Does Chris Godwin Signing Mean Odell Beckham Rumors Will Die On The Vine?

March 9th, 2021

Pals.

All the network hollering shows were starting to hyperventilate recently over a rumor first floated weeks ago by a man who has an “in” with the camp of park-violating, home-invading, NFLPA-ignoring, down-forgetting, handshake-stiffing, jet-ski-losing, biscuit-baking, tequila-shooting, waffle-grilling, trophy-throwing, Bucs Super Bowl-winning quarterback Tom Brady.

The pride of Seminole High School, Jeff Darlington of BSPN, suggested three weeks ago that mercurial Browns receiver Odell Beckham could find himself on the roster of the Bucs in 2021 because of his relationship with Brady.

(Remember, Darlington was the very first person last year who said his intel within Brady’s camp was saying Brady was seriously considering the Bucs.)

And while the Beckham rumor didn’t generate much combustion at the time, it finally bubbled back to the surface Monday when Adam Schefter of BSPN claimed it could happen (but Schefter seemed to downplay the likelihood). Fellow BSPNer Mike Greenberg added he was getting all sorts of messages claiming Beckham to the Bucs was a thing to monitor.

And then the FS1 hollering shows picked up on it and away we go…

Of course, the key to such a deal seemed to hinge on the outcome of Chris Godwin’s negotiations with the Bucs on a new contract. Now that Godwin is franchise tagged, he’s got nowhere else to play in 2021, unless he is traded.

So will Godwin getting franchised throw cold water on the Beckham rumors, or will they now heat up further, with folks claiming the Bucs may trade Godwin to the Browns for Beckham and another player and/or draft picks?

Joe supposes only time will tell.

    Yes, IMHO.

  2. Godlovesbucs Says:

What is the cost difference between godwins tag and odells contract?

  3. All lives matter Says:

Beckham’s too big of an EGO to be in the same locker room as AB. Personality wise, Godwin is no Beckham and he meshed well with AB.

  4. Bucsfanman Says:

    Man, please!

  5. Joe in Michigan Says:

    Tag: $16,430,000
    OBJ: $15,750,000
    Difference: $680,000

    Qanon Joe,
Bucs don’t need a**holes, this team is family…sign their own and watch the dynasty…you want every head case in the NFL on the team…garbage …and the Ice Cream Man? jeez

  7. Ander Says:

    Yes Odell is overrated anyways

  8. 74 Bucs fan Says:

Hard Pass! I’ll take Godwin all day over that gifted clown. Godwin does the dirt work that makes the engine go.

  9. lambchop Says:

Beckham ain’t coming to Tampa unless he takes AB’s place at AB’s deal. LOL. We don’t need another WR. No thanks. Bigger needs elsewhere.

We need some depth at RB, DT, CB, and resign our key guys. Depth at RB only if Fournette leaves.

  10. PSL Bob Says:

It was never going to happen. I bet Licht and Arians were laughing their arses off over all the hyperbole out there.

  11. lambchop Says:

My guess is JL will get Shaq and Lavonte locked up. Suh is on the bubble, but I think they’ll find a way. They’ll have to back load some of their contracts. But, I really don’t see the Bucs over paying for Fournette and AB. Eventually, both of those guys are gonna get tired of the rotation role if we start to lose a few games. Winning helps cover up the warts. The only thing that would stop JL from letting those two walk is a steely eyed stare from Brady.

  12. fartman Says:

nah man… Odell replace Antonio Brown

  13. nate Says:

odel is just news talk hes been washed up for a long time hes not even a hall of famer like mike evans or AB.. He made one good catch

  14. Tampabaybucfan Says:

The Buccaneers used the “non-exclusive” franchise tag on Godwin, meaning he can negotiate with other teams but Tampa Bay retains a right to match any contract offer. If Godwin does sign with another team and the offer is not matched, that team must send two first-round draft picks to the Buccaneers.

Therefore, if someone wants him bad enough…..we could still lose him…but at least we’d get something.

  15. windbaggery Says:

Stop it. I wouldn’t want ODB/OBJ unless he was cheap with no guaranteed $$$… Godwin is a team guy. OBJ is not. Godwin is younger. Godwin is not a headache or a distraction. Brady loves him. And he produces. Why the EFF would we continue this ODB/OBJ conversation other than some boob on the 4-letter threw it out there and now the football industrial complex has to continue empty speculation when the idea is absolutely ludicrous. Stop this nonsense.

  16. IrishMist Says:

Can you imagine having both Odell and AB on the same team? It would be like being married to Brittany Spears and Winona Ryder.

  17. BillMFL Says:

Bucs already have one of best receiver groups without O’Dell. Put the money and draft pics on defense, offensive line and pass catching back.

  18. MadMax Says:

Who is this Odell? just no! Come on man!! lol

  19. Blue coffe Says:

Ha, ha, ha. Odell and AB on the same team? Tow big personalities? It would have been fun to watch the drama,… Ha! Ha!

    But,… no,… won’t happen. Lol.

  20. View from 132 Says:

Enough with this overrated dude. If he didn’t have some great one hand grabs, would anyone have ever heard of him? Instafamous. No thanks.

  21. Sorryjackchuckiesback Says:

Oh pleeeeeease don’t they this be true!! Godwin is 100 times the receiver and human being as Beckham!!! … Please Tampa don’t give in to every Brady whimsy!! You are the bosses don’t forget!!! Lol

  22. Steve M. Says:

    Odell B. Is injury prone
