Mariah Godwin Deletes Todd Bowles Posts, Offers Clarification

December 7th, 2023

Wife explains posts.

Sure smells like someone got to Chris Godwin’s wife Mariah this morning.

Yesterday, Mariah Godwin got fed up with what she felt was a narrative coming from the Bucs, and specifically Bucs coach Todd Bowles, claiming her husband was somehow not being used because of injuries. That did not bear out with neither his snap counts nor the fact the Bucs handed the ball to Godwin in crunch time to run in a 19-yard touchdown.

Only crazy people hand the ball off to hurt receivers to score on the ground from 19 yards out.

Mariah Godwin flat out called Bowles a liar or claimed he was lying more than once in her posts.

This morning, the posts vanished and roughly around 9 a.m. She posted a clarification of the previous day’s Instagram stories posts.

“Lots of people drawing conclusions of things that I didn’t say from what I posted yesterday, which is to be expected from the internet,” Mariah Godwin posted. “To be clear: My point was that I don’t like seeing Chris work so hard, even through injuries, and it be said that he was essentially only working part-time.

“That just wasn’t true so it was frustrating to see. And because of how he prides himself on working hard no matter what and not using injuries as an excuse, that felt like implying negativity on his work ethic.

“But I am hopeful and excited for the next game as I always am, and it’s alway ‘Go Bucs.’ That doesn’t change.”

So if Mariah Godwin expected “the internet” to twist her words and make wild conclusions or speculation, why the need to delete the post and issue a clarification?

Joe guesses someone with the Bucs communications staff asked her to do this and maybe even offered her some talking points to use in the clarification.

how is she going to say the internet twisted her words when she flat out called todd a liar?

  2. Kory Says:

She said what she said and I have no problem with it. Although it is bad to blast your significant others employer/coach and put your significant other in a very awkward situation at work today

  3. HC Grover Says:

They want outta here next year.

  4. Tye Says:

Most people agree that with the talent on this team, a decent HC would have them running away with the NFCS division crown chase!

    Go Bucs! Go AWAY Bowels!

  5. A Bucs Fan Says:

This and CG didn’t practice today. I wonder what the future holds. It’s not like Mariah Godwin is Miko Grimes.

  6. Tony Marks Says:

Oh come off it Joe. Just admit when you don’t have a story and be done with it

Its OBVIOUS who got to Godwin’s wife

Its Godwin who as suspected Did NOT approve of the message.

Tampa Bay should do like Green Bay. Glazers should sell the team to the fans and city. Hire Brady for HC and we will have the best franchise in the NFL

  9. Let em bake Says:

Like I said, not a good look on Chris, at precisely the wrong time. He had to see it squelched , and it is.

  10. HC Grover Says:

    Get Lynch for GM too.

  11. Boss Says:

it did need to be said though. better to ask for forgiveness than permission

  12. Jack Clark Says:

I’m glad Chris Godwin got his wife under control because she could have cost him millions of dollars. Head coaches don’t want their player’s wife to criticize them and call them liars on the internet. Funny how Mariah Godwin can degrade people on the internet for drawing conclusions from things she didn’t say while at the same time accusing Todd Bowles of something he did not say. That shows she has a lack of integrity and accountability. Hopefully that will not rub off on Chris Godwin.

Yep plain and simp and the deletion is in response to Godwin saying

love you babe but stay in your lane I’ll decide as the Football player if theres a problem and how to handle if there is.

  14. realistic-optimistic Says:

Brady for HC? Yeah right. If he could do that why wasn’t he calling audibles to get out of the many, many bad playcalls last season?

  15. SB Says:

Miko Grimes part 2. However, I agree with her.

Won’t it be Ironic if CG has a Monster day.
I was more or less forced to start him this week so…….fingers crossed.

    ___ l

like I said before when you posted this dumb take – one need go no further than Michael Jordan to see the obvious – GOAT player doesn’t equal even a half decent coach or front office guy

  17. ElioT Says:

She’s not wrong and has every right to post whatever she wants.

Toad did either lie or is stupid enough to open his mouth about things he’s not informed on.

Can’t wait till this whole coaching staff is axed in the offseason.

The Bucs are on the verge of irrelevancy and fans are getting more apatheic as the weeks go on.

