Getting The Worst Out Of Tom Brady

November 27th, 2022

“Todd doesn’t like that, Tom.”

Barring the Bucs running the table and the offense exploding to close the regular season, Tom Brady will lose seven games in a season for the first time since 2002, and he’ll have his lowest touchdown total since his first season as a starter in 2001.

It’s simply unthinkable to see how far the Bucs have sunk this season. Losing to the 3-7 Browns coming off a bye week … c’mon!

And don’t tell Joe the Bucs were looking past Cleveland. This is the same Bucs team humiliated by impotent Steelers and Panthers teams.

But what really troubles Joe is how Tom Brady is being wasted.

The Goat is not having his best season, but he’s still a top shelf quarterback. Todd Bowles took the ball out of Brady’s hands in the fourth quarter today at the Browns’ 37 yard line for no good reason. Julio Jones and Mike Evans were on the field, two future Hall of Famers, alongside stud and hot-hand receiver Chris Godwin. That’s about $60 million in talent ripped off the field in favor of a talented but streaky rookie punter.

Brady likes throwing to tight ends and had been building chemistry in recent games with rookie tight end Cade Otton, who leads all rookie tight ends in receptions. Today, the Bucs didn’t get Otton a target.

Scotty Miller had been reviving his game recently, and playcaller Byron Leftwich had nothing for him, either.

And where are the draw plays and running back screens?

Wasting Tom Brady isn’t going to look good on Bowles’ resumé.

Bowles and Leftwich can’t be shown the door FAST ENOUGH!

  2. firethecannons Says:

Honestly Brady was missing the mark over and over but the problem is not Brady, it is Byron leftwich and his cal are the problem, what the fck did he not at least try the hurry up offense

  3. HC Grover Says:

Simple…Fire him or forget this season. Carolina can still win the division. This good team is unable to overcome the horrific coaching staff. it was so easy to see the coaching failure in this game.

  4. Rod Munch Says:

Otton has been great. So the Bucs put in an old, washed up, slow, garbage Brate instead, who doesn’t do anything.

Also did I see Tyler Johnson out there on a critical 3rd down, where he can’t make a catch?

    Another great call by Leftwich.

    Give him a 10-year deal.

  5. firethecannons Says:

agree with Tye–next year this whole team needs a turnover, new QB (Brady not coming back) new coaching staff–this the worst playcalling in the nfl

  6. Richard Dickson Says:

Of course Brady probably would have tried to force it 30 yards downfield to Evans on 4th and 2….

  7. Ben the GA Buc Says:

Teams’ play resembles their head coach. Can we please get Arians back?

  8. Sean Says:

Welp, unless Sean Payton replaces the current staff, Brady will be a 49er next year. Jimmy G’s leaving. Trey Lance was a mistake. Brady’s parents live in the area. It was his childhood team. They’re one QB away. Excellent coaching. It almost makes too much sense.

  9. JimmyfromNY Says:

It took a special combination of incompetence to really lose this game today. The lack of discipline and the fact that your head coach still doesn’t understand in the last 30 seconds of the game that he blew. The timeout situation is enough to get him fired. Sitting up there, listening to him answer questions shows what a complete, moron he has.

  10. Rod Munch Says:

If the Glazers, who have hired more black head coaches than any other team, are afraid of being called raycists for firing Leftwich, instead just promote him to assistant head coach and as part of his new duties, someone else will call the plays. Problem fixed Glazers. Now do it.

  11. Don’t listen to what he Says:

    Buck Fyron

  12. BigMacAttack Says:

He sucked today. Too many missed throws at crucial times. Leftwich is an idiot. I’m being nice here.

  13. Aceofaerospace Says:

I’d tell Arians to finish this season as head coach or I’m firing Bowles and BlairWitch today.

  14. Mike Johnson Says:

Up next on the turntable, Fire the coaches by the Bucs Bo bird fans..LMAO.

  15. adam from ny Says:

  16. George Says:

Terrible time management at the end of regulation

  17. Goatfarmer Says:

Fire the maroon. Glazers need to force the change. Tonight.

  18. BigMacAttack Says:

I’d take Aaron Rodgers right now over TB12. Brady is either hurt or lost it or both. Aaron Rodgers next year with a healthy o line could get us back on top. Just sayin

  19. I want out Says:

Walking into the street to knowingly get hit by a city bus would be more enjoyable than watching one more down of football from these guys.

