Galling Sycophant Chatter On Broadcast

November 27th, 2022

Friends in broadcast booth.

For the most part, Joe enjoyed the FOX presentation today of the Bucs-Browns game. It was the game that made Joe want to jump through a window, not the broadcast.

But Joe couldn’t believe what he was hearing from Kenny Albert and Jonathan Vilma at one point. Man, these guys were slurping Bucs coach Todd Bowles so badly.

Joe remembers the gutless, losing decision by Bowles. The Bucs led 17-10. Fourth-and-2 from the Browns-37. 7:03 left. Time for the knockout punch to win the game.

Instead, Bowles chose to punt. Unreal! Playing it safe and letting a bad team hang around can come back to bite you. And guess, what? Bowles and the Bucs got chomped by a Great White off Lake Erie (yes, Joe knows sharks cannot survive in freshwater — work with Joe here, huh?).

After Bowles chose to punt, Albert and Vilma, otherwise excellent broadcasters, went on and on with deep, loving admiration about how Bowles trusts his defense so there was no need to try for a first down and maybe a touchdown to seal a win.

Remember: Todd Bowles trusts his defense.

What a bunch of hogwash!!!

If Bowles really did trust his defense to stop the Browns, then he would have gone for it.

If anything, not trying to win the game told Joe that Bowles did not trust his defense to get a stop and hoped Cleveland, needing to march 95 yards to tie the game, would run out of time.

Can you say, “Backfire?”

Yes, the defense to that point was playing very well, which for Joe underscored how and why the Bucs should have gone for the first down.

But the offense was stuck in a rut (gee, where have you read that before?) and way, way too much was being asked of the defense to bail out the three-and-out Bucs offense. They had to be gassed.

As it turned out they were.

But of course, the coaches, ever vigilant, never noticed this on the sidelines, never trusted that the Tom Brady-led offense against a garbage run defense could get a first down, never imagined the Browns could mount a game-tying score.

Coaching malpractice, indeed.

YES, Todd Bowels is an embarrassment to HC everywhere!….
    FIRED!

SO IF they MAKE THE PLAYOFFS, SO WHAT. JUST TO GET CURB STOMPED THEN TOO??

THIS COACHING STAFF LOST THE LEADER BA AND IT IS ALL SHE WROTE BABY

  3. AmauryGuzman Says:

This coaching staff is not getting fired which means the season is down the drain.

  4. Pewter Power Says:

If Bowles really did trust his defense to stop the Browns, then he would have gone for it.

Perfect description of the year. And how could you throw to brate but not otten who’s had a better season

  5. GABucsFan Says:

Well said Joe. Taking the ball out of your best player’s hands at a critical time in the game is beyond malpractice it is high school or pop warner. That is where Bowles belongs. He is not smart enough to be a head coach in the NFL.

  6. Rod Munch Says:

If Bowles really did trust his defense to stop the Browns, then he would have gone for it.

    ——–

YES! I’ve been saying that for years! If you want to say punt the ball and trust your defense, well TRUST your defense to make a play if you don’t get the first down! In fact if you TRUST your defense, you DO go for it since you trust them to get the ball back.

I don’t mind Albert calling games, but Vilma is a d-bag, everyone is the greatest, everything is great, that’s always the greatest whatever. Complete bore, turned off the audio after about the 1st quarter and just had RedZone audio playing instead.

  7. T REX Says:

    Same Bowels as in NYJ

He should never ever get another HC job…ever.

    He is gutless and clueless

  8. Bring back the lawn chairs Says:

Gross clock mismanagement. Twice. Game breakers.

  9. ClwJB Says:

Gutless, soft, scared, lost the team today with his cowardly handling of a seven point lead

This isn’t 1977, we should be trying to score 30+ every week

He is happy to grind out games and it shows he is not very good at it

Clock mismanagement, no feel for the offense in game – a total one side coach and ham sandwich is like a pre school teachers assistant playing against college professors

Just outclassed in coaching across the board by 3 badly losing teams – isn’t that a strikeout?

  10. Doc Says:

Call out the players, by name who screw this game up, you call out the coaches.

  11. SB~LV Says:

Vilma sounded like he was on speed, the guy just would not shut up!

  12. Rod Munch Says:

    ClwJB Says:

No, no, no. Listen to the commenters on this site, they think you win everything by running the ball and then playing defense. So 17-points should be plenty for those losers, yet they complain anyways.

  13. Bojim Says:

Didn’t he call a play last year against the Rams that screwed us??

