“Florida Heat Is Kicking His Ass”

August 17th, 2020

Getting sweaty.

It appears that new Bucs tight end foot-rubbing Rob Gronkowski has been spending a little too much time in the Boston area.

That’s understandable if you follow his SI Swimsuit cover girl girlfriend’s Instagram. She’s a New England girl and it doesn’t appear she’s been in Florida this summer.

(Gronk’s Instagram doesn’t show much Florida activity aside from visiting his mother and a few informal practices with teammates.)

That New England hangout is showing on Gronk, which has delighted Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians.

In a Zoom conference call today after practice, Arians had a good laugh at Gronk spending too much time in the northeast and not enough time in Florida getting acclimated to the non-stop heat and humidity of the Sunshine State.

When asked about Gronk’s ability to get into football shape after a year of retirement, Arians didn’t hold back the laughter.

“He is probably in New England shape right now, but he’s not in Florida shape,” Arians said as he laughed out loud. “The heat is kicking his arse pretty good. When you train in New England and come down here it is really different.

“We laughed about it out there today. I don’t think he has ever sweat that much in his life. So it takes a little time to get in Florida shape. As far as playing a game, he’s more than ready right now.”

Arians was later asked about players getting used to the environment of One Buc Palace and Arians said something very interesting. In short, dehydration leads to injuries.

“Muscle injuries are mostly going to be caused by dehydration,” Arians said. “When you lose six or seven pounds in a practice — we weigh in and weigh out — we want to see that weight back before they leave the building, as much of it as possible.

“If you lose eight or nine pounds and you come back and you still lost four, you are at high risk for an injury.”

Now Joe knows pulled muscles can directly be attributed to dehydration. Joe wasn’t aware of more serious injures connected to dehydration.

Dudes might be struggling now if they haven’t hung out locally. Joe’s confident that will change before the season opener against the slimy Saints (in less than a month!).

Not being a wise guy, does it have anything to do with all the hamstring injuries we had last year?

You are not being a wise guy. That’s a fair question. Not sure the Bucs will ever admit to it because that’s like outing the players or admitting you as an organization failed the players, but it makes you wonder.

I LOVE it…can still play tennis just need to start at 7:30AM.

Wonder what time the Bucs are practicing outdoors and how much they’ve scheduled in the Advent Health Indoor football facility. Bucs should pay me for that plug.
