“We’ll Fix That; He Needs To Be On The Field More”

November 17th, 2019

Anyone miss Mark Duffner?

A new fix for the Bucs secondary is coming for Game 11, Bruce Arians promised after today’s game.

You can’t make this stuff up.

Rookie cornerback Jamel Dean was a hero in last Sunday’s win against the Cardinals with four passes defensed, including a likely game-saving interception. But today, Dean was rarely on the field.

The Bucs opted to play lots of zone and have safety Mike Edwards play nickel with Sean Murphy-Bunting and Carlton Davis outside at cornerback.

Dean didn’t make the cut. Arians seemed to say it was a mistake: “We’ll fix that; he needs to be on the field more.”

The Bucs defense is bad, arguably the very worst in the NFL. They finally have a hot (for the Bucs) cornerback, a rookie gaining confidence, and he lands on the bench.

Nice.

  1. Colorado Says:

Bruce Arians yet another coach to scam the Glazers out of cash.

  2. Mark Says:

Is this statement an f’img joke?

  3. Petty Officer Buc Says:

It is baffling who this staff loves and thereby forces onto the field.

SMB over Jamal Dean on the outside?
Scotty Miller and Perriman over Brate/Howard/Justin Watson?
    Dare over Ronald Jones/Peyton Barber?

Why why why??? Does Bruce Arians owe favors to their parents? Does Byron Leftwich take out thousand dollar bets and parlays that they will get touchdowns in a game?

  4. Wesley Says:

Is it so hard to find capable professional coaching?

  5. Easy Says:

You have the best graded corner in the NFL last week and playing against Breesus he doesn’t see the field?! This coaching staff is just maddening. I’m over this team and I’ll keep watching hoping for a change. But that won’t happen till the Glazers sell this organization and Jason Licht is removed from his position.

  6. Jean Lafitte Says:

we stopped Michael Thomas from killing us but Brees is the “REAL” franchise QB who reads defenses well and gets the ball to open receivers in 2.6 seconds. Pretty hard to sack a guy who has that kind of command and knowledge of defensive schemes. Jameis NOT

  7. Pa Privateer Says:

Why in the hell would you run a zone coverage against a Hall of Fame quarterback?

  8. Pa Privateer Says:

    @Petty Officer

That pretty much sums it up

  9. Jean Lafitte Says:

The Bucs tried to emulate what the Falcons did last week and the Saints adjusted to it. Probably should have used different looks than what the Falcons used.

  10. Kobe Faker Says:

2018 bucs are better than the 2019 Bucs

    worse coaching

Koetter is going to cook some Jimmy dean links next week

Koetter going to show Bucfans BA is a scam

  11. StonedBuc Says:

What a bunch of crap this is. Coaches out smarting themselves.

  12. Colorado Says:

Why are we not putting OJ Howard or Cam Brate out there in the slot? BA’s offense may not utilize tight ends, but why the hell could we not line up Howard out there instead of Scotty Miller or Breshad Perriman?

  13. JimmyJack Says:

Corners for sure weren’t great today…….I don’t know the numbers but from what it looked like most of the damage we gave up in passing today seemed to be right over the middle and out of backfield.

Poor coverage by LBs and safeties seemed to be a large part of the problem. Like it has for many years now.

  14. Josh Brown Says:

Here’s another personnel recommendation for Bruce and Leftwitch…. Let’s put our FIVE BEST SKILL PLAYERS ON THE FIELD TOGETHER!!!!!!!

EVANS, GODWIN, BRATE, HOWARD & ROJO!

    LET’S SEE MORE 2WR, 2TE, 1RB PACKAGES!!!!

  15. Warrenfb12 Says:

We can’t find a smart coach who gets the most out of the best players man. It’s a comedy at this point.

  16. Josh Brown Says:

Line up OJ and Mike outside for contested/jump balls. Have Brate and Godwin working the slot. Rojo working the flats and dump offs.

  17. Jean Lafitte Says:

we only scored 17 points in a league that’s slanted toward the passing game. Can’t win many games like that. Even without the 14 points the offense gifted the Saints we still lost 20 – 17

    PATHETIC

  18. gotbbucs Says:

We’re over halfway through the season. Who is and isn’t on the field and who should and shouldnt be out there shouldnt be a debatable mystery. By now if you don’t know how to use the players on your roster you should be ashamed to call yourself a football coach.

This is what you get when you have an enormous coaching staff and a head coach that sits up in his Ivory Tower never laying hands on a game plan. This is the most dysfunctional coaching staff we’ve had here recently and that is really saying something.

  19. jerseybuc Says:

Spread the field. Make them match up with our elite WR’s and two pass catching TE’s. Get the ball out QUICK. Winston is consistently late on recognition and takes too long to deliver the ball. He is not the answer. Especially looking for a big pay day. Turn the damn page.

  20. Warrenfb12 Says:

If there is change at OBP ( I am assuming it would only be if Ariana retires) the glazers need to hire a football overseer (VP or whatever). What they have been doing post Gruden isn’t working.

  21. D-Rome Says:

    Agreed Colorado, paid Glazer vacation.

  22. ElioT Says:

It takes a village to be this sh***y.

Everyone has a role in it, from Jason “30-60” Licht, BA and the “World’s Largest Coaching Staff, to every player on a this highly paid roster”.

