“I Don’t Think He Is That Good”

September 18th, 2018

Sad days.

The anti-Jameis crowd is absolutely having a jubilee these days.

With Bucs backup quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick turning the NFL on its ears in the first two games of the 2018 season while America’s Quarterback serves his three-game sentence from NFL strongman Roger Goodell, the anti-Jameis crowd is seeing their dreams come true. They believe Jameis is on the cusp of being jettisoned by the Bucs.

And if Max Kellerman of BSPN has any clout, Jameis would at least be benched by the Bucs and never be more than a second-string signal-caller, permanently.

In the hollerfest known as “First Take,” Kellerman summed up his feelings on Jameis in one sentence.

“I don’t think he’s that good.”

Joe will just say one thing: For the folks throwing eggs at traffic on Highway 41 because they claim Jameis cannot win games (did 2016 never happen?), here’s something to chew on.

In his 12-year NFL career, Fitz, 35, has exactly as many winning seasons at quarterback in the NFL as 24-year old Jameis does in three seasons.

That would be one.

More fuel for the fire that will be the Jameis Revenge Tour.

    Jameis against the world indeed.

  5. Rob in Land O Lakes Says:

This entire debate is silly. I am one of the biggest JW3 supporters around, but you do not sit Fitz down when he’s playing like this. Analogy:

You are sitting at a blackjack table in Las Vegas. You put $20 on the table. Two hours later you are up $4000 dollars. You are winning EVERYTHING. Your wife shows up at the table and says “it’s time to go see (Insert Cheezy Vegas show here)”. Do you say “yes dear”, and walk away to make her happy… Or do you piss her off, ride the streak until it comes to an end, then take her to a nice dinner with your winnings? Guys, let’s enjoy the ride as long as it lasts. Fitz is the present, JW3 is the future.

  6. joestang Says:

Hey Joe, 2016 did happen along with 2017 and 2018. Jameis put himself in this situation, nobody to blame but himself. If the bucs went 0 and 3 without Jameis, unless he wins every game after that we will have another losing season. Who would you blame? I hope Jameis is our qb going forward but I would let Fitz have his day until he falters.

  7. NPR SageBoy Says:

    Jameis who?

  8. SchwiftyBuc Says:

Max Kellerman is just another talking head. The Bucs know what the have in Jameis. And if it weren’t for Fitz playing out of his mind good (which im extremely pumped up to see btw) Jameis absolutely earned to be the starter upon return based on his performance in the preseason where he clearly out played Fitz.

As I said, Fitz is unbelievably hot right now so there’s no way you take him out unless his play begins to falter significantly or he gets injured. Personally, I hope he stays this hot for the rest of the season and rides off into the sunset as a Superbowl champ. Is that likely? No. But I would be extremely pleased to see it happen.

Regardless of that though. The thing all of you Jameis naysayers/non-believers/haters are failing to consider. Is that Fitzpatrick is 35 years old and was on the verge of retirement this offseason. Jameis is still 100% the future of this franchise at the QB position, and that isn’t going to change any time soon.
    Count on it.

  9. Lord Cornelius Says:

People are allowed to be stupid and ignorant if they want; and apparently get paid to spout such opinions.

    Here’s simple facts:

    1. Top 10 QB to end 2017; despite banged up O-line and missing multiple weapons.
    2. Improved every year he’s been in the league in every passing category.
    3. Set multiple NFL records for a passer through his first few seasons. Career stats on par with any other elite QB’s starts in the league basically.
    4. Went 9-7 in 2016. And put the team ahead in 4 games that were choked away in 2017; or was basically robbed of back to back winning seasons by defensive/special team choking.

    5. Was the best Bucs QB through preseason; where ALL Bucs QBs were lighting it up under Monken’s play calling.

All preseason I kept thinking the offense in general looked like an unstoppable force – regardless of the QB running it.

But hey 2 NFL regular season games where Winston isn’t playing= he now sucks because Fitzpatrick is doing well?

I’m all for riding this hot hand; but jesus people. If you don’t like Winston just say you hate the person he is. Don’t try to make actual football arguments.

  10. NPR SageBoy Says:

Let’s be real; Fitz isn’t a long term solution. But, is Jameis? One more knucklehead off field move and he’s gone forever. There’s gotta be a better long term answer.

Anyway, I’ll enjoy this run while it lasts.

  11. Not there yet Says:

Why are people talking about karma 2 weeks into the season? I swear these are all the leftover Mike Glennon man fans for some reason thinking Fitz the season is won because of 2 games and he already let us to the playoffs. This is why fans are considered fickle you overreact.

Wanna use karma it could easily be Fitz crashing back down to earth with a bad game. The reactionary fans are gonna jinx this team because fans can’t handle being in the national spotlight.

  12. Buc1987 Says:

    Nice cherry pick Joe….

Why is Jameis Winston even a Buc to begin with?

Answer : cause the Bucs were the worst team in the NFL. Peeps forget that.

The Bucs were the worst team in the NFL for awhile outside of Raheem’s 10 win season….well Schiano won 7 in a season…..

Jameis came to a garbage team. That’s a fact. Fact. He was supposed to turn the team around all by himself and wins were supposed to start dropping from the sky with no one around him. They had a campaign called “Weapons for Winston”cause he was working with junk and Evans.

You may as well add up all the losses this team took for the 5 years before Jameis was even drafted by the team. What’s that total?

In fact what’s the win- loss total of this team with or without Jameis Winston for the past 10 years? I know all different rosters and coaches…but one constant….. the team has sucked. I’m not going to do the totals. Someone else do that. It ain’t pretty.

So who was the cure? Fitzpatrick? STOP IT!

  13. Lamarcus Says:

Lest be reminded that last yearFitz wasnt good either. He was average.

  14. Ryan Baker Says:

@Joe . That’s a great observation ! Here is one of my own . Winstons career win pct is .400 ……. Fitzpatrick’s win oct is .413………. Jameis Winston is 18-27 under center for the Bucs , Fitzpatrick is 4-1 . At this point the comparing of the two, is comical . America deserves a QB that’s is better than 18-27

  15. The Buc Realist Says:

I don’t know why “national” opinions are so important to the sheep!!!!!!! is this the way that Buc fans see this situation??????? Is this what the so-called fans are thinking??????

