Odell Beckham And Tom Brady (And Bucs?)

February 12th, 2021

Dot-connecting.

When Jeff Darlington throws something out there about park-violating, home-invading, NFLPA-ignoring, down-forgetting, handshake-stiffing, jet ski-losing, biscuit-baking Bucs Super Bowl-winning quarterback Tom Brady, Joe is listening.

Darlington is known to be tied to Brady’s inner circles. And before anyone had any inkling of Brady playing for the Bucs last spring, Darlington, the pride of Seminole High School, threw that piece of meat out to chew on, saying what sounded ludicrous at the time should not be easily dismissed.

And a few months later we see Brady throwing the Lombardi trophy to Cam Brate on the Hillsborough River.

Darlington took to the airwaves of BSPN yesterday to say if there is a veteran receiver who could end up in Tampa Bay next season after he’s cut loose due to a lower league salary cap, a guy to look out for is Odell Beckham, Jr. of the Browns.

Beckham is a freak receiver, but he’s also a bit of a headcase and injury-prone. But look at the flyer the Bucs took on Antonio Brown who was (is?) a nutcase, and he’s been a perfect citizen since joining the team.

Darlington, on BSPN’s “Stay in Bed” yesterday, said Brady and Beckham are tight. So if someone wanted to connect dots, OBJ could be 2021’s Antonio Brown.

Others on the panel noted that the Bucs boat parade was a major selling point to ring-chasing veterans across the league.

You have Brady, you have a cool coach and respected assistants. You have a proven, loaded (Super Bowl) winning team, and you can party topless on boats with babes in the middle of February while much of the nation is locked in the deep freeze of a polar vortex.

Has Tampa Bay suddenly turned into football heaven?

You can see Darlington explain his hunch in the BSPN video below.

    What fun ride it’s been!

And what an interesting ride it will be in 2021.

Every single critic has been silenced.

Tough decisions will have to be made for sure. But the front office and coaching staff largely remain intact.

As it relates to OBJ, or any other free agent, of course we are football heaven.

    In BA I Trust!

  2. 2021 Year of the GOAT Says:

    sure why not

  3. Bruce Blahak Says:

    Ridiculous!
Good way to blow up the whole fn thing. Brown behaved, for now, let him go elsewhere too. It’s Mike, Godwin and johnson/miller as the 3rd-4th. We’re good. The prima donnas can f**k off

  4. Drunkinybor Says:

    Hard pass

  5. Reddington Neck Shores Says:

ME13>obj. It took years for people to realize those circus one handlers are still in their minds. But if we lose Godwin or ab why not?

  6. Señor Harry in Costa Rica Says:

    @Buc1987 Says:
Señor Harry…word on the street is Brady’s about to take a vacation in Costa Rica. You should look him up and say hi
    – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –
Brady and Gisele have a house that is near where we live (on the Pacific side in Jaco). He goes there often, but I don’t think he ventures too far from home, as I have not seen him. Right now, however, we are in Boca. Looking to go back soon.

  7. Jbeachbuc Says:

Being On top of the football world sure feels good huh my fellow Bucs brothers & sisters huh? Been along time coming.

  8. Bruce Blahak Says:

    Absolutely NO!!!!!!

  9. Alexander Nascimento Says:

Hey Joe, can you add “Lombardi Trophy Throwing” to Tom Brady moniker?
    I think it fits

    OBJ? Thanks, but no thanks.

  10. Mitch Says:

If the Bucs lose AB or Godwin they could take a flyer on him. However he is a diva with an attitude. He would need the AB treatment. One wrong move and he is cut.

  11. Pa Privateer Says:

Easy NO. We have an elite passing game in Tampa.

OJ Howard will be back and his athleticism and speed opens up a lot more options in passing routes and blocking. I’d rather have OJ than OBJ or AB.

  12. mg Says:

Don’t get Edleman, his hands have turned into clay.

  13. Jim Says:

Too much of a good thing and we only get to play with one football. We have greater needs in other positions.

  14. OBF Says:

    It’s all about him

  15. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

This talk needs to stop because we will have trouble keeping the players we now have. Unless we lose an important receiver, and/or Beckham comes cheap, this is a pipe dream.

  16. Jeagan1999 Says:

OBJ is a talented WR, but I’d say stick with Evans and Godwin…let AB go, unless he is willing to re-sign inexpensively.

  17. Leighroy Says:

    Pass! Hard Pass! Hard No!

Dare I say he might be more cancerous than AB 3 years ago? Look how much better the browns became without him!

