Best Free Agents Available

There for the taking.

The big fish is there for the taking. He’s just swimming around the boat.

Are the Bucs going to toss lures at him or are they just going to head back to the dock and call it a day?

The Bucs need an edge rusher so, so, so badly. But Joe isn’t convinced enough people at One Buc Palace share this conclusion or have burning ambition to resolve it.

Trey Hendrickson is still available. Yeah, he’s 31. Yeah, he’s coming off an injury. But when a team cannot develop a rookie edge rusher and (smartly) is hesitant to pay top-dollar for a top-of-the-line sack guy, *and* pay the massive freight to get him, you’re either left with prayers (Chris Braswell, Markees Watts) or rolling the dice on an aging edge rusher like Hendrickson.

The man from Warren Sapp High School in Apopka reportedly wants to play for Tampa Bay. Have you heard any whispers from the Schefters, Schragers, Rapoports or Schultzes that the Bucs are talking to his agent? Or that Hendrickson drove from his First Coast home across the state to hear what the Bucs have to say?

#Crickets

Joe simply does not get it. Hendrickson is flat out a better edge rusher than anyone on the Bucs roster. With mad respect to YaYa Diaby, Hendrickson is better.

As the confederate spy Henry Thomas Harrison said in “Gettysburg,” “And that, by God, is the Lord’s truth!”

If, for whatever reason, the Bucs have a hang-up about Hendrickson’s knee, then mediocre K’Lavon Chaisson is on the market. He had 7.5 sacks for the Patriots last year, which matches YaYa’s best season for sacks (rookie year).

Chaisson is better than nothing and the Bucs have a whole lot of that already.

And speaking of injuries, there’s good ol’ Joey Bosa. The guy, sadly, cannot stay on the field. But when he can get on the field, he’s still got gas in that tank.

Bradley Chubb is out there, too. He had six sacks coming off knee surgery but he played all 17 games last season. Sometimes, it takes longer to return from knee surgery. Maybe Chubb is a good buy-low guy on the rise back?

If you think Joe is sour this morning, you’re not wrong. Joe is still stinging from yesterday’s news. It’s hard, sometimes, not to be cynical.

  1. Todd Says:

    Good luck getting the glazers to write that check in free agency

  2. Vancouver Buc Says:

    Maybe he wants a no drop-back in coverage guarantee.

  3. Stretch-O-Matic Says:

    Yep Joe, you were 99% certain that Mike Evans was going to remain a Buc.
    I, like many others, knew better!

    “3rd and 28”

  4. Guzzie55 Says:

    Maybe 3 and 14 is the goal, Arch Manning and give Bowels another extension

  5. Austin Says:

    We HAAAAVE to get Hendrickson

    Would take so much pressure off everyone else up front

  6. scorpioedt Says:

    Are we better or worse? Rest of the divison is better

  7. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    No to Hendrickson.

    Maybe to Bradley Chubb…at least proved he was able to get sacks after the injury.

    But we still need to re-sign Irving, who did not get tendered.

  8. Srqbuc Says:

    It’s not too late to make todd Bowles a free agent!

  9. Jw94buc Says:

    Everywhere I Look im reminded of Mike Evans. After yesterday. I need a year or two off a football. Evans has been my favorite player. Literally would rather route for the Niners. Then stomach another asshat Bowles led team. First Liam Coen now Evans. Glazers, Licht and Bowles are the biggest simpletons. 3rd and 28…..

  10. SB~LV 🏈 Says:

    😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
    Now you know why ME is buying a house in Santa Clara …

  11. Hopein1hand… Says:

    Hendrickson best be getting the money ear-marked for make-sure-to-wear-flowers -in-your-hair Evans. (No love lost Mike, but give me these Antonio Brown level frustration moments) Todd done screwed the pooch.

    If Bucs fans’ deserve anything(they/I don’t) it would be a free head exam. Perhaps a nomination for the Darwin awards. Big E, Mike, human so far above petty football- enjoy a packed, cheering stadium- you derseve that because you are a true great. Sorry this crew could not deliver what you deserved.

  12. Fred McNeil Says:

    I’m ambivalent about Hendrickson. He only got 4 sacks last year.

  13. buc4evr Says:

    Watch Licht do nothing.

  14. SB~LV 🏈 Says:

    I told you after the last game of 2025
    To clean house and appoint Ronde Barber
    President of Football Operations and set the cruise control!

  15. kgh4life Says:

    The cowboys gonna get Henrickson and the Bucs will sign another bargain free agent edge rusher. The Glazers are too cheap.

  16. SB~LV 🏈 Says:

    Licht’s last draft….
    He got the meat sweats going on…

  17. Fred McNeil Says:

    I was just now looking at projections for Hendricksons’ salary. I also saw why he only got 4 sacks. Apparently he got a core muscle/hip injury in week 6 and aggravated it in week 7. Lost the rest of the year. Some sites project a 1 year deal for $21 million. Others say 3 years $99 million. I’m good with the first projection. That’s Mike Evans money and we don’t have Evans anymore. Seeing as Trey didn’t get signed on day 1 and the Bengals didn’t franchise him I’m guessing he’s going to hold out for something like the second estimate/$33 mil per year. His tag value would have been $30.1 mil. Too rich for the Bengals. I don’t think he signs anywhere till after the draft.

  18. HeartyDickerson Says:

    Devin Bush, PFF’s 4th ranked LB this year, just signed for the same amount we paid Otton, ranked 34th/37 TEs in PFF.

