Chris Godwin Out For The Year

December 20th, 2021

Done.

Bucs receiver Chris Godwin has played his final game of the 2021 season and maybe his final Bucs game forever, contrary to previous reports.

Godwin, a scheduled free agent this offseason who hurt his knee last night, is out for the year with a torn ACL, Bucs Super Bowl-winning coach Bucco Bruce Arians said in his day-after presser.

    Ooooof!!!!

  2. tampabuscsbro Says:

I’m so glad the saints player was so hyped up when he went as low and hard as possible he tried to rip the ball away.

Saints are the dirties team in the league and it wouldn’t surprise me one bit if they still had a bounty program.

  3. zzbuc Says:

This is really a bad thing….
    Injuries killed us this year
    Sh*/t

  4. Cody S Says:

Bucs bro I agree . It was a blatant cheap shot and they tried doing it to gronk as well

  5. Kstoges Says:

    so miserable man

  6. Jmarkbuc Says:

    PJ Williams. Public enemy #1

  7. Bobby M. Says:

Great receiver…..but simply can’t make it through a season. He was the ultimate #2 in all aspects of the game. Hard to fill his shoes in the run game. Thankfully next man up is AB….praying he’s in game shape.

  8. tampabuscsbro Says:

Any reason why the refs always let the saints get away with these dirty hits?

I don’t get it. Until last year I thought brady was favored by the refs. The opposite could be true.

  9. David Says:

Damn!!! At first they said sprained MCL and will be back for the playoffs.
    This sucks!!
Any word on Evans and Fournette ?

  10. Joshua porter Says:

I really hope ab comes in with the right mindset and can take over tfor the production that we will miss from Godwin

  11. westernbuc Says:

Torn ACL’s aren’t a big deal anymore. Guy has gotten beaten up all year. Obviously this hurts us but I don’t think this should stop us from trying to keep him. He’ll be good to go for Tom’s third year. Get well Chris

  12. Marine Buc Says:

Not good. Godwin has been our most effective weapon on offense this season. I hope AB, Evans and Gronk can stay healthy because we don’t have squat beyond that…

  13. alaskabuc Says:

I don’t care what anyone says, that was an intentional dirty cheap shot, he was trying to end CG’s career. He tried doing the same sh** later in the game (think it was Gronk, but can’t recall for sure), but he missed. NFL needs to be fining some Saints

  14. David Says:

Everyone is complaining about the refs and the Saints… neither did anything wrong.
This is what the game is. You can’t go high because of targeting. Plus most DB’s can’t bring down larger players up high anyway, so they have to go low. Unless they change the rules where you can only hit from the thigh to the nipple, not sure what the defenses is supposed to do.
Don’t get me wrong, I hate the Saints and this sucks!!! but it wasn’t a dirty hit

  15. tampabuscsbro Says:

David yes they did per the rule book the saints got away with constant taunting (pre this year taunting) and managed to hold all night got away with it bad.

Also shoulder to knee isn’t dirty…really makes you think. Also dude is writhing in pain on the ground and he tried to pull the ball away.

  16. Jmarkbuc Says:

Williams did the same thing to Lenny… coincidence?

  17. Lamarcus Says:

You can’t hit high anymore so more leg shots and the entire league has lower body injury pandemic especially leg injuries. I’ve noticed more leg injuries than I ever seen before so when I watched Godwin go down it was ugly yet the new NFL. Idk the data, but I can guess because I never seen it this bad

  18. unbelievable Says:

    2003 all over again

  19. Francisco Guzman Says:

AB is good but he needs to be healthy. I think they have the weapons even with godwin out.

  20. ModHairKen Says:

Sorry tampabucsbro, the NFL rules changes have forced DBs to go low. It sucks. But I can’t get on the Saint for trying to avoid a penalty.

As for this being his last play, if Licht lets him leave or tries to discount him because of this, that would be a lousy thing to do.

  21. Medicated Pete Says:

Season over cuz Mike Evans can’t get open

  22. Chris in Gainesville Says:

Soooo many low hits last night. Makes you wonder if saints were trying to take players out to improve their last hope efforts to make playoffs.

  23. tampabuscsbro Says:

Modhair why did the same hit happen on Fournette. It’s just odd suddenly I’ve never seen DBs try to go for the knee like this before tonight.

    But what do I know.

  24. Francisco Guzman Says:

Scotty Miller, AB, Evans, Gronk. That’s fine.

  25. Bucamania Says:

PJ Williams was knee hunting all game. Tried to get Gronk too. League needs to go after him.

  26. Wesley Says:

This is why we have A.B..

  27. Gregg Williams 2.0 Says:

It’s pretty obvious Saints went back to their bountygate tactics last night. The statistical odds of having 3 of your key offensive weapons all go down in the same game is just not there. Hope you’re poking around on this, Joe. They’re a dirty city and a dirty team.

  28. Francisco Guzman Says:

The season is not over folks. They still have enough weapons to get to a super bowl.