The “real” fans see their team have a “QB Luxury”!!!!!!!! The “Back-up” QB is playing just about the best in the league, and the “Young starting” QB out played him in the pre-season!!!!!! The Bucs are in a great position!!!!!! The Bucs have the Luxury of riding the very Hot QB and ease back in JW3 when play dips!!!!!!! And another positive, Jw3 gets to sit in meeting rooms with fitz after this week!!!!! This is not JW3 bouncing idea’s of MG8!!!!!!!!!!

Enjoy the ride Buc fans!!!!!!! Cause we get to wear the sunglasses and smile as we ride in style past all the shlub’s!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    #trust the coaches!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    GO BUCS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  16. Robert Says:

87 find your safe place and cuddler with your winston jersey. he’ll be back in due time.

Fitz is your QB, AMERICAS QB, conor friggin mcgregor is your QB DAWG.

    safe place, safe place…..

  17. Gettinthebucs Says:

I saw this video on YouTube and came to the conclusion that Max kellerman knows absolutely nothing about football. This is exactly why I don’t watch ESPN. Shame on Damien Woody for not putting him in his place. That guy played and sees what’s happening on the defensive and more importantly in this case offensive lines. Fitz is killing it but it would be dumb to let jameis go unless you’re getting a bunch of picks.

  18. __TGH__ Says:

This is the best thing that could have happened for the Bucs. If Jameis didn’t take his suspension to heart before, he certainly has now.

Jameis – come back next week and be happy for your teammates. Stay positive to anyone who will listen regarding the current situation. You will get your chance to play and win your rightful position back. You are the franchise. Don’t ever let anything like this ever happen again. Its tough to learn your family and friends will go on without you.

  19. Silverbuc Says:

When Monken takes the head coach job in Pittsburgh and brings Jameis, Marpet, Donavan (Penn State guy), and Kwon with him, I wonder what the Jameis haters will say when Fitzpatrick is holding out for a $25 mil/yr 5 year contract extension.

  20. Lord Cornelius Says:

    @Lamarcus

And last year is a bigger sample size. Fitz was solid; but was demonstrably worse than a healthy Winston to the eye and on paper.

But now we think that Fitz is god and Winston sucks; because of 2 games under a new OC with a much better O-line/run game and 2nd year breakouts in Howard & Godwin.

Honestly don’t care lol. Just keep winning and let the idiots say what htey want

  21. Robert Says:

his team mates gonna put cobwebs in his locker just to *uck with him.

  22. Robert Says:

@lord, let us eat cake too man 🙂

I know JW is the future, but it is funny as hell being right and seeing this team play the way I expect a team with these weapons to play.

  23. Buc1987 Says:

Lord Cornelius …bravo…it makes them look stuuuuuuuuuuupid!

Joe says it’s an opinionated driven website. So are the comments of course.

LC….Bird….a JBF poster…told me last night that his opinion is that FSU-Buc fans are rooting for Fitz to fail cause we love Jameis so much….that’s his opinion…only you can’t find anyone on JBF saying that. THEY grasp at straws sometimes.

Addressed me as what is it you FSU homers see in Jameis Winston. As if it’s ONLY us FSU homers that see something in Jameis. It’s comical. You can’t make this stuff up!

  24. T REX Says:

Wow. The JW/FSU honks are out in full defense mode.

    Awesome. Hilarious.

  25. ATLBuc Says:

Those are the same people who said we would be 0-3 or 1-2 when JW gets back. And here we are sitting with a#7 ranking with 3 defensive starters and our 1st round pick out! C’mon bucs nation, we have 2 good qb’s, don’t let the outsiders divide us or put negativity into what we’ve been waiting for for a long time.

  26. Hawk Says:

“In his 12-year NFL career, Fitz, 35, has exactly as many winning seasons at quarterback in the NFL as 24-year old Jameis does in three seasons.”
Come on, Joe. A specious argument, at best. Let’s compare apples and apples. How do their win/loss records compare when you only count the games where they have the same offense, defense and coaches? And we all know that teams go to the playoffs based on their win/loss record, rather than sacks, tackles, or passing yards.
I hope Jameis gets a chance to start this year because the Bucs need to make a big decision. And I hope he plays lights-out when that opportunity presents itself. But, I bet a wooden nickel that any contract the Bucs offer will be *heavy* with clauses protecting the team from another ‘hassle’.

  27. Jmarkbuc Says:

The team is maturing without JW, he’s the one that will have to catch up. Hopefully, Somewhere in Tampa, Jameis is finally realizing that it is not all about him. Maybe for the first time in his life.

  28. Lord Cornelius Says:

    @87

    For sure.

I really just think these national talking heads were so off regarding this team and the offense in general that they’re trying to save face by pivoting the discussion away from

“How did we not see this coming with these Bucs and these weapons? We were more wrong about this than any take on any other team this year and it isn’t close!”

    to

“Hm let’s stir up a different topic about the QBs so we can avoid talking about how absolutely f*cking wrong we all were about this team through 2 weeks”

  29. Robert Says:

Jmarkbuc just won the internet. great post.

  30. 813bucboi Says:

don’t let them rattle your cage….they just need something to talk about…..those same folks were saying we’ll be 0-3 because of Winston having to sit, now they want to say he’s not that good…..

and if fitz comes back down to earth(im praying he stays in pluto) they’ll be saying he shouldn’t have wore djax’s gear with the shades and chains…..he got to big headed…..

    #TUNNELVISION!!!!…GO BUCS!!!!

  31. Conte Piscatelli Says:

    Silverbuc

Unfortunately your theory is flawed by the fact the Steelers don’t fire coaches, or at least haven’t since 1969. In that time they have had 3 head coaches and Tomlin has the highest winning% of the 3.

  32. JameisNOT Says:

Yo Lordcornhole: LMAO with your comment of “People are allowed to be stupid and ignorant“….that’s true if you are not a starting QB in the NFL. This is exactly why JameISNOT will not play a down for the Bucs again. They can cut him and not owe him a dime next year. They won’t waste 20.5 million by playing him and risk a chance of him faking an injury. Hell, I would not let him stand in the sidelines or practice. We already know he has no character and who’s to say he won’t fake an injury in order to get paid the 20.5 million. The best thing we can do is trade him FAST!!!!