  18. Beeej Says:

The only thing I didn’t like about AB coming here was it X’s Scooter out of a lot of snaps. OBJ world do the same

  19. Scooter Says:

Beckham’s been living off that one handed catch in the Giant’s endzone for years. Year in and year out the production isn’t there. Cleveland’s offense took off after Beckham was done for the year. Not a team player. Antonio Brown is a 7 time first team All Pro, Beckham isn’t. Gronk and AB are little older but seasoned, in the big moments they hav e clutch in them.

  20. Aceofaerospace Says:

    In Licht I trust.

  21. OBF Says:

Not much vacation time for Licht, FA signing sweepstakes begins 17 March

  22. Bradinator Says:

God no! He’s hurt all the time and not a team player. Odell does not love football, he’s loves the attention it gives him. If he’s not getting enough attention…well then there’s a problem.

  23. gofortheface30 Says:

How many of you people said no to Antonio Brown. The Bucs, Jason Licht, Tom Brady has earned the benefit of the doubt and don’t need to listen to scarred naysayers. If godwin signs with sayyyy the Jets, you mean to tell me you’d rather have Scotty Miller lined up over Odell? lmao get the F-O-H. He’d bring a different dimension and between he and AB Mike Evans would be open on deep curls and crossers alllll day and it’d be lights out.

  24. Bird Says:

Godwin is the wait and see if he gets tagged

Lets face it. There are two teams in florida (fins tua and jags lawrence) that will offer godwin more money then he is worth

So godwin can decide if he wants money or rings
Fins a lot closer to ring then jags
If godwin wants rings and is willing to take deal in 14ish range then he stays
    Unless tagged

If godwin goes and obj wants a ring on reasonable deal wherein we keep AB as well. Why not?

We can handle his diva ness

Here is what obj has that none of our receivers have. …except maybe godwin….
Look at the green bay game. Blitz came and brady chucked up ball for receiver to make a play downfield. Evans has struggled there of late. Obj can get those contested catches when healthy

These coaches and brady keep divas in check. I mean brady and ab …brady and moss… brady and cleveland wr who is suspended from league indefinitely

  25. LVMYBUCS Says:

Dont need him we need to focus on D.

  26. Rico 210 Says:

Man, lot of y’all tripping. Strap up Bucs, you gotta target on your back now. More, more. Give me more
    Go Bucs

  27. zzbuc Says:

Because of cap issues We cannot spend money on a cafe latte, we will spend on a locker room cancer!!!……Hard pass, keep what we have that should be priority number 1, we’ve been champions with this… Common guys….think!!!

  28. Alanbucsfan Says:

Lvmybucs – exactly! Beckham will not be cheap and the D is priority.
Do you want Godwin or Barrett?
Do you want Beckham or David?
Do you want Fournette or Suh?
The OLine, QB, Te’s and Evans are already using up $100 million of cap.
Tough choices have to be made- trust in Licht- hopefully he stays hot!

  29. Show Me the TDs Says:

@gifor the face, I agree with all the.points you made.Miller is fast and makes the highlight reels, but doesn’t consistently produce. Did he even play in the SB blowout? Obviously, OBJ is the backup plan in case we can’t keep all our receivers. TB will keep him in line. All the people saying how Howard will be back next year…how has that worked out, so far. Talk about a fragile diva.

  30. Allbuccedup Says:

Its more of Greenberg and Davidson working the numbers magic.

  31. Oneilbucs Says:

Defense is the focus I don’t want to see no more of these type of players .

  32. Ben green Says:

OBJ has never had an unselfish thought. I bet cleveland moves him though
    He’s all flash

  33. Pewter Power Says:

So with the cap issues Brady is ok with giving up the cheaper friend and a draft pick for the more expensive friend? We wouldn’t have even needed AB if oj Howard didn’t go down. I’m on board with Miller getting touches and Tyler Johnson. That’s money they don’t need to spend but what they do need is an edge rusher because they wore down mid season and lucky to have that late bye week.

  34. Youngbucs Says:

There oneilbucs trying to give us his great knowledge 😂. I’ve been looking for you why you hiding. Hey oneilbucs I wanna make some excuses for Brady but he don’t need em but just because. He play all season on a hurt knee that’s why he tossed 12 ints he would’ve had no ints if he wasn’t hurt😂😂😂😂

  35. Youngbucs Says:

By the oneilbucs you’re not allowed to say what players you want here or don’t want. You said Brady was 43 and washed and we don’t know football. And you added some of these 😂😂😂😂😂. All Brady did was drop Bucs records like flies!!!!!! Highest scoring offense team history. Least penalties team history least turnovers team history longest win streak team history!!!!! Oh wait most passing tds team history!!!! There’s more but you get the point your opinion is shot dude you gonna eat crow or spin it????????????