  29. adam from ny Says:

tom plays scared vs the saints for a reason…

because at any moment payton can order up a dirty hit, so a player finds big bands of cash stuffed in his cleats the next day in the saints locker room…

yes they took godwin’s knee out last night…

brady still has nightmares about when his knee was taken out about 15 years ago…

payton is like the godfather of the nfc south and brady fears his wrath, and plays like it every time he plays the saints…

we might just see them again this year in the playoffs…and tom and the boys will not lose a third time in a row to them…

shades of last season might just come into play again…

    #ThirdTimesAyeCharm

  30. Francisco Guzman Says:

They really need that second seed though. They gotta hope the rams lose another game and they win out. Get that second seed.

  31. Leighroy Says:

Who were these sources swearing up and down that it was just a sprained MCL, and what bs sheet of music were they singing from?!

  32. Mad Mark Says:

Almost like pay back or Karma… (for Winston’s knee).

  33. tampabuscsbro Says:

I mean as we all know the saints are one of the low key dirtiest teams in the league.

Who is to say they don’t have a bounty program again.

  34. Biff Barker Says:

    Medicated Pete Says:

Season over cuz Mike Evans can’t get open

Time to give it a rest Pete. Since you feel that strongly, go carry a sign on Dale Mabry.

  35. Bucsfanman Says:

    Get well soon Chris!

  36. Francisco Guzman Says:

adam from ny the saints are not not making the playoffs. They only look good against us. Other teams make them look bad. It shows you how pathetic the bucs are mentally against that team.

  37. PassingThru Says:

    Shirt sleeves.

I thought and hoped that it was just an MCL sprain.

This definitely impacts the Bucs postseason. Fortunately Antonio Brown is coming back. Godwin is fantastic at moving the chains, he impacts the running game as well as he’s a great-blocking WR.

I figure he’ll be out rehabbing that knee for a good part of next season as well.

  38. Francisco Guzman Says:

Bucs need to beat the panthers next sunday. It’s a must win game. The last thing you want is to be the 4th seed.

  39. BradentuckeyBuc Says:

Kneehunting all game as revenge for Americas crab leg stealing, crotch grabbing backup qb.

  40. Joe Says:

Soooo many low hits last night.

To Joe this is just good, fundamental tackling. When coaches used to coach and teach tackling and wrapping up, not arm-tackling, blowing guys up or grabbing for the football, tackling was always taught “lower the better.”

Joe has no issue at all with the hit on Godwin. If refs start throwing flags for going low and going high, you are going to need to watch NFL games on DVR so you can fast-forward through all the penalties.

  41. PassingThru Says:

The Saints weren’t playing dirty per the rule book, but they were doing their best to physically maul the Bucs players. Tackers tend not to go for the knees; for one it prevents getting kicked/kneed to the head, and there’s an unspoken rule that you don’t try to destroy a player’s future contract or paycheck. I think payback was on their minds.

  42. PassingThru Says:

Well on a cynical note, it will now be easier to re-sign Godwin to a multi-year contract.

  43. Im not tired anymore we Super Bowl Champs!! Says:

He needs to be resigned by the Bucs in the off-season. Best player on the team in my opinion. This kills our super bowl chance. Go Bucs! Sucks even more today.

  44. Francisco Guzman Says:

This doesn’t killed their chances. No way. They still have weapons. AB will step up his game. Also scotty miller can do his thing as well. They have weapons.

  45. Francisco Guzman Says:

Right now the weak spot is this coaching staff . Seriously they don’t know how to make in games adjustments to anything.

  46. Listnfrmafar Says:

That sucks Godwin was a baller. Kinda wished Bucs DB’s hit like that. Though that’s how we use to do it when we wanted to take a player out but then it was legal to be intentional.

  47. Sumosam Says:

They clearly went after knees last night. Any team could do that if they chose too. It’s dirty no matter how you look at it.

  48. Lokog Says:

The aints owner is still dead he’s in hell right now

  49. ElioT Says:

This is on Leftwich and Brady for constantly putting Godwin in extremely tough situations.

Went to the well too many times.

Godwin is a beast but he’s not invincible.

  50. Bucamania Says:

I’d would’ve thought the Bucs players would fight back last night… but nope.

  51. Bucfan81 Says:

Well the season is most likely over. Too many injuries this year. Now we have to see if Tom will give it a go for another season or if we are about to blow the whole roster up and start over.

  52. Francisco Guzman Says:

Bucfan81 yes let’s just quit the season lol. Season over. We still have enough weapons to get to the super bowl. If they win out they will get that second seed.

  53. crazybucs_CL Says:

Sad/mad, wow, CG was used unfairly on play calling….it was matter of time… I know the injury are part of this game… but you become prone to bad stuff/injury when they through you over and over in front of “the buss”.
Great WR, great player, will be missed, wish a speedy recovery, and hope to remain a Bucs.

