Did Something Happen Over The Weekend That Threw Off The Bucs?

November 14th, 2021

Stunning admission.

Strange comment from Bucs Super Bowl-winning coach Bucco Bruce Arians after the game today.

Arians spoke on the Buccaneers Radio Network and was asked if maybe the Bucs needed to ramp up things in practice a little bit to prepare for Giants, who come to town next week.

Arians quickly made it clear practice — at least for the bulk of last week — was not the issue.

“Well, we can’t practice any harder or better than we did Monday through Friday,” Arians said. “So it’s the 48 hours from the last practice to kickoff where we have to find the energy and the passion to play in this league.”

Whoa!!! That is very, very revealing and pretty much confirms what game analyst Dave Moore said on the Buccaneers Radio Network in the waning moments of today’s game.

Moore said he could see the body language of the Bucs screamed they thought they had the game in the bag before kickoff. Moore said his fears were realized by how sloppy the team played in the first quarter.

Arians pretty much confirmed what Moore said.

If players have problems getting up for a game and getting motivated and playing with energy, and they continue to commit dumb penalties, perhaps the Bucs have a collective head issue? Might the Bucs need a team shrink?

It almost sounds to Joe like these guys are sort of believing since they are the defending Super Bowl champs, all they have to do is walk on the field and lesser teams will kneel before them and beg for mercy.

That ain’t the NFL.

  1. BradyBucs Says:

    They lack DISCIPLINE.

    That’s a coaching failure.

  2. PassingThru Says:

It’s hubris, it was noticeable from Week One against Dallas. Arians can make all the exhortations he wants about penalties, or throw players under the bus, but it doesn’t matter. The team seems to have tuned Arians out.

  3. BuccaneerButters Says:

We need a wake up call. We thought the Saints were it. I heard all week, how upset the boys were about the Saints game. Is this it? Is this the wake up call? I sure hope so, cuz the Giants have played us very hard lately. We need to absolutely stomp them. No mercy.

  4. Leighroy Says:

Motivation and energy doesn’t fix bad coverage or throw the ball past 6 yards.

I think these coaches are game planning like they can just lineup and run over teams bc we have Brady and elite talent. But it’s the NFL, any given Sunday, etc. and the lack of creative game plans is killing us.

I’d like to think they’re saving the creativity for later in the year, but if they’re not careful they’ll dig themselves too much of a hole and be fighting our way on the road after the wild card round as the 4 seed.

  5. August 1976 Buc Says:

This is on the players, Bruce can say whatever he wants to the players, but you cannot feed someone who is full, I mean a lack of hunger is just crazy. You cannot come out as a team all fat and happy, just show up and win. D White showed big today but what about the team.
And it has not been Vintage Brady the last 2 head scratching games from him.

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  6. Francisco Guzman Says:

Bowles is a tad overrated and this defense makes average QBs look great. Giants are gonna put 40 on this team if they don’t fix that defense.

  7. Bucnjim Says:

All you have to do is look around the league at the amount of upsets the past two weeks. It’s not coaching it’s human nature. These one loss or two loss teams start to lack aggression and that’s when mistakes happen. That last drive really pissed me off but I get it!

  8. Gbobucsfan Says:

Is Shaq Barrett still on our team ??

  9. Kentucky Buc Says:

You can blame anything u want. The facts are u let a busboy complete over 80% on u. Your not beating many teams like that. At the rate they’re going Brady has to be dam near perfect and he hasn’t been.

  10. Pewter Power Says:

Excuses will be plenty. When has a Brady led team assumed a victory before kickoff? This defense is embarrassing and they are clearly holding something back as if the extra game is something in their heads. This is the strangest season I’ve seen in a long time

But hey at least shaq got his money😒

  11. ClwJB Says:

False start on the first play of the game

Turnovers on 2nd and 3rd series – Bucs D drop 3 pics in first half alone

Back to back 3rd Down DL encroachment penalties in the ensuing drive that leads to TD

Complete lack of focus and attention to detail

Reminds me of the 6-2 to 7-5 run last year – maybe they need it to light the fire??