  20. orlbucfan Says:

Getting the worse out of a fossil? He had receivers open throughout the game. He can’t hit a bull in theazz with a banjo. He missed Godwin, put ME13 into some really bad catching positions. How about Otton and the RBs? This fossil had plenty of time to throw, Thanks to his mental lapses, Wirfs is out. Get rid of Gabbert, let Trask practice with the first team offense, and mebbe the season will be saved. I doubt it.

  21. Tampabuscsbro Says:

I can’t wait for Arians to come out and say the issue is Brady playing poorly.

  22. BigMacAttack Says:

Too many times today when we needed 3-4 yards we went for 20 and that was stupid. Should have played the odds and played to win.

  23. PSL Bob Says:

Except for that jet sweep with Julio Jones early in the game, the Buc’s offensive game plan was about as predictable as getting a speeding ticket doing 95 in a school zone. You watch other teams play and you say, man that was a cool play. Words never uttered at a Bucs game.

  24. Tucker Says:

That’s how they play when they need 10 they go for
3 or 4 yards and when they need 3 or 4 yards they try and get 20 lol what a joke

  25. JimmyfromNY Says:

I love the Brady trolls to come out after a loss. Nothing changes the fact that he’s 7 Super Bowls and cause you numerous delicious tears. Love it.

  26. Dreday Says:

I’m drunk and fired up. I’m commenting on everything. Todd Bowles needs to make a decision to keep his job. He’s letting this man make him look like a horrible coach.

  27. BucsBro Says:

Just watched Bowles’ post game press conference.

He said he didn’t consider taking the time out at the end of regulation.

Absolute coaching malfeasance. You have Brady and you don’t take that timeout after White doesn’t get out of bounds.

You take that timeout, Brady hits one more pass after the strike to Julio and we hit a field goal and it’s over.

There’s plenty of blame to go around, but the coaching is just not getting it done at all. And it’s really hurting the team, especially on offense.

  28. Goatfarmer Says:

You can’t gift an inferior opponent a game like that. Joes, I’m with you on all your takes. Glazers and Licht need to have a meeting tomorrow morning and shock the team with major coaching change. It’s so ridiculous, a trained chicken could coach better.

  29. Rod Munch Says:

PSL Bob – Yep, I was even watching the Browns today, who have as boring and as predictable of an offense as you can have, which is run focuses, and I thought they were dramatically more creative than the Bucs, and played to their strengths. They have way less talent at QB and WR than the Bucs, yet they still attacked downfield and threw enough to keep the Bucs defense off balance at times. I do not think highly of the Browns offense at all, but it was still in a different class than the Bucs, 1st down run up the middle, 2nd down screen, 3rd down short pass, 4th down punt offense.

Just watched Bowles’ post game press conference.

He said he didn’t consider taking the time out at the end of regulation.

    ———-

    WOW, really?

Maybe he literally is trying to get fired? Like maybe he was happy being the DC, then Arians retires and puts Bowles on the spot to take the HC job and he didn’t really want it, but it was trusts upon him. Now he’s in the season and is like, screw this, I got a 5-year deal, just fire me and I’ll go on vacation for the next 4 1/2 seasons.

    That’s unbelievable.

  32. EricTheViking Says:

Race based hiring got us here.

  33. LastDance Says:

I think ORALbuc is just upset that he has an unused fossil in his pants. A lot of whining from a grown man otherwise

  34. BucsBro Says:

Rob — yep, he said it. Basically said there wasn’t enough time to do anything so it didn’t matter. Of course, that was before the long pass to Julio.

You can’t win with incompetence like this. Brady has to be fuming over that. I mean, this is what he does. He wins games on quick drives with little time left.

    Really, really bad mistake.

I’m not sure when the video will be up (I saw it live) of the press conference, but it’ll be there for all to see. Credit to the reporters for asking about it. It was such an obvious time management mistake. I was screaming at my TV when it happened.

  35. ClwJB Says:

It would be funny if it wasn’t so sad – what an idiot. That TO Dave’s the extra 10-12 seconds needed to win

    Something Bowles knows nothing about

He is a loser as a HC – period!

  36. Dreday Says:

Fire the coaches , trade fournette for draft picks, trade russel gage for picks, Let Brady go play wherever he wants because it’s clearly not the Bucs. Let us be excited about a young prospect like every other team with a young qb instead of being disappointed about the GOAT missing throws and looking like he just lost his best friend. It’s time to move onto a new chapter.

