Playmaker-In-Chief

Heroic day

Every playoff team needs hot players to carry it to the Super Bowl.

The Bucs had a few last year. Playoff Lenny comes to mind.

Who will it be this year?

Perhaps safety/nickel Mike Edwards is the guy. Edwards stepped in for injured cornerback Sean Murphy-Bunting today and led the Bucs with nine solo tackles, a key interception in the end zone and a tackle for loss.

In part-time duty this season, Edwards led the Bucs with three interceptions, and today made it four. Edwards isn’t a Pro Bowler, but he consistently performs when called upon.

Joe is fired up. It’s unclear what’s next for Murphy-Bunting’s hamstring, but it sure seems like the Bucs are in great hands.

And he has proven that failing to get a vax does not cause you to sprint shirtless across the end zone during the game.

SMB was the hot defensive player in last years playoffs with 3 picks in 3 games.

  8. firethecannons Says:

he saved the Colts game for us too! we had great safety play today! in fact the entire defense played outstanding! Scotty Miller tackled the punt catcher in such a way he could not get to the ball–so many plays were awesome–we were dialed in!

  10. SB Says:

    Absolute Ball Hawk!

  11. SB Says:

I agree with Formally Tampa 2.
I understand that he is a rook but he hasn’t showed me any of the ‘instincts’ that he was drafted for.
Barner should have been returning punts IMO if he isn’t injured.

    Safeties balled out today

  13. desanova Says:

Winfield played the nickel and Edwards played free safety. I think we may see more of this even when SMB returns.

  14. SB~LV Says:

    The roster is coming alive!

  15. unbelievable Says:

    That INT was huge!

Dean Whitehead and Winfield also played their arses off.

  16. #1bucsfan Says:

He was labeled as a ballhawk coming out of Kentucky and he sure hasn’t disappointed.

  17. webster Says:

Anybody asking for the bucs to get rid of rookies ie darden is a football dunce. Do any of you so called buc fans remember barber as a rookie? Hell this article is about edwards. Some of you same football dunces was trying to get rid of edwards or cappa after their rookie year. Can you please allow these young players to develop before you cut them? Stop the stupid please

Let Edwards play. Always nervous when Burnt Toast is our there because even when he looks like he has good coverage he still gets burnt

  21. Seattle Buc is back in TB Says:

    He’s better than Tanard Jackson!

  22. Austin Says:

Our 3 safeties are top notch, definitely need to keep them. They make our defense unique. I mean who has 3 starting caliber safeties on the field at the same time? Us, that’s who

  23. Doctor Stroud Says:

The Bucs are undefeated whenever Mike Edwards gets an interception.

  24. Ash Says:

Looks like smb lost his spot

  25. Brandon Says:

I think i saw four safeties on the field at times. I said before the season that Edwards would be a starter this season but we’ve got three terrific safeties. Whitehead is in his last year of his contract. I’d love to have all three back.

  26. Wesley Says:

He should be starting over SMB!
