they don’t spend a pick at some point in the draft on an offensive lineman who they’ll crosstrain.

  31. Mobucs Says:

Nine-year vets have shown all their potential; expecting sudden improvement is not the bet to make.

  32. Will Says:

Why? Please draft a person to replace him. Thank you.

  33. Will Says:

They can draft Dunker he has a mullet too.

  34. Lakeland Says:

Licht signed him to compete in camp for a backup OG position

There’s nothing wrong with that, it’s a good signing
More bodies will be brought in before camp start
He can compete with the draftees, UDFAs, and others

  35. Proudbucfan Says:

I truly hope he never gets on the field again for Tampa unless it’s on special teams

  36. Stpetematt Says:

Yeah it’s ok to draftable an o-lineman or guard but not to start them- as a backup. Therefore, 4th round or later. Preferably 5th+! Use the first 4 picks on clear starters or players you want to platoon with or replace not good starters with.

People that will see the field year 1. For sure.

  37. Captahab Says:

Desperately need another quality guard. One injury at guard and the wheels come off.

  38. FortMyersDave Says:

Hey Joe, let us know how Mauch is doing! His return is crucial if the Bucs do not want to have that trainwreck situation on OL again. Ditto for Brederson. If wither of those guys are toast, jason may have to look at getting help from the draft as we know he will never trade a draft pick for a usefull player.

  39. Brooks Says:

    Unreal

  40. Stpetematt Says:

Both Mauch and Bredeson have stated they will be 100% ready and healthy for OTA’s and training camp. There hasn’t been any setbacks in Mauch’s recovery for his ACL and Bredeson is already 100% from his knee injury. Shouldn’t be any worries on the health front on the O-line heading into this year. If we could draft a backup in say the third round that could play either guard or tackle that would be worth it as a great backup for anywhere on the line.

  41. buc4evr Says:

It is ok, the guy is a backup that was dumped into the fire last season. He will be third on the depth chart and is a cheap insurance policy. Probably signed at vet minimum or close?

  42. Been there since the beginning Says:

Are the Bucs becoming the official club med sponsor or something 🤔👀 can I use my Medicare card for some physical therapy for my back?? We’ve been dr death since Brady came down here. Come and spend your final year or so here at club TB med 1 .

  43. Hopein1hand… Says:

If you remember, Goedeke looked like a waste of a draft pick in his first year at OG. That said, I don’t expect a similar growth curve from veteran Feeney. I think the Bucs are back to being a team fewer players want to play for after last season’s collapse.

The Bucs need a starting guard and the draft has them. Davin Joseph hurt his knee- done. Ryan Jensen’s knee went- done. Alex Cappa’a Lee goes- done. Cody Mauch’s knee- we shall see but the Bucs ought to draft an interior lineman on day 2 unless they can sign Wyatt Teller, who has also been injured and may be all but done. It’s a shame but yeah, the Bucs need a real starting guard. Final cutdowns to 53 will offer better depth than Feeney hopefully.

  44. Crazyhorse54 Says:

    Why?

  45. JimBobBuc Says:

Are the other guards out there so bad that Feeney is at the top of the list?

Maybe OL coaches Kevin Carberry and Andrew Mitchell think they can improve Feeney?

  46. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

Practice squad filler. So far, he and Bazelak are the only deals I dislike lol

  47. Simeon4HOF Says:

There had to be another guard out there tho.
Found an Edge outta nowhere that’ll shut up some fans unless ya dont go for the same Rd 1,
But cant upgrade backup guard if u want to in free agency. Dont get complacent now.
Need to draft 2 Edge rushers if that’s the case.
Know what just draft another Edge in Rd 4, maybe that’s it.
Then a versatile swing tackle in 5 and a Big WR in 6
Must be drafting all defense bcuz …
Why in tf did we resign this

  48. Hugh Glazerhouse Says:

Didn’t the Jets give us something else as great as Feeney? 🤔

  49. Lakeland Says:

I think Feeney, Klien, Haggard will be brought to camp
But, they will probably be tried at different positions
All of Feeney snaps was at LG, and he struggled

But that don’t mean he will struggle at RG, OC

  50. Simeon4HOF Says:

    Bucs Remaining Holes

Edge 1 (Must be Round 1)
ILB 3 (Heir to David 2027)
CB (Primary backup outside to push Zyon and Ben)
    Backup T/G
    Backup DL.

Would then be deep on defense. Imagine that
And could play with luxury upgrades like an upgrade at TE and new WR 6

If the Bucs go after the best Edge they can in the draft,
And nail ILB in Rd 2. And steal a really good CB in Rd 3
And depth the rest the right way this team can win the NFC

  51. Oxycondomns Says:

just seems like the bucs dont have enough draft picks for all their needs unless they are comfortable with kancey and all the over age 30 players on defense not getting hurt. lost 2 defensive backs need to add depth there also.

  52. Lakeland Says:

“”I meant all of Feeney snaps was at RG

  53. Sam Says:

    Boring season incoming.

  54. Lakeland Says:

Goedeke struggled at OG, and Bucs fans wanted him gone
But when they moved him back to his natural position at RT
He excelled, and is a top RT in the league

  55. James Patrick Reilly Says:

Hopefully we will have capable depth next year.