  12. firethecannons Says:

I certainly am concerned we will lose to the giants at this point

  13. Francisco Guzman Says:

I think JPP injury is hurting the DL.

  14. alton d green Says:

been watching for almost 60 yrs. How in the Hell do you come off a bye and have a pre-snap penalty on the first frickn play????????????Jumping off sides constantly. A lot of you guys talked all week about the Bucs using wft. I reminded all of you about last year how heineky carved us up like a Christmas turkey and look what happened. My friends it is not a coincidence that hiney completed over 80% on his 2 games against the Bucs. And BTW I can remember at least 4 of Brady’s int’s this year was not his fault

  15. Rayjay1122 Says:

What they need to believe is that they are a 6 win team. Do not think 6 wins will make it to the post season.

  16. Zwak Says:

Shaq Barrett? He got paid and retired, still wears our uniforms but rarely puts in any effort..

  17. alton d green Says:

1 more thing. Thank God for the Tn. Titans. One of my first managers and his daughter are season ticket holders in Nashville. They were at the game. I called him and thanked the Titans hahaa. Now if the WFT gets beat by 50 points next week, will Todd finally go to a flea market and get us a secondary

  18. Marine Buc Says:

I know DC has pretty awesome strip clubs – as does Tampa…

Who knows… This game was similar to the loss at Chicago last year. We were flat and our offense (Brady included) sucked for most of the game.

  19. Francisco Guzman Says:

Zwak i would have never given him that contract.

  20. JGhotier Says:

Everybody that knows the Bucs intimately could see they looked lethargic and disinterested (minus Devin White) to even begin the game, not just Dave Moore. It was the first thing I noticed and it was blatantly obvious (and I was baffled thinking as to why….especially after the Saints loss AND it marinating for 2 weeks).

Today was inexcusable and an absolute embarrassment. Every. Single. Aspect of it.

This coming from a more optimistic Bucs fan more so than the pessimistic type too. But I’m also a realist and will state both good and bad when I think or believe it to be.

  21. JGhotier Says:

…losing is one thing. Whatever today was is a completely different thing ^^^

  22. Zwak Says:

    Agreed Sir!

  23. alton d green Says:

Why did they allow the WFT to have 22 players on the field? The Bucs beat themselves like a horny 13 yr. old

  24. Allbuccedup Says:

Brady is the difference when he goes, back to bottom feeders.

  25. D-Rome Says:

Your last paragraph sums up what I have seen on the field for the past 2 games.

  26. Sumosam Says:

I knew from the second snap oh, that this team was not going to win. They were not fired up not ready to go. That’s a coaching problem. It needs to be remedied now or this season is toast.

  27. 163Doubleplay Says:

Where are the pass rushers when you need them the most. Heinecki has enough time out there to text his wife about dinner. No wonder Shaq was traded by Broncos to the bucs. Signs a multi million contract and then disappears.

  28. Greg Says:

Agree with previous posters. Shaq’s uniform was out there but was that a team trainer inside? Anthony friggin Nelson made more plays than that imposter made.

  29. DBS Says:

I am sorry. I was no Jameis fan. But he could play with Brate, Evans and Godwin. and put points on the board. Why can’t Brady? He is lost with out AB and Gronk? This along with the defense is unbelievable.

  30. JGhotier Says:

The majority of our “pass-rush” is far too predicated on bull rushes from the entire defensive line, instead of actual pass-rushing moves. Minus Vita Vea (as his bull-rushes are at least effective) the rest of pass-rush and D-Line needs to create more chaos and unpredictability in the pocket rather than almost purely bull-rushing in a straight line.

@163Doubieplay – Shaq wasn’t “traded” by the Broncos, he was an inexpensive Free Agent signing when we procured him a few years ago

  31. Listnfrmafar Says:

I doubt Brady wasn’t prepared, he may be seeing g what Moore is, the team and coaching staff doesn’t have the wear with all to win. If this doesn’t change Brady may call it quits. I doubt he will return to a team that doesn’t have the desire to win.

