Todd Bowles Non-Committal On Tom Brady Return, Says Brady “Not Involved” With Coaches

August 18th, 2022

Todd Bowles

Man, Joe so wishes Todd Bowles simply said today that the Bucs would see Tom Brady next week.

But that’s not what happened as Joe stood two feet from the head coach in Tennessee.

After practice with the Titans, Joe asked Bowles whether Brady is watching practice film during his absence and providing any feedback to coaches or if Brady is disconnected.

“We just worry about our practice with Tennessee,” Bowles said. “Tom’s not involved with the coaches. We practice on our own.”

Asked what day Brady will return, Bowles replied, “We’ll see,” before elaborating.

“We’ll talk about it next week,” Bowles continued. “I’m not concerned about it right now. We’re trying to [prep] for Tennessee and play a game. I said, ‘Sometime after Tennessee,’ There’s no definitive date. But we’ll check on it and we’ll be in touch, and we’ll find out.”

Opening night in Dallas is in 24 days.

  1. Tampabaybucfan Says:

That does not sound good…..sounds “mysterious”

  2. Pewter Warrior 813 Says:

Sounds like someone who is in over his head. If this was pre planned and approved as recently reported then they’d know the dates and when to expect him back.

  3. Brian Says:

Divorce rumors starting to make there rounds. No judgement here, Wait and see,

  4. Louis Friend Says:

Just sounds like a coach who’s tired of talking about it, doesn’t like that it’s happening but does expect him back. Take it down a notch before hitting the panic button.

Would anyone blame Bowles for being aggravated by the whole thing? I wouldn’t.

  5. Bucsfan13 Says:

I’m officially worried and Bowles sounds irritated. I’m amazed that no national media guys haven’t reported exactly what’s happening with Tom. The guy hasn’t been on social media. He’s been totally disconnected. When’s the next scheduled practice? Tom needs to come out and give us a date of his return. If he ghosts this team, his legacy will forever be sullied. How could he look any of his teammates in the eyes. I wish the Joes would do some investigating to find out what’s going on. Maybe Ira could sniff around.
Joe has done tons of sniffing and will have a story if Brady is not back on Monday.–Joe

  6. westernbuc Says:

    Insert *this is fine* meme

  7. Kyle Says:

Any update on he Tristan wirfs injury today at practice?

  8. Jack Burton Mercer Says:

I agree with Louis. Too much reading between the lines by Joe. Bowles is a straight shooter so I take his words at face value.

  9. Kirk Says:

If TB wanted us to know what he is up to, he would tell us.

  10. JD Says:

This Wirfs injury legit made me sick. If this is a big injury I am really starting to get nervous about our chances winning the whole thing.

  11. steele Says:

Whatever the story is, it’s bad PR on all sides, creating the appearance of disconnect and trouble. “Uninvolved with coaches”. And players. Is he “involved” with Licht? It would be very simple to clear everything up, but they keep being mysterious.

Meanwhile, Wirfs. At this rate, Tom won’t have a line to come back to at all.

  12. CrackWise Says:

Hey Joe, why do you put monikers on people’s names?
No one like to keep explaining themselves to the same people over and over.
Sounds to me like he gave you the same answer but in a different way.
Sounds to me like Todd is focused on the mission at hand.
Sounds to me like you’re fishing for a shark in someone’s backyard pond.
Although it is appreciated, it is also annoying to watch someone continue to beat a dead bear.
    Next article please. 🙂
Players just came off a COVID era where more people were home studying film and learning the playbook on iPads and communicating with coaches. It’s certainly a reasonable question to ask whether Brady is watching practice film cut-ups and sharing thoughts. –Joe

  13. Goatfarmer Says:

Neal out. Wirfs out. The whole damn team is getting injured. Christ. Put everyone on vacation. This is stupid.

  14. #8 Says:

I suspect Todd irritated for the guys at practice & all folks ask is about a dude not at practice. Lots of coaches get irritated at that. Quite a mischaracterization. Nobody even asked about Brady yesterday or the whole week, to Joe’s knowledge, until today. –Joe
I’m more worried about Wirfs. I’m not worried about Suh.

  15. buddy Says:

HaHa this is hilarious. Bowles is a joke of a coach. TEAM GLAZER and their greedy ways are totally gonna regret this guy.

  16. Orlando Kevin Says:

With a tough schedule to start the season, if the Bucs look out of sync early, I’d guess the Bucs and Brady are going to get criticized for Brady being absent. I trust Brady but this adds to the drama if we start slow. Hoping for the best.

  17. sasquatch Says:

    @buddy, you’re a fool.

  18. Alanbucsfan Says:

Where in the World is Brady Sandiego ??

  19. CrackWise Says:

Hey buddy, what’s the joke? I he hasn’t done anything for us but win a SB and keep our D in the top 10.

I would ask you why you’re a jerk, but I know your answer would be nothing but a joke.

I regret you as a fellow fan of the Bucs

  20. sasquatch Says:

If it was pre-planned, we would have known a return date. Brady doesn’t really wanna play anymore. You don’t bail on your team without a specific return date if everything is okay.

