Mike Evans Bids Bucs Fans Goodbye
March 14th, 2026
Classy move by former Bucs receiver and future Hall of Famer Mike Evans.
Friday morning, a reader twittered Joe and asked why Evans had not issued a thank-you note to Bucs fans for their strong support since he was drafted by the team in 2014.
Joe thought that was very unusual. Didn’t sound like Evans. Was he that PO’ed at the Bucs?
Joe only needed to wait a few hours.
Evans issued his goodbye through his foundation Friday night. There, he professed deep gratitude for Bucs fans for supporting him along the way and being able to share iconic moments in franchise history with Bucs fans, including winning the Super Bowl at The Licht House.
It seems Evans suggested he will always identify himself as a Bucs player. Texas A&M, too. He noted the Bucs molded him into the future Hall of Fame he became.
“I will always be a Buc at heart,” Evans said. “I will forever be grateful for the unwavering support you gave me and my family. … The bond we built will always mean the world to me.”
Classy move by a classy guy.

Nice post Mike. That’s why we love him and his family.
Will never 4get their IG live on the way home from the boat parade. It was so lit.

Is what it is. If Im Mike tho I came back home after my injury to revive us again.
He left bcuz of Todd and bcuz of the luster of a healthy 9ers D vs ours filled with holes at the time. Todd pizzed him the f off. And he gonna get the attention in San Fran. He craving
But if we draft an Edge in Rd 1 and David comes back.
We can beat them in the playoffs np.
Class Act. Hurts and will be missed. Not rooting 4 ur team tho.Love their organization
And our Receivers outplay yalls just sayin.
Baker beating Brock next time we play yall. And we just double you with Winfield and #21.
Peace out. Now stop talking ish. And drop one for us

Love Mike. He got fed up with the paltry showing by the leadership of this franchise. He suffered through some of the worst of the Lost Decade. He deserves to make his choice to pursue greatness when this team has chosen mediocrity.
I’ll be rooting for him when the Bucs either miss the playoffs or are knocked out early because the defense is hot garbage.

I will bet a lot of $$ that if coen was our current hc, this post wouldn’t have been needed. Bowels is at least 2yrs employed longer than he should’ve been and that why Evans left
March 14th, 2026 at 12:41 am
Cold hard truth .He left here went somewhere else He thinks he has a better chance of winning the Super Bowl. Lost all faith on Bowles as a head coach. Anybody that argues that point don’t know what’s going on and isn’t being honest about it. Why else would have left? But most importantly, why is Todd still the head coach of this team?
March 14th, 2026 at 12:46 am
Bum Baker costing the Bucs the playoffs last year also cost the Bucs their all-time best offensive player.
High cost to pay for a loser like Mayfield. That piece of garbage had better come through next year, and not be left with year of excuses about him being ‘hurt’ every time he single handedly knocks the Bucs out of the playoffs.
March 14th, 2026 at 12:55 am
Meant not rooting for 49ers nor their organization, but support Mike …
Hope he misses his 7 hammy games next year and 8 the following so he can spend more time with family. Hope he gets 1000 yards another year. And hope he gets doubled so the 9ers offense sucks. And hope he gets mad at Purdy sooner than later and they make it as far as a pick 6 by Parrish in January. I think he does well but hammy recovery lingers and happens bcuz he tries to do to much. I think their offense will struggle more than they think. Kittle is out and RB getting old. Their whole offense old ???. Defense too.
Mike makers 49ers better. But not better than us if we take an Edge at 15
March 14th, 2026 at 12:56 am
Mike makes 49ers better but not better than us if we Draft Edge Rd 1

Thanks, Todd. Thanks, Jason. Thanks, Glazers. 3rd and 28.
Retain Bowles. Great idea.

Good luck Mike!
Next stop Canton!
Go Bucs!
March 14th, 2026 at 1:45 am
Baker is way better than Purdy
Our Oline is better
Our WR room is better
Their TE is mia next year will be avg rest of his career
And I’ll take Bucky with healthy Guards any day over McCaffery whose prime just ended

March 14th, 2026 at 2:04 am
All Bucs have to do is face them with a healthy defense is stop the run which will do,
Double cover old Mike as he loses that $60 milly over 30 comfy now step,
And throw the Edge revamped sink at Purdy till he knows how steve young felt that day.

And last year with the playoffs on the line, Baker single handedly loses 4 games in a row to knock the Bucs out of the playoffs.
He was terrible, he missed simple throws all over the field, and there is no one to blame but Baker for that collapse.
Mike was there, he saw it, he knows what happened and he knows he doesn’t have years left to waste on a completely inconsistent bum QB who can make middle school level throws when the pressure is on. Mike was here for the Detroit game in the playoffs when Baker throws an INT with 2 mins left in one score. Mike was here vs the Redskins in the playoffs when the defense makes a huge 4th quarter goal line stand, and Baker has the chance to lead the team down – go up by 2 scores and put the game away, only to instead see Baker choke and fumble the ball, losing the game.
Baker is a bum who fails in the biggest moments.

