Tom Brady Vs. Mike Pettine

January 22nd, 2021

“I see you, Mike!”

Joe must be brutally honest and upfront here.

Joe isn’t a huge fan of Packers defensive coordinator Mike Pettine. Oh, he’s a significant upgrade from his predecessor Dom Capers, but that’s not saying a whole lot.

Joe isn’t a huge Pettine fan because as the then-bullheaded coach of the Browns, Pettine was a key figure in the destruction of Johnny Football.

Joe loves Johnny Football!

Pettine as defensive coordinator of the Packers has been somewhat of a meh coach. His defenses tend to be soft against the run (which is why Joe has a hunch Arians floated misdirection on SiriusXM NFL Radio this week saying he expected a shootout).

Pettine has a nice secondary (a key ingredient in a passing league) but not much else really is special about the Packers defense.

While Joe may not be a fan of Pettine, Joe is pretty sure he knows a guy who is. That would be park-violating, home-invading, NFLPA-ignoring, down-forgetting, handshake-stiffing, jet-ski-losing, biscuit-baking Bucs quarterback Tom Brady.

Per Bill Huber of SI.com documents that Brady has a history of slicing up Pettine’s defenses.

Jets defensive coordinator (2009-2012)

Brady: 6-3, 18 TDs, 5 INTs 9 TDs, 1 INT during winning streak of last four meetings with Pettine as Jets defensive coordinator.

Bills defensive coordinator (2013)

Brady: 2-0. 56.6 percent, 3 TDs, 2 INTs.

Packers defensive coordinator (2018-present)

Brady: 2-0. 62.9 percent, 3 TDs, 0 INTs, 101.5 rating.

Total: 10-3 with 24 TDs, 7 INTs. 8-game winning streak: 15 TDs, 3 INTs.

Of course, some may say if Brady has an eight-game winning streak over Pettine, then it’s about time to play the odds and predict a Packers win Sunday.

Let’s just say Joe trusts Brady to do quite well. Trick is, will that be as good or better than Aaron Rodgers?

    gotta start fast!

  3. Casual Observer Says:

Brady is unequalled in quickly reading defenses. That trait will show up Sunday.

  4. zzbuc Says:

We all know you are a Johny Football Fan Joe……My advice is to rethink who do you love… he is and has been a complete mess, outside and inside the field…..

  5. Brandon Says:

That’s actually pretty solid numbers against Brady.

  6. Brad Says:

pettine never had rodgers playing for his team

  7. unbelievable Says:

I like they way our offense matches up against their D. They do have some playmakers in the secondary though as noted. Also, their pass rush / D-line has been improving quite a bit over the last few weeks. But I think our o-line will handle them pretty well, especially if D Smith continues to play at the same level he has been during the playoffs so far, and if Stinnie continue to look solid.

  8. Bird Says:

    Wait a second.

    Pettine ruined johnny football’s career?

It wasnt the partying and drinking and vegas trips and late night booty randevus ; slapping his girl when she got out of line?. The guy passed out on couches in team building lounge room/ laundry room cause he partied to hard the night before. When he could have been watching game film. He wasnt the first player in the building but was one of the first out. That was confirmed.

Man joe. You do have a love affair for some players that just arent that into you
😂. Have you seen the movie “Fatal Attraction”? Do we need to get you some help? 😂

  9. David Says:

I’ll keep saying it, the Buccaneer offense is going to explode. They played defensive games with a lot of runs the last two weeks.

I think this is going to be a balanced attack with a lot of play action. I see them scoring high 30s or more.

Packers defense has one guy who can rush the passer… I’ll put my money on the buccaneer O- line
There DBs are decent but with Brady having a clean pocket, it won’t matter.

  10. Lamarcus Guiton Says:

Manziel is a real bust and should been 6th round pick then it would look so bad. Jameis is not a bust now that dude can play

  11. BucEmUp Says:

Double cover davante, jam at the lines and get Brady the ball back

  12. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I thought “snow storms” ruined Johnny Manziel.
    Not saying I dont understand.
If I had that kind of of money, my house might have quite a few blizzards and blondes!

But it sure wasnt a coach that ruined that kid.
Unless you are gonna blame coaches for Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, and Jim Morrison!

  15. Ericb Says:

Pressure rogers big time play man coverage on d and keep the run game going well win this game …keep up the intensity on defense and hit them hard!!! Lets fgo bucs!!!! TAMPA BAY ALL THE WAY

  16. Capt.Tim Says:

    “Jameis can play”
Lamarcus, dude, you sure can pull off sarcasm!!
    From starter to 3rd stringer!
I wasnt gonna bring it up, but it pissed me off seeing Jamis “eating the w” , after our regular season loss.
    Alot.
Kinda glad to think of him, having to eat that bucket of d**ks now.

  17. Jersey buc Says:

Not concerned all that much with the offense. It’s The defense that concerns me with Rodgers. Got to hit him early and often. Truly believe Suh really dislikes Rodgers go get him big fella

  18. Mitch Says:

Antonio Brown is out. Next man up!

  19. Dewey Selmon Says:

Shame about AB, he was just as good as a decoy as a wideout.

Some people are never at fault for what they do, it’s always everyone else!

    :: rolls eyes ::

  27. SlyPirate Says:

“You think I don’t play this (game) to go to Pro Bowls? … We’re trying to win championships.”

I wonder how many players actually think that way. That’s great stuff!

  28. D-Rome Says:

Pettine was a key figure in the destruction of Johnny Football.

The only person responsible for the destruction of Johnny Football is Johnny Football.

  29. Scooter Says:

Pettine was the head coach of North Penn high school in Pa. Biggest enrollment in the District. One summer his team met Coatesville high school in 7 0n 7 competition. Pretty much all passing. My son was on the Coatesville team. Coatesville tore North Penn Up. Pettine refused to shake the hands of the Coatesville players after the competition. Everyone shakes hands after these events. That’s what Pettines all about. Backup QB at Pitt, got his foot in the door with the Ravens in the computer room.

  30. Listnfrmafar Says:

Did the Coatsville coach throw him a banana?

  31. BuccoDav Says:

  34. Scooter Says:

D’amelio ur correct. Pettine was a coach for 2 years at Pitt under Johnny Majors.