  33. Buc1987 Says:

Jmarkbuc…I’m sure it has to be tough….cause he’s been told it’s all about him most of his life…..surely the haters of his skills saw it that way and still do. I’m not talking off the field.

Remember…it’s HIS W/L total. All about him. He’s the savior and needs nothing but a below average team and roster to pull wins out of his ass from the very start.

  34. Jmarkbuc Says:

    What Conte said

  35. Oxycondoms Says:

I’m comfortable with Winston coming back of Fitz gets hurt or struggles . Howard and Goodwin is 1 year older , djax more comfortable with the team and offense , a new center a new playcaller . There was no fitzmagic last year . So to say Winston would struggle with this year’s version of the bucs would he jumping to conclusions way too fast

  36. Lionel Says:

    Thank you Lord Corneliusfor

  37. AlteredEgo Says:

87 stop calling Jameis critics “haters “ …. lazy ignorant vocabulary…

  38. csidedave Says:

The only opinions that matter now are those inside One Buc Place. One, do they still trust him to stay out of trouble and lead this franchise and two, do they believe he has the football skills they need to run this offense.

I have no idea, but for now, I am going to sit back and REALLY enjoy this ride and not stress about what may or may not happen.

The atmosphere Sunday was phenomenal and I cannot wait for Monday night.

  39. Silverbuc Says:

Conte, that might be true, but getting blasted on Monday Night football by Tampa, of all teams, might change things. I’m hoping for a big Bucs win by the way, and for Fitz to have another big game, by the way. Go Bucs!!!

  40. feelthepewterpower Says:

Winston was one of the best QB’s down the stretch last year with half the team on IR against teams looking to secure playoff spots. His ceiling is still enormous at only 24. Time to take a chill pill, people.

  41. feelthepewterpower Says:

And why was Fitz ineffective last year? Answer: the playcalling.

  42. Buc1987 Says:

    JameisNOT …the Ultimate Troll.

    This is great!

  43. Jmarkbuc Says:

    87

    FWIW..

I’m sure JW will be in the starting lineup again, and if he can play as well as Fitz he would stay there.

Bottom line is Fitz has shown what can be done with this team. JW will have to do at least as much. At this point, I’m in no hurry to find out.

It will all come out in the wash.

  44. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Oh and 87

What is a “Hater of his skills”

    You lost me….

  45. Anonymous Says:

It’s absolutely ridiculous to me how fiz has so many peoples fooled. He’s on his 8th team people! He’s not going to be the future, he’s not as talented as Jameis wake the hell up people…..

  46. Buc1987 Says:

csidedave …wow I wish I could go Monday.

    My b-day’s this Saturday….crossing fingers.

  47. feelthepewterpower Says:

although he deserves the PT and I would bench any QB in our division right now because the level he is playing at in favor of Fitzmagic….The main key is the play calling; Fitz’s play is just added gravy, and I feel Winston would have similar success in this environment (albeit I wish Winston would add more touch on his throws, instead of relying on last second arm strength and place the ball to a spot to let his receivers make plays with their height, speed, and aggressiveness; we did see Winston start to do a bit of that in the preseason, however). I did some research on the aggressive play calling from Monken leading to fewer penalties on offense. On a side note, this style of play calling also leads to defenses being off balance, fewer third downs overall (third-down success, while important, is overblown as ideally, you want to limit going to third downs and least make them manageable to where the defense doesn’t know where you must pass or run), fewer sacks, fewer turnovers from having to force the ball on plays where the defense must know you must pass, greater red zone success and scoring (running from an aggressive spread formation in the red zone is actually more successful than throwing believe it or not due to the confined throwing space with the boundaries and tighter coverage; plus with our rz weapons they must respect them over our rb’s), and usually longer time of possession (though we lost that battle to Philly and NOLA due quick scoring drives and playing prevent defense which….Mike Smith should take notes from Monken and be more aggressive). Getting back to the penalties….the early down success has led to the Buccs being fourth in the league in penalties against. Of the 11 penalties against, only TWO have been against the offense, with both penalties coming on false starts (my guess is that those two false starts came on third downs when the offense was not efficient on first and/or second down) leading to a third and long situation. No holding calls (less time we have to protect our qb), no OPI’s (less tight window throws, less coverage), no delay of games (taking the crowd out of it, less thinking offensively, and more reacting to the defense)! Like turnovers, penalties are a huge part of the game. How many times did we have killer drive ending penalties that would put of us in precarious spots and/or negate a big play? Thus, keeping teams off balance and attacking their weakness on a given play, and limiting third downs reduces our penalty risk and turnover risk, improves our line play, while increasing our execution and win probabilities. The Patriots have been top five in penalties against for the last decade or so, while the Buccs have bottom ten. The Patriots are well known for their aggressive offensive efficiency. Both teams are currently #1 and #4 respectively in this category! https://www.footballdb.com/stats/penalties.html?sort=dg

  50. Posey99 Says:

Either way you look at it, we have a good starting QB and a great backup. Good situation for the team as a whole with Winston in a contract year and the possibility of injuries.

  51. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

kellerman is a complete SJW loon as well as the other clown on that show, but if fitz continues to have the hot hand the bucs better keep in there as it seems the locker room agrees and if they just instill jameis and its just because they pay him more koetter WILL lose the locker room……wentz, goff, watson and now mahomes all seem to have passed jameis by on the next star nfl QB

  52. GhostofSchiano Says:

Oh, Oh, Oh It’s FITZMAGIC you know,

Here we come three and OH!

No Winston but still on with the show,

Too bad Jameis is feeling low,

Maybe this whole thing will help him grow,

Write an article on that will you JOE?

  53. Buc1987 Says:

Jmark…okay…peeps that constantly point to the lack of skills that they perceive he has.

Underthrows, overthrows, fumbles, INT’s…..boneheaded plays, dumb decisions….

It’s all they see. They see nothing else. That’s his skill set, BUT he better BE the savior. Cause number 1 pick and all. I think they just want to be right about something.

  54. ctord Says:

hopefully, this situation does not become a distraction leading to the eventual undoing of this team. this start could not have happened any better for the bucs. they were looking at 0-3 on paper. Let’s all enjoy this. I am hopeful whatever decision is made does not lead to the fracture of the locker room.

I love Jameis’ potential/play but with that said, YOU DON’T MESS WITH THIS CHEMISTRY.

