Hope For Turnovers?

September 27th, 2019

Key target.

You have to give the devil his due, even if you don’t like the result.

And so Joe is giving a nod to prickly Pete Prisco of CBS Sports. He picks the outcomes of every game. We tend to overthink how a game may turn out, but Prisco keeps it simple when he picks the Rams to work over the Bucs.

The Rams are 3-0 and playing well on both sides of the ball, while the Bucs are coming off a loss and face a tough road trip here. Look for Jared Goff to light up the Bucs secondary much like Daniel Jones did last week. Rams easy.

It really is simple as that. If a rookie making his first NFL start with no running game under constant pressure can absolutely tear apart the Bucs defense, what does anyone think a guy like Jared Goff will do?

Joe is sure hoping Shaq Barrett still rushes Goff like an animal and causes turnovers. Those, as always, are unpredictable.

Then there is also the possibility that defensive coordinator Todd Bowles fixes the previously “totally fixed” defense.

The Bucs have played 10 quarters of excellent defense. Were the final two quarters last Sunday just a fluke?

They can’t run up the middle, if Whitworth can’t handle Shaq they will leave an extra or chip block him. Problem is when we aren’t able to do this the DB’s are 2 yards behind the WR”s and Carlton Davis is holding someone. Cupp and Cooks could torch us Sunday.

“Were the final two quarters last Sunday just a fluke?’

    NO.

The previous 10 quarters were more of a fluke.

The BIG SKID starts in LA Sunday.

  3. MtBucsFan Says:

One difference is Goff gets really bad happy feet after a couple hits as well. thats what surprised me about Jones. There was times Nassib had his guy pushed into Jones and he stood tall and delivered. All the hits didnt rattle him. I think this is another case of not giving credit where it is due. I think Jones is going to be huge and a great pick up for the Giants.

  4. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    Turnovers will happen….that’s for sure

I have more of a problem with our offense not capitalizing on turnovers

Kicking FGs with a kicker that nobody has faith in anymore just won’t cut it anymore.

  5. stpetebucsfan Says:

I’m hoping it was all just another Buc choke job. Clearly BA has work remaining to change our culture. But it’s only three games and I’ll give he and JW the next 13 to impress me or lose me.

I’ve seen the Bucs go into Pittsburgh and beat a talented Steelers team in their own crib with MG8 at QB.

Is JW not at least as good as MG8?

Again we have our easiest games…five of the last 8 at home(is that an advantage or disadvantage) against a half dozen beatable teams….uhhhhh you know…same thing we had Sunday.

I’m hopeful this team can grow…it is young with a new coaching staff. We have to stop playing to not lose instead of playing to win….as in going for it 4-2 inside the five with six minutes left to close out the show on a team that was outplaying us. When we took the three I gave up.

Goff was a total Bust than all of a sudden he is Superbowl QB making $32 million per year

    What was it?

Puberty? Sudden growth spurt? Hair growth all over his body?

Goff was lucky to have the wonderboy play designer Mcvay while

JW3 is twice unlucky because he has the Arizona QB intern Leftfoot who doesnt know the difference between playaction and playstation”

Nah we just gave up 3 big plays that massively changed the game

-the broken coverage and missed tackle on a 75 yard TD pass

-the busted coverage for the 46 yard completion to D Slayton that resulted in a TD drive

-the busted coverage for a 36 yard pass to Sterling Shepard on 2nd and 9 to get them into the red zone for the game winning TD that he scored from 7 yards out on 4th down

This wasn’t the defense of 2017-2018 and 2015, when QBs would just complete 7-15 yard pass after pass after pass after pass and dice us up the entire game. We just didn’t make plays and made mistakes too often in the secondary in the 2nd half.

Take away those 3 busted plays and Daniel Jones threw 37 times for 193 yards (5 yards per attempt) while getting sacked 5 times.

He wasn’t dicing is up all game. He just made some big plays when it mattered most and our defense made no big plays when it mattered most and our kicker missed chip shot kicks when it mattered most in a game the Bucs should have won 99.99% of the time.

