Time For Bruce Arians To Wear A Headset (Part II)

November 27th, 2022

Bucco Bruce Arians.

It’s time for egos to be swallowed at One Buc Palace, and time for Team Glazer and Jason Licht to make executive decisions.

Either you’re all-in to win, or you’re conning fans and cheating yourselves.

Todd Bowles is failing. He can still turn things around, but a 5-6 record with a boatload of talent and a soft schedule earns a D- grade from Joe.

Joe believes in the motto of one of Bowles’ mentors, Hall of Fame head coach Bill Parcells, “you are what your record says you are.” So the Bucs are a bad team despite Tom Brady at quarterback, a roster loaded with Pro Bowlers and coaches with Super Bowl rings.

The Bucs’ major problem is the overall offense and its conservative decision-making, things that were on point when Bucco Bruce Arians was in charge.

Joe pleaded for Arians to wear a headset during games after Tampa Bay’s Week 6 loss. His input should be welcomed and encouraged given the Bucs’ struggles, but instead, Arians is left to curse up a storm to whomever has the pleasure of sitting next to him.

Now, after a Week 12 humiliation today in Cleveland, the Bucs need Arians’ touch more than ever.

Will somebody step up and ask Arians to plug in and put his years of savvy and experience to good use? It’s not like he’s the architect of the offense or on the payroll. #sarcasm

Arians already has said publicly that he talks to playcaller Byron Leftwich regularly, and that he talks to Tom Brady a couple of hours per week and sits in some offensive meetings. Isn’t the natural next step the headset?

The NFL is a game of inches and a decision or two turns games. Joe would feel great about Arians flipping the “on” button on the headset say, once per half and telling Bowles and Leftwich, “You M-fers better run X play right here. It’s friggin’ there.”

Joe believes the only reasons Arians won’t put on a headset are fragile egos and sensitive optics. And that’s a damn shame.

Joe hopes the powers that be at One Buc Palace realize that winning is more important than hurt feelings.

Wishful thinking….would be nice to have him play calling… isn’t going to happen though…

  2. Rod Munch Says:

    Nothing will happen.

If it was going to happen, it would have happened already.

I’m not anti-Glazer, but they got bigger things going on right now, like the $7-billion they want for Manchester United.

  3. HC Grover Says:

Get him a super duper golf cart and hire him back for Head Coach. Anything but this coaching nightmare.

  4. Rod Munch Says:

If I had a $7-billion dollar deal I was working on, I don’t think the future of Leftwich would make my top 10000 list.

Also Arians is not going to come to undermine his hand picked future HC’s by showing them up. He’s going to say let them swim or sink on their own.

So the team is running itself right now, and Arians retired for a reason.

  5. Rod Munch Says:

Pull a Colts, and just fire your OC and HC, and bring in a shocking pick to run things.

    Go talk to Gruden.

I don’t even like Gruden all that much, but man would that change things in a hurry. Completely different energy and vibe, and just not having Leftwich around, suddenly the team looks competent, literally overnight. Obviously I’d take Arians first and second and third, but I do not think he’d ever come back and show up his hand picked guys.

If you want to go really outside the box, and do the former player thing, I’m going with Sapp. Man, want to see be excited again about seeing the Bucs, want them to be entertaining, want the team fired up, well, there you go. You know he’d just tell Brady ‘do your think baby’ and get out of his way, and you know Vita would actually be playing hard and not taking off every other series.

  6. Jim1949 Says:

You need 5 yards for a first down in overtime and throw a bomb???

  7. Architek Says:

Oh well – it is what it is

  8. Pewter Power Says:

If you can get Arians to take the headset, why would we need Bowles. He has co-coordinators one of them can take over. Knowing the Glazers they would be sad enough to hire leftwich to run the team next year

  9. Rod Munch Says:

Pewter Power – well next year the Bucs are going to be tanking for a future QB and clearing up the cap, and Bowles and Leftwich are proven losers, so they’ll get you that #1 pick, that’s why they’ll keep their jobs.