  18. Beeej Says:

Saying Bowle’s statement is inaccurate is ONE thing, calling him a liar is something else,..it implies she knows his mind. Clearly, he gained control of his b!tch!

  22. Steven007 Says:

Agree with a few others, shades of Miko. Accuracy or not, it’s not a good look.

  30. A Bucs Fan Says:

Did anyone see Brandon Marshall’s interview with Mike Evans yet!? He did Bucs fan a solid and encouraged Mike to stay in Tampa!

  31. 1#bucsfan Says:

Internet does twists people’s words and take things out of context. I’m glad she called Bowles out. Needs to be more of this like why are you playing so much zone when your DBs are man to man guys or not being aggressive and instead being conservative. Why are you trying to run so much for hen we are obviously built for passing why throw screens to Edmond when RW1 is a beast at recieving and making people miss. I can go on n on. Why why why bowles why

  32. HC Grover Says:

The owners of the Bucs need an offer they can not refuse. Could the fans buy them out? Fans would not put up with this stuff. How would that work. All they care is a SB every 20 0r so years ans the dollar signs. They are not football oriented.

  33. Mike S Says:

The walls are closing in on Baker Mayfield.

  34. teacherman777 Says:

    She is dumb.

    She shouldn’t have done this.

    Very bad look.

I saw Godwins eyes when Mike broke the record.

    He looked sad.

He sacrificed his body in Arians offense. He was like a full back!

He has sacrificed 1000 yard seasons so Mike could get his 1000 yards.

Godwin is a saint. I hope he will get more targets next year.

He deserves a 1000 yard season too!

  35. HC Grover Says:

Current value of Bucs i apx 1 billion 67 million. That would be. 5335 a share for 200000 shares. I would buy a share myself for 5335.

  36. The Beer Whisperer Says:

Just imagine: Cashing those big checks every week, then complaining.

I wish, I had those problems, lol

  37. Jack Clark Says:

It’s a shame that the Bucs are getting more national attention from one of our players wife posting her opinion on the internet than us winning football games smh

  38. A Bucs Fan Says:

@teacherman what are you talking about? Yes he did sacrifice his body and play hard, and he got paid for it. He also has had 3 1,000 yard seasons out of the last 4 with the exception being 2020. That year Mike only had 5 more catches and just 166 more yards than CG. The disparity this year is that Godwin has been targeted 85 times with just 54 catches. That’s an insane drop in catch percentage for someone who had over 90 catches the past two seasons. That problem falls squarely on the Baker Mayfield who doesn’t go through his professions, misses wide open receivers and is inaccurate on his throws making his receivers adjust to the ball when they shouldn’t have to.

Who is the reason mayfield is starting right now? Todd Bowles. They both must go. I won’t sit and watch another lost decade of mediocre football. I swear watching this team I am in the twilight zone. Definitely Lovie Smith 2.0 2023 edition.

  39. HC Grover Says:

Sell the Bucs to the fans.

  40. stpetebucfan Says:

    “Get Lynch for GM too.”

Yeah as long as you don’t trust him with the “draft capital” for a QB in the first round. For all John’s success, and the Niners are probably the best team in the league right now…Lynch absolutely screwed the pooch on drafting a QB in the first round He traded THREE FIRST ROUND PICKS. What does he have to show for it..a 4th rounder in trade dump and an enormous amount of LUCK that Mr. Irrelevant turned out to be decent.

Having said that…John did such a great job on the rest of the team that EITHER Buc QB could win with that team.

    FIRST – Get a coach!

Second – Continue to add to the young guys who are showing promise. This team does not need to be blown up…just can’t afford to waste draft capital before the job is done.

  41. Wes Hall Says:

People need to stay out of other people’s problems. In other words stfu.

  42. bagelman Says:

HC Grover Says: “Don Shula and Vince Lombardi bagleguy”

Neither was a great player. Shula played in 73 NFL games and Lombardi played two years of semi-pro ball. Like I said, no great player has ever been a great coach.

  43. Wes Hall Says:

Anyway, opinions are like assholes, everybody has one.

