Leftwich High On List

November 13th, 2020

Makes hot list.

Boy, do Bucs fans know the feeling.

In the days leading up to the Giants game, Joe got so many Twitters that were along the lines of, “How nice is this we’re not talking draft and it’s Halloween?”

Indeed.

That was a Halloween tradition around these parts during the Lost Decade.

And it’s that time of year again, just before people are distracted by the holidays, where fans of poor NFL teams already are looking forward to the offseason, coaching moves and the draft.

So in that line of thought, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, after speaking with several NFL suits and owners, has a list of hot candidates who could be NFL coaches next year. Among the top names is Bucs offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich.

Buccaneers OC Byron Leftwich: The 10-year NFL veteran quarterback was once a backup in Pittsburgh under Bruce Arians, who hired Leftwich as QB coach in Arizona in 2017 and brought him along to Tampa last year. Leftwich, 40, had an uninspiring stint as the interim OC for a doomed Cardinals team two years ago under Arians’ successor, Steve Wilks. But Arians trusted Leftwich enough to make him the play-caller with the Bucs. Leftwich has shown he can manage a room with veterans such as Carson Palmer and Tom Brady, who’s more than two years older than his OC and made a point on Wednesday to tweet that he loves Leftwich. Last week’s blowout loss to the Saints notwithstanding, it’d be a surprise if Leftwich doesn’t have interview requests this cycle.

Now hold up! Does anyone really believe Leftwich is “managing” the quarterbacks room? That, good friends, is Tom Brady’s room. Joe doesn’t believe for a second that Leftwich is the chieftain.

Whatever decisions are happening in that room if they aren’t coming from Brady directly are coming from Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians after consultation with Brady. For example, do you think the Bucs brought in furniture-tossing Antonio Brown on the advice of Leftwich or Brady?

Look, Joe doesn’t doubt for a second Leftwich could be a candidate for a head coaching job. Hey, he had the NFL’s No. 3-ranked offense last year with a quarterback 85 percent of Tampa Bay area residents hollered to run out of town. Leftwich even made said pathetic quarterback throw (sarcasm) for 5,000 yards, an extraordinary feat — if you believe YouKnowWho was the second coming of Son of Bob.

So yeah, Joe could see Leftwich getting a head coaching gig elsewhere for 2021, so long as the Bucs offense this season doesn’t continue to nosedive like it has the past two games.

This is an EMERGENCY post. There is a hidden enemy on the Buccaneers and my brother brought him to my attention. Yes a hidden enemy and who is this hidden enemy that is hurting the Buccaneers you ask? Randy Moss! Why Randy you ask? because he is another one of “Brady’s Boys” Think about it, what kind of friend would Brady be if he allowed Mike Evans to break that record? Not a very good one eh? So Brady didn’t throw to Mike and they had to go get another receiver AB.
Now all of a sudden the team refuses to play for Brady, Why?
Because they LOVE MIKE! Mike is family! He sacrificed so much for this team this year just to be forgotten by Brady and his BOYS!! Taking all of the credit for success leaving Mike in the shadows. The team has made a statement No Mike? no Super Bowl! It’s pretty clear to me that this is the case. If they lose this year I hope that they pack up Brady Gronk Arians BL and AB and ship em out if they decide not to get Mike the ball and it seems the core of the team is feeling this way. NO MIKE NO SUPER BOWL! PERIOD! If you doubt me just watch as Brady throws to Mike and all of a sudden the team will come to life. He wants to break that record, He deserves to break that record. NO MIKE? NO SUPER BOWL!!
Go Bucs!!!! GET MIKE THAT DAMN BALL!!!!

YES RANDY MOSS!! You see Randy is another one of “Brady’s Boys” What kind of friend would Brady be if he allowed Mike Evans to break his record? Not a very good one eh? The team LOVES MIKE EVANS! they apparently refuse to play if Brady refuses to get the ball to MIKE EVANS!! NO MIKE NO SUPER BOWL PERIOD!! The team has spoken You refuse to give mike any spotlight you refuse to pass him the ball. You barely use any of our high powered offense that was already here in place. You refuse to step your ass out of the spotlight and deflect all this crap coverage you get BRADY! NO MIKE? NO SUPER BOWL PERIOD> I find it difficult to believe that the Buccaneers suddenly do not know how to play football. They have made a statement Brady will be sacked over and over and over again. NO MIKE? NO SUPER BOWL and if you continue to disrespect Mike you Gronk Arians BL and AB will be shipped the hell out of Tampa Bay I PROMISE> NO MIKE? NO SUPER BOWL PERIOD
GO BUCS!!! GET MIKE THE DAMN BALL!!

    Unbelievable

Careful what you wish for Brad!
There’s a real world out there.

I’m thinking if Mike had the idea that the team had quit Brady to stand by him…
He would be very humbled by their actions.
He would then give them the RIOT ACT!
    Mike wants to win!
Yeah, I’m sure he would love to set yet another record but, as he has stated repeatedly, Winning is what it’s all about!

  8. Defense Rules Says:

Oh please let BL get hired as a HC someplace else. Please please please.

While you’re at it, how about helping OJ look for the real killers of Ron & Nicole?

