Aaron Stinnie Carted Off, Injured In Garbage Time Of Preseason Game 2

August 20th, 2022

Injured guard Aaron Stinnie.

Joe has no doubt that devoted family man and work-life balance devotee Tom Brady was huddled around the TV with his Bucs-loving family tonight watching the Tennessee-Tampa Bay preseason game.

As a result, Joe suspects Brady sent one of his servants out on a Tums run in the third quarter.

That’s when likely starting left guard Aaron Stinnie was carted off after minutes lying on the field with what appeared to be a major knee injury.

Rookie left guard Luke Goedeke struggled as tonight’s starter following a disappointing week of practice. So Stinnie was the backup versus the Titans and was in the game after halftime, playing against — and with — a bunch of guys who will soon be unemployed.

Exactly why Stinnie was in the game at all is something that should keep head coach Todd Bowles up all night tonight — hopefully alongside general manager Jason Licht watching film of left guards around the league.

The Bucs have a crisis situation now on the offensive line, just 22 days from opening day.

Three weeks ago Pro Bowl center Ryan Jensen was lost with a major knee injury. Stinnie or Goedeke were in line to replace retired Pro Bowl guard Ali Marpet.

With the preseason finale next Saturday in Indianapolis, Joe suspects Nick Leverett will get a long look at left guard. He shined there in November, his first major NFL action as Leonard Fournette led the way with four touchdowns in the Bucs’ thrilling win.

Bowles told Joe this week that Brady isn’t giving feedback to coaches during his mid-training-camp vacation. Joe suspects that will change tomorrow.

  1. BucsBro Says:

Absolutely moronic for Bowles to still have him out there then.

The coaches didn’t tell Hall to go easy on the play that hurt Jensen, and now this.

Absolutely ridiculous if the season gets blown up because of these dumb mistakes. Unreal.

  2. NCBucfan Says:

Giselle to Tom, “Baby, why would you want to go back and get smashed, when you can just stay home and smash me baby”

  3. NCBucfan Says:

What lame excuse will Bowles have for this one!

  4. MadMax Says:

Sign Tretter, move Hainsey over to LG to battle with Luke….and yeah its gonna cost!

  5. NCBucfan Says:

Can Ali put the weight back on in 3 weeks?? Please?????????

  6. fern Says:

LOL the drama injuries part of game

  7. 99 55 47 20 Says:

Forget all the crying about where TB12 is? I’m worried about why we keep getting key injuries to OL in dumb situations .. and that’s on the Coaches. I mean This is ridiculous. But we’ll be ok

  8. Gus Says:

Bowles is garbage. Nothing will change my mind about that.

  9. Anonymous Says:

    All of preseason garbage time!

  10. Bird Says:

    Feel bad for stinnie

But lets be honest, he wasnt getting it done. He has struggled all preseason. He started at right guard then went to left guard. Not great play on either side. Go back and watch. And he is playing second string guys

Leverett aint the guy. Heck no on walton

And i said weeks ago, oline huge issue and bring in tretter. Remember how a ton on here including our very joes thought over reaction. We were good with 3 new interior starters. And hainsey was all a sudden this buc legend. Pass block good. Tretter not happening.

Got to call up someone now. Or make trade for solid pick. Sure cuts are coming in just a few days. But Best move is get tretter in at center and hainsey to left guard. Do it now. And then sign another lineman on final cuts. Goedeke will need a season to figure things out apparently.

  11. IE Buc Says:

Absolute moronic insanity on the part of the coaching staff for having him out there in second half garbage time. They deserve all the criticism and hard questions.

Unfortunate for Vaughn. His major contribution tonight was taking out Stinnie’s knee.

  12. MadMax Says:

Boy, that Guard Ed Ingram sure is looking good….thats who I wanted….just saying

  13. PewterStiffArm Says:

    This team looks pretty pathetic!

  14. 99 55 47 20 Says:

Definitely time to trade a high draft pick or sign another FA for OL. Hopefully it’s MCL and not worse

  15. Vegasbuccaneer Says:

    Cut the o line now

  16. westernbuc Says:

Blaine Gabbert is going to get obliterated this season

  17. MonkeyMan Says:

We are beyond screwed. The O-line looks like they should be playing college ball right now. A D2 school.

Why are coaches and management paralyzed by this situation. They’re like deer in headlights. I just don’t get it. I guess we should all just ignore too cause apparently that’ll make it go away. At least that’s the Bucs strategy.

    DO SOMETHING!!!

  18. IrishTony Says:

Now they’re going to have to sign Tretter and move Hainsey to guard. Leverett can back up those 2 positions.

  19. NCBucfan Says:

Screw the tums Joe, get Brady a fifth of tequila!!!

  20. HC Grover Says:

    Another Bowles Blunder?

  21. Burton Says:

    Bowles is soft!

