Report: Falcons Renew Interest In Todd Bowles

January 3rd, 2021

Todd Bowles

Today’s Bucs-Falcons matchup may have extra meaning.

Per a fresh report on NFL.com, a collaborative effort by league insider reporters Ian Rapoport, Mike Garafolo and Tom Pelissero, Bucs defensive coordinator Todd Bowles is a man the Falcons are considering to be their 2021 head coach.

“The Falcons interviewed interim head coach Raheem Morris for the full-time job Friday and are expected run a wide search beginning Monday. Among the candidates Atlanta has been researching are Bucs defensive coordinator Todd Bowles — who was a finalist last time it came out — as well as Titans offensive coordinator Arthur Smith and Rams DC Brandon Staley.

Bowles, 57, failed as Jets head coach through four seasons (2015-2018), and he has never denied interest in returning to the head coaching ranks. He recently did an extensive interview with CBS Sports about getting back to commanding a team, and Bowles notably said it would have to be just the right fit.

Joe shared last month that Bruce Arians said he would advise Bowles against taking a head coaching gig unless a general manager hires him.

Atlanta does not have a GM in place, but former Bucs GM Rich McKay is team president and owner Arthur Blank is hands-on and respected.

Joe thinks Atlanta is a great fit for Bowles. Blank showed a lot of patience with Mike Smith and Dan Quinn, and there’s a quarterback in place — or likely a top-5 pick to draft one this year. Plus, he knows the division well.

Joe doesn’t want to see Bowles leave his Bucs gig as defensive coordinator, but Joe would at least be a little pleased if Bowles takes over in Atlanta, as Joe doesn’t think Bowles was/is/will be a successful head coach.

Lol ….McKay and Blank love tormenting the Bucs and G’Boyz

  6. ClodHopper Says:

I missed that article about BA advising Bowles and Leftwich.

It’s kinda funny how he basically said: “Don’t do what the Bucs did when they hired Licht.”

“If I’m either one of those guys, I would counsel them, ‘Don’t take a job without the GM interviewing you. Don’t take a job and get a GM later.’”

  7. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I’m with Joe…..don’t think Bowles is good head coach material…….great DC…..I could certainly be wrong…..
I also think BL is not good head coaching material…..both of these guys meet the “Rooney Rule” requirements so they will certainly get interviews….as will Raheem.

@Joe … “Joe doesn’t want to see Bowles leave his Bucs gig as defensive coordinator, but Joe would at least be a little pleased if Bowles takes over in Atlanta, as Joe doesn’t think Bowles was/is/will be a successful head coach.”

So should we assume it’s fair to say Joe that you DON’T want Bowles to be BA’s successor here in Tampa?

Hmmm, apparently you’re holding out for Leftwich? Well, hang in there Joe. You’ll see the light one day. Bucs’ heritage is D-E-F-E-N-S-E

  9. TheBradyBunch Says:

Clodhopper it would have been difficult for Licht to wait for a GM to hire him as he was being hired as the GM. SMDH!

  10. Bucs Fan Since ‘76 Says:

If the Birds hire Bowles as HC, don’t be surprised if we hire Quinn as DC. He had success in Seattle, although the D was in place when he got there, but maybe that’s another reason why he might be successful here as well. I hope he stays here for another year as I think we are going to make a real run in 2021.

  11. Cobraboy Says:

I hope the entire band is kept together for one more year.

  12. Wesley Says:

If they were smart they’d hire Raheem.

I don’t think most remember it know McKay was fired one weekend by the Glazers and the very next Sunday sitting in the visiting owners box in the RayJay with Arthur Blank as the GM of the Falcons and they beat the Bucs that day.. grrr

  14. Leighroy Says:

Easy there bradybunch. The rest of us understand that Clod is referring to how Lovie was hired and then Licht after. Shake your head in the mirror buddy.

Tough to label Bowles a bad HC or not that type of material bc of his experience at the Jets. Nobody wins with the Jets. He’s done everything asked of him with the Bucs, turned around the performance of the Defense, identified and developed young talent and free agents have come here bc of respect for him.

I’d like to see Raheem get a true second shot in Atlanta but either way, if ATL fixes that defense, they’ll be a handful again.

Lol, I would explain it to you, but that kind of ignorant confidence don’t deserve it and everyone else sees your ignorance without my help.

Richie McKay leaks for a last-game advantage.

I’m so pissed that i had to turn it off. Another team is interested in Bowles? PLEASE God let it be true. Take my wife PLEASE. Remember the last game against Ryan? The Bucs played a soft zone and got carved up like a turkey. I’m watching the gamecast and it’s so damn frustrating to watch, 5 yd complete, 10 yda complete, 8 yd complete erc etc etc etc. First drive of the game all the way down the field. first drive after halftime same dam thing. Is Todd Bowles frick’n blind or just plain damn STUPID??????????????????????

  19. Capt.Tim Says:

Well, this game may curb their interest.

  20. ModHairKen Says:

Fairmonded, “Raheem deserves his shot”? Why? What has he done? 4-7 and blowing leads. He’s the same undisciplined, unready, entitled princess he was in Tampa when he was given this job he had not earned.

  21. Frankinthe813 Says:

    Scotty Miller needs more bench

  22. Buc4evr Says:

@cobraboy, I wouldn’t put it past that snake named McKay. He will probably try to interview Bowles during the playoff run.

  23. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

I wouldn’t put hiring Bowles past that snake named McKay.

  24. Cobraboy Says:

If the Falcons hire Morris, would Morris fin in as Arians DC?

  25. Chesapeake Bay Bucco Says:

Alton Green, please share your impressive football coaching credentials that enable to conclude that Todd Bowles is frick’n blind or just plain damn STUPID?

  26. Listnfrmafar Says:

Did anyone see today’s game? Bucs had to score 44 points to put Atlanta away. 27 points not a great defensive game. LET HIM Go, there are better out there.

  27. Michael B Says:

Bucs will be much better once old man brady and na is gone

  28. Michael B Says:
