Swaggy Talks Roberto Aguayo

June 21st, 2019

Surfaces.

Here’s a pair of former Bucs players that gives Bucs fans nightmares and the shivers even though they are long gone from Tampa Bay.

Recently, offsides-jumping, Lightning-trolling, belly-shirt-wearing, practice-hating, kicker-heckling, tree-grinding , non-contact-football-loving, chicken-wings-grilling, playing-time-squawking, TV-cooking-star, half-sack Swaggy Baker, a colossal bust of a free agent signing by the Bucs prior to the 2017 season, came out of hibernation to speak with the co-hosts of the podcast “Redskins Talk” with JP Finlay, Mitch Tischler and Pete Hailey.

As one can guess from the name of the pod, little to no Bucs talk was heard — except for chatter about failed Bucs kicker Roberto Aguayo.

The scene on “Hard Knocks” in 2017 during Bucs training camp between Swaggy and kickers Nick Folk and Roberto Aguayo is famous. Swaggy constantly hounded them during practices to try to throw him off his game. As it turned out, Aguayo needed little help with that.

Some Bucs fans were appalled at Swaggy’s antics, thinking he was torpedoing Aguayo’s fragile concentration and confidence. Swaggy confessed innocence and claimed he was trying to do the opposite.

“Even when I was with the Redskins I messed with the kickers at camp time,” Swaggy said. “The Aguayo stuff, it just happened to be on ‘Hard Knocks.’ He actually listened to me every time I told him to kick it wide left.”

One of the co-hosts suggested Aguayo would have kicked field goals wide left even if Swaggy wasn’t on the roster.

“Oh, definitely,” Swaggy said. “I was in his ear.”

Swaggy swore he was trying to toughen up Aguayo and had the Bucs’ best interest at heart when he was heckling Aguayo.

“He was my teammate, I wasn’t always down on him,” Swaggy said. “When we were in the locker room, I would go up to him and go, ‘Bro, I want you to make the kicks. But I am going to be on your butt every single day until you start making them consistently and then when you make them consistently you won’t hear my mouth.'”

Now Joe is no fan in any way of Swaggy and Joe is convinced from everything he has learned and heard that Swaggy and his malcontent card-playing buddy, also from the Redskins, poisoned the Bucs locker room beyond repair that season. But Joe has Swaggy’s back here with this Aguayo stuff.

If Aguayo couldn’t handle getting heckled by a teammate in practice, in August no less, from any teammate, then how was he going to master distractions in a game? So one loudmouth on a team hollers “miss it” and Aguayo mentally fell apart? That says a whole lot more about Aguayo than it does Swaggy.

It’s like Little League when the kids yelled “swing” at a pitch (before political correctness got rid of it).

Also in the interview, Swaggy admits he is emotionally struggling being out of football and finds it difficult to watch defensive linemen his age “getting paid.” Swaggy said he just has to find the right team with the right position for him to excel.

Joe is going to guess that would be a team that has a recliner located near a hog trough installed it its cafeteria.

Baker is washed up. Do your self a favor Slacky Baker and take a long walk off a short plank.

  2. Magadude Says:

Those are two ex-players (yes, ex-players) that I’m surprised even get interviews. It must be due to the 24-hour news cycle where everyone gets their air time.

What is one common denominator? Both guys seem to try to make their woes about something else other than own lack of ability or committment. From Aguayo saying he changed his swing and that did him in, to Swaggy saying he’s just got to find the right team, I am smdh.

  3. Defense Rules Says:

A Swaggy Baker sighting? For joy! Silly season is here for sure.

  4. Bucsfanman Says:

I’m thinking you’re right Magadude. It must be slow for us to even be discussing these guys.
No matter. Aguayo will probably go down as the biggest draft bust (At least one of them!) in Bucs’ history.

  5. AKickInTheBucNuts Says:

Can anyone look at that Swaggy pic and not laugh?

  6. Stonedbuc Says:

Swaggy was never a problem here, people putting in in place were. Baby poop McCoy couldn’t do nun about it. Time to rip the bong and pass out.

  7. Loyaltotheend Section 312 Says:

When I played in High School and College we did this to kickers all the time. Never had a problem with him doing this, he had bigger issues as a player and teammate

  11. DCBUCSFAN Says:

Worst move EVER by Licht acquiring this out of shape troll. I knew it from the get go that it was never going to work based on his performance here in DC with the Skins!

    HELL NO!!!

Only lesser Bucs sites take siestas like that. Joe has never and will never go dark for days at a time.

Fresh out of college and facing an uncertain future?

I wonder how all rookies would do if they were all heckled like that? Should it be made policy? I’m sure they would all do fantastic!

