Battered Jameis

October 6th, 2019

Hits piling up at a record pace

As a rookie, Jameis Winston led the NFL in quarterback hits absorbed with 109.

A year later, he took another 109 hits.

According to official NFL records, Jameis has absorbed 37 QB hits this season, including eight today against the Saints. For 2019, that puts America’s Quarterback on pace for 118 QB hits. And considering Demar Dotson is now injured and there’s ample evidence that Dare Ogunbowale is a poor pass blocker and the horrid Bucs pass defense will lead to Jameis throwing often, that’s a recipe for a battered quarterback.

Jameis is strong and can take the punishment. And of course, some of those hits are on him. But over time this is a disturbing trend.

What’s Jameis’ shelf life if he’s going to repeatedly get hammered more than most quarterbacks?

That’s a rhetorical question, not a cue for the Jameis haters to start screaming he should be gone by this month’s trade deadline.

His shelf life is Jim Plunkett.

He will go somewhere else and win a couple of rings with a real organization.

  2. Max Says:

We need a right tackle replacement badly!

  3. Tampabuscsbro Says:

Yes good thing Winston has such a great game and did such a good job QBing this game. he holds the ball for way too long and can’t dump it off when getting blitzed.

  4. ElBajito43 Says:

Guys you can follow (“TRASH LICHT”) on Face. Bo k
I will be organizing protests to FIRE 🔥 LICHT

  5. tmaxcon Says:

That offensive line is pure garbage with or without Dotson. Jameis agent should shut him down until he can escape the black hole that is Tampa bay Buccaneers football…. if bay area had any pride they’d move Buccaneers to London themselves to get rid of the glazers stench

  6. OBP Says:

For all the people pounding the table for us to get rid of Winston you needn’t worry, at the rate the O-line is letting him get steamrolled the opposing teams we face the next 11 weeks will get rid of him for you.

  7. Tye Says:

you could just tell during that 1st drive he throws a near int and then 2 plays later an obvious int luckily erased by a Saints penalty that this was going to be one of his clunkers… Not his worst by any means but still a clunker!

  8. TonyC Says:

They’d better get their stuff together next week otherwise I’ll disconnect like I did last year.

  9. OBP Says:

Also would like to mention that this is what happens when you refuse to take an O-lineman in round 1 or 2 for the past 4 years. Our trash O-line is all on Jason Licht. The only redeeming factor I see is that we have Ali and can move on from Jensen in the off season for no cap hit, though Cappa has been okay I guess.

  10. Pelbuc61 Says:

Licht + Glazers = eternal losing!

  11. Zzbuc Says:

Joe u can say whatever in the OL, and probably you will be allright, but is also true tha JW is a slow QB getting rid of the ball!!!!!

  12. Bird Says:

joez meant to say Jameis is strong and I want to give him some punishment badly

  13. webster Says:

    @ tampabucsbro

Jameis was not the issue. Even moose johnson said on a few passes jameis had no check down options and many times he had no time to throw. I get it, you hate winston but lets be real. The oline is still the problem, secondary is a problem. The bucs have bigger issues than jameis. Im sorry you missed the fact that jameis has been number 1 against the blitzed in all catagories this year. You are a typical uneducated buc fan. But carry on

  14. Buczilla Says:

Hold up, our fantastic gm had the foresight to make sure that the cupboard wasn’t bare behind an old, oft injured starting right tackle… Uh nevermind.

  15. Cgmaster27 Says:

@tampabucsbro coming into the game, jameis had a perfect qbr against the blitz genius at least pretend to know whats going on troll.Problem is, the saints didnt have to blitz. They got pressure with just 4. Did you even
    Watch the game?

  16. Rick Says:

Eh sign em. He played well. BA has worked his magic and me I’m convinced that he’s a franchise qb. At the moment, secondary and OL are in need of some attention.

  17. Bucs Fan Since ‘76 Says:

Tye is correct. After his first couple errant throws you could tell Bad Jameis was in the building today. It’s a disturbing trend.

  18. Ndog Says:

My goodness you people are STUPID!

  19. JimmyJack Says:

Dotson is injured? I absolutely trust Joe to be 100% accurate with his report but I call some BS on the orginizations desigination of considering him injured.

For sure I could be wrong but when he landed bellyup on his last block attempt I am certain that’s when they decided to pull him from that game. I ain’t buyin what they’re selling.

In fact I hope he isn’t injured…..That would tell me this staff will not tolerate the type of inept play Dotson had today.

  20. 813bucboi Says:

    What happened to O.J.s blocking…

    GO BUCS

  21. down in the dirt doug Says:

Before the draft our fans were hollering for a quality defensive back and a couple of offensive linemen.Seems that we were at a funeral hollering at someone no longer of this earth.DID SOMETHING I HAVE NEVER DONE BEFORE—-TURNED OFF THE GAME AT THE END OF THE THIRD PERIOD!!!!!!!!!!

  22. DB55 Says:

Dotsons butt hurts from getting slammed into it. But hey he gives interviews so let’s keep it all in perspective

  23. BucsBandit Says:

Winston gets battered because he EATS BLITZES. Again and again and again.