  37. Pewter Power Says:

Race based hiring got us here.

BA wanting his DC to replace him, how the hell is that a race based hire? What’s wrong with you.

  38. Arn platz Says:

All we needed was a first down and run out the clock. I’m just stunned

  39. LastDance Says:

He looks like he misses his best friend because he does. WINNING is his best friend and these losera$$ coaches have run his friend off.

  40. steele Says:

Don’t dump everything on Brady until you watch the film again. Were the WRs open? Not always. Was there pressure from Garrett etc. that the OL failed to keep out? Yes.

Was the playcalling boring and predictable? Hell yes.

This offense is not geared to play to a 45 yr old Brady’s strengths, nor protect his 45 yr old weaknesses. That takes vision, foresight, and the kind of commitment that Brady did not and will not get from this regime. Put anyone back there—Rodgers, Montana, Mahomes, Elway—it doesn’t matter. It’s not a creative offense that wins.

This is not how Brady wants to end his career, nor was it worth dumping his marriage for. It’s going to piss him off if he can’t at least end on a high note, as he would have if he had stayed retired after almost singlehandedly beating the Rams in the playoffs.

I still seriously doubt he’s going to SF, although that would be an easy assignment. They are still all-in on their investment in Trey Lance. Brady and Shanahan don’t get along. I would hate to think there would be any back-channel talks such as:

“Hey Kyle. I know we pissed each other off, but you know I can win you a SB dumping short passes to Deebo and Kittle, and letting your defense carry 17 games. Call me when Jimmy fails you again. You know it will happen.”

  41. Rod Munch Says:

Why do people take the Brady haters seriously and waste time debating them? They’re clearly low-IQ trolls, and if you get sucked in by a low-IQ troll, that doesn’t speak well of you. Just insult them and move along, there’s no reason to debate them as they’re not real.

  42. Bojim Says:

I was so busy and watched the game cast on espn a few times. Once they were leading. Second they were tied and third they lost!!! BA left a SB team to Bowles and between him and BL we can only average 18 points. No more passes. Fire them all.

  43. Defense Rules Says:

All I’m reading is ‘Fire the coaches’ and ‘Poor Tom Brady’. Guess what; Tom Brady is just as responsible for these losses and the coaches or any of the players.

For instance, Bucs punted NINE times today. Yup, NINE times. Which means that we FAILED on 3rd down those NINE times. Guess how many times we ran it on 3rd down trying to get the 1st down? ONCE. The other EIGHT times Brady went back to attempt a pass.

O 2 pass attempts ended in sacks on 3rd down.
    O 3 passes were incomplete.
O 3 passes were complete but yardage was insufficient for a 1st down.

Seems kinda sad that in those NINE 3rd down opportunities to keep drives alive we ended up attempting to pass EIGHT times. Several of those were 3rd-and-short that we had so little confidence in our OLine & running game that we put it on Brady instead. He’s not making the critical big plays as often as in the past either. Something’s bad wrong and it extends far beyond just the coaching.

  44. NEfan Says:

Richard DiCKinson, Oralbuc and BigMac blame Brady because Evan’s is supposed to beat out a 3rd string FB and not QUIT on pass routes. I get why they ran that play a few times but Evan’s didn’t do his job, neither did Brate slow as crap. Do you realize how easy it is to defend the Bucs? Load the box with 8 on first down maybe toss in a run blitz, rush 4 and drop 7 with two deep safeties on 2nd & 3rd. That’s why you see the sideline bubble screens, they’re hoping a defender misses a tackle. Have you seen a different D all season? I love when the Pokémon fans have an opinion.

  45. WCFlo Says:

Offensive play calling was predictable & a joke…

  46. NEfan Says:

DR, the majority of those plays were 3rd & long and most were 2nd & long before the 3rd down. Rush 4 and drop 7 is why it’s hard to get separation. How about the Smith penalties or Evan’s quitting on routes are those in YOUR calculations? Or a coach that holds TWO timeouts in regulation forcing a hail Mary or.sitting the hot Otton? This was a pass first offense the last two seasons until Bowles changed the game. Oh and who is in charge of coaching White in pass defending? And calling man to man on 4th & 9 when Davis was getting smoked by Copper? Not to mention these paper marche DB’s. Oh how did ST’s do today was that on Brady to?

  47. Rod Munch Says:

Defense Rules – Brady didn’t turn the ball over though, all I heard for years was that you can’t ever turn over the ball, and if you stop doing that, you’ll win.

