The Earl Of Watford Has Confidence In Robert Hainsey

July 28th, 2022

Possibly the new Bucs starting center, second-year man Robert Hainsey.

This Ryan Jensen knee injury doesn’t just have Bucs fans down in the dumps. The way ex-Bucs are reacting on Twitter (they have access to better team sources than Joe), it almost sounds like they have to attend a wake.

One ex-Buc confessed on Twitter the news that Bucs star center Ryan Jensen blew out a knee in practice yesterday had fully ruined his Thursday.

Earl Watford, who Joe and Ira like to refer to as the “Earl of Watford,” a former Bucs reserve offensive lineman, took to Twitter (below) and explained if Jensen cannot go, Watford has faith in the Bucs’ new interior trio, Aaron Stinnie, Robert Hainsey and Shaq Mason.

Those are comforting words. Joe sure hopes Watford is on the money.

Oh, and Watford said if the Bucs need him to come into training camp, the Bucs have his number and his agent’s number. Just give the Earl of Watford a call and he will fly to Tampa from his Arizona home.

Later this morning, Joe will have insight from a former Bucs coach on Jensen and Hainsey, stuff that may help make your coffee stay down rather than ralphing it up thinking of Tom Brady getting blown up through the middle.

    Let’s get nasty my hogs

  2. Goatfarmer Says:

I’m already ralphing. It’s not coffee though.

  3. Anonymous Says:

I’d rather sign JC Tretter a proven vet then go with unproven Hainsey sorry

  4. Dewey Selmon Says:

Bledsoe gets hurt and Brady takes over. Jensen gets hurt and begins Hainsey HOF career.

  5. Kody Says:

Tragic that the Bucs managed to assemble an extremely exciting receiver corps only to have their likely effectiveness now compromised by a weakened O-line. Just a really tragic turn of events. Pray Jensen can bounce back from this fast.

  6. bucschamps Says:

not confident at this guy at all. a few snaps maybe?

  7. Rob In Land O Lakes Says:

If Hainsey starts the season, that means Tom likes him and approves. If they make a move for a veteran, that means Tom didn’t think he could start. That’s what to watch.

  8. SOEbuc Says:

Certainly looks like he put on some of the weight needed. Got your first year under your belt, let’s see whatcha got.

When I saw the replay I couldn’t believe it. It’s underwear football and there was an inside rush like it was overtime in the Super Bowl. When I saw Jensen lying on the ground holding his knee I almost just walked out into traffic. There are a lot of terrible positions to have injuries but the guy that snaps the ball to Tom “Freaking” Brady and is responsible for being that stone wall so Brady can step up and throw has to be the worse. The Bucs better move heaven and earth and find a very good center who has started games in this league. Right now there is one sitting at home.

  10. Goatfarmer Says:

How does this happen in underwear football? Jeebus Crimes.

  11. Joe Says:

    There you have it.

  12. Sorryjackchuckiesback Says:

Brady has one of the fastest releases in the NFL … With these receivers, if they stay healthy, it won’t need to be an all star line but just enough

To everyone trying to cope, It brings me back to something that Wirfs said during his rookie year, and what I’ve known since watching Brady his entire career, Wirfs said Tom told the line Don’t get beat fast and don’t get beat inside and we’ll be alright. That alone should have every Bucs fans having nightmares. We now have instability with the entire interior line, except for Mason but he plays on the right side. As has been pointed out by Lee on the podcast, if Stinnie was so good, why didn’t he have any takers? I’m totally not sold on Stinnie. It’s no surprise that he was the one who was beating so badly by a rookie that he got thrown into Jensen’s leg. Look how close that was to Brady’s leg. It could’ve easily been Tom on that cart. I’m sure Tom took note of that fact.

This isn’t a wait and see with Brady. He already knows if Hainsey is up to the job. Jensen was the main reason he returned. The bond between a center and QB is so important. I don’t think Tom will have much input on whether we sign a proven C. Licht is all in on Hainsey. Hainsey will have more games than a casino ran on him by defensive linemen. DL are licking their chops to get a hit on Brady.

Find a way to sign JC Tretter

  15. Melvin Junior Says:

I was screaming on draft night for the Bucs to move up and take Linderbaum outta Iowa, & once Pick #24 went by, I was like, “Do It, NOW… But then, Baltimore (of course) took HIM, & was like… FRIGGGGGG.

  16. Melvin Junior Says:

Thought it could be a real ‘beautiful-thing’ to have both, him & Wirfs together again, as teammates, anchoring that offensive line for the next 10+ years… After, watching that ‘ESPN-piece’ on them wrestling against each other in high school at the Iowa State Championship!!!! Dude Was An ANIMAL.

  17. steele Says:

Hainsey will get every opportunity to step up. It’s the cheapest option, the most hopeful one, the prayer. But how long will it take to know? Tretter has suitors, who will be more amped now to take him off the market in order to deny TB another SB.

I don’t think Licht should wait. Get that new center now. Even if Jensen recovers for any part of the season, even if Hainsey/Leverett can play at all, there is still a depth problem that needs to be addressed.

I just hate the idea of hoping for Hainsey/Goedeke/Hall/JTS/Otton to all emerge as pro bowlers all of a sudden, but looks like that’s what this season is depending on.

Lakeland Steve summed it up for me….

  19. DG060 Says:

We’re fuked. Let’s not sugar coat this. Unbelievable that these idiot coaches could have that kind of rush and contact going on in day 2.
Congrats on making the first massive blunder of the 2022 NFL season. And it’s going to be a costly one.

  20. SB~LV Says:

    OJT
    He’ll be fine!
He has plenty of time to getting tuned up with Brady and his OL buddies for the start of the season

  21. Brian Greene Says:

Sign JC Tretter . Free agent that ranked 6th among all centers recently.

  22. Coburn Says:

I think whether they have confidence in hainsey or not they need a vet. Why? Because you don’t enter the season without a backup to him. You are only one deep… Maybe two if goedeke can play guard and center… But then that’s one guy backing up all 3 interior positions? I guess there is Leverett as well

  23. Trey Long Says:

Don’t panic yet. TB can get the ball out quicker than anyone. Bryan Stork retired from Pats after Super Bowl win against Seahawks. Undrafted Rookie David Andrews took over for next few years wo missing a beat

  24. TampabayDJ82 Says:

Rob in land o lakes – Absolutely correct 💯 !! Whoever is the starting Center is going to be approved by Brady … PERIOD ! I don’t care if they have to trade away next year’s first round pick ! Especially if it’s going to be the 32 pick in the draft in doing so

  25. 941Boltsfan Says:

Not that I’m excited about replacing Jensen or that it is easy for the team, whether on or off the field. However, and not for nothing but Hainsey has been in Arizona training with Jensens ExBack-up and Bucs line coach A.Q. Shipley. So I like to think he’s had a few good months of what’s to be expected if he were to see snaps in Champa Bay!

  26. Wild Bill Says:

I said in several posts that the Bucs were so focused on adding weapons for Tom they were ignoring shallow depth in both O and D lines. Now we will see just how bad it is. The starters were mostly very good but depth was missing. And the Bucs were too complacent after losing two O line starters to free agency/retirement. And they are pretty shallow on the d line too. You need bad asses in the trenches to make Super Bowl!!

  27. Oneilbuc Says:

We have to see what these young players we drafted can do . Now a lot of yall love giving Jason Liech a lot of credit but it’s time for these draft picks to start producing now . He’s had a whole year to sit back and and learn . No excuses !!