  21. Dooley Says:

Sounds like what Bowles said when this was initially announced, Bowles sounded irked by the question being asked….again. Maybe the ole HC is tired of repeating himself? or being asked the same question 10 different ways, who knows.

  22. Miller5252 Says:

Who like to talk to their boss on vacation? No way this is about being done unless he’s injured.

  23. CrackWise Says:

My bad Joe, I failed to realize you were making the connection to how things got done remotely in prior years.

I wonder if Todd understood that from your question? It is a very fair and good point/question and does change my opinion dramatically if indeed Todd understood the question as you just clarified.

Based on Todds answer to the question: “Joe asked Bowles whether Brady is watching practice film during his absence and providing any feedback to coaches or if Brady is disconnected”.

I think he failed to make the connection as I did.

AHHHH, can’t wait for Kyle Trask to take over this dumpster fire of a team! 😛

  24. BucU Says:

Why hasn’t Joe reported on Tristan Wirfs getting carted off the field w injury today?
Can u believe this? This shyt is getting totally out of hand. If Wirfs is going to be out any significant length of time TB12 could say I’m done with this.
We just can’t practice AT ALL w/o injuries.
It’s a joke at this point.

  25. J Ghotier Says:

His departure was “pre-planned”, yet his return is “we’ll see” and “we’ll talk about it next week”

Common guys. Goat or nut, let’s start being real….we don’t do that enough these days w/o someone saying someone “is triggered” or “doesn’t get a joke”, etc.

This is getting serious and the words being used since the Bowles initial PC ain’t quite right.

  26. Bucsfan13 Says:

Joe I know you’re sniffing around. Why can’t you post the story now? It’s getting ridiculous. Is it anything serious?

  27. Crickett Baker Says:

Ya. All sorts of things are going on under the radar, it seems. The Glazers are having a horrible time with Manchester United. People seem to hate them in London. And now all these Bucs’ injuries and Bowles being way too “closed mouth” about what is going on with Brady. I am getting depressed, and just short of PO’d.

  28. CrackWise Says:

J Ghotier, I fail to understand your point.

Does it really matter who is or is not at PRACTICE? Is that “real” enough for ya?

As far as how the question is being answered, you should check to see how the questions are being asked. ANYONE can make a story out of NOTHING if they ask the question properly or in some cases, improperly.

You know what is getting serious however, INJURIES! Though, this time of year you can’t let them become the excuse for why you’re not prepared for the games.

Besides, why are we crying about an over the hill GOAT being are only hope when we have the GREAT Kyle “The Marksmen” Trask waiting in the wings. Check those collage stats out. The Marksmen is the real deal.

  29. Jeff Says:

He’s NOT coming back. I flipping told you guys! The really sullies the SB victory. Such a betrayal to the Bucs.

  30. Adrnagy Says:

If he doesnt come back we got gabbert 😉

  31. GOB Says:

Say it with me folks. Work Life Balance. Whatever the hell that means. Before I retired, I had work life balance. It started at 5pm at the end of the work day. Further balance on the weekends, and three weeks of vacation time. Brady gets six months off a year. If that isn’t enough time to find balance, maybe he should’ve stayed retired. Isn’t that the reason he retired in the first place? Or was it a power play, designed to facilitate a trade to Miami. GOB tends to believe the latter. Brady is acting like an indentured servant. I don’t think he, or his wife really wanted to be here this season. This absence smacks of a condition of Brady returning. Either that, or his marriage is in serious trouble.

  32. Oneilbuc Says:

Brady will be back but I can tell you this is his last year. Oh by the way it could be Bowles telling yall that Brady does not coach the team like the that false narrative Joe and the rest of the national media has been endocrinenated yall to believe . But he will be back this year.

  33. Bigbuc90 Says:

I just think we are over looking the situation I wouldn’t be shocked if brady is back next week.

  34. BucsFan81 Says:

Brady is coming back anyone that thinks otherwise doesn’t know Brady. Dude is not going to put his reputation and career on the line and walk away right before the season starts. He won’t go out as a quitter. The organization is just not going to go into it right now because it is not the Brady show. It’s about the team not 1 person mentality. So they will deal with it next week. As far as injuries go lets just hope everyone is healthy by week 1 with the exception of Jenson I think he is done until some time in December.

  35. HomerSimpsonRocks Says:

    Making worried Marge Simpson sounds…..

  36. beano Says:

    Thanks for the memories, Tom.

  37. Bucsfan13 Says:

@Bucsfan81. He’ll have that quitter reputation wrapped around his neck. His whole legacy would be finished. The guy who’s known for his leadership and competitive fire would be gone. Who wants to buy clothes from a guy who quits on his team. He needs to speak up now. He’s leaving everyone out to dry like the whole retirement fiasco. Has he spoken to any of his teammates? I know he’s close with Lenny and the receiver group. Maybe he spoke with Blaine. No one will be talking about his 7 championships if he quits. It’s also a bad look hat he didn’t want to fight through adversity because Jensen got injured. How the heck would this guy be able to look to his teammates in the eyes. No paparazzi has been able to track him down. It’s time to get TMZ on the case.