God i hate football sometimes lol

  9. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I am usually positive and have unwarranted optimism…..but not for Sunday…..
Unless we can be turnover free and cause multiple turnovers, LA is the better team.

And, this is a time to cut Jameis loose……we have little to lose…..let him play.
Don’t go for 3…..go for it on 4th & 2…..from most anywhere in their territory.
If we lose, we lose but go down fighting.

  10. LordCornelius Says:

    @Kobe

GOff looked like the worst QB in the entire league by far before McVay came. He still looks bad when pushed outside the comfort zone of that system / when he has to improvise / when games are tight or they are behind.

  11. RawDog Says:

Goff hasn’t exactly lit up the league this year… not sure why everyone talks about him like he is top tier. Bucs will have a shot to win this weekend, just need to learn how to win close games despite Arians trying to lose.

“Mcvay makes all presnap reads for Goff

Any QB would be successful under Mcvay

going to see alot of misdirection sweeps and wrs running free

go rent the movie 3 amigos… thats what our 3 burnt biscuits going to look like after Kupp, woods, Cook, TE goes wild

Son of Bum vs our Arizona QB intern?

    Poor Jameis

My Dad and I will be writing a short sweet eulogy for him by the end of the 1st quarter

    45-17”

  13. Pickgrin Says:

    Goff is over rated.

Bet he throws at least one INT Sunday. Maybe two…

  14. BucDan Says:

LC, STAHP! You’re making too much sense!

Even Talib acknowledges that this team has been in every game thus far, with the season being defined by the four (3 passes, 1 kick) knuckle-headed plays you listed above and two pick-sixes against the 49ers.

SIX PLAYS have changed the outcome of two games. It’s not like the Bucs are getting straight dominated out there aka Ravens and Falcons putting up 42 points before halftime.

  15. PriMech54 Says:

    Fun Fact Friday:

Jared Goff has a lower QBR, lower passer rating, less yards/touchdowns and has the same exact amount of turnovers as Jameis Winston in 2019 but his team is 3-0.

  16. tmaxcon Says:

the only hope against the rams is a forfeit…. the meltdown has already begun and the old dude will play the health card and bail by week 9 the once proud glazer circus is now nothing more than a broken down Carnival on the b ciruct

  17. PriMech54 Says:

Stop Gurley and beat the heII out of Jared Goff.

Scheme everything away from Donald and find a true playaction game.

    Absolutely doable.

    26 Bucs
    17 Rams

  18. Bucsfanman Says:

Script….flipped! Other way around. Goff will have 5 turnovers and the Bucs cruise to victory 28-13.

Every analyst is 0-3 with picking bucs games so far this year. if anything, expect the unexpected with tampa.

  20. TexBuc Says:

old fashion fan here still always see a win in the next game for my team

  21. Jeff Says:

Classic Bucs have no chance game. Bucs fans, take a couple of weeks off and come back when there is a winnable game. This is a 37-17 disaster waiting to happen. For all the degenerates at home, bet on the Rams and expect them to cover.

  22. AwShbucs Says:

Going into this game with no expectations. I thought I had the team figured out after the Carolina game. A team on the rise with a suffocating defense, and an offense that would improve steadily throughout the season. And through 2 quarters of the game against the giants that evaluation remained true.

Then the 2nd half all but killed any good faith the defense had earned outside of the front 7. The secondary still needs a lot of work…

But if we can have the defense of first 2 games combined with the offense we displayed in game 3, we could beat the Rams this Sunday.

  23. Clw JB Says:

This game has all the signs of a blowout waiting to happen….first of a seven week road trip against an undefeated team three time zones away

The BS we have been hearing from this staff early must be echoing through the locker room as well

What do the vets think when they hear the soundbite of good ole BA straight lying about a sideline call…or the OC stating “he didnt know” he called 9 RUN PLAYS IN A ROW?

Think Mike Evans didn’t know he did? Think Mike believes that?