  59. Robert Says:

“Underthrows, overthrows, fumbles, INT’s…..boneheaded plays, dumb decisions….

    It’s all they see.”

    RFLMAO

When your team sucks it’s all that matters brah! (especially with those weapons!)

  60. Buc1987 Says:

Jmark…Fitz is your type of QB. I already know that.

I’ll take either one. I’m VERY comfortable with Fitz in there right now….just like everyone else should be.

I’m sure Jameis is happy as a clam shell.

The national sports media knows nothing about the Bucs. It’s been discussed all the time on this site. Most of us get why. Some of us don’t care. I care. I’m one of those fans that wants to smack the NFL world in the mouth. Small market team. I want us to dominate.

  61. Bob Woolwine Says:

Rob in Land O’ Lakes and Lord Cornelius are very wise.
Ride the hot hand because it won’t last all year and he’s 35. There’s a reason he’s been on 8 teams

  62. D-Rome Says:

I was thinking about this the other day, and then I heard Rick Stroud mention it: If the Bucs keep winning it can create a lot of problems for the future. No matter how well Fitzpatrick plays, he is not the QB of the future. If the Bucs win against the Steelers and then against the Bears they can’t sit Fitzpatrick. If they keep Fitzpatrick as their starter moving forward, then how can the organization to back to Jameis once Fitz’s contract is up? If Fitz remains the starter the organization is, in a way, saying they don’t trust Jameis to win games for them. If the organization doesn’t trust Jameis to win games now, then why should the team feel any different next year?

This is a good problem to have as an organization and as fans especially if the team keeps winning. I don’t care who the starter is at QB. All I care about is wins. Koetter, Licht, ect…need wins to keep their jobs.

  63. Seminole Bill Says:

This is not a Jameis vs. Fitz thing. We are all cheering for Fitz because the team has beaten the odds. If Jameis comes back in game 4, I’ll cheer just as hard for him.

  64. Defense Rules Says:

Joe, this is getting to be hysterical … you’re like a dog with a bone. It’s really NOT all about Jameis. It’s about TEAM.

  65. Pittman's Biceps Says:

Why is Jameis Winston even a Buc to begin with?

Answer : cause the Bucs were the worst team in the NFL. Peeps forget that.

The better question is why is Fitz even a Buc?

Answer: cause Jameis couldn’t keep himself on the field. Putting aside questions of on-field skills, leadership, moxy, etc. (all legitimate questions, in my opinion) — how can you put any faith in a guy who has continually let down himself, his teammates, and his fan base with his off-field antics? Keep in mind this suspension would have been 6 games had he not settled with the league in advance.

Whatever you want to say about his skill set — how can you have any faith in the guy as the face of a franchise with his track record?

  66. Buc1987 Says:

    Rpbert…what weapons…last years?

  67. Not there yet Says:

licht doesn’t want to be fired either which is what happens if Winston doesn’t play or he plays bad when he returns. There’s maybe one team that needs a quarterback and that is the Giants. If you trade then we are there one in need of a quarterback.

Unless the team has already moved on from Winston he will eventually play again this year, because you don’t like it doesn’t mean anything. If they have already moved on like with Josh Freeman so be it. But look how long it took to replace Freeman who was less than average and a head case.

Don’t get these people who have already forgotten the Josh mccown years simply because of 2 games, I think he’s taking advantage of the Winston situation for another payday because he was average at best last year for 3 games

  68. Buc1987 Says:

Last years weapons and this years weapons…is that what you’re talking about?

So last season was his rookie year? LMAO….??? You’re a buffoon as usual.

  69. Brandon Says:

Bad math, Joe. Fitz 2-0 in 2018, 2-1 in 2017, and the big year with the Jets… 2015 maybe… and then maybe others… I think he went 6-6 with Tennessee or Houston. Either way, three of his last four seasons he’s been a winner when he played.

  70. Robert Says:

the guys fitz is using played here last as well. duh!

and it was fitz that saw the corner blitz to burn the igles and set the tempo for the game.

so stop with all the monken is the difference crap. (yes it matters, but puhhleeez)

Where the heck did rationale, informed discourse go? Everything, I mean everything is now dictated by unsubstantiated and emotional action/reaction. Thank you Joes for keeping up with facts.

Fact 1: Jameis is a very talented young quarterback who has improved across key statistical categories each/every year. His juvenile antics on and off the field have stunted his credibility in and out of the building, but the damage is not irreparable. He is more than capable at playing at a high-level.

Fact 2: Fitz is a savvy, charismatic vet who has had equal stretches of success and failure. He has played beyond expectations since coming to the Bucs and has done the one thing many folks never expected…embraced his role, maximized his opportunities and rallied the team/ town around the one thing that matters most: Ws

Fact 3: It is a week-to-week league. We are going to face adversity this season-Ds will adjust to what we’re doing- it’s a long season.

Fact 4: Dirk says it all the time- the guy who gives the team the best chance to win (week to week) will suit up and be under center.

Fact 5: We are better off with Fitz & Jameis right now- any talk of ditching Jameis is insane until/unless there’s a problem with the locker room.

  72. StessT Says:

Bucs should ride the Fitzmagic carpet until it comes back down to earth. Make no mistake — it will come crashing down at some point, be it in another game or five. However, it makes ZERO sense to make a switch until that happens.

Jameis gets his job back when Fitz no longer demonstrates a hot hand.

  73. Robert Says:

@ 87 I replied but the JBF beating censor kicked in and it’s not showing

  74. Frank Pillow Says:

Btw, I’m commenting on ESPN/Kellerman’s “take,” not the commentary here…you guys always bring a variety of perspectives and are real fans.

  75. Godeep66 Says:

@jameisnot: spot on with your assessment. Where have you been my friend. We need you

  76. Pittman's Biceps Says:

The better question is why is Fitz even a Buc in the first place?

Answer: cause Jameis couldn’t keep himself on the field. Putting aside questions of on-field skills, leadership, moxy, etc. (all legitimate questions, in my opinion) — how can you put any faith in a guy who has continually let down himself, his teammates, and his fan base with his off-field antics? Keep in mind this suspension would have been 6 games had he not settled with the league in advance.

Whatever you want to say about his skill set — how can you have any faith in the guy as the face of a franchise with his track record?