  10. ChiBuc Says:

BA will most likely go back into hiding. I’m sure he has had ample opportunity to nudge this sinking ship into better waters throughout this horrible season and he hides. BA only cares about his own legacy and when his hand picked mentees fail, he creates distance… enhancing his lore (we need BA back, sniff sniff) but when there’s success he became the face of the franchise for 2 weeks, interviewing everywhere. He saddled us with these loser coaches, was their mentor (he is Dr. Frankenstein), and has done NOTHING as players and fans beg for relief. BA is NOT the answer. In fact, he us the engineer of this $h!t show!

  11. Jim1949 Says:

And take Donovan Smith with the coaching staff also!

  12. Pewter Power Says:

    Rod Munch

Guess you have a point, they are trying really hard and failing to win with Brady. They could try hard next year but still end up with the first pick

  13. August 1976 Buc Says:

    SOS TO BA,

    SOS TO BA

NO WAY GRUDEN, HIS GRUMPY FACE GRATES PEOPLE QUICK. NO!!!!!

  14. SufferingSince76 Says:

Two beautiful years and now this. Well, the Super Bowl win was nice. Hope I’m still around when the next one comes.

  15. Bojim Says:

    It’s time!!

  16. Jeffs Dad Says:

Neither of his boys are head coaching material

  17. SickofLosing Says:

No way the Glazers allow him to basically coach. That would be admitting that Bowles isn’t good enough, so why not just fire him and name Arains the interim

  18. D-Rok Says:

I aint playing this game. All I know is, football-wise, is the Bucs only had to get 10 yards in regulation to ice the game with kneel-downs. That didn’t happen.

    WHY?

  19. Hodad Says:

If they sell Man U paying Bowles, and company to go away won’t hurt as bad.

  20. FrontFour Says:

Joe, please stop with the hype about all this talent. This team is a long way away from the talent on the roster of the past two seasons. It all starts up front and we suck on both sides of the ball. And please someone call out Brady. Other than a couple drives an a couple games he’s looked horrible. This is not a good team. Stop with the hype.

  21. Destinjohnny Says:

It’s time for Jason Licht to draft better offensive lineman

  22. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

Rod, put down that crack pipe. Gruden ain’t the answer. Totally agree we need to fire Bowels and his staff, including Leftover Sandwich, but no one is really going to want to come here. Certainly not Sean Payton.

  23. Buc Ryan Says:

I have been a Bucs fan since the early 80’s and never complained about coaching before. However, I cannot hold my tongue any longer. If we had decent play calling/ coaching on the offensive side of the ball, we would have at least 3 more wins. How did we not call a timeout after that first wasted OT play? I would be pissed if Leftwich was the coach of my son’s pee wee football team, he has no business being the OC of what could/should be a high scoring offense. It is very depressing to have a more talented team most weeks and continue to lose to inferior talent. Love the Bucs, very disappointed in the coaching!

  24. Anonymous Says:

Yes get the best 2 oline men you can in the draft.
    Also:
How can we pry Sean Payton loose from the Saints (who still own his rights) to coach here?

  25. David Says:

I gave him a longer chance than anyone else, but I am officially over BL. He should be FIRED right now.
He took a team that has been averaging over 30+ points a game the last couple years and has them averaging 18.
He has an awesome receiving corp, the goat at QB, yet tries and tries and tries to force this team to be a power running team.
He has done this with an entirely new interior on the offensive line.
It has worked exactly 2 games out of 11.

I’ve been saying it before the season began- THEY ARE A PASSING TEAM, that needs to pass first!!!
That opens up the run, which then opens up the play action.

He is literally trying to force them to be something they are not.
This is not just on BL. Todd Bowles, other coaches and BA all need to intervene at this point.

When the Bucs were bad it was easier than this because they have the talent. This is frustrating as hell.

  26. Rod Munch Says:

Joe, can you please do a favor and just look at the IP addresses of the anti-Brady posters? I’m not saying ban accounts or out them, I just want to know if there are really more than 2 anti-Brady morons out there, or if it’s just the Gainesville IP address posting again and again under different accounts.

  27. David Says:

Now, because BL and Bowles refuse to pass the dammmmn ball until absolutely necessary, this game went into OT and they lost Tristan Wirfs.
I am beyond frustrated. I’m about to just watch the Lightning and completely give up on this season.