I was a HUGE supporter of this regime and they are quickly proving to be all talk and no action

Dirk was 2-1 last year…where did we finish?

  24. Mike Johnson Says:

Rams can ball and will go 4-0. Golf is smart and has studied us. I do believe we play hard and have some bright moments. But not enough to overcome. I wish I could go out on a limb here. I’m just not confident..for this game. Jameis is probably gonna spend some time..on his back come Sunday. Good Luck Bucs!

  25. D1 Says:

    Primech,

Better to run right at Donald. The Rams have given up 100+ yds a game rushing and passing yds are similar to our team.

The offense needs to score TD’S and set the table for the defense. A close game is not the best thing for this team right now.

The Rams Defense isn’t the strength of the team so we have to score. Which is exactly what the Rams are saying about our secondary. Scheme wise though, we couldn’t be in a better scheme to shut down the rams. Perfect scheme. Of course, execution is the most important part of any scheme good or bad. But it’s a nice change not to have to account for.

    Winnable game ….

  26. D1 Says:

    Primech,

The winston to Goff comparison, I believe that Jameis has one more int, and possibly one less TD. But it’s interesting that winston is ahead on the others.

  27. lambchop Says:

Is “Leftfoot” supposed to be an insult? I don’t know man, my left foot is pretty gnarly.

  28. D1 Says:

    Lord Corn,

McVays scheme works if things line up correctly. Goff has struggled against teams who have figured out how to play the scheme. He is uncomfortable or something because He doesn’t have any alternatives. Great offense but it makes a QB look foolish if it struggles.

But it’s McVay who is struggling. Goff can’t do much about it. People are quick to point to Goff’s play as a rookie and his 2nd year under a new coach. All credit was given to McVay. Which is fair, if McVay is to blame now. Which is exactly the case for both.

  29. University of Seffner Says:

I literally expecting a train wreck that is going to sink this season yet again. The Rams are a better football team on all sides of the ball, and I think we’re gonna have a hard time moving the football. On Offense I can’t see us containing Aaron Donald and plus going up against a Wade Phillips defense is never easy. On Defense I can see us getting torched in the passing game to where the Rams won’t have to run the ball much. On Special Teams, who knows how our kicker is going to play. I wouldn’t be surprised if we lose 48-0 since almost every factor known in the game of football is against us this Sunday. The Giants game just took too much confidence out of me as a Bucs fan to where even if the Bucs beat the Rams, my confidence in this team would still be low. 5-11 is the ceiling. I’ve just been through too many Bucs seasons to have any optimism. All of that has disappeared. I hope I’m wrong, I’ve just been to the alter too many times.

  30. SappAttack Says:

    Bucs 30 – Rams 24. BOOK IT

  31. D1 Says:

    Seffner,

You may be correct about the game and maybe not. I get the point about being disappointed too many times but it’s not life or death it’s just entertainment.
Go ahead and get excited it’s not like the disappointment if it happens is something that is new and frightening. You’ll live.

I’m not going to agree with you on that the Rams and better on both sides of ball. Better in a range that makes it anything but a azzwhipping. They may be better in the past or more talented but as of now they’re not much different than we are. Wade Philips is great but we have Bowles and run a similar scheme so the team has practice time against a defense that’s designed to confuse the QB. Not the same scheme but philosophy.

Goff hasn’t been able to complete anything past 20yds and then only occasionally. The idea that we have to defend deep is not based on the film.
The fact is this rams team has firepower but hasn’t been able to put up the points like last year. This isn’t last year’s rams.

If the defense can stack the Los, and they can, shut down the run, the Rams are beatable and it’s not something they can beat. They may shut down our offense and then it’s a low scoring slug fest. But if we score..we win. Point blank period..dare to believe….

  32. BigMacAttack Says:

I think Bowles will make adjustments. I think our secondary is better than that and the Bucs will squeak out a victory in the final seconds of the game. Only this time our kicker makes a 50 yarder for the win. 😂