  32. PassingThru Says:

    Bruce Arians is an idiot:

Bucs coach Bruce Arians on the 2 INTs by Tom Brady Sunday. “That had nothing to do with receivers, it was him,” he said. One clearly bounced off Jaelon Darden’s hands.

That’s from Rick Stroud’s twitter account. No wonder BA is losing this team.

  33. Marine Buc Says:

It’s a very disappointing performance but keep in mind – we were 7-5 last year before we went our run to the SB.

The reason we are having trouble getting pressure on the QB is because we have a very weak defensive backfield right now. We have no choice but to keep our safties back in coverage and rush only four on most plays…

We still have eight weeks lest and New Orleans also lost today.

  34. Marine Buc Says:

    *left not lest

  35. captiva jim Says:

the team Has tuned out BA because he’s not driving discipline …. he lets injured players (GRONK ) play when they want to …….he’s become a talk show coach…..

  36. Hodad Says:

These old dogs are out of tricks. Father time is undefeated. We looked old, and punchless the last two games. The game plans have been looking just as old, and punchless. This team needs an infusion of some juice, not prune juice.

  37. mark2001 Says:

Saw it coming after we lost the NO game. And no one knows when the calvary will arrive. No surprise it is going this way…but very sad. Next year changing of the guard.

  38. mark2001 Says:

Wake up call? How many starting clutch starters are on the field to hear it? This starting roster is ravaged with injury, and no real timetable for recovery. The few the real stars left are stepping up as best they can…the all talk guys are disappearing on the field and mentally checking out. And it likely isn’t going to be very pretty.

  39. David Says:

Exactly right. This is the last two games now where they think they’re showing up and will find away. They need to come out and take the damn game at the start. You would think after the Saints game and a bye week they would’ve been ready but maybe this will be the wake up call they need

  40. mark2001 Says:

No comparison between last year and this year. We are riddled with injuries. Opponents are picking apart this defense. Guys were building and starting to click in this system. None of those things are true this year. Our division is weaker, but if we don’t get healthy soon, every game will be on the road, should we make the playoffs… in packed stands, when the noise and weather will likely as they were a couple years ago. And in case one hasn’t noticed, we have a heck of a time on the road in loud stadiums this year.

  41. unbelievable Says:

    They’re soft.

    Simple as that.

  42. Izod Says:

I’m sorry, but this wasn’t a 1-game aberration. Other than against a handful of patsies that we played this year, this team hasn’t put any good teams away this year…. and hasn’t played anywhere near its talent level.

  43. Listnfrmafar Says:

Dallas leading their division, Patriots one game out of leading their division, didn’t Miami beat up on a good team last week?

  44. Crickett Baker Says:

I tried to get it out of my head, but that game reminded me of the Succaneers, Even an extra point was missed after a TD
    — along with so much other missed stuff..

  45. Bucsfan4life Says:

Well , two ways of looking at it. You can look at the season and say , well . If you give me Tom Brady a minute n half and 2 timeouts to just get in FG range. I’ll take that 9/10 times. He made a mistake vs Saints that happens. Today, I know if the defense just made one stop and got us the ball back we were gonna go down n score. We are literally 2 possessions from being 8-1.

That said the media OVERRATES us 24-7!! I wish to God theyd stop!! It’s why part of me is relieved we lost to a 2-6 team. Desperate wake up call to our locker room n the media!!

Today the final play hurt most. Cus right now our biggest issue is injuries. Starting with the defense ..We need Carlton Davis to man opposing #1’s! We need SMB and Sherman who got hurt in pregame to return!! I don’t have faith any of these guys will be back! Upfront we’ve lost Vita but we can plug Nacho in there and at least be serviceable but Vea and a broken JPP .. our Dline is up against it.