  77. Fartman Says:

Here is another stat. Sexual assaults JW: 2 Fitzmagic : 0

  78. adam from ny Says:

  79. Wausa Says:

That guy is the worst commentator on ESPN and has extreme political views.
He was tied with Jamele Hill as the worst, but ESPN paid that sanctimonious hack millions to go away.

Thankfully Jason Licht and the Glazier’s are not idiots like this guy.

  80. Bucsfanman Says:

Look at all the bickering! For what? What effing difference does it make right now?! We just curb-stomped 2 top-rated teams. And we did it as a, say it with me now,…….TEAM!
For those who still don’t get it, THE TEAM IS BIGGER THAN ONE PLAYER!
    Always has been, always will.
A QB can’t do it by himself without WRs, TEs, RBs, an o-line, and good play-calling.
Enjoy the winning! Who gives a crap who the QB is?
    Go Bucs!

  81. Etzel Says:

Kellerman has never watched a Bucs game with Jameis as QB and YOU ALL KNOW IT!

  82. Bucs_KG21 Says:

Jameis revenge tour starts Week 4

JW will be in the building at 4am with a gameplan for Chiacgo. Do you think Koetter tells JW he has to wait another 2 weeks while letting let dumb trade speculation build?

Half of these TD’s were admitted blown coverages, not like Fitz is making throws JW cannot make. Look at everyone’s quotes including Fitz carefully, this offense is a jiggernaught and JW will only make it better.

Do not get me wrong I am a die hard Bucs fan and fully enjoying this ride watching everyone eat their words. Us fans deserve this more than any other team (ok maybe not over Cleveland North).

    JW starts Week 4

  83. SOEbuc Says:

These guys along with all the other National NFL media had never watched two seconds of a Bucs game before these first two wins. Finally started to put a decent oline in front of Jameis and he will be that good. Anymore off field incidents you give him the big Australian boot to the curb.

  84. Robert Says:

    @kg21

the best thing JW can do is NOT have a “revenge” mentallity

if he comes back all he has to do is do his job. be a QB and a grown ass man

  85. Walter Seidel Says:

There is simply NO WAY Winston hits on those deep balls to Jackson and Evans like Fitz has done……….NO WAY. And besides, Winston is still a flawed character, period. Move on!!! GO FITZ!!! GO BUCS!!!

  86. James Walker Says:

    What great problems to have.

  87. Anonymous Says:

Didn’t Fitz play last year when Jameis was out. He didn’t play like he’s playing now. It was a different season. Who is to say Jameis wouldn’t come back and do the same thing Fitz is doing. Dumb to compare last year to this year when it’s clearly more than just Fitzmagic. I hope they rode with Fitz, but I’m not down on Jameis.

  88. Bucs_KG21 Says:

    @ Robert

    Agreed on both your comments

I just believe JW comes back cold and calculated like we’ve never seen

I also think there is a lot more to this than most muppets on tv and commenters “OMG Fitz! Hot Hand! The Blackjack analogy! Dont walk away from a heater!”

Koetter and JW tied to the hip, just dont see Koetter looking JW in his eyes and saying we’re going to wait

  89. Joel Says:

He’s absolutely right. Winston isnt that good. And neither is Mariota.

  90. SOEbuc Says:

    Bucsfanman

This is a team sport. I’m not a JW hater and I’m a die hard Bucs fan. The Bucs throwing comparison to running is off the charts with throws in the lead right now.

My question is, can Jameis get 400 yards and 4 TDs every game with a 60/40 throwing/running percentage? He did throw for a record breaking 4,000 yards in his first two years.

I think him and DJax and Jimbo practicing so much on the deep ball this past year will help him. With a good oline and using play action and scrambling more often, I think he can finally make the turn into a top QB.

He looked damn fine in the preseason when the unfaithful, so called Bucs fans couldn’t wait for week 4.

  91. Wausa Says:

I don’t understand why as Bucs fans we can not be happy we have a fantastic QB situation.

Jamies was number 2 in the NFL in passer rating over the last month of the season last year(Brady was number 1) and was number 1 this preseason in the NFL. Fitz is number 1 in the regular season.

If either gets hurt the Bucs should still be in a great position.

  92. SOEbuc Says:

No reason not to start Jameis Week 4. If Fitz losses on Monday night, bring in Jameis against Chicago to go evaluate the two during the week 5 bye week. Fitz wins against Pittsburgh and we have even more leverage as a team being 3-0 and Fitz will have more leverage at making the starting position after evaluation during the bye week.

  93. rrsrq Says:

It is like Max looked down at his notes, Jameis stats and was getting ready to spit them out, then he said oops better not do that, I will just say “I don’t think he is very good”, stats did not support his argument nor does JW actions the last two years which have been a whisper

  94. Joel Says:

You fools don’t understand the short week. Or the fact that Jameis has been out of the offense for 3 weeks now. Fitz starts week 4 no matter what happens on MNF. Idiots.

  95. Joel Says:

    Stats are for losers.

  96. Iamabuc Says:

People need to understand that Winston did not and has not lost his job. He was just suspended for 3 games. He is our starter, this IS his offense. Fitz has looked good because this is arguably one of the best NFL offenses this year. Fitz will be Fitz, believe me. Althou he has looked great , you might’ve notice a couple of bad throws. He is not the future, Jameis is. After more than 2 years out of trouble and being a new daddy; I still believe in him. If you think Fitz is looking good, wait until “tha Boss” comes back. Look out NFL. But haters, racist people will always bitch for no good reason. Just Go Bucs!

  97. JimmyJack Says:

Lama…..Winston has lost his job for at least one game. That being the Bears game.

Fitz had a chance to win the start for that game and he earned it with flying colors……..and just like the NFL is one game at a time the QB decision may be the same.

  98. Robert Says:

    lol

Fitz took the snaps with the #1’s in preseason. He is lighting it up. this is Fitz team until after the bye week.

@KG21 I hope JW is calculated, not so much cold though. Hope he appreciates this learning exprerience and gives mad props where their due. i.e. some of the guys he couldn’t hit and might want to say thats on me brah and start off fresh.

  99. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Last week Max Kellerman said the exact opposite. These guys say what the network tells them to.

  100. JimmyJack Says:

And probably the biggest factor in all of this is Dirk trying to keep his job which means winning at all costs. He does not have the time to try to start substituting a QB that is playing better then the best.

