Mike Evans Update

January 3rd, 2021

Status.

Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians in his postgame press conference had a brief update on the status of star receiver Mike Evans.

Evans in the first half injured his knee and needed assistance off the field. He was taken to a nearby medical facility to get an MRI. Arians had told Jennifer Hale of FOX Sports at the game at halftime the Bucs were trying to determine Evans’ availability for next week’s playoff game.

When asked about Evans, Arians said, “Knock on wood, we don’t think there is any serious damage. We will know more in the next 24 hours.”

Arians suggested the biggest culprit was the condition of the field where Evans attempted to catch what looked to be a sure touchdown when he injured his knee.

“The turf was really slick in the end zones,” Arians said. “Just a freaky thing.”

Arians added that the wet turf was “totally” why the injury occurred.

    This would be great news!

  3. Rod Munch Says:

The Bucs need him – hopefully everything works out.

  4. SCBucsFan Says:

If they don’t cut it off he will play

  5. Bird Says:

    We are pulling for Mike!

  6. RyanW Says:

No reason to have the Outback Bowl the day before a home game. Put Bucs on the road if there isn’t a day between dates.

  7. BrickBoss Says:

Shucks, I’m seriously down about this.

  8. Jerry Jones Says:

Alright, I can live with THAT.

  9. DaBux Says:

I would like to know what idiot said “hey, let’s move the Outback Bowl from January 1st to 2nd the day before a pro game”..the boys at RayJay need to be made to answer for this stupid move.

  10. SOEbuc Says:

Praise Jesus for the AB pick up. Lichts best move of his career with the Bucs.

  11. Tampabaybucfan Says:

As long as it isn’t a big toe…..Mike will tough it out…..

    Probably a strain…

  12. No Risk It No Biscuit Says:

Yes the condition on the field at TOMPA STADIUM.

  13. Joe Says:

I would like to know what idiot said “hey, let’s move the Outback Bowl from January 1st to 2nd the day before a pro game”..

You can blame Alabama, Clemson, Notre Dame and Ohio State. College football suits and BSPN did not want any competition against those games on Jan. 1. It’s happened before.

Now sure how the Outback Bowl is to blame for a wet end zone.

Where were the groundskeepers to get rid of the moisture? You mean they don’t have leaf blowers available to help dry the field?

Besides, there was a chance for rain all day today. Not sure how you stop the rain short of building a roof.

  14. firethecannons Says:

    MRI results==?

  15. Mike C Says:

Yeah, AB pick up looks REALLY GOOD right now.

  16. Hank Rearden Says:

They’ve been slipping on this turf since over seeding in early Nov. The HNIC of the stadium turf should be run or the equipment manager is an idiot and should also be run.

  17. No Risk It No Biscuit Says:

The sheep are Celebrating our playoff bound Buccaneers.

Good vibes being sent to ME13.

    Go Bucs!!!

  18. DaBux Says:

@Joe. So why was the Gator Bowl given priority over the Outback? They played on January 1st. The turf has to be replaced after the game and has not had time to set properly thanks to the time and rain. If the NFL is going to let this continue with the stadiums they use, then they had best be prepared to lose superstars to stupid decisions like letting Disney dictate the tv schedule.

  19. 6throundpick Says:

We don’t think there’s any serious damage…Bruce is a lot better than me on this stuff; as close to the situation as anyone. So, why would I expect the worse? Mike Evans is one of my faves…would love to see him scoring in coming game, as well.

  20. Cobraboy Says:

Good thing Brown was signed for “depth”, huh?

  21. Jerry Says:

I just want Evans to finally get to play in the post season. It’s been so damn long and he deserves it!

  22. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

More than just the Bucs needing him, Mike has earned getting to play in the playoffs. I want this for him.

  23. Oneilbucs Says:

Jerry I feel the same way !!!

  24. tmaxcon Says:

the goat pasture formerly known as ray jay was bound to get someone. i am pulling for mike this will be his one and only shot at a playoff game in his career as long as he stays in tampa. maybe the glazers could hire pro landscapers instead of sending Darcy to Labor Ready every week for new guys.

  25. HomerSimpsonRocks Says:

How about no more college games at RJS??

  26. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

Let Mike rest next week – no matter the diagnosis! We’ll need him in 2 weeks.

  27. Joe Says:

    MRI results==?

Arians mentioned it in his quotes.

  28. Bosch Says:

Really glad ME got his 1000 yards before the injury. Well earned.

  29. Joe Says:

How about no more college games at RJS??

Who will build USF a stadium?

And Joe is confident there is a long-term contract with the Outback Bowl.

C’mon guys, this is crazy. The Outback Bowl (or USF) had absolutely nothing to do with Evans’ injury.

What next, blaming monster truck pulls for O.J. Howard blowing his Achilles?

  30. @Hands2theface Says:

Brate slipped as well on what would have been a sure TD.

  31. ClodHopper Says:

Aaron Rodgers is right. They too many games there and the turf is ass.

I’m no expert on these things but cant they get artificial outdoor turf there? They dont have drainage problems.

  32. Destinjohnny Says:

They should really try and schedule future USF games on weekends the Bucs are playing away.

  33. ClodHopper Says:

Heavy traffic does a lot on dirt. What was the halftime show time show like for the Bowl game? Was there stages and tons of people out there? And the bands too? All that traffic seals the pores in the soil. Then when it rains the water don’t soak in as well making things slick.

Maybe I’m wrong but artificial turf sounds like a win/win as far as fixing the turf issues and also keeping every event at RayJay.

  34. Ocala Says:

    Get well Mike!
Bucs need you to win a Super Bowl.

It may sound crazy since it’s the playoffs but Bucs should rest him so they can have him hopefully available for the second week of the playoffs.

  35. tbbucs3 Says:

“Praise Jesus for the AB pick up. Lichts best move of his career with the Bucs.”

Licht is a great offensive GM….just cant field a pass defense to save his life.

  36. Greg Says:

Changing to artificial turf are you kidding me! Yes there was a game played the day before but the turf at Ray Jay is of the best in the league not my opinion but of the groundskeepers of the league. It rained prior to the game! hopefully ME’s injury is minimal and overcome but the injuries on artificial turf are much more frequent. Ask the players.

  37. Slapmyassandcallmesally Says:

Sometimes sun affects grass. Sometime people affect grass. Sometimes grass uses it’s it energy to minimize sure footing. It’s like 10,000 spoons when all you need is a knife. Ironic right bitches?

  38. bigdaddio Says:

    @Slap

If there was an elite unit of Irony Police who arrested people who misused the term ironic, Alana Morrisette would be the #1 wanted criminal in the world. Unfortunate co-incidences are not irony.

  39. mark2001 Says:

Wife said she was watching the Packer game, and at the end an announcer said the medical prognosis said no tear shown on the MRI. That would seem to mean that Mike would likely be back later in the playoffs. And if that is true, that would be great news. Joe..can you confirm?

  40. DTJMAGA2020 Says:

    God bless you joes

  41. admin Says:

And if that is true, that would be great news. Joe..can you confirm

All Joe knows is that there is no structural damage and he is day-to-day with a chance (slim) he could play in the playoff game.

    That was in the story.

  42. JDKONE2 Says:

I hope are guy is alright, one of the great wr in the game today. We have never had one like him, looking forward to the game this weekend. Go Bucs. 🏈

  43. John D Persico Says:

Why no comment of the way ME was tackeled by his leg on the prior play? I’m certain it played a role in MEs injury!