Elite QBs do something called AUDIBLE when the blitz is obviously coming. He should be torching defenses with quick passes to the flat.

And don’t even get me started and so many of his seems-like-5-minute-ball-holds. Dude sits back there and takes FOREVER to make a decision. This gives opposing Defenses even more motivation to pin their ears back and go after him because they know they’ll have 5 or 6 chances on the SAME PLAY to sack Jameis if they just keep after him and don’t quit after the initial rush.

  24. Loyaltotheend Section 312 Says:

Get rid of the baller quicker
Make quick decisions and let’s keep waiting on these coaches to coach up the talent

    Same crap every year

  25. Dubcity6 Says:

You know I’ve only been screaming about the OL for 3 years. Nice to see Joe finally catching up

  26. Defense Rules Says:

Bucs’ offense stunk it up today, despite putting 24 points on the board. IMO the Saints ‘gifted’ us that last TD series so we could run out the clock for them (Bucs weren’t playing to win when Jameis kept passing in the center of the field with 1 min to go … yes we got the TD and Jameis was 5-for-6 but it ate up almost the time remaining). Plus the Bucs’ defense ‘gifted’ the offense great field position at the Saints’ 20-yard line after the INT by SMB.

Looking at the boxscore, Bucs’ TOP was 26:33 to 33:27 for the Saints. Bucs had 56 plays to the Saints 77 plays (not counting S/T plays & penalties). We had 11 drives total … 6 punts (22 plays), 3 TDs (25 plays), 1 FG (8 plays), 1 Downs (1 play). Bucs’ offense played a turnover-free game, but accomplished very little.

Bucs’ defense also stunk it up today IMO. Our DLine got no pressure on the Saints’ QBs to speak of, and as a consequence we got eaten up with short passes. Our Secondary looked slow against Thomas (11 catches for 182 yds … yuck), as well as against their other receivers. VHIII got successfully picked on all afternoon, and losing Carlton Davis to the questionable ejection call really hurt.

Well, I guess the best we can say is ‘time to start another winning streak’. HOPEFULLY the next streak lasts longer than 1 game.

  27. Alanbucsfan Says:

Jameis didn’t have his best receiver today.
Evans had only 3 targets all game.
Either Apple has his number, or Evans just checked out today.
The number one difference in the game was the play of Thomas vs Evans

  28. July Joe Says:

    @BucsBandit

Jameis is THE BEST QB IN THE NFL against the BLITZ you utter moron.

Check the stats coming coming into this game … he had a PERFECT PASSER RATING against the the blitz …

Some “fans” are too stupid for words.

  29. BucsBandit Says:

105 yards passing for an entire game. LOL

  30. BrianBucs Says:

When you have a long, slow delivery, you go through your reads and progressions slowly, you have some weak spots in your offensive line, you hold the ball too long and you playing in an offensive system that calls for many downfield slow developing plays, you will get hit a lot.

  31. DB55 Says:

    Bandit

You truly are lowly educated. Do you read or does making meth take up too much time?

    https://www.joebucsfan.com/2019/10/light-blitzing-smart-blitzing/

  32. DB55 Says:

What quarterback leads the NFL when blitzed? That would be America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston. Against the blitz he’s the top dog when it comes to completion percentage, yards per attempt, touchdowns and passer rating.

Will the Saints blitz Jameis? That’s a good question.
    ————-
On one play the saints brought three 3 rushers and got to Jay Miss in less than 2 seconds. Lmao. You guys are funny man really really funny

  33. adam from ny Says:

    yeah dot got sonned…then pulled…like pork 🙂

  34. BucsBandit Says:

105 total passing yards when the game mattered. Enough said.

  35. DB55 Says:

    Bandit

Not sure if you have a tv but if so watch gb vs cowgirls so you can see Rodgers doing the exact same thing.

  36. The Coroner Says:

    ? Trade for Trent Williams.
    ? Trade for Jalen Ramsey.

  37. Pewter power Says:

If you just need a blocking tight end and you dont want to use him as a weapon there is no reason to not get 1st round pick for oj Howard. I dont think his lack of production is all on him, the routes they run him on are pointless and he does seem a bit slower as well. But hardly any seam routes it seems so dumb how he is being used. The talk about not having tight end production is real this is a weakness of BA offensive scheme.

  38. Capt. Reality Says:

Jameis can go to 10 other teams and he will still just be Jameis.
He looks like an abused puppy. The first hint of pressure and he panics and starts bobbing and weaving and looking for a place to go down.
The Panthers will have adjusted and we will have not.
ME13 is the guy I fear will leave. Cut Hargraves and let the rebuild begin.

  39. Pittsshore Says:

Well, at least he got to get his usual end of game gravy stats. I cannot wait to see him suck in London, in person. His last game.

