Adarius Taylor May Not Play

December 16th, 2018

In a late addition to the injury report on Saturday for today’s game at Baltimore, starting linebacker Adarius Taylor’s name popped up, per Bucs media relations.

It may not be good news for the Bucs but it is good news for Taylor.

Taylor is listed as questionable but he’s uninjured. Rather, per Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times, Taylor and his wife are expecting a newborn baby. Provided their new child arrives on time, Taylor could arrive on time in Baltimore to play today.

Taylor, of course, did not fly with the team to Baltimore.

Did anyone just watch the Browns win despite their QB ? Yet after the game their head coach says he was proud of his QB and how he lead the team. What he didn’t do is go up to the podium and cry about TOs, which Baker had two, and talk about how his team won despite the TOs which is exactly what Dirk did when we beat the Browns. Dirk is such a horrible leader of a team.

Also I love how everyone is saying how well Mayfield is playing, and I loved him coming out of the draft, when his numbers are very average at best.

Baker Mayfield tosses two touchdowns, defense stops Broncos on fourth down to give Browns 17-16 win

Look at this headline on Profootball talk. He was 58% comp with 2 TDs, a pick and a lost fumble. Now you tell me if this headline would have been this positive if this was Jameis?

  3. Bucs Fan #7423 Says:

If Baker mayfield was a 4 year veteran like Jamies then yes he would be considered a bust

  4. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

I like Mayfield for a lot of the reasons I like Jameis. They just have that “it” factor. Something about them is just different, they are extremely motivated to be great and want to be leaders of their teams.
Mayfield is in somewhat of a nice situation being on a team that obviously tanked for years and now have accumulated some nice young talent. While Jameis’ GM continues to try to cover the holes he creates year after year chasing his tail.
I don’t think we need a total rebuild of players but a veteran purge might be in order. What we need is someone with a clear vision to run this team and lead these men. A fresh set of eyes and new perspective could be great for this team.
Until then, it’s a Bucs life, stuck in Succaneer Cove.

@Alaskan … “What we need is someone with a clear vision to run this team and lead these men. A fresh set of eyes and new perspective could be great for this team.”

Yea verily Alaskan. I’m convinced now that our Bucs problems actually started with Bruce Allen & Jon Gruden (also convinced that the only reason Chucky even came close to a .500 record is because of Monte Kiffin’s defense). From our very first days as a team, the Bucs were all about DEFENSE. We drafted a number of pretty decent offensive players, but that side of the ball never flashed the way the Bucs defense did. Hugh Culverhouse was one of the worst owners in the NFL IMO, yet we still managed to produce some very decent defenses. I personally credit Rich McKay & Sam Wyche with really laying the cornerstones that ultimately became a defensive juggernaut under Tony Dungy & Monte Kiffin (with Rich McKay again providing the talent they needed). Malcolm Glazer buying the team was the key … he provided the incentive & resources … and vision … IMO that the team had lacked under Culverhouse.

We won our Super Bowl by buying Chucky (and more importantly IMO retaining Kiffin), but it cost us dearly. In the 16 years that followed, we’ve had exactly FIVE winning seasons … 2005 (11-5), 2007 (9-7), 2008 (9-7), 2010 (10-6) and 2016 (9-7). Counting Gruden & Allen, we’ve had THREE GMs and FIVE HCs in those 16 years. I can’t even imagine how many different NFL players have started for the Bucs in those 16 years. but I’d bet that we’re very close to leading the league in player turnover.

Bucs’ offense has ranked in the Top-10 in POINTS SCORED exactly ONCE since our ‘founding’ in 1976. Bucs’ defense has ranked in the Top-10 in POINTS ALLOWED exactly SIXTEEN times since 1976. Not much doubt in my mind what our ‘vision’ has been since we came into existence. Malcolm appreciated that ‘vision’ and focused on perfecting it, right up until he saw that defense alone couldn’t get us over the top. Hello Chucky and his great ‘offensive mind’. Bucs have been ‘tweeners’ ever since, with no real identity (although we do march up and down the field very nicely it turns out).

The Sons of Malcolm don’t seem to have a great ‘vision’ for this team. We seem to be caught in a no-mans-land (neither our offense nor our defense are good enough to say ‘That’s out identity’ any longer). My personal preference is to focus on rebuilding this defense into a Top-5 defense, with enough emphasis on the offense to where it can rank in the middle of the pack consistently in POINTS SCORED. Neither Licht nor Koetter can get us to that I’m convinced. But there are quality leaders out there who can. The Sons of Malcolm just need to find them … that THEIR Job #1.

  6. Defense Rules Says:

BTW Alaskan, the only time we ranked in the Top-10 in POINTS SCORED was in 2000 (ranked #6) … with Tony Dungy as our HC. Gruden’s average ranking in POINTS SCORED over his 7 years here was #21. His average ranking in TOTAL YARDAGE GAINED was #20. Our defensive ranking in those 7 years under Monte Kiffin? We averaged #8 in POINTS SCORED & #6 in YARDAGE ALLOWED.

  7. Kobe Faker Says:

    @def

Agreed klueless and gump has no clue whatsoever to turn this team around

However it is proven that it doesnt take long to change course

*last year 2017 superbowl winner, philly didnt even make the playoffs the previous year on 2016

*there are 22 starting positions. 2 successful drafts can get you 6 starters. With a few good fa signings (3-4)along with your existing foundational starting players (6-7), you can see that you can easily overhaul a team in 2 years…

And we are witnessing it every year with new teams in the playoffs

It doesnt take long to win in the nfl ala rams, philly, dal, chicago…

You just need the right HC, GM, QB

  8. RachelWatson'sthong Says:

That’s some accurate Buc’s history right there. Well said.

  9. Defense Rules Says:

Kobe … The right players helps too. Look at Philly this year … one year removed from a Super Bowl victory … after losing several key players.

That’s a photo of Noah Spence, not Adarius Taylor.

  12. Bob in Valrico Says:

    Kobe,
The trick is to sustain that success.Look at The Eagles who are now sporting a very similar record to ours. But I would venture to say rebuilding a team with
only 6 or 7 foundational starters is overly optimistic. Now if you had the same number of core starters on both sides of the ball, I would think that would be a
much better start, but it train wrecks happen for a variety of unforeseen reasons.

  13. Bob in Valrico Says:

    @ defense
Looks like we had the same line of reasoning concerning The Eagles, and it
just as pertinent to our team.

Isn’t that pretty much what we had under Dungy?

And people wanted him gone…because getting to the playoffs repeatedly, after years and years of futility, wasn’t good enough.

  15. Hodad Says:

Does anybody believe our defense would’ve stopped Denver on the road by blitzing the crap out of them instead of sitting back in soft coverage while they marched to a winning F.G.? Does anyone believe Koetter would’ve had the balls to go for it on fourth down to win the game instead of trying for a F.G. that would’ve left the door open for a winning drive? The Browns didn’t get the first, but their coach had the nuts to go for it trusting his D to have his back, they did. Koetter is a gutless, clueless coach who can’t be gone soon enough.