The Bucs have 25 total turnovers on the season.
    • 2 TO’s per game usually equates to around a 40% chance of winning
    • 3 TO’s per game drops the percentage down to about 18%

Our Bucs are averaging 2.5 TO’s per game.

You’re just not going to win football games with sloppy play like that.

Until they fix that, they’ll lose more often than not.

  23. rhenry Says:

@JeseyBuc says “turn the page.” I say flush the toilet.

  24. Ricordo Says:

If any fixes need to be made to the Bucs, I’d like to propose that changes start by replacing the Bucs mascot’s name from Captain Fear to Captain RUN-FOR-YOUR-LIVES!

It sounds so much better hyphenated.

  25. Bird Says:

Webster , lamarcus , touchdown tampa bay , july joe (who is rod munch ?) webster and da pissman

    No word ?

  26. bojim Says:

Man it’s ‘Duh’ no matter who you talk to
    .

  27. 813bucboi Says:

Why not fix it in game

    GO BUCS

  28. MadMax Says:

    signed -we’re tanking

    All good though.

  29. Yucs19 Says:

I don’t see this ending well.
Who to keep; Marpet, Jensen, Kappa, Godwin, Evans, Rojo (possibly)
Defense; Vea, David, White, Whitehead, Dean, Davis, Bunting.
Wow Licht what a job you did securing a core of players on both sides of the ball problem is still don’t have a capable, consistent qb, two decent off tackles, a capable interior rusher, and a shutdown corner.

  30. Isaac haggins Says:

Please please please get rid of Todd Bowles !!! Seriously how do you have Edwards playing Thomas , EVER !!! This Guy was a laughing stock with the jets and this is exactly what I figured we would see !!!
OHHH !!! BTW This o line is the worst in Football and not one member of it should be aloud to enter any public establishment in Tampa !!!! People , I’m telling you they are soft and lazy !!! D Smith should give half his contract back !!!
Arians you did what had to be done with Hardgraves now do it with Lefty and Bowles , Both you guys !!! By by !!! NFL 100 percent favoritism jobs and Bowles is worse than Lefty !!!

  31. down in the dirt doug Says:

We all know who has to go—starts with an L,NOT GOING TO HAPPEN BECAUSE OUR OWNERS LIKE TO PLAY NICE,NICE.

  32. Buccfan37 Says:

You can get used to perennial losers. Just ask Buc fans.

  33. orlbucfan Says:

Brees is 40+ years old. The offensive/stinking play calling of BA made him look like the young prodigy the Chargers drafted decades ago. Man, am I beyond disgusted!!

  34. Desanova Says:

This was game 10 and probably the 8th starting secondary. Still evaluating talent. They now just hurt Dean’s confidence so next week when Dean is at CB and Edwards is back at safety, he’ll be back to his early form. I thought SMB was the nickel and Dean and Davis were outside? That seemed to work the best and we blew it up. Sigh.

  35. tmaxcon Says:

where are all my “At least we have good coaching now” friends??????

    garbage franchise top to bottom.

  36. Isaac haggins Says:

Arians , Do It !!! Do what you know the right thing is !!! Todd your free to seek a job elsewhere!!!

  37. Isaac haggins Says:

Btw D Smith has to go Also !!! You can’t ever win the division with him , plain and simple !!! D Smith you got your qb killed today and your body language assured everyone you don’t care , you are the puss oozed from an infection and it’s on the whole line !!!

  38. TDTB Says:

You put you best players on the field. WTF is this coaching staff doing? Did they forget how to game plan or have they always been this bad?

  39. lambchop Says:

This coaching staff is like a JV player trying out for Varsity. Or you could call it highway robbery of the Glazers.

Don’t blame the ownership. They are trying to fix it. But, you have a turd for a GM.

  40. whaaatttsss uuuup Says:

I ASKED THIS QUESTION ALL DAY YESTERDAY…. THE KID DOES ALL THE RIGHT THINGS AND PLAYS HIS BUTT OFF AND I WAS SO PUMPED TO SEE SOMEONE IMPROVE AND WAS REALLY ANXIOUS TO SEE WHAT HE COULD DO AGAINST A REAL RECEIVER WHEN ACTUALLY READY TO PLAY AND HE NEVER EVEN GETS IN EXCEPT ON SPECIAL TEAMS?!?!? WHAT KIND OF STUPIDITY IS GOING ON DOWN THERE!!….. THIS IS RUN LIKE A YMCA FLAG FOOTBALL TEAM WHERE THE COACHES ARE JUST VOLUNTEERS AND ONLY PRACTICE ONCE A WEEK!! …. I AM STARTING TO THINK THEY ARE LOSING ON PURPOSE TO GET A BETTER DRAFT PICK? ./.. “OH DEAN? YEAH HE PLAYED WAAAAY TOO GOOD LAST WEEK TO START HIM! HE NEEDS TO BE ON THE BENCH THIS WHOLE GAME! WE DONT WANT HIM TO ACCIDENTALLY GET A BIG PICK OR SOMETHING!!” …. FLIPPN UNREAL INEPTITUDE MAN!! JUST UNREAL!!… BUT HEY, AT LEAST WE HAVE IDIOTS LIKE YOU MAKING SURE THE GUY WHO THREW 2 PICKS IN THE LAST 5 MINUTES OF THE GAME (ONE BEING A PICK 6) COMES BACK FOR A FEW MORE YEARS RIGHT!!!