  56. Lakeland Says:

Dan Feeney was a LG and Center during his 4 years with the Chargers

But he played all of his snaps at RG for the Bucs
And he didn’t have time to get familiar with the Bucs O-Line

But, Feeney will have a full off-season with Carberry, and the O-Line
And he will become a valuable piece to this O-Line
Feeney is good depth signing, he’s experienced at LG,RG, Center

  57. Bucscoott Says:

Are we seriously asking colts about trading for Anthony Richardson? Makes no sense, just signed back Qb

  58. MadMax Says:

Im telling you, we can trade down some and still land the best G in the draft, Ioane. We need to address G but also need more picks to hit the other holes. Unless Styles or Reese fall to us, I think this should be the move.

Ioane…Plug him in to left or right G, and Bredeson or Mauch are backups while healing and getting it together….and who knows, they may never be the same.

I mean if you want to see the QB constantly tortured, then ignore this…..

  59. Toddler Bowles Says:

The Glazers obviously saw Baltimore sign Trey Hendrickson and told Jayson Lite to “make a splash” in free agency to get Bucs fans fired up.

“Dangerous Dan” Feeney who can crush beer cans on his head is the result! Can’t wait for his picture to be plastered over Mike Evans at RayJay Stadium.

Now sign an All-Pro Long Snapper and bring back star draftees LB Devon White, DE Joe Tryon-Shoyinka, and QB Kyle Trask to plug the holes at DE, ILB and backup QB and then the rebuild is complete!

    /s

  60. Simeon4HOF Says:

If we draft right only weakness will be the lack of experience at starting CB,
And we won our Second Super Bowl with that same only weakness.

Must go Edge Rd 1, nail ILB, and steal a perfect CB3 in Rd 3.
Any other formula leaves us unfinished on D

  61. Simeon4HOF Says:

This guy must be real tight with our starting 5 and Baker. I mean

  62. Simeon4HOF Says:

If Im Jason L i am not f@@@@@@ around a not content at Edge. Rd 1 or bust

  63. Kenton Smith Says:

Bucscoott. One of my fears is that we get Mayfield hurt with a broken collarbone or torn up leg and he’s out for the season. Sure we could use another QB to compete for the backup. In camp, you need plenty of arms so nobody throws theirs out. But I would like to see one more option and especially this year. Because we’ve got a young new QB coach who is already getting alot of hype. For a talent of developing QBs. Grab a QB with potential. I don’t know if we could afford Anthony Richardson. Browning has experience winning so I think this coach could help him some. So instead of gambling on someone like Richardson we might take a flyer in the late rounds. Bazelak is gonna be getting some good coaching too. We really need to have a fully prepared and solid backup QB.

  64. Bucfan1988 Says:

    You gotta be kidding me!!!
Licht, what the hell are we doing resigning this guy???

    🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

He seemed to get schooled every other play last year…
Don’t even tell me we couldn’t get a backup RG better than this…

  65. Simeon4HOF Says:

PFF draft better than the new fanspeak simulator. More realistic

  66. 3.28.Evans Says:

Need more attention paid to the Mike Evans departure. This travesty is right up there with sadness of Doug Williams departure (for entirely different reasons).

    Or Sapp. Or Lynch.

This has been a goat rodeo since Cooper Kuppgate.

  67. garro Says:

OK….Jason sees something I sure as heck do not see. Shortage of guards? We have to get better depth at guard. Baker needs to be able to trust our O line! I could tell he did not last year. There were times that he took off when he actually had time.

    Go Bucs!

  68. David Says:

Absolutely horrendous guard. They better draft another one and cut this guy.

  69. 3.28.Evans Says:

Some of these pie in the sky blind ignorant fans stimulate demand for barf bags and bottles of bourbon.

  70. adam from ny Says:

the only reason to bring this guy back would be because he looks like the son of mark gastineau…

now go find guys who look like joe klecko, marty lyons & abdul salaam…

    #SonsOfTheNewYorkSackExchange

  71. #99 the big fella Says:

I have to think if Kevin Carberry didn’t think he could be a reliable backup ,they would have went in a different direction.

  72. jcscycles Says:

As others have pointed out, Feeney was a LEFT Guard for the Chargers. He was forced into Right Guard when we we were stuck in the injury rut in the second half of the season. You could see he was uncomfortable, and that’s why he took a beating every game.

Not many lineman can easily swap from side to side That’s why Tristan Wirfs is special.

Luke Haggard did well at Right Guard last year before he was injured, so that’s probably the plan here. Feeney played well with the Chargers, so he should work out at his natural position.

Drafting a Guard in the early rounds would not be a bad idea, though. Maybe bring back Kappa as a sub. It’s still early in Free agency.

  73. Bosch Says:

No one is talking about Chukwuma. I thought he was a raw talent that showed a lot of promise. Seems like he should be in the mix for OL depth. Has anything changed?

  74. mj Says:

the bucs have a hard time figuring how to use their wrs. ME13 totally misused last year by grizz. Tez is a play maker change up guy, tiny smurf that can make plays, hopefully the new oc figures it out

  75. Toddler Bowls Says:

    You gotta be kidding me!!!
Licht, what the hell are we doing resigning this guy???

His crushing beer cans on his head is very entertaining at team events. He’s the new curly Joe in the clubhouse replacing Logan Hall. That’s why he was resigned

  76. 3.28.Evans Says:

This is Jason’s genius. No one else would’ve wanted the guy, and he performed poorly. So, sign him now.

Just Mike Evans, except Jason failed to sign Mike, although almost the same pedigree. One a hall of famer, the other a meathead who is better crushing empty beer cans than crushing below average defensive linemen.

He’s good with a bull cape though.

  77. Will Says:

    I still say Why?

  78. Proudbucfan Says:

This guy doesn’t even belong in the NFL. The Bucs do not want to win. 6-11 season. The front office and the owner’s are just waisting our time, the fans are being disrespected.