Its not about who is the better QB right now its about who can run the offense better. You can’t even find one fault if Fitzmagic if you tryed right now…..that dictates that Fitz must play……….Ask yourself one question. Fitz called a TO just before one of his TD throws (the OJ one I think). He saw something and wanted to change the p!at..,….Would Winston have seen the same? You don’t know. Nobody know. But if I’m betting on who can do it again my money is on the guy who just proved it.

  101. JimmyJack Says:

And I freaking love Winston. And I hope his career ends right here when I’m old and grey. And I have no problems with him taking a backseat for a bit.

I just hope he doesn’t act like a b!!CH and a baby if he doesn’t get to play. It does not seem like he is that type of player but I don’t know him personally so ya never know.

I also think this can be a very humbling and meaning time for his career and he can learn a lot. Nothing wrong with a still very young QB taking advantage of a extra chance to further his development and working hard to give us a QB we can really be proud of!!

Winston has shown a lot of heart here in Tampa. Use it baby!!!!

    GOO BUCS!!!!!

  102. Godeep66 Says:

All this discussion about someone who is not even a part of the team. JBoo Who????

  103. Godeep66 Says:

Newsworthy: the Tampa Bay Buccaneers did pick up JW‘s 2019 option at $20.5 million. Although, it is only guaranteed if he is injured! Look for the Buccaneers to not have him play a game this year and then cut him at the end of the year and not have to pay him a dime!!!!! Now you may get a better understanding on why he got rid of his agent. I guess Jason Licht is not as dumb as we will thought he was.

  104. gotbbucs Says:

The preseason stats arguement is ridiculous. Just stop.

Here’s the bottom line, Fitzpatrick is hitting the receivers on the same exact routes that Winston missed on last year with the same exact receiving group. What’s that tell you? Winston could have been putting up these numbers last year too, but physically he wasn’t capable. Not because of an injury, but because he is physically unable to throw accurate enough passes to A) actually put the ball where the player can catch it, and B) hit them in stride so they can get some YAC, and that has been the case for the last three years. It wont change.

Fitzpatrick is going along at a 78% clip and the locker room is loving it. I would not be opposed to having Winston inactive on game days when he comes back and put a new plan in place for this team that doesn’t include Winston.

It looks like a much more mature team on the field without the clown distracting his teammates, let’s keep it that way.

  105. miken Says:

At least we arein the news. Before this it was only about Jameis and suspensions and what he did ect… At least now we have something good going on

  106. Godeep66 Says:

Here is a stat for all of you Stat freaks. Fitzpatrick is on his way to throwing 64 TDs and over 6700 yards for 2018 Now do you really believe that will happen????? No.

  107. Marlow vs. Florence Says:

Good or not, he is a distraction to the team and a distraction to himself. Distractions are bad for reaching team and personal goals. From his pregame antics and rants to his off field judgement(s), he is clearly not ready to lead a team of men. Once he gets his own house in order, maybe we will see him develop into a reliable QB. Talent can only take you but so far, and he is looking over the edge of that cliff for which there is no return.

  108. gotbbucs Says:

“Everybody can say what they want about Jameis in the media and stuff. My whole family, we have nothing but the utmost respect for that kid for what he did for Sean (last) week. From Wednesday on, he prepped Sean and was by his side the whole entire time. Another class act, after the game he went up to Sean and he goes, ‘I want to meet your parents.’ We were in the locker room and the kid came up to us — and he didn’t have to — shook my hand, gave my wife a hug and said, ‘Congratulations, this kid did a great job, and enjoy the moment.’ ”

But Jameis is all about Jameis, and he needs to grow up…

  111. FreeTheSecretWeapon Says:

The decision was made in the off season… Win or Lose the first 4, JW is your QB after the bye week.

    ITS AS SIMPLE AS THAT!!!

  112. m0j0 Says:

Sorry to say, but Winston is still the best QB on the team, even though Fitzpatrick is playing great football right now. He will be back under center no later than the 1st game after the bye week, and maybe before, depending on how the team does against Pittsburgh. Either way, I just want to see the Bucs keep it rolling!

  113. Mike Johnson Says:

No Debate whatsoever. Ride fitz until he Fizzles out. This little suspended episode in Jameis’s career just might be the best thing ever happenned to him. Fitz got about 1 more season left in him at the most. jameis is young. Bucs will pick up his option. They’d be foolish not to do so. But for now, Fitz is da Man. SOEbuc- I just want the team to win. It would be nice if it works out with our #1 overall pick. Lord knows, the search has been a long one.
It’s just exciting football right now in Buc-land!

I do think that Jameis is going to start for us at some point. What we have to consider is that there are coaches careers on the line. Winning games is way more important right now than making sure your #1 pick gets reps.
He has the skills. It’s just a matter of putting it all together.

  117. Rod Munch Says:

I believe the stat I saw said Fitz has started off 2-0 three different times and non of those teams made the playoffs. I hope, really hope, that isn’t the case for a fourth time, but then again at some point the numbers have to return back to the mean, which would mean a positive regression for Fitz.

  118. Rod Munch Says:

Said it yesterday but Winston threw 5 TDs last time he faced the Eagles and he blew them out 45-17, Fitz only had 4 TDs and kept the game close.

Last time out against the Saints, Winston went the full length of field with under 2 mins left in the game and no timeouts and threw a perfect bomb to Godwin to win the game just before the clock ran out. Fitz has yet to throw a TD this season in the last 5 mins of the game, which is crunch time, the time when it matters most.

I’m really not very impressed with Fitz so far.

  119. Robert Says:

Rod is a perfect example of “you can’t fix stupid”

fitz hasn’t screwed himself so he can have a comeback in the final minutes?

    GTFO lol

  120. JimmyJack Says:

Gotbucs……..What the heck was their plan going in? I don’t see how you can think they have been thinking about cutting Winston. It just doesn’t make any sense when they knew Winston was getting suspended since last November and they went into the off season looking at a draft classy that had…how many…..3?4?5?6? QBs taken in the top round.

The only way your scenario makes sense to me is if the Biucs went into the off season with no plan at QB or if they went onto this with a plan they didn’t really like.

