Marpet’s Health In Doubt For Sunday

November 4th, 2020

This is troubling.

The Buccaneers’ rock solid left guard, potential first-time Pro Bowler Ali Marpet, has a new injury. And it’s the kind that could keep him out of Sunday’s critical game against New Orleans, especially after a short week following a Monday night road game.

Damn, Bucco Bruce Arians was just raving about Marpet’s health last week, revealing Marpet had offseason hip surgery and was performing much better because of it.

Today on the Buccaneers’ official injury report, Marpet is listed with a concussion and he did not practice. So it’s unclear when/if he’ll be cleared to resume play.

Versatile backup Joe Haeg has been getting game action blocking as a sixth lineman in “heavy” sets, and Joe assumes the former Colts starter will be the go-to guy if Marpet can’t play.

Joe wants Marpet to play, but maybe Haeg can re-energize the run blocking that Arians said was lacking on Monday night.

Head health first. Get well Ali.

Teamwork makes the dream work. We should have somebody that’s ready to step in and play.

Good thing Auclair is also in the mix the replace Haeg as the extra lineman in certain formations. Will also add more to the passing game in those situations.

Great news. But Haeg has been good with this good oline.

    A man walks into a bar …

    That’s my best concussion joke.

  4. Mitch Says:

Do we know when Ali was put in the concussion protocol? Doesn’t it take five days at a minimum to be cleared? If that is the case is he even eligible to play Sunday?

  5. Rod Munch Says:

Maybe the run game would work better if Leftwich wasn’t so insanely predictable. There is no rule that says you must run it up the middle on every first down in the 1st half.

so he got a beer bottle smashed on his head in a bar?????…

an angry Ali would be very dangerous sloshing in a bar !

    Good point, RM.

I recall one play where Marpet seemed to be really slow getting up…

Dudes a warrior! Get healthy bro! I’m glad the NFL takes this stuff semi-serious these days.

  11. ArmchairGM Says:

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe you have to be in the concussion protocol for at least 5 days before playing. If they include today and Sunday, that would be the 5th day, so he would be a game time decision. Let’s hope a safe and speedy recovery. Haeg should be able to hold his own on the inside.

  12. ModHairKen Says:

Well, hopefully his backup seizes the day.

i heard an innocent ali was sitting on his stool at his locker just strumming away on his tiny little banjo…

in walks that bad man AB, for his first time in the locker room…

AB grabs ali’s banjo and smashes it over ali’s noggin for a splash entry to the organization…

    then finished by yelling out:

“the man has arrived, and i’ve got a presser to do!”

ali was layed out on the floor and cam brate was rubbing hand sanitizer all over ali’s huge head, like a harvard doctor in training

  15. Pewter Power Says:

Haeg not going to play up to market level especially if he wasn’t able to impress enough to push our other guard for playing time. Worst game to lose marpet

  16. Mike Johnson Says:

Who cares about our injuries? Nobody said anything when we whipped up on Grudens O line boyz who had not practiced for 2 solid weeks. So ruck up. No excuses baby. Next man up. Saints will be pumped. We had better be.