Baker sucked after the bye. No two ways about it. It doesn’t help when he knows the defense can’t stop a dead pig from converting a 4th and 14.
Well out, Mikey. The true football understanding fans support your decision and lament the Bucs’ big fat one that made yours easy.
March 14th, 2026 at 3:34 am
Hey Mike,
You’re kinda get blasted over here in Tampa for saying absolutely nothing yet about the Bucs fanbase almost a week after the news broke that you’re leaving and that RayJay fans & Bucs simply weren’t doing it so much for ya anymore. Should we maybe think about putting something out there? It’s not a good look….
In the meantime, I’m looking into this Substation stuff for you and will have more on that.

March 14th, 2026 at 3:48 am
Oh my, @ Rod “Johnny Manziel One Note”…”Baker single handily lost 4 games…” Over, and over, and over. Your like Todd Bowles, blame everything on anyone else but the real problem. And don’t say there’s multiple reasons (you already blamed “Bum Baker”), because then you’d be acknowledging it’s a team sport. No one player “single handily” loses 4 games. Then you have to try and show you think you’re smart by explaining dashes and em dashes. What a tool.
Way to ruin the moment of this post, Butt Munch.
March 14th, 2026 at 3:54 am
@SimeonHofF, great plan and reference. But we better hope Purdy stays in the game. Todd’s defense is always terrible against back up QBs and rookies. And, Warren Sapp is no longer with us.
March 14th, 2026 at 3:58 am
And Simeon, I love your comparisons, but you don’t recognize the 49ers are better coached. If he’s healthy, he gets the ball under Shanahan. He showed with how he handled all those injuries in a tougher conference…he adapts!
March 14th, 2026 at 4:20 am
Nice post from ME13 Thanks for the memories & the great football . I for one ^&][..will always consider ME13 A BUCCANEER. NO one who understands the nature of the game can hate on ME13. Now that said, go away, he made his choice , the Bucs probably didnt want to get into a bidding war for a mid 30s WR , the Bucs have.other fish to fry & we have a good WR room with several guys who are above average. So thanks ME13 but go to your new adventure hope you hit all the bonuses. GO BUCS!!!!
March 14th, 2026 at 4:50 am
Rod Munch, as much as you have let the world know you have no faith in Baker: you cannot blame Baker for 3rd and 28, that is on either Todd or Jason depending on who you want to blame the most as well as the fact that if the Bucs even had a backup like Browning in for Baker when he was obviously hurt, there would not have been that losing streak and the Bucs would have found a W or 2 against the Saints, Fins, Panthers in Carolina etc. The Bucs did not want to go to Bridgewater under any circumstances. It was a bad D, and the special teams cost Bucs games as well. No accountability from Bowles until he was likely forced to make changes. he can say that he was not directed to launch people but that is likely not the case. Anyhow, we have one more year of Baker, like it or not. I think you want him to do well but just don’t think he will while some on this site simply want him to fail because they are not true Buc fans. He needs a healthy OL to be serviceable, lets hope he has that and see how he does. He is in the same boat as Bowles, a bad season and he will be gone.
March 14th, 2026 at 4:54 am
Hugh Glazerhouse: if the Bucs ever played Evans in an SF/Buc matchup, well Shanahan wil anticipate that Bowles will do his best to neutralize Bowles and simply use him as a decoy and Kittle will probably get a couple of TDs along with Ricky Pearsall and CMac will have a good day as Shanahan thinks on the level of 3D chess and Bowles has problems with checkers and tic-tac-toe.