  19. Fred McNeil Says:

    I was hoping we would sign Bush. Saw that Tagoviola signed with Atlanta. We should have signed him as a backup. He’s salary is league minimum. Yeah, he’s a china doll, but Baker would be able to sit for a game or three to rest when needed and Tua would probably be ok health wise in temp duty.

  20. Fred McNeil Says:

    Yeah, we overpaid Otton.

  21. Crazyhorse54 Says:

    Thank you, Joe, for pulling back your curtain and letting us know it’s hard to not be cynical. You know many of us have taken off the rose colored glasses and see things clearly from OBP. Thank you, Joe.

  22. Teacherman Says:

    Hearty Dickerson

    I wanted Devin Bush also.

    The Raiders signed TWO middle linebackers.

  23. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    Starting Space: ~$19.96M

    Restructures (+$47.3M freed)
    * Wirfs: +$18.5M
    * Goedeke: +$15.2M
    * Winfield Jr.: +$13.6M
    Working Room: ~$67.3M

    Outgoing
    * Chaisson (3yr/$27M): ~$6M hit
    * Chubb (2yr/$24M): ~$9M hit
    * Draft Class: ~$8.5M
    Buffer Remaining: ~$43.8M

    Result: Diaby + Chubb + Chaisson — three edge threats, all 30 or under. Biggest weakness on the roster, erased.

  24. Mord Says:

    With the signing of Gainwell and Anzalone… Hmmm.

    Maybe what’s happening here is that, since edge is by far the most expensive position to address in free agency, they’re trying to fill the other positions of need in free agency first. If they can lock in a few quality starters that way, it means fewer draft picks have to be used just plugging holes .. which could free them up to trade up for one of the premier edge rushers in the draft, where that kind of talent is much more affordable under the cap.

    I know, I know.. the Bucs have never really shown they can develop their own at that position. But I’m thinking about it more as a financial strategy and .. maybe that “never” eventually has to end.

    It’s also possible that at 15 they’ll get a good one anyway (Howell, et al?) and won’t need to trade up. Or maybe they’re looking at the age of the top edge FAs and deciding that spreading those dollars across several pre- and post-draft signings (across multiple positions of need) is a better investment than paying a boatload for one aging edge rusher.

  25. Kevin Dodel Says:

    Bowles can’t spell edge rusher.

  26. BigZ Says:

    Stop. They are not signing him. After yesterday, I expect a ridiculous Cancey extension.
    Im shocked we spent 17 mil per on Gainwell and Rotten hands Add CG ridiculous contract and that 39 mil per. Wheres the big, game changer in those 3? One is even a starter. He cant hes too small and limited by his size.
    When Bucky gets hurt are you comfortable with Gainwell?
    Not me, Allgier was the guy to get.

  27. Anyhony Says:

    Other than Selmon have the Bucs ever drafted the best ranked pass rusher in any draft, and did they fail to develop him?

  28. BigZ Says:

    McCants, Curry and maybe Broderick Thomas.

  29. BucU Says:

    This team is getting worse by the minute. Glazers/Licht/Bowles are a laughingstock. F all of them. 2026 = 6-11.

  30. Scotty Mack Says:

    Hendrickson had 43 sacks during the last three seasons (missing 10 games last season). Jaelan Phillips had 10.5.

    As I said last week, Hendrickson is going to cost a lot more than he was projected to. There is no way his agent is going to let him sign for what Jaelan Phillips just got ($30 million per year).

  31. OLDSCHOOL1976 Says:

    Hendrickson would be better than nothing but probably wouldn’t live up to the cost. Give me Chaisson or Thibaduex in a trade. Even if Thibaduex. cost a second round pick he’s better than anyone we would draft and not develop and can play today. Anyone thinking about how much $$$ Baker will lose since Mike left? Mike upgraded across the board so I’m happy for him. I think the Bucs blew it on his last contract not giving him 3 years. No way I would give him 3 years now.

  32. LessisMore Says:

    One 32 year, old linebacker doesn’t fix the defense.
    Assistant to the assistant coaches that were promoted doesn’t fix the defense.
    Letting our best corner walk doesn’t fix the defense.

    Heck – we could have signed Alex Cappa to back up our starting guards – but we didn’t do that either.

    At this point the FO has dug such a hole, I don’t know if they can find the shovels to dig out.

  33. Guzzie55 Says:

    3-14 fixes a lot of problems, gets rid of Bowels Licht and Baker, gets us a top QB prospect and hopefully Tomlin

  34. #1bucsfan Says:

    JOE most of us are sour too. I’m not of these fans that want us to loose so we get rid of Bowles and I’m not going to keep crying over spilled milk either. He’s our coach. Gunna root for success not failure. If your rooting for a team cause of a player or coach then your not truly and fan of that team. Your a imposter or you might just be to entitled and immature cause you cry and throw a fit when the team doesn’t do what you want. 🤡 you are. I’m sour over the Bucs letting Mike walk. Guess what I’m still going to root for this team to be successful and even if they don’t fix the pass rush guess what still going to root for them to be successful cause that’s what a tru die hard fan does. Bin a fan for a long time 30 years. Still here and not crying like some of these imposters

  35. Mike Johnson Says:

    I’d be shocked if we did what we needed to do. And that is to go get Hendrickson. We Won’t, though. But I would. He is a game-changer and a driving force of enthusiasm for our Sorry Defense. Others will play better when they witness his motor. We are pretty cheap, so it’s probably off the table. Our Defense would be at least 75% better automatically with him. YOU GOTTA WANNA BE GREAT PEOPLE.
