Tom Moore Will Return To Bucs For 2024

February 1st, 2024

Locked in.

Well, at least one assistant on the offensive side of the ball returns for Todd Bowles in 2024.

Per closet Bucs fan Peter Schrager of NFL Network, 85-years young Tom Moore will be grinding through tape of college prospects this winter and baking in the central Florida sun once again this summer at Bucs training camp.

But for a three-year hitch in the Army and a two-year sabbatical last decade, Moore has been a football coach since he was a grad assistant at his alma mater Iowa back in 1961. During the Kennedy Administration.

That’s some 58 years as a coach.

So, how long has Moore been coaching? Back when Father Dungy played quarterback at Minnesota in college in the mid-70s, Moore was his offensive coordinator. The same year Father Dungy was signed by the Steelers in 1977 as a defensive back, was also Moore’s first year in the NFL as the Steelers’ receivers coach.

When Bucco Bruce Arians was hired as the Cardinals’ head coach in 2013, he brought Moore with him to Arizona. Of course, when Arians took the Bucs gig in 2019, he made sure Moore was at his side.

At an age when most people are just happy to be on this side of the ground, Moore is still grinding in the NFL. God bless him. Moore is what you call a football lifer.

You guys do make a lot of grammatical errors.

  2. Ko Kiefer Says:

Fire Bowles. Promote Moore to head coach. Bring in Manning as offensive coordinator. Super Bowl.

  3. BUCS SQUAT Says:

I love everything I hear and read about this guy and God love him still doing it at His age and I mean no disrespect but I’m not sure what he does?

  4. Buc Fan in CO Says:

Out of absolutely nothing but pure curiosity, why has this dedicated professional never been a head coach? I’m not asking with an angle or intent, no slight to his amazing career, just wondering why the cards never played out in that direction?

  5. CleanHouse Says:

    Make him offensive coordinator!

  6. adam from ny Says:

I didn’t realize Moore had been coaching since Dungy played QB at Minnesota in college in the 1970s. Wow, so happy for him and us! Much respect for the man.

Shouldn’t this be the new OCs decision? Moore is an offensive assistant afterall.

The Bucs should pass on any OC stupid enough to not want this guy around.

  14. realistic-optimistic Says:

I have no problem retaining Tom Moore. You misunderstood me. I just think the OC on a team should decide which offensive coaches/assistants belong on the staff. Not the defensive HC that claims to be hands-off with the offense.

  15. Bobby M. Says:

Not a single defensive assistant has been poached but offensive coaches are lining up to join a rookie HC on the worst team in the league with the most unpredictable owner in the NFL. That’s a bit telling of how Bowles is perceived within the league.

  16. All_da_way Says:

Moore will help the new OC out so I am not too worried about that hire when it happens.

  17. Jeffs grandpa Says:

You’d be a fool not to have his knowledge on your staff

  18. JimBobBuc Says:

Wasn’t Moore the OC for the rookie Peyton Manning? I’m also curious about what his roles are? Seems like he and BA could help review OCs.

  19. Bucswin? Says:

Is he a run up the middle guy? Has anyone asked him what he thinks of this strategy?

Todd Bowles is not ‘hands off’ with the offense. It’s foolish to believe otherwise. He may give them some latitude, but I highly doubt he’s totally uninvolved.

Passion really does keep you alive, he looks insanely unhealthy but he’s addicted to football.
