“You Don’t Deserve A Damned Day Off”

SAS: Bucs need work.

It seems Todd Bowles has a powerful friend in the Fourth Estate.

As recently as yesterday, Bowles said he has zero plans to rest starters in a lame-duck game Sunday at Atlanta, despite the fact the Bucs have a 45-year old quarterback and have locked up their playoff position and a home playoff game next weekend.

One reason is Bowles has said repeatedly that his team needs work and thus, need the snaps.

From a distance, screamin’ Stephen A. Smith of BSPN stands and applauds Bowles.

Yesterday on the four-letter, SAS made a passionate case of how badly the Bucs need extra practice and extra game reps. And, like Bowles, SAS said Bucs starters have no business being in street clothes watching the game.

“The Tampa Bay Buccaneers, despite all of their troubles, have the second-ranked passing attack in the entire National Football League,” SAS began. “They’ve got the worst running attack.

“[If you are] Tom Brady and those boys, you need all the reps you can get.

“‘Get out on that damn field! You’ve been stinking up the joint most of the year anyway.

“‘Hell with that! You don’t deserve a damned day off. You don’t deserve a week off. You need as much reps as you possibly can.'”

Like Bowles, SAS noted the Bucs (Joe’s take, aside from beating Seattle), finally looked “halfway decent” against Carolina and now is not the time to blow that momentum. Now is not the time to let rust settle in.

Besides, SAS said, the Bucs need to be sharp so they can stomp out the Cowboys (if they play) next weekend.

I agree with SAS that the Bucs need to play against Atlanta.
WE are kind of on a little roll right now, and we want it to continue.

  2. RSJCheapSeats Says:

Brady always played the last game with the Pats – even when it did not matter. He probably plays just the first half but Brady always wanted the reps heading into the playoffs when he was in New England.

  3. LOL Says:

I would rather play most starters on offense. For at least half of the game. They don’t deserve to take the game off. They haven’t played a complete game all year. …. They have proven that they absolutely need all of the live reps that they can get

  4. Pryda sec 147 Says:

Start the game with a TD opening drive is what I wanna see

  5. NEfan Says:

SAS would be a good tackling dummy. If Godwin, Evan’s or any receiver or oline goes down season over. Rest the wounded and SAS’s mouth.

  6. alton green Says:

Just a little info. Do I beieve in jinx’s? YES. BUT not against Brady haha. He needs 390 yards to have 5000 yds AGAIN! Tom has had 400 yds 13 times in his career. How many times have you hear a commentator say something like “he’s only missed 1 FG all year” YOU GUESSED IT. MISSED hahahaa Give Succop a valium before the game

  7. Tampabaybucfan Says:

You simply can’t fear injury……it just doesn’t work……the Bucs need to win….3 in a row and go into the playoffs winning.

There is no chance that Brady sits…..ZERO……like he said, he never sat out a game except when he had his ACL problem……and, it won’t happen Sunday.

  8. rrsrq Says:

I think we will see a lot of working on the run game, don’t expect a whole lot passing this game, if Brady throws 15 passes, I would be surprised. The other thing is saying we have momentum, how may times have we heard that, what if we stink it up, what does that mean. To me, this is more about fine tuning the defense, because that’s who we are going to need in the playoffs

  9. Kentucky Buc Says:

I’ll say it again. You can go into the playoffs with a winning record or losing record. I respect the opinion of resting players, fear of injuries and all that stuff. Play the damn game in front of you. Sitting players doesn’t work. Who do you sit? This garbage I’m hearing of playing Trask with the starters(Pooter Report) is ridiculous. If Brady gets pulled you damn well better pull Evans, Godwin and Gage. Have you lost your damn minds. Worry about that shiz next year. If the Bucs were an 11-12 win team maybe , maybe I could see a set of downs but sheesh. Focus damnit !! Don’t be scared.

  10. Irishmist Says:

Agreed that the offense still needs work. That said, this is a completely meaningless game. You can work on things in practice. You are not going to reveal anything you are actually going to use in the playoffs, unless you are a complete and utter moron. Sigh, never mind.

  11. Goatfarmer Says:

It will look like genius when Wirfs, Smith and Mason get injured and Brady loses a leg.

It will also look like genius when the Bucs come out with their starters against Atlanta and play flaccid and lose, then do the same against the Cowboys.

It’s Todd. Whatever move he makes, it will be the wrong one. Like me and sports betting.

  12. PSL Bob Says:

They’d also like to finish with a winning season.

  13. NEfan Says:

Goat@ AMEN!!! What you all are forgetting is, in 2020 the team was HEALTHY!!! If Smith, Winfield, Jones, Davis, Dean, Lenny, Vea and Hicks are playing injured, rest them. This game means nothing!!!

  14. NEfan Says:

Harbaugh made a huge mistake a few years back. Baltimore was the #1 seed, he sat them week 17 and they had the bye week, 3 weeks off . Titans kicked their arse in the playoffs.

