Banged Up Godwin, Evans

December 15th, 2018

Dirk Koetter was talking last night and going beyond the injury report.

Receiver Chris Godwin practiced fully this week and was not on the official injury report, but the Buccaneers’ head coach said Godwin has been battling through various health issues.

Koetter was asked by a fan on the Buccaneers Radio Network about Godwin bouncing back from what might have been his worst game as a professional last Sunday against the Saints, and Koetter responded that Godwin is ripe for a comeback but he’s fighting injuries fans don’t see.

Joe knows Godwin was in a similar boat last season, battling through small ailments and wearing down through the season. It’s not necessarily a red flag, but it’s worth noting.

Godwin might have company in the receiving corps, and Joe isn’t referring to DeSean Jackson’s thumb.

Before the Saints game, ex-Bucs guard Ian Beckles was talking on his In The Trenches podcast about how Mike Evans now looks worn down from a season’s worth of hits. Beckles said Evans is like a boxer getting up from a late-round knockdown after most catches. Sure enough, Evans’ responded just like that after what seemed like a simple catch and tackle against the Saints.

Joe is eager to see how strongly Evans and Godwin close the season. The Bucs’ hopes of winning one of their final three games ride a lot on the backs of those guys.

Evans, Godwin, and Humphries are going to give you every last ounce of effort they possibly can on every single snap. I wish I could say the same about DeSean Jackson.

  2. SOEbuc Says:

Evans and Humphries on my semi final team this week. Lets do it fellas.

  3. DBS Says:

Godwin was ripe for a comeback? Evans wearing down. But yep Jameis was to do it all by himself.

  4. DBS Says:

Wait? Didn’t it ride only on the back of Jameis last week?

Ok picture this you’re a WR your job is to get open and catch the ball ok you get open continuously and the QB cant ever seem to hit you in stride, over throws it or under throws it because he does not have deep ball accuracy but he should at this point in his career then the WR gets frustrated and upset and everyone thinks he is selfish etc etc now put yourself in the WR shoes! Who wouldn’t be mad upset or want a trade when your QB can’t get you the ball after all the extra off season work!

Even if DJax leaves the team will need a speedy guy to be a deep threat to stretch the field Godwin is a hard working possession guy, Hump is an underneath guy, Evans is a possession big body guy and Oj works the seams but no deep threat really…..

You get the he snap spin look down field, oh lineman in my face, run for your life, go to the sideline why didn’t you throw the ball . Ask these crappy linemen

This team is banged up and injured at an unbelievable rate. We have to look at that pattern/coaching during the off season. Defensive backs all year, linebackers all year, defensive linemen especially early, wide receivers as the season has gone on, tight ends, offensive linemen. If you’re on the Buc roster, no one is immune.

Season ticket holder here…everytime Mike Evans catches a 10+ yard pass why does he limp off the field like he’s hurt and come back the next play lately? I’m not hating or being negative I’m just wondering. Is he in shape?

We all know that Jameis Winston struggles throwing an accurate deep pass, specifically to DeSean Jackson. I get why he would be upset. However, he’s a veteran in his 11th year. He shouldn’t be going on national TV advocating for a certain QB that he prefers and creating a controversy. Mike Evans has said before that Jameis is his best friend, but when he was asked who should start at QB early in the season, he said that it wasn’t his choice and that it’s up to the coaches. That’s the correct answer to give, even though deep down we all know that he prefers Jameis over Ryan.

Another thing that is frustrating, is watching him clearly give up on plays. The two that are most notable are the final plays in Atlanta and against the Giants a few weeks ago. If he just gave it his all on those two certain plays, we would probably be sitting at 7-6 right now.

In additional to all of that, he demands a trade mid-season, complains about everything, runs out off the field in a hurry (even though his team won), and talks about how he wishes he was on another team weeks after saying he wants to retire in Tampa. Jameis isn’t blameless, but he isn’t the problem.

Picture this, your a QB and every WR on your team runs crisp routes, blocks with effort for his team mates in the run game. They show up for ALL the off season work outs and will do anything to help the team win, including returning punts. Well all but one and for some reason you and that one cannot connect, and every body blames you. Put yourself in the QBs shoes?

This deep into the NFL season, Every team is beat up with injuries. Players try to play with them and coaches have to coach around them.

  14. Fire Light Says:

Jameis has a rocket for an arm and is very accurate. He doesn’t throw a great deep ball. Throws that look easy are 30 yard missiles. The dude is great. Most fans are so damned ignorant and can’t see the greatness of Jameis. OJ Hurt Mike Evans and Godwin dinged up. No way to run the ball and Humph is what he is.. If the Bucs win this it will be a miracle.

And singlehandedly on the back of Famous Jameis Winston!