Now you tell me the QB is the issue when they don’t turn the ball over?

Also, maybe look at down and distance on those 3rd downs, and perhaps the stupid playcalls that were on 3rd down. How about some simple crossing routes or slants – and instead Leftwich is calling for 3 guys running fly patterns when the other team is dropping 8 into coverage.

Turns out the only stat that matters is scoring more points than the other team, not winning the turnover battle or having more rushing yards than the other team.

These coaches are losers, and defending them is as dumb as saying Chris Conte and Ryan Smith were good players.

  48. Kidfloflo Says:

If Bowles and Left foot are too stupid to not take a time out on final drive of regulation, then why the hell did Brady not!? Knowing we had 2 left! He is capable and has been in that position many many times

  49. Defense Rules Says:

Rod … I’m not one to defend the coaching, and if you read all of my comment you’d see that. Football’s a TEAM SPORT last I looked though, and Brady is just as responsible for our terrible offensive performance as any player out there.

My comment related specifically to the NINE punts we made today and on what led up to the need to punt. Most were … but not all. Yet they still attempted to pass.

    O 3rd-and-2 … Pass incomplete
    O 3rd-and-1 … Run (didn’t make it)
    O 3rd-and-18 … Pass complete for 8 yards
    O 3rd-and-8 … Pass complete for 2 yards
    O 3rd-and-11 … Pass complete for 9 yards
    O 3rd-and-3 … Pass incomplete
    O 3rd-and-13 … Sack
    O 3rd-and-14 … Pass incomplete
    O 3rd-and-9 … Sack

On the 3rd-and-longs, take a good look at what led up to us getting into those situations. On the day Brady was 3-for-10 on deep passes which contributed to a lot of those 3rd-and-long situations. He still threw his standard 67% on the day, but the deep passing incompletions killed us. So did White’s running BTW. Yes he broke one 35-yarder, but other than that he was 13-for -29 yards, a whopping 2.2 YPC average on 93% of his runs. That didn’t help either.

  50. Oneilbuc Says:

Rob Munch . Why do you call it hate because people are holding him accountable?? The defense held the Panthers 7 points for 3 quarters. They held the Steelers to 20 points. They held the Packers to 16 I believe. They held the Browns to 10 points for 3 and half quarter. You Tom Brady fan boys are never going to hold Brady accountable for nothing . He’s 45 years old it’s ok if he’s not playing good now. But to be hoping he comes back next year is crazy to me because it will be worse next year if he comes back. It’s time to move on from Brady he’s done!!!

  51. unbelievable Says:

I’ve been telling y’all for years that Leftwich is clueless and a joke.

But no one wanted to listen.

  52. C2asante Says:

Who practiced on Thanksgiving and who took time off? Who practiced through training camp and who took a family trip to the Bahamas? Who traveled with the team and who took a side trip to his former owners wedding? Bottom line the coaching is not good enough, the play is not good enough and the greatest QB of all time has not been engaged enough…. Easy to question the competence of the Black coaches for everything that’s wrong, but hypocritical to act as if the QB and leader of the team bears zero responsibility for the teams play.

  54. JimmyfromNY Says:

Onebuc-Your homeboy Mike Evans has crapped his pants all season. What about the perfect throw in overtime that he doesn’t extend his arms for, battling through contact to make play? How about the miraculous play to get the ball to white in overtime to get into field-goal range but another one of your homeboys Donny Smith with another horrific penalty at the wrong time. Complete incompetence in this organization on the sidelines on the field. I love every time Brady makes a play. It makes it makes you sick to your stomach. The past Two decades of him sticking it to you year after year. I love it.

  55. Fitz Says:

So many bad coaching decisions today. Got to wonder why they stopped using Otten and went back to Brate? Seemed like they finally got things working on offense in Germany and they went back to their same old boring and predictable play calling. Watching all the other teams play today it seems like every other team is finding ways to scheme players open and open holes for running backs. It’s like the Bucs offense is playing checkers while other teams are playing chess. And why can’t the Bucs defense get any turnovers this year? It’s like they forgot how to do it. This team has to many good players to consistently play as bad as they have this year. Coaches look lost on the sidelines

  57. Anonymous Says:

Must be nice to be Brady. Practice when you want, leave the team when you want, play however you want and know at the end of the day you will be credited as the reason for every win and your coaches will get blamed for every loss. That privilege must be grand.
