Bruce Arians: More Snaps Coming For Joe Tryon-Shoyinka

November 12th, 2021

There is a silver lining to Jason Pierre-Paul’s torn rotator cuff that is preventing him from practicing.

That means rookie edge rusher Joe Tryon-Shoyinka is gobbling up nearly all of JPP’s practice reps. It’s invaluable learning for the Bucs’ first-round pick. And today Bucco Bruce Arians noted all that extra work for Tryon-Shoyinka should lead to more game action.

“Yeah, Joe’s snap count should go up,” Arians told WDAE Radio.

Readers here have seen Joe playfully use the hashtag #FreeJoeTryon.

Joe is not down on JPP or Shaq Barrett. It’s just that the rookie has mad talent and there’s a great chance the Bucs will need him sharp and as experienced as possible for a playoff run against elite quarterbacks. There’s only so much any rookie can learn playing limited snaps.

To the Bucs’ credit, Tryon-Shoyinka overall has gotten a lot of work this season — in part because JPP missed two games — but it was awfully strange to see the rookie take just eight snaps in the loss to New Orleans two weeks ago.

Joe doesn’t expect that to happen again.

Pete called for this 3 weeks ago. Glad Bruce is starting to sober up 🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍑

  2. SB Says:

I don’t see any pictures of fentys or oxys there Pete.

  3. gp Says:

Great burst speed, however (from what I’ve seen) he has a knack for overshooting his target.
I hate to say it but he may need to slow it down a little so he can turn the corner when the QB steps up to let him by.
Just an observation, I’m sure his coaches see a whole lot more than I.
More reps will definitely help him mature into the player he can be.

  4. Half-Caulked Jeudy Says:

    Pete owns you people….rent free

  5. Tim in PSL Says:

Just let Tryon be the spy for Heineke. Good game experience for him, and I bet he’ll start to figure out that over shooting issue. Nothing beats gametime reps.

  6. Rich 12 Says:

If everyone would ignore and not comment back to medicated Pete ,eventually he would go away.

  7. SB Says:

    @Tim in PSL
    Great idea!

  8. SOEbuc Says:

JPP is a huge loss. Show us whatcha got JTS!

  9. Joe in Michigan Says:

Half-Caulked Jeudy only shows up to defend his buddy Medicated Pete. Strange.

Can JPP’s torn rotator cuff heal before the playoffs?

  12. captivajim Says:

how many PF penalties will White commit—-before he’s benched ??

  13. Hodad Says:

Rotator cuff tears don’t heal on their own, and resting it won’t matter either. I’ve had both mine done, my right side was a complete tear. I’m afraid surgury is the only fix. Keep you’re fingers crossed he doesn’t tear it completely. If he does he won’t be able to play at all.

  14. Defense Rules Says:

Hodad … I’ve had to have one of mine done too (and the other probably should be done). True that it supposedly won’t truly heal on its own (even with rest), but you can over time build up the smaller muscles around it I’ve been told (by surgeons). Been doing that for several months now and it seems to be helping (want to avoid surgery).

In JPP’s case, he apparently doesn’t lift weights at all. My hunch is that BA & Bowles will start limiting his snaps significantly, in the hope that he can make it to the playoffs. Sadly got another hunch that this is his last year.

  15. Brandon Says:

Defense… not true at all. Smaller rotator cuff tears can heal in full in three to six months simply by avoiding activities that aggravate it. Mine healed in six months and I didn’t miss a workout. I skipped flat bench the whole time and did incline. Once I was given the green light, I took off. That being said. Surgery or not, JPP will not be healthy this season

  16. Man Child Says:

It has become fun watching the way you attack the QB, Joe. Thank you keep doing what you do.

  17. Destinjohnny Says:

    I’ll take a healthy Joe over a 50% JPP

BA finally figured out he can influence JTS’s playing time?