  14. BucsBro Says:

Just saw Brady’s press conference. He was asked about the non-timeout and he dodged it. Pretty clear IMO that he wasn’t happy about it not being called.

Thank goodness the slimy Saints are down 10-0 to San Francisco. Perhaps this won’t be a totally wasted day if the Falcons and Saints lose.

The coaching has to improve now. No fake praise can hide the mistakes coming from the sidelines.

The offense is a mess. Fix it and we have a chance. Don’t fix it and the best case is one-and-out in the postseason.

  15. AmauryGuzman Says:

BucsBro as long as this coaching staff is here they won’t go anywhere. Sign be shocked if they missed out on the playoffs.

  16. Rod Munch Says:

Hey Joe, when do we start getting the draft preview articles?

  17. Irishmist Says:

I think if Winston is released by the Saints next year we should pick him up. Winston never does what his OC tells him to. If we keep the same group of coaches next year, that would be our only chance of winning.

  18. BucsBro Says:

    @AmauryGuzman

I know. I know. I don’t care why the coaching staff was hired, or whose “guys” they are, but they’re not getting it done.

It’s not all their fault, but when you see the mistakes like the timid punt from the Browns 37 or the no-timeout call, that’s on the coaching.

There’s been some improvement, IMO, but it’s not enough.

Not being able to put this game away up 17-10 was ridiculous.

  19. Pewter Power Says:

Apparently Bowles doesn’t realize this is probably his last shot at head coach, everyone is going young and offensive coaches

  20. AmauryGuzman Says:

Bowles and leftwich what a combination.

  21. Aaron Says:

Brady was off today…IMO we didn’t adjust to the refs and how they were calling side line routes…but I’m losing with the ball in TB hands….Our coaches played not to lose….I like our D I don’t love them…no way I’m depending on them to win over Brad…early in the game Brady had plenty of time to throw….design plays with Evans and Godwin crossing with one of them going deep middle…give Brady an outlet receiver to drop the ball off too…I’d much rather give Brady a chance to take a peak at getting the ball down field…if it’s not there drop it off for 3yrds…still better than our run game

  22. Elita Vita Says:

Never mind the draft. The question should be which coaches are available next year?

  23. Merryplankster777 Says:

Not knowing how to use timeouts at end of game is another sign of a poor coach, that is Very annoying.

Also, is Evans OK? He does not look like self this year. ‘
Nice to see Godwin bouncing back this year,

  24. Gman Says:

Vilma sucks as a broadcaster. Bowles sucks as a coach.

    ——–

Once Brady leaves, and with the team in cap hell, they’re going to be one of, if not the, worst team in football? Why would you care about a new coach when whoever comes in might only win 1 or 2 games? No, you leave the two current losers in place and go for the #1 overall pick while cleaning up the cap.

  27. Jeebs the Honey Bear Says:

Bowles is a great DC. Terrible HC. Boron shouldn’t be allowed near a field unless it’s in the Austrian countryside.

  28. Nprbuc Says:

What can be said about this debacle that hasn’t been said? Talk about ruining a man’s fantasy of seeing a kick a&& game from our Bucs today. The stars were aligned with two wins in a row and two weeks to prepare for the Browns! Nearly everyone was healthy and rested. How could you not be pumped? Leave it to Boron and the Phone Booth to suck the life out our fans and boy did they succeed! No sense even rehashing everything already said. Biggest peeve for me on the offense side of the ball was watching Boron scheme Baby Gronk totally out of the game with ZERO targets to the hot rookie! Why in the world would you do that? In the last few games Otten has proved his worth and capability. May as well as have him sit on the bench and just go with an extra lineman. What a disgrace. Can only imagine how that kid felt after all he has been putting on film to have his Coach to decide he wasn’t worthy of a look.Disgraceful coaching all around. I’m an sick for the guys who have to play for these imbeciles.

  29. ChiBuc Says:

Sychophants should not throw stones… BL sux, Todd is a waste of air, but if any other QB in the league had the same results as Brady, each and every one of you would be screaming for his head (see JW and his BA stat rich yr [ints be damned]). Instead, we hear over and over how Tommy is not accountable…that 4th qt overthrow to Evans could have won the game too, but hey, it’s Tommy so we’ll over look that.

  30. August 1976 Buc Says:

How many years will it take for a new cycle of Coaches and talent before this team is good again????

JUST HOPE IT IS NOT ANOTHER 5-10 YEARS

THE MOMENT ALI MARPET RETIRED, THIS SORRY EXPERIMENT OF 2022 BUC FOOTBALL STARTED.