I just don’t see how cutting Winston is a option here…..unless we have a new regime next year

  121. LongSeason Says:

My problem with Jameis isn’t his on field play. Yeah, there is room for improvement. My problem is when you tie the rape allegation and the grabbed crotch together with a common witness in Ronald Darby and a lie that says Darby the guy in jail were with Jameis the whole ride and the GPS data that says they were not then it doesn’t look good for Jameis off the field. Hard to root for someone who looks to have actually committed a rape and then a sexual assault. It was bad enough to have spousal abuser Pittman on our Super Bowl team and now we have the strong possibility that Jameis is a sex offender. He needs to own up and take responsibility. Otherwise, Fitzmagic until he fizzles.

  122. Bucsfanman Says:

Rod Munch- My eye started twitching when you started talking about “regression” and “mean”!!!
I think you’re nit-picking a little. Fitz has done what’s expected and more of a back-up QB. We can go through the “ifs” all day but Fitz has captained a phenomenal offense thus far.
If you look at the two “close” games, a FG in game 1 absolutely ICES the game, in game 2 a missed XP and a fumble by Evans probably allowed the Eagles to stay relevant. Outside of those plays, those games weren’t all that close, IMO.
As to his career, look at the TEAMs he was on. Objectively, were they as talented? I don’t think so.
You don’t have to be impressed by him, just root for him to beat Pittsburgh!
    Go Bucs!

  123. JimmyJack Says:

Rod is not impressed with Fitz. That sure is a interesting way to troll.kudos I guess

  124. stpetebucsfan Says:

“This is not a Jameis vs. Fitz thing. We are all cheering for Fitz because the team has beaten the odds. If Jameis comes back in game 4, I’ll cheer just as hard for him.”

    Seminole Bill F T W!

It’s entirely possible that Fitz and Jameis are BOTH good QB’s. I think most here….although obviously not all of us..believe Fitz’s ceiling has been reached which is very good. I think JW’s ceiling “might” be great…if not he too will be very good.

And what was JW best known for? Desperate and successful comebacks. If Fitz falters…JW will be right there.

I think he starts game 5 against Atlanta. Even if Fitz loses the next two he turns it over to JW at 2-2 with a HUGE game against division rival Atlanta. We’ll need #3’s best for that game for sure.

Meanwhile game four is against a dangerous (can you say Khalil Mack) Chicago team in a short week. Why force feed JW in a limited number of practices…meanwhile the next week is our bye and that means JW could have the Chicago week to sharpen up in practice and then two weeks to prepare for Atlanta.

  125. JimmyJack Says:

Bucsfan…….yes, neither of them games were close we beat the shi! Out of both them teams.

The saints game reminded me of the Cards game last year. We made it close but needed a miracle to pull it out.

    This. All day.

That is extreamly stupid. Say you hate Jameis? What?? I don’t hate Jameis, it’s his decision making. You say he was top 10 to end the season… lol. His best stretch as a pro was the last 4 games of the year where we went 1-3 and he turned the ball over 8 times. Eight times and we average 20 points a game. The great finale against the saint he threw 3 picks but the d held so we didn’t pay the price. Is it to much to ask to hit the recievers in stride? Fitz is playing lights out and recievers are having to stop for the ball and he has no run game. I haven’t seen corn this triggered since i told him how stupid drafting a kicker was. Those are actual football fact to be wary of jameis

  127. Fartman Says:

Here is a a football arguement: 800 yards passing, 8 tds, a QB rating north of 150, 0 sexual assaults. This is a no brainer. Winston deserves to sit a year for what he did, IMO.

  128. Ryan T. Says:

I’m not saying Fitz is a long-term option at QB. I WILL, however, say that whenever Winston is playing I find myself yelling at the TV screen “DON’T DO ANYTHING STUPID! DON’T DO ANYTHING STUPID!”

I don’t do that when Fitzmagic is playing because he DOESN’T DO ANYTHING STUPID! Jameis may have a higher ceiling, but he makes too many moronic decisions. Its case of “one step forward and three steps backwards” far too often with him under center.

I would love to see Jameis warm the bench for a while until he understands that.

  129. Fartman Says:

What he did not only makes him a horrible person. But also a horrible team mate. He let a whole city down. He did the one thing he couldn’t do. Which to me means he can’t help it and he has a mental issue. Let him sit.

  130. Destinjohnny Says:

I think adding Peyton barber must have been the difference for all the success?

  131. Bucsfan77 Says:

I’m a JW3 supporter, but you absolutely leery Fitz do his thing till his play dictates letting Jameis take over again. For all the Jameis Nasayers his suspension resulted from an allegedly incident that happened in 2016, it was the inept ability for Roger Goodell to prove anything other then a he said/she said argument so he handed down the suspension for conduct unbecoming, other words hurting the NFL image. Any CEO would do the same to help lessen the blow to their Named Brand. SINCE then Jameis has been a pillar in the Tampa community, has had a child of his own (which many of us knows makes you grow up fast and change your lifestyle and priorities ) I have been a bucs fan my entire life, yes we have many reasons to be fickled, apprehensive, nervous, even scared of when this magic carpet ride will end. There is a saying, the past is the past, the present is now, tomorrow is the future. You can’t change what has happened in the past, you can only live in today and look to the future. Never live in the past but allow it to shape your future.

To compare any pervious season stats or w/like records has no bearings on this season, different O line, different play caller, different team mentality. Only way to truly judge this season will be at the end when the Bucs raise that Lombardi one more time.

  132. buc15 Says:

St Pete & Lord C nailed it. Fitz is balling out at the moment but let’s not throw away the future for this season and keep in mind Fitz only has a couple years left at best. I agree Fitz should start the next 2 games since he is red hot but the coaches can evaluate the situation during the bye week. The real question to me is after this year do we part ways with Fitz or Griffin?

  133. Wesley Says:

Jameis is the future so get over it folks!!

  134. Wausa Says:

    I agree with Wesley.
If the Bucs were dumb enough get rid of Jamies(they wont) it would rival their decision to get rid of Steve Young.

I hope Fitz goes 16-0, but the reality is Jamies is going to be the Bucs future as he should be.

  135. dont assume Says:

Fartman, shut your yap. What exactly did he do? Do you know? Were you there? Do you have proof?

