Reality Strikes At One Buc Palace

Potential replacement drafted

The Buccaneers’ scary stable of cornerbacks just got an injection of hope in the form of yet another second-round pick at the position.

Hallelujah!

As Joe wrote this week, this year, Jason Licht has said multiple times with emphasis that he’s impressed by how this draft has plenty of long and athletic cornerbacks. They’re the kinds of guys, Licht told a national radio audience, who represent the new prototype corners because of how route running by receivers has changed.

The Bucs needed an upgrades at cornerback, but they needed capable bodies period. So here we are, a Carlton Davis clone is in the house.

The Bucs just drafted cornerback Sean Bunting out of Central Michigan in Round 2 at No. 39 overall.

Bunting is a 6-foot, 195-pound press corner type and was an All-MAC selection last season, and he won Central Michigan University’s Defensive Player of the Year award after posting 37 tackles, three for loss.

This guy is no nickel.

The Bucs exercised the 2020 option in Vernon Hargreaves’ contract this week, which would pay him roughly $9 million next year. But it’s not guaranteed.

Now it’s really not guaranteed.

I like this guy and pick !! We needed a baller and everyone that comes out of Central Michigan is a stud !! Finally Joe a pick I can justify

  2. AlteredEgo Says:

    VH3 is a nickel

  3. TDTB Says:

Would have prefered Adderly or Gardner here. They both can play CB and safety.

  4. Tampabaybucfan Says:

A solid pick……this guy moved up everybody’s draft board recently…..he runs a 4.42 40…..same time as Devin White…..now he is tied for being the fastest Buc Defender….

Before posters disparage this pick, they should study it a bit….or they may be embarrassed.

  5. Not there yet Says:

Was greedy Williams on the board? Please tell me this isn’t gonna be like last year picking mj Stewart over donte Jackson

  6. OMac Says:

    Another dumb take.
Joe questions Hargreaves spot (Nicole corner) due to a drafted CB (who only has ONLY played on the outside according to the draft commentators). Arians himself talked in March about how Hargreaves is an outside corner in his book and projects him outside as a starter. –Joe
    Makes no sense.

  7. TJ Tillman Says:

They reached for MJ Stewart (who should’ve been a third round pick) now he is a safety who might not start next year. Now they reach for this guy no way this kid is better than Greedy Williams. Jason Licht 😡

  8. Bucthat Says:

How many second round picks is he going to burn I mean wtf…..

  9. Unimpressed Says:

    Bottom dwellers again

  10. Rod Munch Says:

    Bucs corner depth chart…

    #1 ??????
    #2 Davis
    #3 VH3
    #4 ??????
    #5 ??????

So is this kid #1 or #4 on that depth chart? In any case even if he’s #4, he’ll be #3 when VH3 in injured by week 6.

  11. LJS4th Says:

Risner sitting there plays tackle & Center but we take a Chippewa!!! The Bucs are the jokes of the NFL!!!!

  12. Rich Says:

who the hell is Sean Bunting….smells like another F-up by Bud Licht!!!! this guy would’ve been available in the 4th rd….from the powerhouse program of Central Michagam H S

  13. Bkyrdbob77 Says:

I have not seen him play, but bleacher report has him labeled a zone corner. Here is the breakdown I found.

  14. Bkyrdbob77 Says:

    Guess I cant post links.

  15. fail Says:

Another awful pick! Who the heck is THIS guy?! What is Licht and Arians DOING! Why not take the several better rated CBs that were still there?! This is crazy town?! First the suspect coaching staff hires, then FA period signings and now a piss poor draft start?! This team is doomed already!

    GRADE = F minus x10000

  16. Unimpressed Says:

Jason Licht needn’t bother showing his face at a presser for the next couple of months, boy does this draft wreak of mediocrity.

  17. BB Says:

    Another Bucs fail

  18. fail Says:

    @Unimpressed

    Agreed sir!

  19. HeavyE Says:

Should have been Greedy!!! Here we go again!!!! We have to get a new scouting dept. and a new GM!!!!

  20. Not there yet Says:

Would have loved Adderly here or Gardner-Johnson for sure. Not much excitement about this pick but can’t say I know much about him. Licht is the worst gm in the history of the nfl with round two picks. This guy has to start and play well to justify it over other so called higher rated players

  21. Bkyrdbob77 Says:

So is the second round now officially the “secondary” round?