  44. TF Says:

Bagleman… Mike Ditka, Forrest Gregg, Raymond Berry, all coached their teams to SB and not so bad coach HOF player Art Shell. The more recent “average” players are EVERYWHERE and they have plenty of time to because great coaches.

  45. Wes Hall Says:

The majority of Tampa Bay fans are spoiled. Brady was great, but Brady is gone. Wake up fans.

  46. The Beer Whisperer Says:

Yep, her hate-mail should be directed towards the guy throwing the football.

    Just my dumb opinion.

  47. Bojim Says:

  48. Rod Munch Says:

She’s a wife defending her husband, probably from a bunch of internet trolls saying ‘Bowles’ said this, said that, etc.

    Who gives a care?

Also, congrats to her for sticking up for her man, regardless of if it’s actually true or not, she thought it was true, and she was in attack mode. Good for her.

  49. Rod Munch Says:

BTW, the Bucs official account on YouTube just posted a 2+ hour video of every catch of Evan’s career.

  50. Frank Pillow Says:

She got it right the first time.

  51. HC Grover Says:

    bagleboy what do you suggest?

  52. WyomingJoe Says:

I agree with Tony Marks in that this was a nothing story Joe. MS was angry and she jumped the gun. Emotions will do that. NO ONE believes that anyone in the Bucs organization told her to backtrack her statements. Clearly her husband did.

A Bucs Fan: How the h*ll do you know that Baker doesn’t go through his progressions? Just look at his h ad and shoulders sometime or watch some of the post-game analysis videos. The 75 yard TD to Evans was Baker’s second read!

  53. Statguy Says:

This is all over blown. She made one post in 7 years, now let’s talk about how godwins hasn’t been the same since he got hurt and we still paid him like he wasn’t at the time. He’s been making tough catches but he isn’t getting the separation he used to. He is working hard, he is getting reps, blah blah, he isn’t what he was and it’s not anyone’s fault

  54. Mike C Says:

HC grover, get a life bro lmao you are sad hahahaha

  55. McBucky Says:

This is what losing does. Good thing we got the rest of the year to go with Todd Bowles. Watching the Bucs play under Bowles is like watching the Titanic go down.

  56. Bosch Says:

She did it at Chris’s request. Only difference between first and second is
she did not literally call Bowels a liar.

  57. SufferingSince76 Says:

    Grover’s trolling nonsense today. 😏

  58. A Bucs Fan Says:

@WyomingJoe are you kidding me? That’s been one of the biggest knocks on Mayfield his entire career. Are you Mayfields kin? He does not go deep into his progressions. He was literally coined the “one read QB” by the Browns when he was a starter. I would link it here if I didn’t think it would put me in moderation.

He has limited field vision, misses wide open receivers and takes sacks or throws it away, and has bad footwork. It’s the reason OBJ’s father posted the YouTube video of him being wide open so many times and Baker missing him.

You have to be Bakers family member or closely related to defend someone who is obviously not a good football player. Regardless of his “grit” and “leadership ability” his play is BAD. Otherwise you’re just in denial about your favorite college player busting in the NFL.

  59. Allen Lofton Says:

People have a right to post. She called it like she sees it. She has to be admired for standing up for her husband. Somes coaches are good at coaching and leading.

Coach Bowles is good as a Defensive coach. His second go around as a Head Coach is much like his first one. The Glazers need to do their good diligence and get it right. Find another BA.

  60. confido75 Says:

Bucs front office probably called the Godwin family and demanded she delete and “clarify” her statements. The PR department’s job is to put fires out like this. She just said what the players are thinking. Bowles just needs to go barring a miracle!

  61. NJbucs23 Says:

What a hot mess bowels has this team in. Show him the door and all of Bruce Arizon staff. Thanks for everything. Todd, you will be paid for 3 years to sit home. Bye !!

  62. Larrd Says:

I hope the Bucs didn’t give her talking points because those talking points are pretty dumb.

What does it all say about Chris Godwin?

  63. Since76 Says:

It’s not like she said anything we all didn’t know already. This makes me think that Godwin will want to jump ship too now. This coach is going to lose players and lose more games next year. Way to go glazers. Running a well oiled machine here.

TOTAL Bull . He’s always had haters who said things like that but neither the greater fan base or the organization sticked that label on him.