  22. FrontFour Says:

Stinnie never should have been out there. Just stupid.

  23. SKBucsFan Says:

As much as we woukd like to bubble wrap the starters next week they do have to get some game time in. Nobody wins the practice. Need to play at game speed. Am looking forward to seeing Trask with a better offense.

  24. Dew Says:

Trade TylerJohnson for a quality guard.

  25. Dave in Winter Park, Fla Says:

Now The Bucs have only Devon Smith from their Starting 2021 Offensive Line. The Cowboys (+1’) will smoke The Bucs in 2022 NFL Regular Season Week 1 Bottom Line No Offensive Line, No Chance, Vs. Cowboys on NBC ❗️Brady or No Brady. FACT ❗️Dave Corcoran, 2018 Westgate Super Contest, Winter Park, Florida.

  26. Posey99 Says:

Why would you have a starting lineman in the game period. Luke or Aaron had no business in this game. You have plenty of tape of them both going against vita vea. They ran the ball all game so they could get this look, it was obvious and a reckless decision.

  27. MadMax Says:

Na, keep TJ….ive been saying it for a while, the trade value is in scooter….trade Miller if we have to (contract year). I dont want to but what do you do…..

  28. JimmyJack Says:

I dont understand the reaction. As far as I knew Stinnie was battling for a job with 2 others. So your mad they played him when they are still evaluating?

Did he already win the job and I am unaware?

  29. 99 55 47 20 Says:

Sign Suh to play G and JPP to play backup tackle lol

  30. JimmyJack Says:

Posey so your saying he is the starting LG? Or was? Then why didnt he start?

  31. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Trade 6 WRs for a LG……

  32. Bucsfan13 Says:

I knew this would happen! The team totally botched the OL situation once Jensen got hurt. The wait and see approach was doomed from the start. They should’ve brought in a vet C to compete with Hainsey and left Hainsey also compete at LG. Leverett isn’t the solution. The Titans players told him to go back to the practice squad! Talk about a lack of respect. We drafted a project in Goedeke to take over at LG. This would all be fine if this wasn’t a SB or bust season for the team.

  33. IE Buc Says:

Starters needing game time is what the season is for. Their game time is week 1. It goes from week 1 to week 17.

  34. Crickett Baker Says:

All I know is that I saw more missed tackles than M+Ms in a 1-pound bag. It was so bad.

  35. Coburn Says:

I dunno Jimmy. I think staff was definitely making it sound like goedeke still needed some work and then when he struggled starting this game they should have realized stinnie was too valuable imo and kept him out

  36. Im not tired anymore we Super Bowl Champs!! Says:

I never liked Bowels….bad move in my opinion.

  37. Kody Says:

    Bucsfan13 –

Totally agree. Can’t believe the Bucs didn’t snap up Tretter once Jensen got hurt. Huge mistake. I have no confidence in this interior OL going into the regular season.

  38. gotbbucs Says:

I would honestly consider drafting an offensive lineman in the 1st round of every draft if you have one questionable starter out there. If all starters are reliable, then 2nd round pick.
You need two starting caliber players for every position on the line.

Marpet’s cute little early retirement is proving to be catastrophic.

  39. Ufcguy Says:

Bowles better get his head outta his ass and get Jason to call jc trotter right tf now. If I’m brady I refuse to come back to this oline. Absolutely garbage

  40. Maniac Buc Says:

Man, this page needs a ton of Xanax…

    EVERYBODY PLEASE CALM DOWN

  41. T REX Says:

bowels has it under control….buwhahaha…dude sucks

  42. steele Says:

Bowles’ decision making has been questionable for a long time, from the bitter end to last season to the current weird camp and preseason.

While not everything is his fault, this was stupid, but possibly a blessing in disguise. They will now be forced to do what should have been done weeks ago, possibly months ago.

Stinnie is a borderline backup in the first place, who has shown that he is not starting caliber. Leverett is a mess, even worse, and he should not “be given a look”, we’ve had enough of a look to know. Goedeke is a long way from ready.
Hainsey, regardless of the in-house acclaim, is not ready.

Sign Tretter or find another starting caliber C/G who can legit play until Jensen is back. Sign another C/G/T as well.

Hainsey may not even be good enough to play LG and if he were forced to move over, he’d have to learn something new again.

If this were the old Pats with Scarnecchia, he’d be able to cobble together a decent OL by moving (mostly qualified and flexible) guys all over the place. Bucs don’t have this.’

Fear for Brady. Fear for this season.

  43. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I have total confidence that Licht will take care of business…..

  44. HomerSimpsonRocks Says:

Ain’t winning the super Bowl this year. Might start 0-4.

  45. AbucAway Says:

If I had to choose between a vet LG or a vet C, I get a LG and keep Hainsey at center sandwiched between the vets until Jensen reappears. Go with a two back set to help if needed. Any good LG’s for rent this season?

