Carlton Davis’ Ejection

October 6th, 2019

Unclear over ejection.

With just over five minutes left in the second quarter, Bucs starting cornerback Carlton Davis got tossed from the game.

And it seemed the Bucs’ pass defense totally collapsed after that.

With the score tied at 10-10 and the Saints having a first-and-20 from the Saints-15, quarterback Teddy Bridgewater stepped back to pass and fired to tight end Jared Cook with a short pass to the right side.

Davis broke up the play, in part, because of a big lick he stuck on Cook. But there was helmet-to-helmet contact.

Not only was Davis slapped with a 15-yard penalty, but the zebras thought Davis’ spearing was so blatant that he got ejected.

It sure smelled like that was the turning point as the Saints were boosted by the extra field position and a first down to march to a touchdown for a 17-10 lead that they would never give up.

Davis said after the game he is still unclear what he did wrong. “I didn’t get a chance to talk with [the referees] or anybody about it,” Davis told Joe.

Davis then described how the play unfolded in his view.

“It was a bang-bang play,” Davis said. “I saw the quarterback throw the ball. I wanted to make a play on the ball but I was a little too late. “I tried to make a clean [play], as clean as I could in that position. I was just playing football. I was trying to make a play to help my team.

“Rules are the rules.”

Davis sure seemed he knew he had broken a rule but was completely unaware of how it happened. Davis also had the demeanor of a person knowing he’s going to get a nastygram from NFL strongman Roger Goodell that will make his paycheck from Team Glazer a bit lighter.

What I saw on the slow mo replay was a guy who left his feet and went helmet to helmet. I think it’s the leaving your feet part and tensing your body like a missile. If dude stays on his feet this call isnt an ejection. I’m not saying he can think that fast at game speed. But I cant disagree with the slow mo. But admittedly slow mo ain’t real time these guys are playing in.

    Zebras over reaction!!
    No doubt on my mind!!
Referres suck!! The Bucs suck to!

Ejection is a direct reflection of a soft gender neutral bubble wrap and hand sanitizer society scared of everything….

  7. Im tired and 87 is right Says:

That was the turning point in the game and I just called into 620 to talk about that. Why don’t you just nail the guy with your face mask? Also just started the Patrick Peterson trade talks…

  8. Im tired and 87 is right Says:

Season ticket holder here and just tired of our Bucs being the blunt of bad jokes. Go Bucs! Snap the head back and lay his arse out!

Joe not for nothing but I believe I heard the game announcers say that it was not the zebras who made the decision to eject Carlton and that it was “New York” who made the decision.

Maybe I misheard but that is my reckolection.

Although what max said is true, I do like where you’re going with this. Lol.

Garbage rule simply instituted to limit player law suits.

  13. Buc50 Says:

It was NY that ejected and for good reason. Soft or not, that was unnecessary.

  14. JimmyJack Says:

Tired we aren’t no brunt of any jokes……Sure maybe here from some kneejerkers but that’s it.

We lost today to a good Saints team. They got a better team then us right now. Don’t sweat it too hard bro. We are young up and coming have already improved from last year and the arrow is still pointed up. We will get and grow and ideally peak at the right time.

Till then don’t sellout on a singular loss. It hurts to lose but their is no shame losing to a real good Saints team. They did already go into Seattle and destroy them and kinda embarrassed the Dallas offense on Monday Night.

They exposed some bad weaknesses on the Bucs and that’s what good teams do. Bruce has been here five game……I know we are very used to seeing problems go unaddressed game to game and year to year but Bruce didn’t have nothing to do with them teams and deserves a chance to figure out our weak spots and improve them.

And I do like the Patrick Peterson idea but I do not see it happening at all.

Them Cardinal fans are really not happy and feel like Tampa Bay stole their HC. They got bitter feelings towards Tampa Bay.

It just sounds like a PR nightmare for Arizona to give/trade us their best player.

I would be totally shocked if they traded us anybody.

Make no mistake about sir the buc are a league wide laughingstock…. they always have been and always will be. 1 year wonders that enshrine backups into ring of underachievement and call mediocrity glory years…. bucs and especially low standard bucfan like yourself are laughingstocks dont sell yourself short…

  17. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I thought ejections only happens with TWO fouls in a game?! That’s what the rulebook says!

  18. BigMacAttack Says:

It’s funny though, over the last 2 decades almost, refs see every infraction the Bucs make, and few their opponents make. I saw 2 face masks on Jameis sacks and neither was called. Both would have continued drives and flipped field position. Some ref crews control games. Many absolutely hate the Bucs. It’s so blatant at times. It makes games hard to watch and kills them player morale. It’s hard enough to beat a good team but when you’re playing the refs too you might as well leave the field and forfeit the game.

You are a troll so buzz off!

  20. The Coroner Says:

VH III was schooled by Michael Thomas.
The Saints’ OL stoned the Bucs’ pass rush.

  21. BigMacAttack Says:

Refs ruin the game. They have destroyed the Bucs for years and years. It was predestined the Saints were winning this game and the refs were going to make sure of it. Zebra Mafia.

  22. Luke Says:

Now the hit was flagrant. Wether intended or not. Maybe ejection a question but rule is confusing. Regarding saying that was a turning point is total BS. Our secondary stinks with and without him. Your more on point blaming drafts , coaching and GM. BTW I warned everyone how Evans is inconsistent. OMG not even one catch.

  23. Jason S. Mclaurin Says:

It’s becoming evident that the refs are not on our side. The league views our team as villains. Every star player we ever had has been painted a villain from Sapp to Jameis today. The ejection changed the whole game. We lost to Vegas as well too. This game got very political with that ejection. SMB looked very lost out there and didn’t respond to his moment. It wasn’t VH3 it was SMB coverage that single handedly allowed Bridgewater to have a game of his career.

  24. Hodad Says:

They’re just better then us, admit it. They should’ve been in the SB last year, they might this year. There’s no shame saying they are just better then us.

  25. Costa Rica John Says:

I think your right. Today they were just better than us. The young secondary is still getting burned. They need to grow up quick. Barrett got neutralized today. The Saints had the better game plan. It’s going to take time but the Bucs are improved over last year.

  26. Morgus the Magnificent Says:

Winston should’ve been ejected for the helmet slam after the play was over.
