Bruce Arians Lauds Devin White

November 18th, 2019

There was a bright spot on the field for the Buccaneers defense yesterday in the eyes of Bucco Bruce Arians.

Arians was gushing a bit after the blowout loss for his prized rookie, savior linebacker Devin White. (He might also have gushed over rookie cornerback Jamel Dean, but the Bucs couldn’t find a spot for him on their standout defense.)

White recorded a career high 11 solo tackles. His athleticism on the field is obvious, though he still is a work in progress, which is exciting and a little frustrating.

“He’s flying around. He’s making plays. He’s healthy again,” Arians told the Buccaneers Radio Network after the game. “He’s going to be a great, great player for us down the road. We just got to play better around him.”

Joe is eager to see what the final six games of this lost season brings for White.

Joe really, really wants to see White’s blitzing skills emerge. So far, they haven’t. And Joe doesn’t want to believe the Bucs drafted a linebacker at No. 5 overall who can’t get to the quarterback and is just ok in coverage.

I think we had the intention that a interior linebacker would be superman at blitzing and that no interior linebacker could blitz that well. anyway gump gonna gump good news is even though we may have drafted him for the wrong reasons he is still a good player.

  2. Defense Rules Says:

Your last paragraph is petty Joe. The ROOKIE White played his heart out yesterday. The ones who need to be under the microscope today are BA & TB. Playing Mike Edwards at nickel while sitting Jamel Dean was dumb, dumb, dumb. Edwards has made a bunch of costly mistakes at safety, but playing him at nickel instead of playing SMB there (who’s played nickel) & putting Dean outside was a ridiculous and costly experiment. Especially against a HOF QB like Drew Brees. He picked apart the middle of the field.

    “Lol

    This is comical

Kobe will make it nice and short (no pun)

5’11 short arms WILL NEVER EVER IN A MILLION YEARS WILL BE EFFECTIVE RUSHING THE QB. NEVER EVER

Physically, mathematically, scientifically, genetically and possibly even sexually CAN NOT BE DONE”

  4. Unimpressed Says:

That’s exactly what we drafted Joe. I hear he can do a lot of push ups though!

  5. BigPoppaBuc Says:

He looked fast, physical and confident yesterday… Rookie turning the corner. Kind of like Vea. Next year the middle of our defense will be very stout.

  6. passthebuc Says:

Sell the team to Belichick and have Tom retire and become GM. or Visa-Versa. I am sure the Glazers are planning to move the team to London.

  7. Wombat Says:

Jameis Winston, Kyle Allen make strong case for Colin Kaepernick’s return… the headline in Yahoo Sports!!!

  8. Bob in Valrico Says:

if you didn’t see good things from White yesterday, then you weren’t trying
hard enough. IMO, both Beckwith and White seem more comfortable at Mike tha Kwon was in hie first year.

  9. Bird Says:

Nah . Ndog thinks he’s garbage

    Jameis is great though
    4 turnovers were Arians fAult

  10. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Devin White stood out and made many tackles…..that’s the good news…..but the reason why he had tackles wasn’t so good……Saints RBs got through our usually stout Dline…….
White will be a great, great Buc. I am excited for his future.

There you go with free passes and wrong word usage again… great, great buc ehhh. Lol there have been 2 great bucs in 42 years sapp and selmon…. now you are including a lost rookie who was overdrafted and the wrong pick at 5 in the great category… making fun of buc fan is so easy… there are no dumber or desperate fans than optimistic clueless bucfan

Felt bad for saying DEvWhite was no good early on. Gotta admit I jumped the gun, he played with so much passion, him and Lavonte.
NdUMBiCan SUH looks just like the type of player “Trash” Licht spends money on. Lichtenstein is the kinda guy that drives a 2002 Mercedes Benz S500 thinking he is baller.

“Trash” LICHT is king of the smart witty move. Actually you suck

    Fire 🔥 Licht
    Draft 📈 QB

  13. #1bucfan Says:

The dude was all over the field now only if everyone else could play like him

  14. Miller5252 Says:

White looks like he’ll be a good player if he continues to get learn. I’m a fan of him, but yesterday you could see rookie all over him. I know he had a good game with tackles and all around the field, but it was always down the field. If he’s as fast as we seen Kamara should have been stopped right away or the ball never thrown to him because White has him on lockdown. I hope more study turns this kid into a monster for years to come.

  15. deuceswild78 Says:

how is Josh Allen working out for Jacksonville…. mic drop

  16. Mister Negative Nancy Says:

Well he better be gushing over him after he blew a #5 pick to get him.

  17. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

I am a fan of Devin White. I am glad we have him.

  18. 2020 What is the bucs future plan? Says:

TEAM GLAZER NEEDS TO WAKE fUDGE UP! tHEY HAVE BEEN BAMBOOZELED AGAIN

  19. Etzel Says:

Another year with one the best LB units in the league…. how well has that been going for us?? Maybe we’ll use our Top 10 pick on another LB, hopefully from LSU. Then we’ll 4sure be able to stop the run.

  20. 813bucboi Says:

DW got smoked in coverage….kamara caught every pass on either him or edwards…..

    DW hasnt stood out imo….

    GO BUCS!!!!

  21. Troy Says:

My wife laughed at this guy posing when he tackled a guy 8 yards down the field. Give me a break. He was late reading the play and late making the tackle.

  22. doctor_berto Says:

Wasn’t Devin White drafted ahead of Allen so he could contain the elite RBs in the division? This team is a joke. Now we have an average MLB instead of a stud pass rusher.

  23. doctor_berto Says:

deuceswild, Josh Allen has 8 sacks so far and is at a much more important position in the new pass happy NFL.

  24. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

Devin White was a bright point yesterday.
So was Cameron Brate. LaVonte David too.

And the biggest one is the fact that we FINALLY have found a KICKER that can be with us for the next 10 years.

But unfortunately, that was about it.

  25. Buccfan37 Says:

Arians pointing out the obvious as if nobody noticed. Anything to obscure the overall suckage from the rest of the team and coaching staff… or is that coaching stiff.

  26. unbelievable Says:

Our blitz packages suck. Most of them are delayed blitzes with our extra rusher starting 5 – 6 yards deep form the line of scrimmage. And they don’t get home.

It makes zero sense to me. I thought Bowles was supposed to be creative with his blitz packages?

    Not seeing it.

LVD and Whitehead are the only consistently good players on D. Our D-line has it’s moments, but also disappears far too often. JPP looked completely disinterested in playing yesterday. Same with Suh for most of the game.

  27. Buczilla Says:

Eugene Marve Jr. is starting to play a lot better and I am happy for him and the team. However, there isn’t a single universe in existence where what he has done to date was worth him being taken at 5 (!) overall. Licht and Arians hyped this kid to no end and he isn’t even remotely close to what they said he would be this year. I hope he makes me look like a fool someday, but I’d much rather have Josh Allen and his 8 sacks than White.

  28. Mike Johnson Says:

Devin White is very good at making tackles/plays after the opposing offense has done their damage. And then he’s right there to..take’em down after a nice 20 yrd gain. Can’t make no pro bowl like that sonny!

  29. Rich Says:

He continues to miss tackles that average NFL lb make….he has been just awful in coverage…he cant get there on the blitz pkg but he sure can run all over the field!!!! I hope he develops into what we expected from a #5 pick but I just dont see it. Lavonte is still continously showing him where he belongs, hes still making most tackles around the neck and shoulders but he sure can run all over the field!!! We need players who can take ownership and at 5 we need a player to make splash gamechanging pkays…