March 14th, 2026 at 6:11 am
Look at the wording of the statement. Why can’t athletes ever put public statements in their very own words. I feel one million percent confident Mike Evans does not speak like this. Dude athletes are not enterprise account executives, attorneys or anything that requires a high degree of corporate speak, I just don’t understand why it’s necessary to have your agent draft this up or to have him pretty it up for the player. Or used ChatGPT. I understand with some players who may be…uhhh….”unrefined” like a Lamar Jackson would be better served to have someone else put out a statement but Mike is smart enough to just use his own words
March 14th, 2026 at 6:21 am
Rod. Baker Mayfield cost the Bucs their all time best offensive player. No Rod, Baker didn’t make Mike’s decision for him. But I have got to tell you if Baker has 4 or 5 more years in Tampa I will promise you one thing. And that is that Mike Evans won’t be the Bucs best all time offensive player.
March 14th, 2026 at 6:23 am
It’s do or die for Baker Mayfield no more injury excuses or blaming the defense or blaming Todd Bowles when the game is on the line and the ball is in Baker Mayfield hands to win or tie the game up. I’m sick of the it’s the defense fault when Baker throws picks and lose games for us. Again I’ve never seen a guy who gets the injury excuse every time he plays bad but never need surgery or have to do a clean up on a knee or shoulder. Baker choked away the second half of the season and 3rd and 28 don’t happen if Baker don’t throw a pick and miss Payne Durham wide open in the middle of the field and that’s fact that no one brings up. I remember the Jamies days when everything lost was his fault because he’s the quarterback now for Baker it’s every one else fault even though he’s losing the games on final drives of the game. Keep the same energy for Baker Mayfield that most of y’all had for Jamies!!
March 14th, 2026 at 6:55 am
Sad how far the Bucs have fallen. Losing Mike Evans to the 49er’s for less money must really sting.Dave Canales has helped the Panthers turn tings around and the some of the biggest free agents this season have taken less money to play there.
The Bucs decision to keep Todd Bowles on as head coach may have directly cost them the opportunity to keep a future hall of famer on the team. This team could have chosen Dave Canales or Liam Coen to be their next head coach. Jason Licht has made some really good personel decisions but the decision to keep Bowles (who the players clearly quit on last season) may cost him his job.
March 14th, 2026 at 7:03 am
I wish Evans would’ve gone to the Patriots, but Mandarin Bob has other ideas on what to spend his fans dollars on.
March 14th, 2026 at 7:08 am
It didn’t hurt me when you left me. I know best friends must part. But when I lost my mamma, that’s the one that broke my heart.
March 14th, 2026 at 7:44 am
Oldtimer, most pundits say Carolina overpaid for their free agents as did other teams like Vegas and the Titans. Carolina paid $120 million, $80 million guaranteed for an edge, Jaelan Philips, who got 5 sacks last year and has never got more than 8.5 in a season. If the Bucs paid that you know the trolls on this site would be all over the Bucs yet they applaud the Panthers because they are not Buc fans. If Carolina and their midget QB flames and finishes 4-13 or 5-12, Canales will be gone and the new head coach will have cap issues. Carolina plays a first place schedule, there is a reason Vegas odds have them finishing 4th. Bucs might be in better shape for 2027, maybe the Glazers and Licht are playing the long game.
March 14th, 2026 at 8:08 am

It’s time to stop bringing in todd Bowles for everything and just move on. He isn’t the ony one that screwed up.
And a certain someone needs to drop the “Bum” adjective when describing a quarterback that happens to play for us. He ain’t bad, And alot of teams would like to have him.
Lets all give Mike his due – I think he could have handled the whole thing a little better – leading with the fan appreciation before anything else woud have been a better choice – but he will retire a Buc.
Thanks for everything Mike – you are truly one of a kind and a special player!
March 14th, 2026 at 8:23 am

No problem with a man doing what he wants to do and where he wants to work. As long as he does it the right way, which he didn’t. The system is set up for cheating. Real character is doing the right thing when no one is watching. Probably 90% or more of the main free agents, their agents, and prospective teams did not follow the rules, just the way it is.
March 14th, 2026 at 8:58 am

Why are so many of you so petty? Mike played his ass off for this team and contributed a lot to the community. At the end of the day, everyone must choose to do what’s in their own best interest. Dude decided he wanted to take his family to San Francisco for the last years of his career and there’s nothing wrong with that.

No true fan should be blaming Mikey, or talking about what a great receiver room the Bucs still have. That room finished out the year like a homeless person in Cleveland. As did the rest of the team. Including the “MVP” quarterback fraud.
If you’re moving on from that 2025 atrocity, enjoy being a lamb dinner.

I agree. His agent put this and the other releases out. Probably using ChatGPT or another.
They should have put the one thanking fans out first. Bashing your old team is not smart. You just give them stuff to post in the locker room next time you play them.

Can’t believe he used ChatGPT to write a letter to Bucs fan after the diss and delay. Yea, “classy” sounds like the right word here. Not to mention it comes after the fact, but then you compound the after the fact part with inauthentic ChatGPT/Agent. I would say “meh” is a better word than classy here. Meh at best.
Still wish Mike well, thank him for everything and the dude is going to the HoF as a Buc….but it can still be true that this hasn’t been a good look if you look at it without Mike Evans blinders on and objectively and that he could’ve handled this all better than he has or did.

March 14th, 2026 at 1:05 pm
Meh.
I was there for the hammy injury. AND the broken collar bone. He is getting older, and he missed lots of games. It was going to end anyway. And he knows it.
I think he had a bruised ego with Emeka. The Bucs did not tag him. It’s all OK…..I just can’t get excited. He is in the twilight years.

No Mike, no Bucs.
Just a fat, arrogant, mumbling narcissist driving players away and keeping anyone great from wanting to join the team.
Brilliant.
March 15th, 2026 at 7:52 am
We can always count on Munch to figure out a way to blame Baker for all of the team’s problems. I’ve asked a half dozen times which QB that is/was available he would replace Baker with and never have heard anything but crickets, other than him saying Baker was better than Sam Darnold who somehow won a Superbowl (I guess winning has nothing to do with the QB but losing does).
March 15th, 2026 at 7:56 am
Here’s another fun question for Mr. Munch … If the Raiders would swap their #1 pick in the draft this year for Baker Mayfield, would you take the deal?
I hope not! I have a funny feeling that Fernando Mendoza may turn out to be J.J. McCarthy 2.0
March 16th, 2026 at 3:25 am
he didn’t have to do that, so thats nice. will I respect if he scores 11 TD next year? Yes. Will I feel relief if he pulls hammy and only plays 6 games. Yes.