Now offensively, we NEED SPEED n QUICKNESS at WR we have NONE of it!!! We had S Miller last year making BIG plays, he’s been out. Even without AB Scotty provided that element. So were stuck with big bodied guys one of whom is playing on a bad foot. We NEED Gronk , AB as soon as possible or even Scooter to get back in there. They are needed if we want to ever be the passing threat everyone believes we are.

Now my last n final point. This team NEEDS to stop watching TV! Stop worrying about power rankings, mvp stats, 30 pt game streaks etc.. cus this team’s best bet is to be BUILT AROUND THE RUN , especially Leonard Fournette!!!! If you go back to the Winston days , when we run close to 30 or more times WE WIN!!! Plain n simple facts do not lie. Also look at last years 4 games in postseason..What style did we play? We relied on our TOP 5 RUN BLOCKING LINE and a stud back who was a #4 overall pick !!! Idk how you play that way for a month to win the Lombardi and go back to throwing your way to a title. Folks, only the 99’ Rams threw their way to a SB.. everyone else used run game n defense. Run games help defenses but also can OPEN the passing game especially when you don’t have separation type WRs!!! I’m not saying to run on every 1st down or every down under 4 yrds.. definitely mix it up.. but let the BIG NASTY Oline n a stud in Fournette who gets BETTER as he gets carries.. let them keep D fresh n off the field and by 4th QTR the opposition’s gonna fold. It happens 99% time when a team pounds on a D all game long!! I’m telling you give LF 18-20+ carries, Rojo /Gio 10-12 n call it with some creativity and watch what happens. Fournette gets better n better the more touches. He’s playing inspired for a contract and looks better than when he lead Jax to AFC title game.
Run game also travels well come January.. Id like to see the Brady 23/31 255/260 3 TD line and 30-158 on the ground . With a 35/25 TOP..That formula will win and it’s best served NOW!!

  46. Christos Says:

Agree with the last paragraph Joe. This team looks like they believe they ll win the game just by showing up. In many games especially on Defense. The words about last year was last year are just words. I get it that they have multiple injuries but that is no excuse for your effort and your focus. Yesterday was a prime example of no passion no effort. The opposing QBs are playing one of their best games against this Defense except only Fields. Again Heinecke yesterday played his best game this season and with a WFT struggling both in Offense and Defense. Mind boggling and embarassing. It doenst look like that will change anytime soon and with the loss of Vea. Hope i m wrong. But even in the wins these signs where there. Go Bucs

  47. Tony Says:

Even Stevie Wonder Ray Charles & Helen Keller could see that they sucked in that game. That was pathetic. Brady should be laying into this team by now. They need to have a players only meeting at some point & try to figure things out again.

  48. Eddie Marz Says:

Nothing like having Brown and Gronk back to fix this nonsense. GO BUCS!

  49. Eddie Marz Says:

Just read someone’s comment. Yeah this reminds me of the pre- Brady years.LMAO.

  50. daniel Da Man Says:

    The team as a whole has a” I don’t care ” attitude.they
Just aren’t hungry enough. Pride is AWOL with the BUCCANEERS. Bummer. Fame has fleeted..

  51. Stan the man Says:

I never posted on this forum befor but reading the comments I got mad. I guess most of the crew commenting forgot about the past 10 or 15 years before B.A. got here. This is why it is so hard to repeat and win back to back superbowls lack of focus. 3 years ago everyones posting sell the team everyone on the team is a bum. How quickly most of us forgot how bad it really way omg it sucked. The ship will be righted, we have the greatest quarterback in the History of the game playing at a very high level after 20 plus years in the league the guy had a couple of bad plays. It’s OK to expect players to play at the highest level in every game but let’s be real that does not happen in real life no way it happens in a (game.) I got all the confidence in my bucs and the coaching staff. I guess we should be 9 -0 but we are not, 6-3 with injuries they’ve had on this team I will take it.

  52. Swampbuc Says:

    This team sucks.
