Total Comfort, Says Murphy-Bunting

May 13th, 2020

Buccaneers second-year cornerback Sean Murphy-Bunting is feeling super versatile and comfortable these days.

He joined a media conference call this afternoon and Joe asked where he thinks he’ll take most of his snaps this season and at what position he feels most comfortable.

“I feel comfortable at either position, honestly,” Murphy-Bunting said. “At the end of the day, I mean it’s up to Coach Bowles. I truly feel like we have a good secondary. And definitely the room where all of us can play a bunch of different positions if needed.

“Each one of us is ready to kind of step up to be that No. 1 guy when called on. So it’s really up to him. You know, whatever he feels is best for the defense is what we’re going to do. And we’re going to take that drive; you know, we’re not going to regret on not being a No. 1 guy or not being a No. 2 guy, but just making the most of our opportunity. Make plays on the field that contribute to wins.”

It’s great to hear the young man feels well trained and ready anywhere on the field. It sure smells like nickel will be Murphy-Bunting’s primary role, given that rookie safety Antoine Winfield said last week that he’s only learning the free safety position now.

Man, Joe wishes the Bucs had more depth at cornerback. There’s still time for that, though.

    Joe,

I know you don’t have a crystal ball, but do you think Jordan Whitehead will start opposite AW jr? Yes. –Joe

i think SMB played well at both….

Why does SMB look 12 here?

  6. JimmyJack Says:

Yeah ya gotta think nickle will be his spot. Carlton and Dean play well on the outside. And if you can move Bunting outside if need be it makes our depth at that position look a lot better if we got a safety who can hold down the slot role. Maybe Andrew Adams? Or Windfield slid in there?

So those saying we are in trouble because Ryan Smith is our top backup might be wrong. Its probably Bunting while we use our versatility to fill in at slot.

But I still don’t mind seeing us go after a experienced DB to really keep that unit strong. It can be a S or CB depending on how Bowles sees the roster fitting together. When I look at avialable players at DB and a guy like Devonta Harris, who was a solid depth player for us, is not even listed…….Then I’m not even worried they can find a capable experienced depth player to add to that unit.

We all get too worked up sometimes about big names and who we sign…….Then a guy like Shaq Barrett comes in under the radar and breaks a massive franchise record…….Don’t get caught up on names. Bowles did a great job developing DBs last year. I say he’s earned the benefit to assume he knows what he’s got on our backend and who we need.

    GO BUCS!!!

Don’t sleep on D’cota Dixon…..he was extremely impressive before his injury last year…..coaches were very high on him.

I like SMB in the nickel with Dean and Davis outside.

    TBBF I forgot about Dixon

    SMB, making Michigan proud!!

I heard Joe had Crystal Balls, just sayin

With SMB, Davis, and Dean, we have 3 young talented CB’s. Another vet like Logan Ryan or Darqueze Dennard would help in the slot. But overall I think our current group has plenty of talent barring injury.

  13. Joe in Michigan Says:

It’d be nice if Ryan Smith would develop and be a decent CB. I’m not holding my breath, though.

Best 3 Young CB’s in the NFL!

Jamal Dean is a freak! Carlton Davis is Lion!

And SMB is smooth and smart!

    Good job Licht!

We should all admit we were wrong.

But I still say they MJ Stewart pick should have been an OG/C prodpect.

Jensen has back problems and is very expensive.

Cappa is tough but slow as molasses.

We still need a RG! Cappa is gonna get Tom de-capitated!

Most people forget Dakota Dixon (I think was his name) was coming on strong before hitting IR in preseason. Him along with Evans make our S depth not too shabby.
    *If healthy

    FS
    Whitehead
    Andrew Adams /SMB (sometimes?)
    Dakota Dixon

    SS
    Winfield Jr.
    Evans
    Stewart (special teams)

  16. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

I like D’Cota Dixon. Great instincts but on the slower side for a DB – ran a 4.81 in the 40 last year. Seems to have better football speed than suggest by this time.

  17. Hodad Says:

He does look like a pup in that picture. We forget how young these players are coming out sometimes. It’s good that our young secondary is on the right path, just takes some time.