  46. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I do not blame Bowles for playing him…the players are there for a reason.

Here’s the thing…it doesn’t matter. Brady will force the line to play better regardless of who is there.

We’re getting our 3rd ring this season.

  47. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Convince Ali Marpet to come back!

  48. JimmyJack Says:

Im woth Maniac. Ive never seen so much crying about a guy getting hurt when he was competing with 2 others.

Not really worried about the Guard position. A good coaching staff can figure out how to get 1 solid guard. If you need 2 thats a little dicey.

Remember Cappa was one step away from bust until this staff got here. And we one a SB without 1 of our starting Guards.

  49. JimmyJack Says:

Bonzai great point. There a big difference between blocking in August in front of Trask and having Brady calling out the protection.

  50. Kody Says:

Jensen out for the season. Now Stinnie probably out for the season. Goedeke looks like he’s playing on rollerskates. Hainsey isn’t impressing fans at all, despite the coaches trying to prop him up.

I can see why Brady isn’t eager to come back. He’s got no protection.

  51. JeffreyLane77 Says:

I’m having flashbacks to our decimated secondary last year.

  52. adam from ny Says:

    there is no crisis…

basically the entire o-lone is depleted as sh!t…

and like i mentioned a rare post i made a couple days back, because i rarely have posted these days…

one more significant injury to the o-line and tommy b is gonzo…

he’s not coming back after marpet and cappa bailed, gronk said fugg it, jensen went down, and now stinnie went down…

    that’s it folks…it’s a wrap…

tom knows he’s gonna get killed out there…and believe you me, his wife is telling him that too…

    the party is over…

    geez

  53. Kody Says:

Bucs management is doing a terrible job regarding the OL. It’s criminal they didn’t get Tretter as soon as Jensen got injured. Really we need Tretter and a solid vet guard. Like we need them this second.

  54. captivajim Says:

bowles is off to making same DUMB mistakes that he did in new york . Jensen gets hit by rookie eagrness in “no contact ” training camp drills ..

Now Bowles leaves Stinnie in during garbage time of a pre-season game !!!!!

Brady may Not come back now ……..

  55. Josh Says:

Can we cut Vaughn for taking out Stinnie? 🤣😂 Dude will never contribute on offense in the regular season. It seems like he runs straight into the back of the offensive line on every run. No hesitation, no cut, mediocre receiver. Yes white has made some mistakes but first turnover was a total fluke and he has shown the proper hesitation, cuts, and looks like he’s floating on air. Plus he gets open as a receiver.. Oh yeah and let’s not forget we have Bernard. Oh wait, Bowles has already sacrificed him to garbage time as well. Hopefully we’re getting rid of the injury bug early cuz damn this is hard to watch.

  56. Bucsfan13 Says:

@Bird. I feel so vindicated with my concern about this OL. You’re absolute right. The Joes dismissed it as overreaction. Ira also was throwing out warning signs that this OL was in trouble on the podcast. The wait and see approach was always flawed, especially on a win now season. We have all these wonderful skill players, but no line. It’s like a Ferrari with no engine.

  57. ATLBuc Says:

We are going to cut at least three receivers who will be in another team’s top 4 rotation. I hope we can leverage that talent to trade for some help on the line

  58. ATLBuc Says:

Justin watson couldnt make our team but shined for KC tonight

  59. Bucsfan13 Says:

@Steele. You’ve been one of the few people sounding the alarms on this OL very early. Even before Jensen was injured, I had concerns about LG, but some people thought we could plug and play Stinnie in at LG. It was totally disrespectful to Marpet who was a Pro Bowler. Now, we have a full blown mess so close to the season starting. This was a function of the organization hubris to just think that Hainsey would be just fine. We didn’t need Tretter because Hainsey was a smart guy who went to ND and works hard. This is what I call a loser mentality that has plagued this organization for years. You put in the person who gets the damn job done!

They botched this from the beginning. Dante isn’t around. I’m sure Tom would at least have some faith if he were around. Also, Tom would also have faith that McDaniels would make some adjustments to the offense because we have issues on the line. They’ll still try the long developing deep stuff instead of going quick game.

While everyone kept chasing gossip stories on Brady, I’m sure Tom was totally unbothered. The only thing that bothers him his a lack of standard and incompetence. He must be shaking his head right now. Tom in his past might’ve worked with subpar lines, but he’s 45 now.

    “JimmyJack Says:

Posey so your saying he is the starting LG? Or was? Then why didnt he start?”

Tristan Wirfs and Ryan Jensen are down. The only person that should be playing was geodeke for the reps as a rookie. They already know what they have in stinnie, he’s started games. They were trying to get cute and have a competition in the middle of the game. Pull geodeke for holding? No let him play. Boneheads

  61. Stanglassman Says:

Looked like a MCL injury. If that’s the case he will be back later this year.