SO MAYBE THEY ARE GOOD AGAIN IN 5 YEARS, NO HOPE FOR SURE ANYTIME SOON

  31. D-Rok Says:

Over the last 40 years of watching NFL football, rarely have I been upset/pissed off how a game was played or called. This is one of those games. It was an important game and pivotal for the season.

So many blunders. So many mistakes. It really was not a competitive game, which speaks volumes to the dedication of the fan base.

I mean, as fans, how many times during the game you had confidence/faith/assurance/hope the Bucs would win this game? I had some optimism at about the point the Bucs could get a first down and win the game via knee-downs. It didn’t happen.

I have faith in this team, but dang – this performance leaves me wanting to drink.

    More.

  32. Trask To The Future Says:

NO TALK ABOUT CARLTON “I FELL DOWN” DAVIS

  33. Bring back the lawn chairs Says:

Gross clock mismanagement at the end of games determines who loses.

  34. HC Grover Says:

I would of taken the tie. I knew Bowles would blow it. This division is wide open for any team left. Winning the NFC South this year will not be a great honor. It will be a joke. 7-10 might do it.

  35. Gregory G Says:

How about not so Byron Wrongwich! A major Joke!!

  36. Alanbucsfan Says:

Who gave up a TD pass on 4th and 10 from the 12 yard line to tie the game with 30 something seconds left?
How many 3 and outs did the Bucs have in the 2nd half? Mostly because of predictable play calling.
Which team stayed with the run and won the game with the run?
Which team stopped the run in the 2nd half?
One decision didn’t lose the game.

  37. faspro Says:

So, the yucs gotta rely on other teams’ losses to stay on top…PATHETIC.

  38. FrontFour Says:

Joe, please stop with the hype about all this talent. This team is a long way away from the talent on the roster of the past two seasons. It all starts up front and we suck on both sides of the ball. And please someone call out Brady. Other than a couple drives an a couple games he’s looked horrible. This is not a good team. Stop with the hype.

  39. David Says:

    Here’s something that I haven’t seen talked about yet…

There’s a lot of smoke out there about Brady playing another year.
Even with Ryan Nelson back at center and the line being better and healthy… Bowles and BL without BA may just have run him out of town by trying to be a running team instead of passing the f**%ing ball in a f%*%ing passing league.

  40. David Says:

Come on Joe, I didn’t spell it out and it is extremely frustrating. Need to vent

  41. alton d green Says:

Dufus Bowles stood there and watched 13 seconds click off the clock with 2 timeouts left. That was enough time to get into FG range. Now thanks to Bowles we have to watch how badly other teams are playing so we will know how less dumb we have to play and hope Bowles doesn’t “F” that up too

  42. HomerSimpsonRocks Says:

They’re done. No chance with these idiots in charge.

  43. alton d green Says:

  44. firethecannons Says:

the offense is the problem and it is the fault of leftwich and Bowles who has not taken action against him TB12 is in his last year and needs to take over play calling we are done, no more playoff talk, Wirfs is out for the season and we were very bad on offense when he was playing a full power

  46. Thunder Says:

of COURSE the announcers were trying to prop up Bowles!! This is America 2022, we are no longer a meritocracy, we are now basing hiring on skin color, even in the NFL. What Bowles did today should cost him his job, period. But there is ZERO chance that happens now or at the end of the season. He won’t be fired even if the fail to win this pathetic division. Why, because of affirmative action, plain and simple. A 12 yr old knows you go for it on 4th and TWO at Brown’s 37 when up by 7 with 7 minutes left! A 10 yr old knows you call time out with a minute to go before the 4th down play at end of regulation! Same 10 yr old calls time out after first play of our last drive in regulation! These are imbecilic calls Bowles made which led to throwing away a win and losing Wirfs! Anyone blaming this embarrassment on Brady is a loon. There is ZERO chance he plays in Tampa next yr. He will either be broadcasting or playing in SF

  47. David Says:

A Take that has not been discussed….

BL, Bowles, without BA, may have just run Brady out of town today ….. if he was thinking about playing next year.
It’s a passing league and this team WAS putting up over 30 points a game. Instead, for some unknown reason, they’re trying to be a power running team from the 1970s and it hasn’t worked in 9/11 games and now they average barely 18 points a game

So basically, if I was Brady and wanted to play 1 more year, I’m not staying here

  48. August 1976 Buc Says:

FEELING LIKE IT IS 1985-92 AGAIN JOE, OR 2014-15

    ITS LIKE LEEMAN BENNETT OR

    RAY PERKINS

    RICHARD WILLIAMSON

OR COACH MY SCHEME LOVIE SMITH IS COACHING THIS SH!T SHOW

    THATS HOW BAD IT IS

  49. David Says:

    August….
They have some lineman, receivers, running back, TE, D line, DBs… It shouldn’t take that long.