  22. HeavyE Says:

This kid was graded for a 4th or 5th round selection!!! WTF!!!!!

  23. Bkyrdbob77 Says:

Bleacher report had him going in the second round

  24. Clw JB Says:

The bio on this kid is he struggles in press and needs a year or so to develop – bad pick with far more pressing needs on the OL

  25. Bkyrdbob77 Says:

I guess now that we are going to press coverage, its time to draft zone guys…..

  26. westernbuc Says:

I’m still concerned about right guard and the pass rush, hopefully the 3rd round has some value

  27. Buc4evr Says:

Why did we pass on Greedy? Either the Bucs are idiots for taking a 5th rounder on the second round or there something bad about Greedy that the Bucs know. I’m going with the Bucs are idiots…. another blown second round.

  28. Dave Says:

One of the things Cardinal fans will say about Arians is his drafts were not the greatest.

  29. Clw JB Says:

    Athlon – 4/5th round – 18th CB overall

    Lindy – 5th round – 22nd CB overall

Just a joke of a pick at the TOP of the 2nd, you could have had him in the 3rd just as easy

  30. Hodad Says:

The corner the Raiders got the pick after us is better. My question is, how soon do we wait before we move our new 2nd round corner to safety?

  31. TOM Says:

Typical Licht failed 2nd rd pick. WTF Licht Risner sitting there & Zach Allen & this is who you pick. This is one fk up organization.

  32. Locked In Says:

I guess Bunting was the best player available, since if you pick for need you get fired.

  33. Dave Says:

This is a GM that traded up in the 2nd round to draft a kicker.

    What do you expect?

  34. Defense Rules Says:

I’m still flabbergasted. So many pressing NEEDS with some potentially great players still available and Bucs waste yet another 2nd Round pick. He may well turn out to be very good, but I have doubts he’ll be a starter. Plus the odds are quite good that we could’ve picked him up in the 4th or 5th Round. We NEED a starter-quality DLineman, OLineman & RB to have a decent chance this year so instead we use a precious 2nd Rnd pick on a CB? Doesn’t make a Licht of sense. Oh wait … I stand corrected.

  35. Bucnjim Says:

This is like Willy Wonka and the golden ticket. We’ve got Gruden’s second rounder Veruca Salt, then Licht drafting Violet the kicker and now we have Licht and BA acting like Charlie found the golden ticket. I hope you are right but I think we needed another safer pick and not looking for the golden ticket.

  36. Gator Frank Says:

Jason Licht trying to prove he is the smartest guy in the room again. He is only proving he is the opposite. This guy is a 4th round pick. Nasir Adderly and Greedy Williams are both better.

  37. Jonathan Limpchimpi Says:

So tired of The Licht Weight Era…Browns are officially way better than The Bucs as an organization. I remember when Lovie Dovie wanted Chris Ballard as his GM. Ballard horse laughed…enter Licht.

  38. Scott Says:

At least we didn’t draft kicker lol

  39. TDTB Says:

What Gator Frank said, but thrown layne and Chauncey Garner in too.

  40. stpetebucsfan Says:

Greedy would have been a solid pick…IF…the Bucs played touch football…alas in the NFL they play tackle football limiting Greedy severely.

Where are you guys getting your info. I’ve read several scouting reports already this evening and nobody says he’s a system or zone corner…just the opposite…lightning fast and he plays with an edge.

Is this politics or football. Is name recognition everything?

How many Chippewa games did you REALLY watch. For me that would be zero…but I also didn’t see any other MAC games.

  41. Arian Nation Says:

    Fire Licht tonight!!!

  42. Arian Nation Says:

The stupidest GM in professional football just traded the best RB in the draft (Henderson) to the Rams for the 94th, 99 pick in the draft and a transgender cheerleader.

  43. Proudbucsfan Says:

I’m disappointed, two years in a row, 4 DB’s in the 2nd round, who does that ?

  44. teacherman777 Says:

I swear Licht does the opposite of what we all want.

3 years in a row, and we don’t draft a starting guard?

Cappa was a LT in college. Benenoch was a tackle. And we tried to make them guards.

We were great when Logan Mankins and Ali Marpet were our guards.

I swear, the interior of the line is everything.

And we have sucked since Carl Nicks was signed.