  136. gotbbucs Says:

I will never ever be able to get the “eating W’s” scene out of my mind…

Really though, there has to be some serious trust questions going on behind closed doors. How can a team feel comfortable giving a $100+ million dollar contract to Winston when they are watching Fitzpatrick light the NFL on fire at a minuscule fraction of that cost?

I dont know what the answer is, but I do know the answer wasn’t obvious what to do about Winston’s 2nd contract before this gropping incident came to light and now watching Fitzpatrick do this makes it even less clear.

Licht saying that Winston wasn’t guaranteed the starting spot when he returned wasn’t an empty threat. They knew what an decent QB should be capable of with these weapons.

Something else to take into consideration too is that neither Licht nor Koetter are technically married to Winston, that was Lovies pick when he had complete roster control. I’m not sure Licht as a first time GM and Koetter as a first time head coach want to have their legacy be that they hitched their wagon to an alleged serial sexual predator and immature bonehead that is one misconduct away from a one year suspension.

Basically, if they have any doubts about how they want to proceed they need to be very careful, because if Winston tears and ACL or blows his shoulder out and needs surgery they are guaranteeing him $20 million dollars next year on the 1st day of the league year.

  137. Oneilbucs Says:

The only thing I say is if we go down by 2 td we are going to lose. I just never seen him come back from being down in a game.

  138. Dave Says:

How about being happy about the roll your team is on and realize JW will take the helm when and if Fitz fizzles out. In the meantime, just roll with it!!

  139. Gene Deckehoff is my hero Says:

What’s lost in all of this is how Chris Godwin has the best young WR hands in the league. He catches everything thrown his way. The Bucs have a top 5 WR core and the OLine is blocking it up! The defense needs work, but the offense is covering for them. This has been a fantastic surprise and a fun start to a long season. The only gripe I have is the Vita Vea pick. They could really use Derwin James Jr. in the secondary.

  140. Walter Seidel Says:

Yes, I am PROUDLY a member of the so-called “Anti-Jameis Crowd”…and NOW………He’s in the headlines AGAIN!!! Uber driver just file a lawsuit…….it is gonna get UGGGGLLLYYYYY!!!!!! Time to DUMP him and move on!!!!!

    FITZMAGIC!!! GO BUCS!!!

  141. tnew Says:

For the same team as last season argument… Not even remotely close. The worst spot on the offensive side was the interior line. All three positions addressed. The pass protection, especially from the interior of the line is night and day. (still wish we kept Pamphile, believe he wanted to play Tackle and the Bucs wanted him on interior. Tackles pay more) Benenoch was not suited for tackle but is ok at Guard. I love Marpet, but Jensen might be a pro bowl center this season if he continues playing like he has to this point.

Go watch some film people. OJ Howard (used mainly for his blocking) was coming off the field in the red zone very often and Godwin was sparingly used prior to the DJax injury. Koetter leaned on a historically poor running back in Martin until the end of the season. Monken’s play design is all over this offense. The route trees are very, very different this season. Actually take some time and watch some film.

The other weakness was the worst d-line results in football. I’m pretty sure Baker, McDonald (he might be) or Ayers are not on an NFL roster.

    This was a major rebuild.

Now Fitz is playing well and the Bucs should ride him as long as he is succeeding. I hope there is a choice to be made after the Chicago game. Mack going up against either tackle scares me to death. But this whole Fitz is the only difference that some are floating is utter nonsense. Go back and watch the Fitz games last season. Preseason, did matter too… if you didn’t see this coming in the preseason, you just weren’t paying attention.

Monken has figured out how to use Evans, DJax and Godwin interchangeably as outside and slot guys. Last season the starting slot receiver was Hump.. I like Humphries but he is clearly a number 4 WR and a number 5 option in the passing game. Also, how can we overlook the back that is Charles Sims not being on this team. He just wasn’t that effective in that role. I’ve seen enough from the young man from Duke to know he has more potential there.

    VERY DIFFERENT Group.

The fun thing is when Winston takes over either week 4, week 6 or maybe in the first playoff game after an injury the anti-James crowd will tuck their tails and move along because their gloating days will be over. Enjoy the ride anti-Jameis crowd because it is not going to last forever. Sooner or later Winston will be the starting QB of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and there will be nothing you can do about it.

When Jameis returns, it will be Must See football.

Game Highlights on YouTube and NFL app and
Baldy’s Breakdowns are fun- 90 pct of rest of sports media is garbage

What happened to my follow-up, it was never posted. Anywho of course I was messing with you Winston haters, just giving you an example of how incredibly moronic you dopes sound by reversing who is doing what. The point is if you hate Winston, think he’s a terrible QB and want him gone you’re an unreasonable d-bag whose opinion doesn’t matter.

But anywho you ride Fitz until his hot streak is over and then Jameis comes in. Simple stuff…. and if Fitz’s hot streak doesn’t end, well then the Bucs are world champions and Winston is still under contract for next year. Works for me.

    I’ve noticed…

The same people saying that Jameis is DONE with the Bucs are the same people that said we’d be 0-3 without him….

  147. Rod Munch Says:

celly – They are also the morons that said D-Jax was just stealing money, they said after week 1 that JPP was a bust, they’re just bores and very low IQ individuals.

  148. THETRUTH Says:

Yes same people who said trade DJ and is no good !! Typical buc fans who show lack of knowledge. Who is top WR in league at moment ? Who is got speed we have never seen here in TB ?

Smith also predicted Bucs to win 3 games probably. That guy never put on a helmet u less holloween. Just a loud mouth who hopes he makes a right call every once in a while to stay credible.

  149. Godeep66 Says:

Call me a prophet. Breaking news. We should have traded this clown.

The woman said Winston, 24, groped her in the drive-thru of a Mexican restaurant in the Phoenix area in March 2016. The woman is seeking more than $75,000 in damages, according to court documents.

“She is unimpressed by his continued lack of honesty or awareness into his behavior,” John Clune, the woman’s attorney, told the paper. “Maybe a more direct financial penalty will get his attention. He needs to learn from this and have some genuine insight or pay the penalty.”

The suit comes as Winston approaches the final game of the suspension, and with the team off to a 2-0 start.

I, for one, CANNOT wait until this ridiculous, Sports Media-Driven debate ends. Its a no brainer, ride Fitz until he runs out of gas – which I guarantee you, he will – then put JW3 back in. Enough already with this debate….