  36. Jersey buc Says:

    NO, NOPE, NAH, HELL NO!!!!!!!!

  37. From76 Says:

Please no!!!!!! He is not what we need.

  38. Joe in Michigan Says:

Didn’t Cleveland’s offense get better once he went out with an injury? That should tell you everything you need to know.

  39. bojim Says:

Rather not but I said that about AB too.

  40. TOM Says:

I believe OJ could be gone. I’d say they did dam good without & Brate & TB seem to have a special relationship along with Gronk. OJ is just to injury prone for my liking. As far as Beckham I think it depends on what happens with Godwin & AB. Want to save more money, let D. Smith take a hike.

  41. adam from ny Says:

i don’t think we should make a habit of bringing in loose cannons…

AB was kept under lock and key…and things stayed chill…

these type moves can easily backfire, like with DJax a couple years back…

swerve the bus around obj…don’t pick him up…act like you don’t see him at the bus stop if you’re driving the bus mr. licht…

sometimes one wrong move can monkey-wrench everything and dent a nice lockerroom vibe

  42. adam from ny Says:

notice how cleveland actually got better after he went down…

    and i think baker’s play even improved a bit…

they sure as hell don’t want him

  43. admin Says:

I believe OJ could be gone.

Not yet. Pretty sure because of his injury his salary is locked in for the final year of his contract.

  44. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

    No way OBJ!

  45. JimbobBucsFan Says:

Antonio Brown was an insurance policy we picked up mid season because of previous injuries to Mike Evans and Chris Godwin. We were all-in at that point.

We don’t need Odell Beckham Jr.!

  46. 6throundpick Says:

Consider that the answer is not simply to have the same lineup every year…gotta keep teams off-balance. Just because it won last season, doesn’t mean ya can be successful with the (exact) same lineup. The key in Tampa Bay is that the culture has changed…like BIG up arrows. However, those windows of opportunities don’t stay open long, and as I posted, are not the same every season. And remember, teams can improve along the way, as well.

  47. Mike Says:

Godwin blocks and is unselfish. That is a guy we need to keep around. If AB goes, then sure, I would consider a guy like OBJ with a similar mindset of him being expendable if he doesn’t toe the line.

  48. TampaTown Says:

For the love of God – NO!!!!

  49. Buczilla Says:

You have Brady, you have a cool coach and respected assistants. You have a proven, loaded (Super Bowl) winning team, and you can party topless on boats with babes in the middle of February while much of the nation is locked in the deep freeze of a polar vortex.

Has Tampa Bay suddenly turned into football heaven?

    Freaking awesome!

  50. CalBucsFan Says:

Forget that head case and lock Godwin down Bucs!

  51. 813bucboi Says:

If we lose AB or Godwin then get OBJ simple….but don’t just give it to him….Tyler and Scotty are SB champs…..OBJ gotta beat them out for PT….

    GO BUCS

  52. Oneilbucs Says:

Youngbucs you are a Brady fan and they did just like I said that they would do . Changed the playbook and gave Brady a runninggame . Our defense won the last 3 games . Brady threw 3 picks against the Packers and our defense stepped up . Last year they would have lost against the Packers . Brady don’t play defense and now he’s having surgery on his knee . This is a different offense and defense wich have bailed us out of games because of Brady . This is their second year in the system so they are playing better . And just like I’ve been saying the past 4 years every quarterback needs a running game and this year they gave Brady a running game . Go look at the stats from the pass 4 years . But you told me that a running game don’t matter remember ??? I bring facts !!

  53. Alaskabuc Says:

Hell no! Hard pass. Ain’t worth the money, the headache or the drama.

  54. windbaggery Says:

Headache to deal with and injury prone? Why do people wanna screw with a winning locker room with potential cancer.

Sign Godwin… Let AB walk. Give Scotty Miller and Tyler Johnson more reps. We’re good.

What idiot wants OBJ in Tampa?

  55. Bellingham Bucs Fan Says:

Now there’s a jersey I’ll never, ever buy. No thanks to the princess.

  56. DalvinCookRules Says:

The only downside is you have to deal with all the inbreeding that goes on in the South.
