Another Try For The Bucs’ Critical Threesome

December 26th, 2021

Cornerback Sean Murphy-Bunting

Today, finally, the Buccaneers’ starting three cornerbacks — Jamel Dean, Carlton Davis and Sean Murphy-Bunting — will be back on the field together.

Perhaps they can even make it through the entire game!

It happened when the Bucs choked out Atlanta this month, but Davis was still getting his legs under him after many weeks sidelined with a quad injury. Then against Buffalo the following Sunday, Dean was knocked out with a concussion and the Bucs defense quickly fell apart and coughed up a big lead.

Now, Dean is back healthy after missing last Sunday’s game, Davis has his legs under him, and Murphy-Bunting is playing pretty well.

Today, Joe and every other Bucs fans will get to see what it’s really supposed to look like at cornerback for Tampa Bay. Joe is so over watching Ross Cockrell, Pierre Desir and Richard Sherman.

If the big-three can stay healthy today, Joe suspects the Panthers will at best limp their way to 14 points.

“If the big-three can stay healthy today, Joe suspects the Panthers will at best limp their way to 14 points.”

Does that 14 points account for the offense giving up the football on their own side of the field?

The gravediggers should be back by the playoffs!

    Amen.

I would like to see this team use the next three weeks to change its identity and really focus on executing in the running game. I don’t want to see us try to throw the ball 40 times. We should look to pound the run 30+times for the next three weeks if we can get to the playoffs with the ability to run the ball effectively and get ME13 back and Lenny. It would make us a much more dangerous team to play. Especially against playoff teams with better defenses.

  6. BigPoppaBuc Says:

Also the return of Mike Edwards. I think the defense dominates today while the offense breaks in their new boots.

  7. Kentucky Buc Says:

Dean 3plays and out with a woozy knee.

Amen to that. This is a golden opportunity for Rojo and Vaughn to show their worth and keep Leveon Bell on the bench, at least until he’s in football shape or Lenny is good to go in the playoffs.

Good to see our 3 guys back together, and someone asked me what will happen to Pierre Desir now ?
LOL, with a name like Pierre Desir, he may want to consider selling cologne ?

  10. Listnfrmafar Says:

Yippee, at least it’s against Cam Newton.

  11. Steve fan Says:

We saw a double reverse last night executed well by the Colts and Bill Beliceck is usually down for one trick play with the PATS. On the other hand, the Bucs don’t have anything like it in their unimaginative plays repetoire. Against the Saints they might have tried anything different. What the heck did they have to lose?

  12. Steve fan Says:

Inconsistency in a team leads one to question the Coaching staff.

  13. Steven007 Says:

Love that are starting trio is back but Desir has actually played decently the past few games. Two picks in the last three I believe.

  14. Kentucky Buc Says:

    Cluelessness running rampant.

  15. McBuc Says:

So 10 and 4 with the number one offense and you guys don’t think the okay calling is good. Sometimes the other team has a better day. Even all the great years for Brady in NE they would drop games against the Dolphins and Jets. All. gal teams can beat each other on any given Sunday. Question the coaching staff on a 10-4 team. Lol

  16. Don’t make a scene 35 Says:

Well is it me, or is this Buc defense quietly but steadily looking more and more like what we saw late last year ?
    I think so
    Go Bucs

  17. Steve fan Says:

Watching the way the Packers and Colts receivers were putting on a show last night by making impossible receptions and showing up big time made me think how the Bucs receivers looked so lackadaisical against the Saints.

  18. Cobraboy Says:

I don’t know about pounding the rock 30+ times, but I WOULD like to see a more balanced O.

Please, no more empty backfields. Stop tempting ears-pinned-back-to-get-Brady D’s. Besides, do the Bucs even have 4 effective WR’s to put on the field at the same time?

I also want to see more Packer sweeps early on to wear down the Kitties pass rush.

FACT: Pressure Brady and Bucs lose. Keep Brady upright, Bucs win. The best way to slow down the pressure is play-action, and you have to run the ball well for even that to be effective.

I am also concerned about the punting and KO coverage today. New guy as punter?

  19. Beeej Says:

There are a million plays that can be run out of a 2 back set, but we never do that

  20. Kentucky Buc Says:

False narrative on pressuring Brady. Watch the all twenty two from the Saints game and the throws under pressure and subsequent drops and horrible route running. I thought the same as many of u that Brady was off until I watched it.

  21. Listnfrmafar Says:

Beej, I totally agree. One in motion, oh wait Bucs don’t use motion.

  22. Bird Says:

Good to see. And edwards will take over for winfield so in good hands in secondary? We hope

  23. BucsBeBack (Artist formally known as: BringBucsBack) Says:

The defensive game-plan this week, like every week, is to confuse the opponents’ QB & receivers by playing 10 yards off of the line of scrimmage. It’s a psychological trick. It increases loneliness in the minds of the receivers due to all of the empty spaces that surround them. It works 0% of the time, why get away from it?

Cobra & everyone else, if Brady as QB (& a playoff mentality) isn’t enough reason to hone the run-game, last week’s turn of events should have been EVERY reason to establish the run but, THEY DIDN’T!! Everyone outside of the Bucs’ offense are the ones talking about running the ball more! I think we fans are deluding ourselves if we think that they will run the ball more now especially, with Rojo, a third string back & an aged veteran straight off of his couch!

The coaches’ arrogance have/ are costing the Bucs games!! Hope I’m wrong.

  24. Wesley Says:

    Bunting sucks.

  25. HomerSimpsonRocks Says:

How about no more 50 yard passes to shaky receivers on 3rd and 1?

  26. Cobraboy Says:

@Kentucky: which comes first, pressure or bad throws?

I watched the replay, and yes, many drops, but few of those drops were square in the breadbasket…a result of Brady having to get rid of the ball a few 1/10s faster than optimal.

Brady threw a lot of balls from awkward positions.

The Bucs won a SB last year because they pressured Brees, Rodgers and Mahomes. Those were not QB’s just having an off day with a bunch of drops and turnovers. There was a reason for the drops and turnovers.

Look at stats: no matter how great the QB in a game, the team with the most disproportionate # of sacks, QB hits and pressure wins 90+% of the time. Even against great QB’s.

Peyton has it 100% correct: put a lot of pressure on Brady and you will win.

  27. dmatt Says:

Folks, Jamel Dean is not what some think he is. With his speed n size he should be an aggressive beast mode player. He’s passive n often after making a pop Warner tackle, he looks up at his teammates n the sideline as if he’s saying “did I do ok coach”? I’ve watched packers, colts, titans, browns,saints,49ers, n cardinals n each secondary attacked n played aggressive the entire game. They all tacked with violence. JDean look surprised the times he had an int. He hasn’t impressed me.

I hope they draft heavy on DB this spring. And a RB or two.

  29. Rayjay1122 Says:

My nuts are still sore from last week. Not as excited about the rest of the season. Our team is so soft it is crazy in regards to injuries coupled with such a poor effort all around. They had better look much better today regardless of what slappys they run out on the field. No more excuses, defending Champs!!!

  30. sasquatch Says:

Carolina may look like easy picking but the Bucs haven’t played a complete game in how long? And they’ve been awful for the last 6 quarters. Going in without starting receivers and RB. No Lavonte. No Winfield. I’d love to think they’re still up to beating on the Kitties, but I fear this game is going to be another struggle.

  31. adam from ny Says:

    them boys should be okay…

    hopefully lol

  32. David Says:

They made it through injury free and played damn good!!

When you watch the games and key on Davis… He is a top 7 cornerback in the NFL.
