New OLB Coach Bob Sanders Wants Proof Before Coaching

May 5th, 2022

Bucs OLB coach Bob Sanders

Interesting angle earlier this week from new Bucs OLB coach Bob Sanders. It seems if he can’t find something wrong with a guy, he won’t fix what’s not broken.

Sanders doesn’t believe in “This is what I think, go do it.” If he doesn’t see a mistake on tape, then he’s not going to coach a guy about mistakes that don’t exist.

Sanders was asked about coaching Bucs sacks king Shaq Barrett and how Shaq can improve. Sanders began by saying Shaq is a good pass rusher and he loves how Shaq is open-minded to coaching with a stellar work ethic.

“I’ve tried to tweak as much as I could [working with Shaq] just watching the tape,” Sanders said. “I try not to tell him anything that I can’t prove by tape.”

What a novel concept. Don’t invent crap just to prove a point or to try to show how smart you are.

Shaq is one of the best pass rushers in the game. No need to fix something until you actually see a crack or worse develop, or defenses adjusting successfully.

There are too many coaches who are my-way-or-the-highway types. It seems to Joe that Sanders is more repairman than drill sergeant.

“I think he is in for another big year, I really do,” Sanders said of Shaq.

That’s good to hear! Can’t get enough pressure on the quarterback.

Seems like we have a really good cadre of coaches. It will be interesting to see how the change at the top affects overall performance this year.

    Well said, TBBF.

Shaq went up against terrible offensive lines, for the majority of the schedule. I realize he had more sacks than he did during his contact year, but I expected more from him last season. He’s 29, this should be his prime. I expect 12-14 sacks outta him this year.

Funny how the JTS tape was never mentioned.

    Good luck Coach.

Okay BIFF !! Maybe you should go tell JTS what he’s doing wrong ?? He was a rookie pass rusher and I know @joe will back me up on the FACT that unless you’re last name is Bosa , they aren’t going to be Simeon Rice their first year playing part time at that. Go Bucs ! Where do these people come from by the way ?

  9. Howard Cosell Says:

When did Brett Favre become a Bucs position coach?

  10. TampabayDJ82 Says:

BIFF- JTS was a rookie playing part time for one . I thought he played well for being a rookie on a star studded Dline . Did you expect Simeon Rice in his prime ? I’m sure @joe will agree with me that unless you’re last name is Bosa , your not going to tear it up as a rookie pass rusher ! Funny how you’re such the expert on how to coach a NFL defense. Go Bucs

Good–most of his energy can then be focused on JTS and Nelson and Gill and the new guy logan Hall