  62. steele Says:

Even if Jensen hadn’t gone out, the hole at LG was obvious. RG supposedly patched with Shaq, but he hasn’t looked right so far. Bottom line, a lack of quality depth—with the emphasis on “quality”—demanded immediate and unfortunately most costly moves, earlier on. Now they have no or little choice, if they want to compete.

So much confidence in Hainsey, Stinnie, Leverett, Wells, etc. That’s fine for a rebuilding expansion team with low expectations with a 3 yr window. Not a projected Super Bowl team for Tom Brady, with a 1 yr window, a brutal schedule that may not be survivable.

They’re still waiting for Jensen to be back by Nov/Dec? (Jensen’s camp being as mysterious as Brady’s. Why?)

Tretter and Paradis are still out there. Ereck Flowers, an excellent pass blocker, Laurent Duvernay-Tardiff are out there. Good old Nate Solder is, too, and although he hasn’t played guard, he probably could.

These guys know how to play. Right now.

  63. Bucs Guy Says:

Goedeke is not ready to start. Go out and get a G. He’s had 2 bad games to show everyone. He may be good down the line, but he’s not there yet. Hope Mason is half as good as they say or the Bucs are really in trouble.

Hainsey is just OK. Consider getting a C.

Should be good at both T.

  64. Defense Rules Says:

The old saying ‘You are where you are’ holds true just as much today as it did yesterday. Can’t change a thing that’s already happened; the water didn’t go under the bridge, it took it out. Bucs’ OLine is hurting, BUT … I’d rather have it happen now than in Game 1 or Game 2. There are still several potential starting OLinemen out there, AND final cuts have yet to be made. More quality OLinemen will hit the market in the days ahead.

Fans need to settle down and let’s see what can be salvaged from this mess. Donovan Smith & Shaq Mason both seem to be quite healthy. Tristan Wirfs got dinged up, but he should be back for Game 1. Hainsey needs more reps, but he’s serviceable (at least until Ryan Jensen gets back). I’m not sold on Goedeke at this point, but he is a ROOKIE (makes me appreciate all the more what Wirfs has accomplished). Sign a quality FA for LG, make a trade, whatever. Git ‘er done JL.

  65. richbucsfan Says:

The Bucs have shown a special kind of fragile this preseason. What is wrong with their training regimen? By the end of the Saints game. licht will have to rebuild the entire team. I’ve seen this for years, it’s the same trend, Serious injuries to key players. smh

  66. Jeff Says:

Bowles is looking like a clown right now. His team is falling completely apart and the season hasn’t even begun. Dallas 40 Bucs 13.

  67. orlbucfan Says:

Why did Marpet retire? Cos he got a SB ring and wanted to preserve himself. I was impressed with Kyle Trask and the overall play of the D. OL and ST need work. Someone like Arians needs to hit BL over the head with a club. This up-the-middle-run-on-first-down is just stupid as well as predictable.

  68. BucsFanSince1976 Says:

Horrific mistake drafting Goedeke and asking him to play out of position in his first year. Ingram was available at that pick and was All-Sec and a TRUE LG that was ready to start on Day 1. I warned the Bucs about this before and after the draft and now the chickens have come home to roost. Just unforgiveable to have Stinnie in the game at that juncture considering you KNEW you were super thin at Oline. Disgusted I am. I would not blame Brady if he goes back into retirement after the complete and utter mismanagement of the Oline.

  69. geno711 Says:

Be careful about revisionist history BucsfanSince1976. You were the guy saying that we should have drafted Devin Lloyd in our 1st choice. Not Logan Hall.

Who is better this preseason out of those two? Easy Logan Hall.

I do remember you liking Ingram as a 3rd round pick, not a 2nd round pick.
And it is not like Ingram just won his competition easily, his competition (Chris Reed is an Aaron Stinnie type free agent signee) has been injured and Ingram has only been getting the starts since that injury.

  70. Scott Says:

why was he in there another bonehead move by bowles

  71. Mark A Swygert Says:

Ironic. If I remember the details correctly, when Jensen was injured during that “no contact” drill, it was because Stinnie shoved Logan Hall into his leg. Perhaps becuse Hall was a little over eager.

  72. Baby Grace Says:

“I’m worried about why we keep getting key injuries to OL in dumb situations .. and that’s on the Coaches.”
Can anyone understand that they are trying to find out who is the best starter at left LG? How do you find out who it is going to be? YOU HAVE TO PLAY THEM!!
There are 3 players trying to win the spot. It is unfortunate that Stinnie got hurt, but that’s football. How are you going to evaluate a player if the don’t play? Some of you posters and Joe have no clue!!

  73. Brandon Says:

Forgot Tyler Johnson… he’s the 6th.. Thompkins could be the 7th