  15. Caleb Says:

Players with lingering injuries should be rested. It doesn’t matter whether you deserve it. You have a great opportunity in which you opponent won’t have a luxury to sit any players despite a way better record. This team has had all year to get a rhythm going and it has not happened due to the coaches. And they aren’t changing any coaches so don’t expect things to look much different.

  16. Pryda sec 147 Says:

He said 2nd in pass attack wtf

  17. Infomeplease Says:

Resting starters can work both ways! If you sit them they may start slow or lethargic. If you play them, they may be injured and not be able to play.
IMO, the players that are really beat up but still on the field should sit or have very limited snaps. The rest should play a 1/2 or 2/3 if they need more reps. Then the backups should get the rest of the game. Backups need game experience in case they are called on because of injuries.

  18. brooks Says:

Doesnt matter were one and done

  19. Kentucky Buc Says:

    8-9 or 9-8 ? Winners or losers ?

  20. SlyPirate Says:

Post-season Run is Over if …
    Any OL gets hurt
TB12, Evans, or Godwin get hurt
    Vea or Hicks get hurt

You’re in. Play the long game.

    Sit them.

  21. Kentucky Buc Says:

WWBBD ? Not a fan but the best coach of all time would not sit players. How did that work out ?

  22. Jack Clark Says:

I totally agree with Stephan A Smith and Todd Bowels. We need to play our starters because Tom Brady and our TE’s are still not on the same page when it comes to TE’s reading defenses coverages and adjusting their routes to be where Tom Brady expects them to be, also our kicker Ryan Succop needs to make a few field goals to get his confidence back, and our defensive backs need more practice so they will stop getting torched in one-on-one coverage.

TEAM no risk it no biscuit!

  23. Pewter Power Says:

The hell!! They have stunk all year what’s reps in week 17 gonna accomplish? What are reps in a meaningless game are gonna change that? SAS shut the hell up sometimes especially if you’ve never played the game

  24. MadMax Says:

Sit them after the first half…f off stephen…i cant stand that guy….i turn the channel as soon as he shows up.

  25. MadMax Says:

Lets see what we have in Trask

  26. sasquatch Says:

He’s correct. They haven’t proven squat. It’s a sh!tty team that needs the practice. Sitting is for losers. And momentum matters. Sitting starters is almost like rewarding these clowns for sucking ass all season.

So, here’s motivation — go out and put up 35 on the Falcons, and the second teamers will take most of the 2nd half reps.

  27. Buc4evr Says:

Bucs need all the work they can get. This is a terrible team with a super star QB playing in a really bad division. Hopefully Jensen can come back in some capacity in the playoffs and our TE’s can get their acts together. Atl is not a meaningless game, the Bucs need to open the offense up and try to score more points. This is the perfect game to do that and prove that offense can score in the first three quarters.

  28. Tracey Says:

I wonder what will be said sunday night after rom rookie looking to make a name for himself blows out tom brady’s knees and having evans pull a hamstring?????

  29. sasquatch Says:

^ You play scared, you lose.

  30. Kentucky Buc Says:

Sasquatch is right. Bunch of scared fans on here. Play the damn game.

  31. PassingThru Says:

All too often this offensive looked inept, making me wonder at how sloppy the practices were run. Of course the starters should play, at the bare minimum the entire first half.

  32. david Says:

Absolutely correct. Defense…. Maybe rest some to continue getting healthy.
The Offense shouldn’t even have Tuesday’s off.

  33. NEfan Says:

The guys screaming play them, play them forget about concussion protocols. You want to lose Winfield AGAIN???

  34. sasquatch Says:

Rest ’em or don’t rest ’em — they’re still going out in round 1. I’d rather finish the regular season 9-8.

  35. Ed Says:

They need the practice. That offense has to practice scoring touchdowns instead of relying on Succup. His lack of leg costs the Bucs at least 3 points a game because he can’t hit from beyond 50.

Most kickers I’m seeing on other teams easily are hitting 50-55 yard field goals and making them with room to spare. How can the Bucs not realize that they have to replace him for next season.

  36. unbelievable Says:

Completely agree. At least for the first 2 quarters.

Can’t play / coach scared (Bowles has done enough of that already this season).

  37. Tony Says:

START BLAINE GABBERT! He already saved some people recently maybe he can try & save his losing percentage some, too!

  38. FortMyersDave Says:

SAS hates the Cowboys. Look for him to be a Buc homer if the Bucs do get Dallas in the wildcard. If it is Philly look at Steven A bashing the Bucs as he is a Philly homer! Thus his takes may be entertaining but they usually do not hold water!

  39. Michael Says:

This team was built for the passing game to set up the running game . Bowles and Co. have done a good job with this team other than flipping that one aspect of the offense and it has cost them dearly . The bucs should have been throwing on first down a lot more this season . This team has a nearly unstoppable passing attack when defenses are off balance . They have run the ball on first down entirely to much and the results are obvious . If they come out throwing and get that cooking the run game will come . BTW the rest of the league better hope not with that defense .
