Big Weight Loss Expected From Vita Vea

April 30th, 2024

It’s obvious that manbeast defensive tackle Vita Vea has played at around 360 to 370 pounds.

And he’s played well, but how much better might he play if was in a little better shape?

It seems Bucs fans are about to find out.

Tampa Bay defensive line coach Kacy Rodgers wouldn’t put a number on it today, but he strongly implied Vea will look like a leaner man at Bucs spring practices.

Rodgers said he “won’t let the cat out of the bag” and told reporters that they can see Vea and decide for themselves.

Coming out of college, Vea weighed 347 pounds at the NFL Scouting Combine in 2018.

Joe is intrigued. Again, less body fat won’t necessarily make Vea a better player, but it might keep him on the field for more snaps, which have been limited through his career.

hopefully he doesnt sacrifice too much power. but lighter should mean fewer injuries. LFG

  2. bucsfan951 Says:

did the bucs want him playing at that weight or was that a decision of vita?

  3. Booger Says:

Must be goin on that ozempic!

  4. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Drop down to 325 and be that 3rd & 1 RB we’ve been looking for.

  5. Casual Observer Says:

Bucsfan – good idea. Or maybe use the new tight end.

  6. Hodad Says:

Exciting news. Teammates will take notice of his effort, and you better keep up with the big Kahuna.

  7. catcard202 Says:

Vea has the body type / build to carry 330-340 athletically for NG….The 360-370 becomes a long term health concern, beyond the play % stamina issue. (370 can balloon to 4-bill in a minute!)

Vea has been a 2-down NG too often…But is getting paid like an every down force of nature. So, glad the staff is pushing for more from him.

  8. Larrd Says:

Too bad he hasn’t followed Suh’s example as far as diet and training! Maybe now he will.

  9. Saskbucs Says:

I would like to see him at 330-340. That is still plenty big enough and we don’t want him missing games. Take 20-30 lbs off those feet and ankles.

Now this the kind of out of the box thinking that we need more of around here.
    Ha!.Good stuff, dude.

  11. Proudbucsfan Says:

That decision was probably made by Vita himself. It’s good to hear that losing some weight will be all around healthier for him and he will be able to get more snaps.

If he was 350 for the combine, when he was doing everything possible to be in as good of shape as possible, there’s no way he wasn’t pushing 400 pounds.

Been saying it for years but he needs to lose weight, get down to maybe 330, that would make him a better pass rusher since he’d be quicker – and I highly doubt he’s suddenly not going to be able to stop the rush because he dropped a bunch of blubber.

People take that as I don’t like Vita, and that’s completely wrong. I like Vita and think he’s really good – and I want him on the field more, and its hard to be a true impact player when you’re missing half the snaps because you’re winded on the sidelines. Also I’m sick of seeing Vita pulled on long drives, as teams get to the goal line because he’s tired.

Lose some weight, and I think he could be a real ALL-PRO level guy, could approach 10 sacks and still be a top run stuffer. Do that, and you’re truly a special player – and he’s got that in him.

No matter what, when you lose weight, you lose muscle as well so will losing weight affect him in a negative way? I hope not, he carries the whole defense on his shoulders.

  14. Dave Pear Says:

Vita could be 400 pounds or 280 pounds. Under the revered genius, he has plateaued if not regressed. Someone needs to actually work with him, his raw talent and unbelievable strength, and make him into the All Pro he ought to be.

But in 2024, Todd will likely have him dropping into deep middle zone on 3rd and 7 to “confuse the opponent.”

  15. JA Says:

Convince him to the ingested basketball gut and you’ll be watching the Roadrunner chase down QB’s. Opposing OL’s won’t know what flew by then!

  16. Buccup Says:

He’ll definitely have a longer NFL career if he can keep the weight in check.

That I can totally see… they’ll blitz both corners that are playing wide outside, then drop 9 in coverage – that will completely befuddle the opposing QB and they’ll only have 12 seconds to figure out what to do with the ball.

    LOL! What?

Losing a bunch of fat around your stomach doesn’t suddenly make you weaker.

  19. unbelievable Says:

    @catcard – I agree.

He needs to be on the field more. And he needs to get his production back to those 2020 – 2021 levels.

Too bad he hasn’t followed Suh’s example as far as diet and training! Maybe now he will.

Pretty sure Suh hooked him up with his personal chef and training regimen details when he was injured in 2020… hence him coming back just in time for the Green Bay game.

  20. Mike Johnson Says:

I’ve always said Big Veta could stand to lose about 35 pounds. 335 to 340 to good playing weight for him. He looked about a good 380 last season.

  21. Oddball Says:

The hotdog diet got Vita SHREDDED!

Nonsense on the loosing weight=loosing muscle. Train right and loose the fat and gain some muscle. Besides lean muscle burns fat.

  22. heyjude Says:

Good to hear, much healthier for him and possibly less injuries.

  23. de bucs fan Says:

Vea losing weight feels like the long term answer. I’d rather he play longer for Tampa instead of being gigantic. I’m making the bold assumption less weight with a similar amount of power will keep Vita on the field more. Which is good. Plenty of old big dudes to learn how to play as a big NT in the NFL for a decade. Keeping Vita healthy will be more beneficial than some extra weight. Good on him.

  24. Rocket Dog Says:

Rb1 for sure at least 4 to 5 yards.Better than those little kid they have