  10. Oh Boy! Says:

I hope he gets the opportunity to coach elsewhere. Winston to Brady and getting the same results!

  11. BucEmUp Says:

Is this a joke? He should be on the hot seat for being FIRED! This dude sucks….yet the glaziers sit back and don’t have the balls to tell Arians to fire his goon.

  12. Conte Piscateli Says:

Yes it’s likely true, it’s called Adam Gase syndrome. A young offensive coordinator is paired with a hall off game quarterback and for some reason the league likes to act like the quarterback is suddenly successful because of them. It’s fool’s gold.

  13. Still love my Bucs Says:

God PLEASE have someone hire Leftwich away from us!

  14. #1bucfan Says:

GET MIKE THE BALL!! Get Godwin the ball. Run the ball and everyone else can fall in line after that. JOE you can quote me on this. IF ME13 has a monster game we win. That goes for every game the rest of the season. If ME13 has a monster game we win.

  15. Hodad Says:

Whoever wants him can have him.

  16. D1 Says:

If Leftwich is hired as a HC, that team receives a 3rd round pick as a bonus.

  17. 813bucboi Says:

Now hold up! Does anyone really believe Leftwich is “managing” the quarterbacks room?

    YES!!!!…

BL is managing the qb room…he’s the coach….brady is the player….simple as that….

funny how when we win and put up points its because of brady….lol…but when we lose its because of BL….

    yall clowns…lol…

ive been telling folks BL will be a HC next year….lol…

a blind man can see that

    GO BUCS!!!!!

    WRONG!!!!

more like sean mcvay, kyle shannhan, matt nagy, kliff kingberry, brian foles syndrome…..

BL guided the bucs to the #3 offense last year…..JW aint no where near a HOFer….lol….

    GO BUCS!!!!!!

  19. Destinjohnny Says:

    I don’t see it man
    I give him a c minis here

  20. Timbo Slice Says:

I have not been able to really understand this one. I’d say they can have him. I’m not overly impressed with him as an OC.

  21. D1 Says:

    Bucboi,

Do you believe BL will be hired this year as a HC? Does his rather light resume give you any hesitation?

  22. Jabooknowsbest? Says:

That is BL room and 8f people can’t except that oh well. A young black man can demand respect among a bunch of so called super stars. Bucs lose be cause AB and TB have egos to up hold. BA never won a big game and they are far from being core figures in Tampa as Evans and company have been unselfishly putting in work for us. TB, AB, BA can kiss BL’s playbook. Better off keeping Lovie Smith and Winston. Add in Todd Bowles and we would have a ring granted the run game was improved.

  23. Defense Rules Says:

813bucboi … “ive been telling folks BL will be a HC next year….lol… a blind man can see that”.

Hmmm. And yet you seem to be the only one who believes he’ll make HC next year. Me thinks your blindness will be magically cured once the Bucs get smart and fire him.

  24. Eric Says:

Better win Sunday or this thing is headed for a crash landing.

  25. Allbuccedup Says:

Just in Byron Leftwich new head coach of the New York Jets! HAHAHA

  26. Greenechild Says:

I love Byron Leftwich…he will succeed in anything he does…don’t be a hater..where he goes I follow..

  27. gotbbucs Says:

    Won’t happen, wish it would.

  28. Bucshot Says:

Leftwich needs a win this weekend. Then all will be forgotten.

  29. shorttrooper Says:

Hoping Leftwich gets hired away just so we can be rid of him. He’s just riding on Arians’ coattails.

  30. Pewter Power Says:

They can have him. No good when game planning against actual good defenses. I can’t ever remember him tearing a part a top defense any any poin in the last two years. Arians should have found someone with more experience.

  31. JimmyJack Says:

Ive been a staunch Byron defender and will continue to be. That said I cannot defend the gameplan Sunday Night. And to me a lot of blame goes to OL who suddenly forgets how to passblock whenever we play the Saints……But Byron did little to aid the offense and work around the passrush.

He just continued calling deep drops all day and never adjusted….at least to my eyes. He was a big rwason we lost but far from the only. The lack of adjustment rem8nded me of Dirk. And for sure you can pin some of that on Bruce to. Im fairly certain he is involved in the gameplan aswell.

But Byron still a good playcaller. One game dont take away from all the success hes had. Yall shall see this week.

    GO BUCS!!!!

  32. View from 132 Says:

D1, that isn’t correct. If a minority candidate is hired into GM or head coach, his current employer is given a 3rd round pick. This encourages teams to groom minority coaches for leadership roles. So the Bucs would benefit if Leftwich left – aside from obvious reasons, like that he is Mike Shula all over again.

  36. unbelievable Says:

I’ve never seen someone live a mediocre coordinator the way 813 loves him some BL.

Very strange. I think Leftwich is alright, but he is constantly reverting to old school 90s play calling. Predictable run. Predictable pass. Etc.

I mean this team is built for play action and we scarcely use it. Let alone some actual misdirection and disguise. We telegraph exactly what we’re going to do, and rely on our talent to be better. There is no disguising of anything.

It’s funny 813 mentions McVay, Shanahan, etc. Those guys dance circles around the play design and scheming of Leftwich. Not even comparable IMO