They basically need to draft O & D lineman, a WR, and a LB in the first four rounds this coming year and they will be fine… As long as they have a quarterback and realize it’s a passing league and stop this nonsense of trying to be a power running team

  50. Trask To The Future Says:

What’s with all the angry old white guys ranting about racial stuff today?

  51. Thunder Says:

Trask to the Future, you are obviously a virtue signaling snowflake. I guess the truth hurts you

  52. August 1976 Buc Says:

David… I believe it will be several years before they actually are good, and that means a different coaching staff.
And that means after Brady, so it will be at least several years, a new cycle before they are ever a consistent winner again. IMO

For me it is like this team is stuck back in the 1980’s with Leeman Bennett

Same feeling of no real hope they can actually be consistently good.

or maybe 2014-15 with Lovie Smith

  53. T REX Says:

@ thunder – don’t you have a KKK meeting to attend?

Joes, can you get these clowns off of here.

This is getting out of hand every week.

It is a very bad look.

  54. Ed Says:

Such a waste of a season with Bowles and Leftwich trying to make a passing team into a running team. Definitely a terrible organization. Arians cursed this team with forcing them into headcoaching roles. Bowles is a better coordinator than coach and Leftwich is a bad coach period.

  55. Thunder Says:

Haha, TRex, you are a clown, smh. You are also weak, crying for the moderator. How old are you? Hilarious

  56. Thunder Says:

    Correct Rod!

  57. August 1976 Buc Says:

People can only be bullied if they allow it. And being offended is a choice.

Some honesty is needed. If I am offended by what someone said, then it is my choice if I am letting them control me with offense, simple. I chose not to be offended.

No time to blame others for something that I could chose not to do, which is be offended and hurt. I chose not to be hurt.

Offense and hurt is a choice. I chose not to be offended or hurt.

Rod could say anything to me he wants. What I do with my thoughts has nothing to do with what Rod or anyone else does. Its what I do that matters, I chose how I respond.

I chose to laugh, lolololol If more people were honest they would have much better days

I do not think Rod is a billy, I think he is a person with and opinion. Just like you and me.

  58. mark2001 Says:

Bowles must go. He might know what he is doing as a D coordinator. At least he did two years ago. But as a HC…he’s clueless.

  59. Rod Munch Says:

It all goes back to sticks and stones.

Instead these cupcakes want to go down the ‘words hurt’ route, which is what mentally ill lightweights believe.

    Cancer hurts, words do not.

If you have a choice in the matter, you’re not a victim, just an spineless idiot.

  60. Manny Says:

We know bowles and leftwich are terrible. I just want a an article about wirfs and his status. I like to hear everyones thoughts on how bad they think his injury is and if he will be back next week. We have seen how the oline plays without him and it isnt good at all. Last year we just collapsed when he went down. So if we have any chance of making the playoffs it hangs on his health. Thats whats important now. The glazers and licht will never fire bowles and leftwich anytime soon. Its like they are afraid or they feel like they owe they somethin. You got one of the best coaches around on your staff and the best head coach without a job who wants nothing more then to work with tom in sean payton. This is why some teams always win and some get leftovers, because they always do what needs to be done to get the job done.

  61. D-Rok Says:

    OK, enough.

What the heck is wrong, people? Besides our team, who are playing crappy football? None of this team’s problems have anything to do with race, color, or creed. They are playing crappy, below-average football, from waterboys to players to coaches. Our record says we are crappy. And that record has NOTHING to do with race or ethnicity. Shut the heck up with all that crap, please! I don’t wanna hear it.

What I wanna hear is analysis and opinion as to WHY the Bucs are playing so crappy, and how to fix it. None of which should ever include quotas or skin color or gender.

Judge the product on the field by their actions or lack of actions, not the gender or race, please! Please call out a man or woman for their performance, or lack of it.

Now, can we get back to being fans of the Bucs football product????

We can be better here, and so can the Bucs on the field.

  62. D-Rok Says:

PS: Sorry, waterboys and watergirls. I’m sure you hydrated the team properly and excessively to all who needed/wanted it.

    My bad.

  63. BucU Says:

Now can we get back to being fans of the Bucs football product?
That was a joke I assume.

  64. beano Says:

“Man, these guys were slurping Bucs coach Todd Bowles so badly.”

It’s all part of the endless NFL and sports media hyping of minorities for head coach and quarterback.
