And So It Begins

December 26th, 2021

Interviewing.

Joe would not be shocked whatsoever if the Bucs coaching staff looks far different next year than it does currently.

Why? Because Joe is guessing Byron Leftwich might get a head coaching job and raid the current staff of assistants.

But wait Joe, what about Todd Bowles?

Joe always had a hunch that Team Glazer has a succession plan in place for when Bucs Super Bowl-winning coach Bucco Bruce Arians hangs it up, and that plan was/is to have defensive coordinator Todd Bowles in place as a coach-in-waiting.

Well, that may be wishful thinking. Heavy metal headbanging Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports the Raiders are planning to bring in Bowles for an interview to replace Chucky.

Apparently, Raiders shot-caller Mark Davis wants to fix the defense and bring a calming influence to the organization. That sounds like Bowles.

Late last season, Bowles signed a three-year extension. Joe is guessing Team Glazer is making Bowles’ time worth it if he signed an extension. But if Davis is going to throw stupid money around like he did to Chucky ($10 million a year?), Bowles would be out of his mind to turn down that kind of cash.

I wouldn’t mind Byron leaving, some new blood might help

  2. Cobraboy Says:

Working for that Davis weirdo would have to be only for $$$ and not because a solid, mature organization has a long-term plan.

Unlike many other “I wannabe a HC’s”, I never thought Bowles was about the money.

  3. Bird Says:

Lets get thru the this season first. Got to get guys healtty. Even if we win 2 out of 3 and get guys healthy, we look tough in playoffs.
    Just no saints please 😂
Unfortunately…we have not been healthy literally this entire year …when last year we were

Most talented overall team we have ever had in buc history IMO

  4. Buc50 Says:

I’m ok with losing Leftwich but losing Bowles would be very bad. He deserves another shot though.

  5. SOEbuc Says:

I think there might have been a deal set up with Bowles and the Bucs to take over at HC after the extension. Did they think Leftwich and BA would be hear next year, especially when BA does jack-sh** and Leftwich has been a hot topic for a HC job for two years.

    HC=Bowles
    DC=Bowles choice
    OC=Clyde Christiansen

Idiots think the Bucs have a bad coaching squad. Guess they didn’t watch Super Bowl LV. Bad coaching??? I guess the so called fans hadn’t watched the coaching since 2007.

  6. Listnfrmafar Says:

Ya, how did his last stint go?

  7. Rob In Land O Lakes Says:

“Ya, how did his last stint go?”

    List,

With the crap show front office the Jets had, I’m pretty sure that the League is giving him a pass on that one.

  8. Rayjay1122 Says:

So, BL leaves and maybe we promote Clyde Christensen to OC. We go from 100 coaches to 99. Big deal.

  9. BucsFanSince1976 Says:

Offer TB12 2% ownership share to sign a 4 year extension plus 20 million a year , because without TB12 you are looking at a tough road to hoe.

  10. Adrnagy Says:

    Dont matter ..

Bryon and todd can leave anytime. They can take bruce with them.

Ronde for head coach. ! Larry foote def coor and tom moore oc. Lol

  11. Adrnagy Says:

We all know. At least those who dont drink toilet water, we won last year we win this year because TOM BRADY.

  12. Joe Says:

Ya, how did his last stint go?

Joe heard this from an NFL GM a couple of years ago:

“No one in the NFL is holding the Jets against Bowles because the GM he worked for was such a joke.”

  13. adam from ny Says:

    Bowling for dollars ???

going to a shantytown team for a few more beans and duties isn’t always the answer

  14. Ben green Says:

For Brady’s sake, I hope all three are gone next year. Arians has become a joke with his Darth Vader battery pack, and obviously ammonia brain. He needs a cart to get around practice. Leftwit was a prime reason for the slow start last year, and his inability to be unpredictable cost the bucs home field. With the injury situation looking grim, an extra week is probably the difference between going to another superbowl. Ben never thought much of bowels either. Talk about someone who knows nothing about it complementary football. The bucs have, or had, the best offense in football. Your defense should be a compliment to that. GTFB is what my master always preached, cuz he knew Tommy would get us to atleat 28 most days. Everyone will point to injury if they don’t win, and it’s valid, but the three stooges played a big role

  15. #1bucsfan Says:

Don’t get all the leftwich hate. None of you can call a game in peewee football let alone the NFL. Even before Brady got here with some of his weapons leftwich still had us with one of the top scoring offense in the league. SMH.

  16. Bojim Says:

OK with BL leaving. He calls run plays when we should pass and pass plays when we should run.

  17. ATrain 28 Says:

Would be shocked if Bowles left this off-season. His son is a senior at Jesuit next year.

  18. Jersey buc Says:

    BP clear covid for today?

  19. Adrnagy Says:

Tampa Bay Buccaneers receiver Breshad Perriman (reserve/COVID) will not play in Week 16 against the Carolina Panthers.

