Chris Godwin: First Eagles-Bucs Game Should Have Little Bearing On Preparation For Monday Night

January 13th, 2024

Wide receiver Chris Godwin.

There was a common theme or a narrative coming out of One Buc Palace this week. And it wasn’t the health of Baker Mayfield.

No, the theme or narrative (rehearsed) coming from many players was that the Bucs were still learning the offense under first-year offensive coordinator Dave Canales. Therefore, the Bucs are a different team than when they hosted the Eagles in Week 3.

A cynic would say, “Yeah, at least the offense has evolved to where you aren’t scoring touchdowns in a game any longer” in the wake of a 9-0 win against the worst team in the league last weekend.

Receiver Chris Godwin offered a little more detail as to why the offense is changed and different.

“Just going through an entire season, figuring out who you are, going through the ups and downs of a season, you know, things have changed in a lot of ways,” Godwin said. “I’m excited about the opportunity.”

Change works both ways, Godwin pointed out. And he’s right. The Eagles will surely change things up, if for no other reason than they don’t want to be predictable.

Besides, it’s not like the Eagles want to be consistent given that they’ve lost five of their last six games. If they don’t change, the defending NFC champs will be on vacation by midnight Monday.

Godwin is not expecting the same Eagles team that stomped the Bucs in Week 3.

“At the same time, they’ve changed as well,” Godwin said. “Surely, they’re going to come into the game with a different game plan and plan to attack us in a different way.

“Obviously, we have already played this year, but things will be different this week.”

Does that difference include a Bucs win? That would certainly be a difference.

I thought play calling was better in last game but Baker missed all the throws. And Penex looked awful vs Michigan.

    Penix

  3. BucsFan Says:

Run for 100 yards and play clean to beat the Iggs.

  4. Dew Says:

I don’t think Kansey played in the first game vs the Eagles, & Yaya played very little? Hopefully they make a difference in this game.

  5. Beeej Says:

Matt Feiler was barely a speed bump to their linemen

  6. Todd Says:

Philly is going to expect us to get Godwin and Evans involved right away. Canales is prepared for this expectation and will instead depend on running up the middle on the first two downs of every series before a failed pass attempt and punt.

This he hill have them right where he wants them going into the 4th quarter behind by two TD’s.

At that point the Eagles will KNOW we have to pass…and that’s when the HUGE “fake” will come in with running White up the middle on…you guessed it, 1st and 2nd downs.

Man this is going to be AWESOME!!!

    Freaking LOVE these mind games!!!

  7. DungyDance Says:

Blah blah blah. I’ll tell you one thing that hasn’t changed, and that’s their ability to execute the shove play. Our stout defense on goal line stands against other teams will not be reliable against this team. If we come out with this zone defense crap and give them 4-6 yrd completions at will, allowing them to march down the field, then this game will get out of hand. Adapt or die.

  8. Buckeyebuckchuck Says:

Bill Parcells said the season starts after Thanksgiving. Iggles have been pathetic. That’s a team looking for a reason to clean out their lockers and hide from the media. No dawg in them, not this year

  9. OlBoy Says:

Hahah we are a different team, theme.Different isn’t better.

So anyway, after we lose, will todd B and this pr dept still have a job?

  10. Defense Rules Says:

Joe … ‘Therefore, the Bucs are a different team than when they hosted the Eagles in Week 3.’

Uhh, Bucs scored 58 points in their first 3 games (19.3 PPG average) while learning a new offense. Bucs scored 290 points in the remaining 14 games (20.7 PPG average). The difference really is quite insignificant, especially considering that the reason they were lower in the first 3 games was because PHILADELPHIA limited them to only 11 points.

Bogus excuse. Eagles took this Bucs’ team to the outhouse & beat the crap out of them. No wait, that’s woodshed. My bad.

  11. SB~LV Says:

    Yep !

  12. Carolina K Says:

It’s gonna be a dog fight

  13. SB~LV Says:

    Yeah

  14. BucsBeBack (Artist formally known as: BringBucsBack) Says:

Why would the eggles change their game plan? They dominated the line of scrimmage last time, on both sides of the ball, then did what they wanted to. They are going to change that?

  15. Jerseybuc Says:

They pushed us around last time. Our lines were dominated both sides of ball. Eagles are dysfunctional now philly radio is already convinced coaching change coming. We have an opportunity that we can’t miss now/ come out fast and this team will be done. If not they have plenty of excellent players. We cannot come out flat like NO. I am not sure Todd can get this team ready, hope I am wrong but I am flying down to find out.

  16. Crickett Baker Says:

HLB means something like High Level Bucs.