  38. SB~LV Says:

You would have to be extremely naïve to believe that this is not a MASSIVE distraction within the organization.

  39. Bucsfan13 Says:

Brady has always said he hated distractions, but now he’s a big one to the team right now. Gisele is the Yoko Ono of the Bucs. Someone put a microphone in front of BA!!!

  40. GOB Says:

Oh I have no doubt he’ll be back. He cares about his image and legacy too much. Anyone who believes he won’t come back is simply wrong IMO. But, let’s see how he behaves. If he’s the sullen figure we saw at the beginning of camp, then I’d start to worry. His last year in NE, he was the unhappiest 8-0 QB in the league, and it showed. He didn’t mail it in by any stretch, but Brady has always gained his edge from being super focused. I think it’s human nature to lose focus, if we’re not happy, for whatever reason.

  41. Anonymous Says:

Somebody ask Tom’s Dad what’s up..

  42. Bucsfan13 Says:

@GOB Yeah, he does care about his legacy, but I don’t think he’s coming back. Why is he so social media quiet since his absence? His peers would definitely look down on him. I know in NE he’s always done it his way as far as when he talked to the media. He felt no obligation to do so, but now he needs to speak up. He’s not coming back. He’s working on a carefully worded PR statement about his retirement.

  43. Goatfarmer Says:

    What is up with Wirfs??????

  44. Bucsfan13 Says:

Good idea. Tommy’s dad likes to talk. I think Brady threatened to throw him in the retirement home if he talks again. He also said Brady wasn’t retiring and the next day he did. Tom Curran is close with his dad. Maybe he could buy him some cocktails and get him talking. Does Skip Bayless know anything?

  45. Coran Says:

I’d be so embarrassed to be many of you. “No one will care about the 7 rings if he quits” lmao. Honestly, a bunch of 12 year old girls in here. If he quits, it’s for a reason. He’s literally done nothing to any of you except make this team relevant again. Now things aren’t 100% how you want and you’re throwing tantrums.
He’ll be back. And if I’m wrong, at least the bucs got a ring and 2 years of great football. Stop pouting, stop getting all anxious and worked up, stop pretending like anyone other than Tom knows what’s going on. No one here does, including me. You’re just making things up in your head like a super jealous gf who goes nuts when you’re 5 min late getting home from work. As for going after Giselle, that’s super unfortunate. She doesn’t owe you anything. I plan on coming down to watch the packers game, a life long dream, been saving a while now. But if I miss out because she wants her family I’m not going to lose it like some of you. Every game he risks concussion, serious injury. He’s already accomplished everything. There’s nothing left to prove. I don’t really blame her for wanting him at home, with their kids, as opposed to being chased by Aaron Donald. If the choice is between disappointing some teammates and fans vs LOSING YOUR FAMILY, the choice is obvious, keep the family. But again, we have no idea if that’s even what this is… hope he’s back, think he’ll be back, but if not, he gave us more than any other player ever so… thanks!

WHAT IS GOING IN IM GETTING A ERRIE FEELING TOMS NOT COMING BACK @joe PLEASE SAY SOMETHING TO EASE MY SUSPICIONS!! My GOD BLAINE GABBERT IS OUR BACKUP IM FREAKING out!

  47. J Ghotier Says:

    @CrackWise,

Who’s crying here?!? You’re weird and overreactive w/ that comment dude 🤯 #flabbergasted

  48. Listnfrmafar Says:

Oneilbucyall is on to something. This is the new narrative so Bowles will be respected as the HC and Brady is NOT looked at that way. I am convinced this is a marital issue that may not end well for.rhe Bucs. Brady’s old man has never been able to keep his mouth shut, yet not a peep out of him. Maybe he found out Jack was a crack head and he is trying to take full custody from Bridget. It looks like the Pirate ship has sunk. Say hello to a 7-10 season.

  49. Joshua porter Says:

I truly think the way there dealing with this it has to be an injury that he doesn’t want to tell anyone about.

Did Brian Stelter tell you this? Sorry about your boy getting fired.

  51. D-Rok Says:

    @Listn,

I had the same thought about his son Jack and custody. If I remember right, Brady had some custody problems a few years back with his X (Bridget?). Of all the “things” I can conjure up that would be a personal issue keeping Brady from the team, his son is the only thing that pops up for me. But, who knows, except Brady?

Hoping us fans get clarification real soon…

  52. George Says:

I continue to think there is a greater than 50 Percent chance that Mr. Brady does not return .

Was a good run while it lasted .

Will be ironic if the Bucs sign Jimmy G as his replacement

  53. 55 99 47 20 Says:

Bowles just isn’t giving a specific day likely bcuz it is a lil up in the air .. as in sometime next week. It’s ok to relax a lil

  54. ModHairKen Says:

  55. sasquatch Says:

    Hey Joe in Michigan!
    You’re a piece of sh!t
    Have a nice day!

Brady will bring gronk back I got a strange feeling that’s what’s going on.
