Historic Hands Of Rachaad White

October 27th, 2023

Comparing numbers.

Joe joins all Bucs fans in acknowledging and embracing team and NFL history.

So that’s why Joe is typing this about running back Rachaad White.

This season, White has caught 29 of his 30 targets. That’s a 96.7 percent rate. The NFL record for catch percentage in a season is 94.9 percent.

How Buccaneers it would be if White’s cleats and jersey land the Pro Football Hall of Fame this season for breaking a league receiving record while Bucs fans collectively puke at his ineffectiveness in the run game.

That reminds Joe of how former Bucs QB Ryan Fitzpatrick got a display at the Hall of Fame for becoming the first NFL quarterback to throw for 400 or more yards in three consecutive games, a feat he accomplished to open the Bucs’ 2018 season.

White has had two very strong games in a row catching the ball. He’s a weapon out of the backfield; he’s often a liability in the backfield. White sure appears to have a long future as a third-down back.

Last season, White caught 50 of his 58 targets in his rookie campaign, a very strong rate.

Let’s not hijack the comments to a different subject out of the gate. Thank you. You can blast Baker Mayfield later. –Joe

  2. Tbbucs3 Says:

White makes a great RB2 terrible RB1….hmmm it’s almost like theres a reason Leftwhich used him that way last year.

  3. Tampabaybucfan Says:

There is no question White has a long term value out of the backfield…..in particular as a 3rd down back……we just need to find a power runner for 1st & 2nd downs.

    His hands are fantastic.

  4. Craig Says:

Maybe they should find a real running back and move him to the slot receiver position.

He still has a blind spot in his vision for finding holes to run through. Maybe he needs Lasik surgery.

  5. Buccos Says:

He ran the ball with authority last night. Stinnie at guard may have been an upgrade. Trey Palmer needs to quit holding on our best runs. That would bring the average way up. We competed until the final whistle. Nothing to be ashamed of

  6. 76doug Says:

Joe, question, why don’t they give Tucker a shot? Surely he can’t be worse running the ball than White or Vaughn right?

  7. Doctor_berto Says:

He can’t find holes because there aren’t any! Check pff and look how he’s graded out compared to the interior lineman. No one would be able to run with this line.

  8. Pryda…sec147 Says:

He will get better the man has that slow 1st two steps I’m sure he will get it together soon

  9. JByrd Says:

Doctor careful. That doesn’t mesh with the narrative people are trying to push that there are holes everywhere and Rachaad just can’t see them. Stinnie definitely helped the run game but may have hurt the pass pro.

  10. Joe Says:

Joe, question, why don’t they give Tucker a shot? Surely he can’t be worse running the ball than White or Vaughn right?

Well, so far he has been. Thus far, Tucker has looked every bit the undrafted free agent he was.

Yes, small sample size. Joe is also guessing Rachaad White is a much better blocker. We know White is pretty good catching the ball.

Seems the Bucs have placed Tucker in the “earn it” mode.

  11. Bucs13 Says:

White is a fantastic receiver out of the backfield. He’s very dependable. That’s why Brady wanted him on the field during the last game against the Saints last year. White scored the winning touchdown. It’s hard to earn Brady’s trust, but White did in a short amount of time. Give White his credit this game.

  12. Jack Clark Says:

Rachaad White is a good running back imo, especially when he has an opening to run through. He just needs better run blocking and better coaching so he stops trying to change directions more than twice and be more decisive where to run.

  13. Mike S Says:

    Oh I will Joe – I will.

    “Tbbucs3:

Leftwhich used him as RB2 because he was a rookie and we were paying Fournette like 7million… all to the tune of a league worst 76 rushing yards per game.

  15. Buckeyebuckchuck Says:

So in lieu of a running game look for short passes to White. If it works do it

  16. Lou in srq Says:

My thoughts about him is put him at slot..in space he is an excellent option

  17. batangparang Says:

do you guys remember Charles Simms???same thing

  18. Mr. Editor Says:

Many years ago, a Bucs rookie running back, “Cadillac” Williams became the first player in NFL history to start a career with three consecutive games of 100-yards rushing, and his gloves and cleats are in the Hall of Fame. If we can only get that kind of production out of White….Sigh!

  19. Biggun Says:

RW is much better past the line of scrimmage with the good hands, I think when he’s taking the handoff he overthinks and stops his forward progress… keep him in play for a dink and dunk option in case things breakdown with downfield targets. Maybe Edmonds can carry the rock more successfully on 1st and 2nd down attempts, look I expected a terrible year with the changes but if they can get it worked this year and get some more pieces this team can do well, including Baker!

  20. FortMyersDave Says:

Geez Joe, it seems like White could be a threat out of the slot or out of the backfield as a 3rd down back. He does have good hands and for whatever reason he runs better with the rock after a catch than on a run behind the Bucs OL despite shaving holes to exploit, dude just has tunnel vision in the running game.

  21. Les Says:

Yes ,get white in space were he can exploit the opposing defense .dude can catch .put him in the slot .can change him out with Godwin who is money in the slot to.

  22. Tbbucs3 Says:

    Pepsi

I’m sorry, were you in the offensive staff meetings at OneBuc Place? Jesus some losers refuse to give our former Superbowl winning OC a sliver of credit.

“White is a fantastic receiver out of the backfield. He’s very dependable. That’s why Brady wanted him on the field during the last game against the Saints last year”

Yep that was all Bradys decision making, anything good that ever happened last year was because of Brady, anything bad we can all blame Lwftwhich. That’s how it works right?

  23. orlbucfan Says:

The one offensive positive from this one is Canales is starting to open up his offense. He’s got a lot of good receivers in different positions.I’m crossing my finders that the Houston game will show him and the offense finally get each other/are on the same page.

  24. pepsi Says:

Tbbucs3 where is hot shot Leftwich working now?

  25. Big_Surge Says:

Baker needs to lean on his check downs more instead of holding onto the ball too long . If baker would hit the check down more consistently we would find ourselves in more manageable down and distances . I would take a dink and dunk check down.offense that methodically moves up the field over trying to force the ball to receivers . This was what made Tom Brady so special and think about how prolific James white was( should have been Super Bowl mvp against the falcons) coming out of the backfield .

  26. Rod Munch Says:

White has had two very strong games in a row catching the ball. He’s a weapon out of the backfield; he’s often a liability in the backfield.

    ——–

If you combined the rushing average of Edmonds PLUS Vaughn, they still weren’t even close to what White got you last night.

Here’s an idea, instead of wasting even more downs running with Vaughn and Edmonds, keep White on the field. That would help.

  27. 1#bucsfan Says:

Gotta find a good RB to pair white with. Make a trade or find one. If you bring in a good back with vision it would help white. White is a beast catching out of the backfield and someone white could watch with good vision would benefit him. Get that dude the ball in space and he gets yards. And he isn’t bad at pass blocking

  28. Lakeland Steve Says:

Trade both Whites to another team and get some pics.

  29. Rod Munch Says:

If we had only traded for Zack Moss, he’d have had 330 yards rushing last night in a 45-0 Bucs blowout win. DAMN YOU LICHT!!!!

  30. Scott Says:

White actually looked pretty good and advanced metrics say he’s good. It has to be the line

  31. The Beer Whisperer Says:

Yesterday: Rachaad White is a bum.
Today: Rachaad White, all-time leader in pass catching percentage.

Sports fans are funny like that, lol

  32. Toad Bowels Says:

Big Surge comment is spot on, Rashad White is James White 3rd down back emeritus.
Now we need a 1st and 2nd down back