Theres enough ex brow fans on this blog to call you on your garbage. You are just being stupid. No “by the Browns ” organization or any NFL organization would put that on their starting QB.

They want outta here next year.

Trade Godwin to Chicago in exchange for their pick in the 2024 draft. I don’t like it, since we’ll probably have a new HC and OC who could make better use of Chris’s skills, but if the Godwins want out of Tampa that trade might make sense. Godwin becomes THE go to receiver in Chicago, the Bucs get their franchise QB, and we either draft Godwin’s replacement or get one via free agency.

  68. A Bucs Fan Says:

@TonyMarks – is the Dawg pound daily not affiliated?

  69. Bucsfan81 Says:

Godwin will probably be traded or gone in the offseason leaving more money to sign Evans, Winfield and Wirfs

  70. Defense Rules Says:

Tye … ‘Most people agree that with the talent on this team, a decent HC would have them running away with the NFCS division crown chase!’

You’re drinking the Kool-Aid Tye. The only reason we’re even in the chase is because the other NFC South teams are bad. Bucs were reasonably healthy when we played the Eagles, Lions & 49ers, yet we were never in any of those games; we got whooped. Our starters are representative of about a mid-tier team, and we have very little depth. That’s what paying slightly less than $130 mil in active contracts (4th lowest in the NFL) buys you nowadays.

We’re not alone in what we’re going through by any means. Other top teams from the most recent past are right there with us … Packers, Rams, Saints, Patriots, Titans among others are all ‘paying the piper’ now because they mortgaged the future in recent years past, just like we did.

We’re not a good team, and sadly we’re regressing instead of improving. Todd Bowles sealed his own fate IMO when he (1) dual-hatted himself as HC & DC; and (2) hired a rookie OC to ‘fix’ our offense by implementing Bowles’ offensive vision. And don’t overlook what Chris Godwin said today about the new offense when he called it ‘way different’ according to Joe. Nor can we overlook injuries, especially to key players. Hard to win in today’s NFL with all that stacked against you.

  71. BakerBucs Says:

just read article bout long throws this year guess who has tied for the most 40 yards or more bombs to. all u baker haters baker is tied with purdy,& tua.t now all the haters say he can’t throw the bomb but he is tied with 9 for the year with those 2 so where r u r crap bout mayfield posts jokers

  72. BakerBucs Says:

funny how all u people making post daily bout what is happening next year I don’t even think glasers knows what next year brings how the hell do u stupid dumb post know I had no idea u owned this team or a actually have any say so shut u r pie hole

  73. Oneilbuc Says:

Look who’s playing quarterback that’s why he’s not getting the ball. You have a below average quarterback. Even Jamies had Godwin at a 1,000 yards Brady as well until he got hurt . Baker Mayfield is not a starting quarterback and he’s showing you why he’s on his 4th team in 6 years and no other team wanted Baker Mayfield as a starter but the bucs lol 🤣🤣!! This was a waste of time starting Faker Mayfield this season and I told y’all that when they snig him . Especially when Kyle Trask was better than Baker Mayfield even IRA said it to the anti Kyle Trask Joe . Lol 🤣🤣

  74. garro Says:

I wish she had stuck to her guns! I also wish she had not deleted her posts.
It’s not often that social media posts are proper, correct and should not be deleted these days.

    A) Bowles did misrepresent the truth…I call them lies.
    B) She was doing nothing in any way improper by calling him out on it.
    C) Nothing incorrect in anything she posted. Factual.

Yet another improper handling of PR by the Bucs if they did “reach out”.
They have had some whoppers this season. The new PR lady needs to find another line of work.

    Go Bucs!

  75. Toad Bowels Says:

  76. Toad Bowels Says:

Research Joe (The Joe ,of Joes, who is able to pull out amazing facts), can you research something for us?

How many times in Baker Mayfield’s career was he able to consistently feed a second receiver?

As I recall, in Cleveland he utilized only one receiver, Jarvis Landry. Meanwhile such talents as Odell Beckham were wasted just as Chris Godwin is being wasted. When Odell spoke out about it, he was traded.

So the question I have is can Baker Mayfield support two top wide receivers such as Mike Evans AND Chris Godwin?

What does the evidence show, historical research whiz Joe?