  40. Pittsshore Says:

He sure did have happy feet today. Plays scared in NOLA

  41. Jaywill Says:

Winston was blasted on the possession of the game by two unblock defenders

  42. tnew Says:

This was a bad game plan poorly executed.. Worst of both worlds

  43. Fire the fans Says:

His last game? Hahaha good one

  44. Im tired and 87 is right Says:

We have to start drafting oline and finally protect Jameis consistently. When he has time to throw he’s money. When he can’t step into the throw he’s very inaccurate and catastrophic. Most teams should learn from what happened to Andrew Luck. Before you draft a QB make sure you build your line or all will just fail.

  45. Bob in Valrico Says:

Jameis was affected by the pressure. Too many consecutive run plays. The coaching sat and watched him struggle. Big coaching failure to keep doing the same thing over and over again.

  46. SteelStudBuc Says:

Jameis wasn’t very good today. Just garbage time stats. There were the 2 interceptions called back on penalties, he threw at least 3 more balls that should’ve been picked… multiple under/over throws… could’ve been a 5 interception day… he got lucky.

The Saints defense is pretty good… I had a feeling the Saints would win. Bucs came out flat.

  47. Gettinthebucs Says:

We got whipped up front today on both sides of the ball. Not going to win many games that way.

  48. bucnole Says:

Well why in the natural %^&* was Dare even in the game so much??? Was there an injury to Barber or Jones I didn’t hear about?? We even had TJ Logan take a snap or 2.
Like WTF was that? I don’t understand the players that played and the ones that didn’t get enough looks at all. The play calling and the personnel groupings were sketchy AF all game long.

  49. TonyC Says:

“We just got beat by our future QB.” 10-6-19

  50. tgregs Says:

Should be called lame ass….what an idiot and a waste of a pick. It;s set even this pathetic franchise back years but the franchise clings to it’s stupidity. $21.5 for the worst QB in the league?

  51. TonyC Says:

Build the d backfield aggressively. That means signing at least one decent VETERAN CORNER (hello anybody there?) and another vet safety to go along with decent young talent like Whitehead, Edwards…?

  52. TonyC Says:

I always liked Bridgewater and would prefer him over our current starter.

  53. webster Says:

    Tony c

Bridgewater has sucked last week and there has been no qb better than jameis the past 3 weeks. Bridgewater only scored 12 pts last week but won. When has winston ever had a game he could win when only scoring 12 pts? Oh btw, when bridgewater played with the vickings, he only threw the ball 14 times a game. Did you not hear moose johnson say bridgewater said he was selfish and mad he could not throw more because he was not able to due to a strong running game and defense? Did you not hear that bridgewater admitted to being selfish? You blame winston for this lost? You are clueless. Bridgewater is not better than winston. Fyi….bridgewater has won 3 straight games and not once has his defense givining up 30 pts. The past 3 games for the bucs have giving up more than 30 pts each game.

  54. unbelievable Says:

The trolls are really showing how big of idiots they are.

Winston one of the best in the league against the blitz ya dummies.

  55. bkgrime Says:

I swear half of this fan base huffs glue and gets off to hating Jameis. Jameis didn’t play good but nor did he play bad when he has unblocked defenders harassing him all day.

  56. Anonymous Says:

Get rid of the ball, and not to the other team throw it out of bounds, once it is obvious you are going to be sacked. Then all the subsequent hits wont occur, at least without a penalty AND you won’t take all the negative yards for your offense!!! Wow I just had an epiphany! I hope the coach on his next team can teach him this.

  57. Anonymous Says:

In Response to DB55. I think it is very sweet that Mrs Winston defends her son with so much intensity but if you are really going to defend your son, the turnover machine of the entire NFL, by comparing him to Aaron Rodgers people will laugh at you.

  58. Verne Choromanski Says:

Jameis Winston?! Buccaneers’ record is 2-3? Same as Titans, Jaguars, Chargers, und Giants, or maybe Browns?! I want ye tae defeat Carolina Panthers’ rematch in London Games on Sunday, October 13, 2019?! Go Bucs!!!

Trashes the GM for not taking an OL for the past four years and then immediately referenced the player Licht took in round 2, who was drafted along with another 2nd rounder.

  60. Boombang Says:

The new pet complaint of These Winston haters is ” He holds the ball to long or he should throw the ball to his check down receiver”. Hell! Look at replay or video and you’ll see he had. NO CHECK DOWN RECEIVERS on those sacks – they were in MAX PROTECTION……Which means the rb(s) stay in to block and that also means the TE staying in to block….That would be the reason we don’t see our TEs in more pass routes…..Folk always complaining about Winston holding the ball to long….Well people, QBs are competitors by nature….They want to make plays….That is what they get paid to do….I am going give you a perfect example….On Winston’s first TD to Godwin…..Winston took a 7 step drop and the play WAS NOT initially open….The Saints had a good pass rush but Winston stepped up in the pocket and found Godwin 15 yrds down field…..Godwin broke a couple tackles and scored….But my point is Winston held on to the longer than he should have…..But in his nature, his competited nature he wanted to make a play….He had did what the whiner want throw the ball away…..NO TOUCHDOWN…..For you folk who lack football knowledge, receivers have to work open for their QB……And for God sake understand that our receivers aren’t playing against our secondary