  20. Defense Rules Says:

Ben Green … ‘For Brady’s sake, I hope all three are gone next year.’

No problem Ben, Brady won’t be here next year. He can see the writing on the wall as clearly as anyone. 44-year-old QBs perform very well when protected & when surrounded by the best weapons in the NFL, but once that changes (like next year?), TB12 will have no desire to take a pounding game after game (like he did against New Orleans?).

  21. BuucccNASTY Says:

Bowels must stay, if we lose everything else he must stay.. we need to keep some piece of this winning culture when Ariana and Tom retire along with multiple players leaving for fat checks..

  22. Jmarkbuc Says:

How this roster shakes out for next year is gonna be a huge factor for any coach/GM

  23. gotbbucs Says:

What is it that makes anyone think that Byron Leftwich is a viable NFL Head Coaching candidate? As soon as his name got mentioned for the Jaguars job he went out and coached his team to a shutout against a division rival with literally everything on the line for playoff seeding.

He’s a puppet running someone else’s offense with Tom Brady at QB and a ridiculous amount of talent at the recieving positions, and still they somehow make picking up first downs when they matter look hard. There’s nothing innovative about our play designs. It’s Godwin, Evans, and Gronk working their butts off in 1v1’s and Brady throwing into tight windows.

  24. Listnfrmafar Says:

Joe, if NO ONE in the NFL held it against him, then why didn’t he get hired last season when there were plenty of openings? Wasn’t the D better last year?

  25. FairMinded Says:

Funny that 10 mil is considered high for a head coach.

  26. Anonymous Says:

I love how keyboard experts who can’t even manage fries at Mickey D)s have such harsh critiques of Super Bowl winning coaches at the highest level of football. It’s one thing to not like the coaches plays, but to label them as incompetent when they have not only reached the highest levels of their profession but won, it’s clear it’s not about football. There are other reasons you don’t think they deserve to be head coaches and it’s as clear as day. Unfortunately for you, you are on the wrong side of history and no amount of made up criticism will prevent them from getting the opportunities they have more than earned.

  27. Jordan Says:

I really doubt Bowles has any interest going to an organization with as much disfunction as the Raiders after already having been with the Jets.

If we offer the Bucs job to him, he would definitely take it in my opinion, but I really doubt Arians is retiring if Brady keeps playing.

  28. TombsEN Says:

It’s crazy how when the Bucs do great it’s TB, but when they do bad it’s the coaches…I see why Sapp said this is the dumbest fan base in the NFL

  29. TombsEN Says:

  30. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

The Bucs are a very very talented team, so before we get all giddy about Bowles, let’s all remember how he did with the Jets, a team w/o all our talent.
He fell flat on his face in New York, even earning the name “Toilet Bowls” and they were glad to get rid of him.
Hell, Richard Sherman had to come to Tampa, and teach how to coach the secondary.
If the Raiders want him, I think we will be just as good, if not better w/o him.
I can’t even count all the time his stupid all out blitzes left our secondary exposed, and cost us games.

  31. Listnfrmafar Says:

Tomb, Brady gets accolades when they win and he is trashed when they lose. No matter in either case if it’s warranted or not.

  32. Colin in Canada Says:

Leftwich would be smart to take the Jags job if offered.

  33. SlyPirate Says:

The Raiders job would be amazing. If they offer it to Bowles, he should jump at the chance. The Bucs have had a nice 2 years with TB12 but the Raider’s Nation is awesome. It’s a premier HC job … no offense to the Bucs.

  34. Joe Says:

Joe, if NO ONE in the NFL held it against him, then why didn’t he get hired last season when there were plenty of openings?

He pulled himself out of the running for a couple (Detroit being one) when Team Glazer floated him a raise.

Think you are confusing “don’t hold it against him” with “guaranteeing him a job.”

  35. Joe Says:

The Raiders job would be amazing.

The Raiders job is attractive. The most important thing to have in place for a new coach is a quarterback. They have one.

Nice place to live, no taxes. Decent nucleus of players. An owner willing to spend cash. There is a lot of interest in the Raiders gig.

  36. David Says:

I don’t think they let Bowles go. I don’t think Bowles wants to go. I think he’s going to take over for BA within the next two years. As for BL… I think it would work great with Bowles running the defense and playing HC and leaving BL in charge of the offense.
Kind of like Chucky and Monte Kiffin back in the day.

It depends if BL aspires to be a head coach. I don’t really think he does at this point. He had to be talked into being the OC. And he’s getting better and better

  37. David Says:

Chris…. And Belichick fell on his face in Cleveland his first chance at head coaching as well. Bowles first shot as a head coach means nothing.
You live and you learn. Personally I see Bowles running the D as HC and BL running the O after BA retires.
I don’t think BL wants to takeoff and be a head coach right now.
Bowles might unless he’s promised to be head coach within a year or two
