The Rock Is Coming

December 17th, 2019

Bucs TEs may have to beast.

It seems only logical.

The Bucs have two tight ends that in the past have either been Pro Bowl-worthy or made plays worthy of a Pro Bowler. This year under Bucs coach Bruce Arians, not so much.

That could change Saturday.

Today in his weekly presser, Mr. Entertainment, America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, said with the rash of injuries to Bucs receivers, he told tight ends O.J. Howard and Cam Brate to expect “the rock” because it is coming.

Joe spoke with Brate in the Bucs’ locker room today and asked about that conversation. A big ol’ smile stretched Brate’s face.

“Yeah, maybe,” Brate said. “You never know. We are missing three of our top receivers. Someone is going to have to get the ball thrown to them.

“We will be ready.”

One thing that frustrates the hell out of Joe is how getting the ball to the talented tight ends seems to be an afterthought.

Then again, you look at the result, and it’s hard to quibble.

But yeah, with Mike Evans out; with Chris Godwin out; with Scotty Miller out, if you have two good tight ends, just by process of elimination Brate and Howard should get more targets.

Joe would love to see Howard line up at slot receiver.

    Yes please more O.J..

  2. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

    Yes sign the Rock.

  3. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

or only if the bucs had a running game

  4. JimmyJack Says:

OJ was the worst player on our offense last week I thought. Yes he did make some nice catches but he was downright ugly doing the rest of his job.

Guess I’m glad we got his hands now without our receivers but OJ does not look like a good fit for this team long-term. Not feeling it.

  5. PUGS&BUCS Says:

If only sometime in the past there was an opportunity to take a RB instead of a TE in the draft. Then RIGHT NOW we’d have an effective TE AND a scary running back as opposed to NO running back and 2 TEs.

  6. Dapostman Says:

Need to get the RB’s more involved in the pass game. Especially RoJo outside and in space. I would expect the RB’s to have 10+ catches this game.

  7. Adrnagy Says:

As of right now … I’ll take brate over OJ. I see oj catch a pass and I feel a fumble coming. Brate is a lock. But let’s see this two games. But yes game plan has to be TE vs Texans LB/S imo.

  8. gbobucsfan Says:

    Perriman !!!!!

I have been saying the same thing for weeks. He could drop 15 lbs and permanently move to WR.

  10. Dewey Selmon Says:

Speaking of Rocks, what ever happened to Rock Riley? I just realized he doesn’t report here anymore?

    Ditto…..including Dare on 3rd down…..

    Screens, dumps….whatever…..

    @Dewey Selmon
Rock Riley is recovering from the beating he took from his Girl
She heard Jon Gruden say “Pound The Rock”, and she took it literally, LOL

  13. Matthew Fifer Says:

I tried to do the Rock diet once a few years ago…I survived about 15 hours before I was throwing up. Dude has to eat 8 times a day (not just a snack) to maintain his size. It’s absolutely insane.

  14. Kobe Faker Says:

    “Goofy lookin Cam Brate

What was that sunday vs Detroit

This is why he was cut from Brees and the Saints

cant separate. doesn’t have the quickness and speed

Goofy cant get open if his life depended on it

Kobe wants Tanner as our #2 receiving TE”

  15. Slugglife Says:

So Miller gets his name mentioned by everybody now huh? Wasn’t long ago nobody wanted him on the field, much less getting thrown to.

Wasn’t long ago he wasn’t supposed to be anything but a practice squad guy. Hard to keep up with the GMs around here.

  16. Slugglife Says:

I’d like to see goofy put you in a chokehold

  17. Matthew Fifer Says:

    @Kobe

“Goofy” makes more money in a year than you will in your life. “Goofy” has led/tied for TD’s for a TE several times in the last handful of years. “Goofy” has talent at something, of which you have none. “Goofy” has an Ivy league education/degree, and you’ve likely never even went on a college campus tour.

  18. Slugglife Says:

    See above ^^^^”Kobe”

  19. Adam Lakers Carolla Says:

    Perfect picture for that headline

  20. Slugglife Says:

    Goofy would steal your girl.

Can’t believe your mama doesn’t slap you on the daily and tell you to STFU. Such a stupid take yet again. Tanner Hudson was the Steve Schnell of TEs. Making plays against future rent a car managers and bouncers. Brate has years of success and Hudson hasn’t even had a good game.

  22. unbelievable Says:

They should line OJ up in the slot and out wide all day long.

Get creative and put him next to a tackle to chip a DE/LB first before running downfield.

  23. Isaac haggins Says:

Can OJ Howard run someone over for the love embarrassing big men !!

  24. Jean Lafitte Says:

I’d like to know why Arians until now didn’t utilize Justin Watson over Miller, and Perriman more. He has the length and speed, and catches the ball in traffic.

  25. BucEmUp Says:

The fact that Howard HASNT lined up at WR is a joke.

Also….I was thinking the other day about the run game. How about drafting another DT to replace VEA and moving him to RB? A guy like that would move piles and he played the position!!! I’m tired of the prototypical rb in the league. We need a new “BUS”!!!

  26. Hoops Says:

There’s a good reason he calls himself faker. He has no clue what it takes to be a football player in the NFL, let alone catch touchdowns. Go back to where you came from Kobe and crawl back under that rock. Your opinions are idiotic and very lame.

  27. Mike Johnson Says:

The rock can come all it wants. Them Texans are rough and tough. Gonna take a great..Defensive effort to beat these guys. Watkins ain’t the Detroit QB.

  28. SKBucsFan Says:

I like that idea BucEmUp. Why not? It would be fun to watch.

  29. fernando diaz Says:

Kobe Faker eating his words he cant find nothing to bitch and moan.
BUCS are winning and his rants now are futile.

  30. Defense Rules Says:

Alaskan … “Yes sign the Rock.” Read an article about The Rock not too long ago. Didn’t know that he was the starting DT for Univ of Miami when Warren Sapp got there. When Sapp came in, he took the starting job away from The Rock & the rest is history. Well, not quite, Rock played up in Canada it turned out but couldn’t break into the NFL so he did something else. Ya … a boatload of millions something else. Personally I really enjoy all of his movies.

  31. BigHog Says:

BucEmUp/ that wouldn’t be a “BUS” that would be a “TRACTOR TRAILER “!!

  32. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

This is the opportunity for the tight ends to show Arians why and how he should use them.

  33. J Says:

Having Cyril Grayson, who runs a sub 4.3 40 on one side and Perriman who has also run a sub 4.3 40 will have to be respected. Yes, I expect this is Howard and Brates best chance to prove they still belong. Could be a field of screens too.

  34. J Says:

    *field day of screens.

  35. unbelievable Says:

Houston has the best defense we’ve played in the last month at least.

Also a good offense. This game was going to be tough even if we were completely healthy.

If anyone thinks / expects Jameis to put up another 4TD 450yard day, you are setting yourself up for extreme disappointment. We are missing 3 of our top 4 WRs and have no run game.

    Be realistic people.

I’m not saying we can’t win, but this will be a very tough game and a good test for our squad.

I would also advise people not to jump off a building if we lose. Again, Houston is a tough team and this will be a tough game. Winnable, but tough.

  36. J Says:

No doubt we matchup well. Looking at their season..they’re absolutely beatable. I expect Watson to take his shots, and early to try and rattle the DB’s but hopeful a hungry and more polished secondary holds their ground and takes advantage of some tight throws.

  37. BrianBucs Says:

Maybe, just maybe, this may be a good week try really very hard to Run the football.

  38. james west Says:

brate over howard all day long in my opinion, oj drops to many passes, and can’t block worth a damn, not as physical as we thought he would be, soft i think