He was not fresh out of college. Aguayo already had a year under his belt.

If any player melts down, rookie or not, from being heckled by a teammate in training camp, then you don’t want that guy on your team. The NFL is not synchronized swimming or chess.

Imagine in years’ past guys fresh out of college, West Point and Annapolis, faced live bullets, mortars, grenades, artillery bombardments, kamikazes and not just survived but did their jobs.

And you are worried about a rookie being heckled like he’s a six-year old at the playground?

  17. adam from ny Says:

no one understood how fragile aguayo was until it was almost too late…

and kwon and gmc should have put swaggy in his place and pecking order on this team way way way before week 17…and that’s definitely one of the reasons why both are no longer here…their leadership was for the birds if an oversized gund teddy bear is running the show upon arrival by the bay

  18. adam from ny Says:

when he was humping the tree, someone should have dope fiend him off the tree to the ground…in other words, walked up behind him, threw him in a sleeper hold and chucked him to the ground…

now that would have been epic…

if sapp did it…his exact words woulda been:

“ain’t no dancin’ around here boi”

ps and no, adam from ny doesn’t condone violence

  19. adam from ny Says:

    2 questions for swaggy tho:

    do you even lift bro?

are you even in the league bro?

    🙂

  20. Clean House Says:

Exhibit A as to why Licht the buffoon should be fired- taking the redskins trash on board

  21. Darin Says:

Not about the heckling. It was the fact a coach let him do it from behind the kicker, at a close distance. Like trying to tee off with someone 6 feet behind ya screaming. Aint gona work. The klueless should have nipped that. More on him than saggy

  22. DB55 Says:

I’d resign swaggy in a heart beat especially with suh and VV next to him. Truth is he and McDonald played very well together. Swaggy just couldn’t overcome the selfishness that is Me-IceCream

  23. Jonathan Limpchimpi Says:

Saggy absolutely sucked out loud. He was pitiful as a person and a player. He’s outta the league for good and will no doubt eat his BBQ on an unlimited basis here on out. I saw no redeeming qualities in this guy.

  24. Tbbucs3 Says:

You know it’s officially summer when we get news about Subway employee Chris Baker talking about Real Estate agent Roberto Aguayo.

  25. BucEmUp Says:

Didnt even read the article. Just got on to mention how bad it is when ANYONE GIVES A FLYING CRAP what Chris Baker has to say.

  26. Magadude Says:

@BucsFanMan…yeah, and Aguayo would be on a loooong list of candidates, sad to say. Let’s see…2nd round busts….Sabby Piscatelli, ASJ, Daquan Bowers…oh, there’s more. Yes, Aguayo is the worst among those.

  27. Joe in Michigan Says:

Tell us about how Mitch Unrein yelled when Chandler Cantanzaro was trying to kick last year!! Even if he didn’t, it would be as interesting and relevant as this gem.

  28. Cobraboy Says:

A kicker gains the respect of his teammates by making his kicks.

Did Aguayo ever earn anyone’s respect?

A kicker getting heckled during a FG attempt should be filed under “dog bites man.”

  29. Destinjohnny Says:

    Jason Licht…..

Huh?? Nothing you said even makes any sense. Unrein was on the punchdrunk reserve list all year.

  31. Jameis Almighty! Says:

Swaggy ruined Aguayo… Finally we get an answerZ it’s not the ball, the sun, the grass, the snapper, the holder… it’s swaggy the douche.

  32. sincethebeginning Says:

More, please, more! I can’t get enough of former failed Bucs news. Living in the past is so much easier for me, as a lifelong Bucs fan, with your site around. I’m thrilled you take the time to think about shadow-chasing regret-filled second-guessing backwards-looking hope-deprived fans. Where else but here, Joe, can I find such knots of bitter angst and gut-wrenching disgust about the Bucs-gone-by? Such a blessing! Thank you.

  33. Joe Says:

More, please, more! I can’t get enough of former failed Bucs news.

Well, if you open your mind a little bit you would understand “failed” Roberto Aguayo is directly affecting the Bucs this very moment. So why did he fail? Some actually believe Swaggy Baker had a hand it in. Swaggy making a rare appearance to discuss this Joe found very relevant.

Sorry that you have your head buried in the sand. Can’t please all the people all the time. smh 🙁

  34. BucsScout Says:

They don’t let kids yell “swing” in little league anymore? Wow, this world sucks.

  35. Jameis Almighty! Says:

Joe. I think this is a great report. Keep up the good work. People have wondered why Aguayo failed. Aguayo struggled with his confidence during his final year with FSU. He then gets drafted as the savior to end the curse of Matt Bryant. He needs positive reinforcement! Not some loud mouth yelling negative stuff at him.
