Todd Bowles: Here’s The Beef

April 26th, 2024

One reason Joe was down on Penn State edge rusher Chop Robinson and is down on Western Michigan edge rusher Marshawn Kneeland is they didn’t produce.

Why should Joe expect a player to produce at a wildly higher level of football playing against grown men when the player didn’t or couldn’t against children?

So Joe wrote, as a nod to a famous chain cheeseburger restaurant, “Where’s the beef?”

To hear Bucs coach Todd Bowles talk today at One Buc Palace, the Bucs found a side of beef with rookie center Graham Barton, their first round pick.

As Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht said last night, the Bucs wanted to beef up the middle of their offensive line since the middle of last season.

Barton, Bowles believes, is exactly the guy Bowles had in mind.

“He fits the prototype of what we are looking for: Big fast and strong,” Bowles said. “We got a lot more beef in the middle where we can beef up and keep people off the quarterback from coming up the gut.”

The Bucs’ offense ranked 20th in the league in scoring last year, 2023. Will that extra beef improve the scoring? We should find out this season.

Joe does know Baker Mayfield got beat up last year. He really shouldn’t have played in the final regular season game at Carolina.

When Mayfield was fresh and healthy, he was dangerous. When he was beat up, he was just a warm body.

Perhaps Barton will help keep Mayfield healthier?

Time will tell if the Dolphins saved us from ourselves.

Read somewhere that Hainsey allowed 5 sacks, 27 hits, 55 pressures last year… No wonder he was hurt

    I will say this…….Hainsey is 6-4″ & 305………Barton is listed 6[5 and 313

Seems a lot bigger but isn’t……..I think the difference is in how he moves.

  4. No Mercy Says:

It’s a blessing that we didn’t have to make a choice between him or Barton. And considering how deep the Dolphins are at edge now, we probably won’t know how good chop truly is for at least a year or two

Size doesn’t always translate to strength. This kid seems to have both – and can move.

    Always enjoy your posts man!

The difference to me is in their builds. Hainsey is top heavy with skinny legs and Barton is more evenly distributed with thicker legs so a lower base of gravity which gives him more power.

Bakers injuries came from scrambling to get 1st downs most likely cause no one was open down field. Doubt it helps keep him healthier with bakers aggressive style of play

Hopefully the center giddiness is partially shmoke faking other teams from drafting a center before the Bucs pick in the 2nd round tonight!
Draft a center with the first pick tonight if there is a gem available.
Yes we have other positions in need of attention but the offense line is a unit, let’s put this Bucs oline to bed !

If we’re not moving up…and Frazier is still there…F it grab him

We’ll have the most solid O line for years…

    BAKER approved!

The IOL was atrocious last year. It’s surprising Baker got a playoff win and even more surprising he wasn’t killed. Love the pick!

Someone please correct me if I’m wrong, but baker didn’t have 1 injury due to a scramble for a first down. As I remembered he made huge 3rd down conversions in very meaningful situations on his scrambles. His injury’s were a result of bad pass protection. Thats exactly why we spent our first round pick on a center and not a WR