  28. WillieG Says:

Bruce Arians making suggestions via the headset is a bad idea. Bruce Arians being offensive coordinator is a good idea. I think he understands that you take your shot on 2nd and short, so if you fail, you’re in a manageable 3rd down situation, in which you do enough to make damn sure you get the first down. As in, everyone running a route is beyond the first down line not 5 yards short. We NEVER get YAC on 3rd and short.

I think Bruce Arians is also smart enough to use things that worked and not use things that don’t. No huddle offense moved the ball but how much was it used?

Speaking of Bruce Arians being smart, I bet he calls timeouts when they’re actually needed and doesn’t save them like a deranged squirrel saving rotten nuts.

Bruce Arians making suggestions via the headset is a bad idea. Bruce Arians as offensive coordinator is a good idea. Bruce Arians as head coach is an even better idea.

Oh well, maybe we will get a damn good coach to go along with our high draft pick. Sean Peyton?

    Butthole Toilet bowl

  31. LakelandSteve Says:

Ain’t going to happen. That would be the Glazers admitting they made a mistake by letting Bowles be head coach. Arians must have been one hell of a coach because his top two assistants (Bowles and Leftwhich) suck.

  32. D-Rome Says:

Totally agree we need to fire Bowels and his staff, including Leftover Sandwich, but no one is really going to want to come here. Certainly not Sean Payton.

I agree with this. The team has no winning future with Bowles as head coach but if the Glazers keep firing coaches every 2-3 years then no one with a solid NFL resume will want to come here.

  33. Rod Munch Says:

Alvin Scissors Harper – I don’t even like Gruden, I’m just saying he’d change up the energy and pace of things, and I think just doing that alone, and mainly firing Leftwich, would turn this team into a SB contender. It’s not a reflection of Gruden, it’s just the team needs a jolt, and if Gruden had zero say in personnel, he could come in and just change the feel of the team entirely.

Obviously Arians could do it better, but I think I said that.

In any case it’s all just talk since nothing is going to happen, and the sink is going to slowly sink.

All we can really hope for is that the Bucs can use this terrible division to its benefit and make the playoffs, then Brady can overcome these loser coaches.

  34. PassingThru Says:

I still suspect that Arians handpicked Bowles to keep his own legacy intact. Bowles is not headcoaching material.

  35. garro Says:

    Please Please Please Mr. Arians!
I have been hesitant to jump on the coaching change band wagon.
But now I’m done with these clowns. When the better team loses in the way we did in Cleveland. Its time.

    What a !@#$ ing joke.!

  36. garro Says:

“Joe believes the only reasons Arians won’t put on a headset are fragile egos and sensitive optics. And that’s a damn shame.”

    You are correct sir.
We gotta keep two unqualified coaches to appease all the politically correct asshats out here in lalaland!

  37. Joe Morello Says:

Bad idea Joe to bring back BA. Bad idea because he will lobby to keep the sad two loosers Boles and Leftwich. Nothing will change with BA at the wheel. What the hell is he doing now as a consultant? What a joke. The Glaser family is a joke too. Worst owners in NFL. Idiots all!

  38. Eric b Says:

PLEASE GET BA BACK OR GRUDEN, WE NEED A CHANGE FAST!!! OR LET BRADY CALL THE DAMN PLAYS. EVERY 2 MIN DRILL BRADY CRUSHES IT!!! WE GET DOWN IN A HURRY EVERYTIME LFGO BA COME.BACK!!!

  39. Randy Bowers Says:

Arians was proud of all his diversity he brought in,so why do you think he knows right from wrong. He supports the current coaching staff.

  40. Cliff Says:

Head office at 1 Bucs place was very stupid to have Bruce A walk away from head coach… I don’t get it – a team that was suppose to be all in…stupid decision ! ! Put Bruce back in ad H C TODAY ! ! And let Brady call the offensive plays ! Nothing worse then a talented team with piss poor coaching !

  41. Brucey Says:

Tommy boy will never let it happen. He wants nothing yo do with BA being back on that sideline. It’s gotta be all about him.