  54. Sampson Says:

Knew it! Same exact thing that happened to me when I tore mine. You are able to walk after a torn ACL if you are in good shape. Doesn’t mean you are ok. He is done for the season and part of next season as well. Recovery is 9 months to a year and sometimes you never recover. Very very bad news.

  55. Sampson Says:

Literally looked at my wife and said” that’s his ACL he is done.”

  56. Thomas Edrington Says:

Captain, there’s nothing to worry about, it was just a small iceberg………first officer on the Titanic…

  57. Listnfrmafar Says:

The poor guy got hurt doing his job, no one hung him out to dry, when he went down Brady immediately ran to him to see how he was. Anyone that blames this on a QB or coach is a total idiot.

  58. unbelievable Says:

Brady literally talked at the beginning of the season how it’s on the QB not to put his WRs into bad hits like that…

But then he got hit himself and got scared…

The blueprint to beat us is out there: 2 high safeties and hit Brady early. Simple as that. For reference, please see the following games: LA, New England, Washington, New Orleans

  59. Bird Says:

Ahhhhhh. Sick to my stomach. I hope he is back with bucs next year. Dude wanted to get back on field too. He is a warrior. His wife is a trainer. Pretty hot too

Julian Edelman. Please come out of retirement. He played slot. Not standard slot that arians likes that can block but why not give a flyer.

    Or play
Gronk in slot so he has a db

    Man this sucks

  60. captivajim Says:

someone mentioned above that they were trying to do it to Gronk also–I agree .. I think that’s why Gronk was being cautious…

reminder of their Bounty program ….??

  61. Mike Johnson Says:

Tough loss guys. Godwin is the man. He makes clutch catches cross the middle and everywhere else. Get well dude.

  62. Ed Says:

I think Chris will come back and still be a baller. He may lose some of his quickness and ability to break tackles but he still has a good shot at having a good career. He plays like Hines Ward but he doesn’t have the body type to take the pounding. These taller receivers are taken advantage of when they go over the middle and get into traffic.

Thats why guys like Julian Edelman and Wes Welker were able to run those slot routes and play for a long time. They were compact enough that they didn’t go up high for catches and kept their legs from getting exposed.

My heart goes out to Chris and his family. I really hope he comes back strong, he plays like a lion but doesn’t have the build to take the heavy fire from having 2 or 3 guys hitting him when he gets the ball.

So wierd at the game that former Buc Horace “Hi C” Copeland spoke at halftime. Remember what a great prospect he was until he went down in a preseason game. Never forget him outrunning Deon Sanders and beating him a couple of times when Sanders was a Falcon. Always thought he could have been an exceptional receiver but lost his speed after injury.

  63. Eddie Marz Says:

That’s why Brady cursed out their coach. He was taunting. He should have been flagged.

  64. Colonel Angus Says:

I see the defeatists are out in force. Thank God none of you sissies are commanding troops. AB can fill in for Godwin. Just have to win 1 of these next 3 to take the south. I reckon we’ll take all 3, secure that 2 seed and have a NFC Conference Championship rematch in Green Bay.

  65. Buczilla Says:

Gosh damn it. This blows, but the hit was legal. We have more than enough offensive talent to make another super bowl run if our line and coaches get their acts together. If we can’t come back strong after being humiliated, then we don’t deserve to go to the playoffs. Wake the F up offense.

  66. bucschamp Says:

I hope he heals well and fast. and hopefully bucs sign him after this season?

  67. MadMax Says:

I fn hate the saints so much more now….paybacks a btch mfr!!!!!

  68. MadMax Says:

Kind of ironic how Kamara and Karma are so similar….

  69. 4eva_i_luv_tampabay Says:

Anyone have Larry Fitzgerald number I think Tom should call him

  70. Pewter Power Says:

    He’ll be back

  71. gp Says:

  72. Anonymous Says:

    Time for Elderman to sign

  73. Man Child Says:

That was def retaliation for Jameis. They can say whatever they want but they tackled like that all night.

  74. Bucwatchingnut Says:

“Joe has no issue at all with the hit on Godwin. If refs start throwing flags for going low and going high, you are going to need to watch NFL games on DVR so you can fast-forward through all the penalties.”

Easy to say tapping on a keyboard for a living. If your livelihood depended on avoiding career ending tackles you might be willing to give up the inconvenience of a few extra yellow flags per game. Even game commentator Cris Collinsworth thought it was a dirty shot and considered a receiver at that point in the play a defenseless player. That was an intential direct shot to Godwin’s knee. That’s not football, that’s assualt.

You’ll read/see here later Derrick Brooks calling it a clean hit. It’s not about Joe’s profession. It’s about the game, which is inherently dangerous.–Joe

  75. Bretzky Says:

Hope to see the Aints in the playoffs and ending their season like last year. #bestrevenge

  76. View from 132 Says:

The season is over. The run is over. The free agents are already shopping for new teams. The whole thing was fun, but this is not an injury you recover from with this offense. The Saints clearly intended to end the Bucs season and this is Bountygate all over again. Sean Payton should be banned for life.
