Brent Grimes Didn’t Travel With Team To New Orleans; Out For Sunday’s Game

September 8th, 2018

The bad news is in.

The Bucs’ best cornerback won’t be dressed for tomorrow’s game against New Orleans. Joe has learned Brent Grimes did not make the trip with the team.

There was slim hope after the announcement of Grimes’ groin injury yesterday; he was listed as “doubtful” on Friday’s injury report.

Rookie Carlton Davis? Rookie M.J. Stewart? Ryan Smith? At least two of those guys likely get a lot of work tomorrow. The Bucs also promoted veteran CB Javien Elliot off the practice squad after a minor roster move.

Joe sure hopes the Bucs offense can keep Drew Brees off the field. That would help immensely.

    I’m sick to my stomach

  2. thunderchunkyPA Says:

Please no SMITH, good lord Joe(s) just give them the W in that case. Play the rookies.

  3. Rob Says:

So injured he can’t even be on the sidelines for his teammates. Better hope we sack Brees 5 times with a sack fumble and two picks, otherwise we lose by four touchdowns. Go Bucs!

  4. thunderchunkyPA Says:

This is what you get from a 35 yo CB who had injury issues last year. I hope the rookies get up to speed fast.

  5. Dewey Selmon Says:

3 rookies in the secondary could of used a vets voice on the sidelines.

  7. Not there yet Says:

He’s hardly practiced this entire summer so when he tries to ramp it up this happens. We won’t be able to depend on him this year not at that age

  8. Chris in WA Says:

Why why why didn’t this team get a Veteran Corner? Did Robert McClain hit someones car in the parking lot and never own up to it? Where is this dude?

  9. Waterboy Says:

I like Grimes but father time is undefeated. He was battling injuries most of last season that should’ve been a sign to Licht/Koetter that his body would more than likely be in further decline this season.

  10. LakeLand Says:

    lol Kobe

  11. LakeLand Says:

I know Brent and Miko are enjoying their Florida vacation.

  12. Dan Says:

Loss number one of twelve on its way. Go Bucs!! Please get a new coach new GM and a president of football operations after this horrible season is over. We are sick of this!!

  13. Sweeptheleg Says:

Where’s all the 10-6 idiots that live with their heads in the sand?

    41-20
Saints all day. And people remember that it’s still the Bucs and come down to reality.

  14. ColoradoBucs Says:

Joe, sorry it’s unrelated to Grimes (truly bummed about that with us going to Bree’s house without him), but why hasn’t there been any news about who was selected team captains?

  15. JimmyJack Says:

I’ve loved Brent Grimes here but honestly the guy will be an afterthought if our youngsters show good ability out there tomorrow.

And why not use these two guys? I’m not understanding all the buyer’s remorse within the fanbase that Licht didn’t sign a retread.

I want to see what our new players got. I don’t wanna see a free agent. As far as I’m concerned Licht and company got those corners in round 2 for this exact scenario………If the rooies looked iffy in TC Llcht would have made a move and if they can’t hack it tomorrow he will probably make a move.

  16. Trench War Says:

Had Licht signed a couple veteran CB’s then there wouldn’t have been room on the 53 man roster for all the rookies. Licht would have had to take a chance on putting them on the PS but they would have been claimed had he done that. We’re just gonna have to live with it until these guys settle in. There will be rookie mistakes but it is keep them on the 53 or watch other teams pilfer our PS

  17. JimmyJack Says:

Sweeptheleg……..I don’t believe I have made any predictions but I’ll do my first one now.

10-6!!!!!…..just for you buddy. And why not? Both our lines have high cielings. Our secondary has a high cieling. We also got a good pass attack.

The potential is there man. Whether you see it or not

So let me get this right you come to a Bucs fan site and rip people for being excited about their team before a game has even been played in the season. My friend you are truly the definition of a loser. The people like me who choose to get excited may or may not be wrong but for you sir it won’t matter who wins cause with your outlook on life it seems you will never actually be happy. Good luck and if we do lose I hope you really enjoy it cause it certainly appears you will.

Every free agent enjoys a fl vacation on glazers tinker bell 93 shows them all the buccaneer way and the route to bank

  20. Trench War Says:

    Ndog

    thankyou man

  21. Ndog Says:

Also it is time to move on from Grimes he is hurt most of the time, can’t play press, doesn’t travel with the best receivers and cause to much money for a 8-10 game a year player. Play Davis, Stewart, and Hargreaves and let the future begin now. Heck play Whitehead too instead of Conte.

  22. JimmyJack Says:

I didn’t even skip a beat when I first heard about Grimes injury. The way I figured is that this team will likely set Carlton outside and they are totally confident in that decision. I’ll buy in.

Heck, maybe they even do go with Ryan Smith. If that’s the case I’ll buy in too cause the only way they do that is if they think he has improved vastly. If he is in there I will expect him to look much much better then last year.

And yeah if our corners get toasted I’ll join the crowd that blames management for making awful decisions.

But til the game gets played I’m gonna buy and and believe this team turns a corner and starts playing solid football for a change. It’s more exciting!!!!

    GOO BUCS!!!!!!

  23. dmatt Says:

Over the past three years our defense has average two sacks a game against Brees. With a potential improved defense n top ranked receivers, that might be enough to steal a win in the Superdome. Let’s run the no huddle n just do our best to put POINTS on the board every time our offense has the ball.

  24. Doctor Stroud Says:

The Bucs coaches will want to see what the rookies can do, rest injured (and slightly injured players), experiment with different schemes, etc., and let the chips fall where they may. This is not to say that the team will lose, but the fans should prepare themselves for what will be the Bucs’ extended pre-season.

  25. Alexander Nascimento Says:

Ohhh… Tomorrow win will taste extra special now…
    Speaking softly…
    Go Bucs!!!

  26. Sweeptheleg Says:

Lmao I live in the land of reality.

    Your excitement means nothing.

I’ve missed less than 5 games since 1987.

Most of you every year make outrageous claims only to be let down disappointed and pissed off. Anyone who believes 10-6 with this schedule is a possibility has no idea what sport they’re watching.

    6-10

  27. stpetebucsfan Says:

    NDOG

    Well said!!!

  28. Ndog Says:

And your negativity means nothing what’s your point. Sorry if I like to hope my team wins, my bad what was I thinking.

  29. Sweeptheleg Says:

Anyone who uses the letter “N” in place of the word “AND” shouldn’t be allowed to comment until they attend 3rd grade again.

It’s pathetic that someone expects to be taken seriously with that level of vocabulary.

  30. Sweeptheleg Says:

    @ndog

I want the Bucs to win as much as anyone. I’ve been a fan since I was 7years old. Only teams I care about are Tampa teams.

However people need to temper their expectations and be realistic.

  31. JimmyJack Says:

Sweeptheleg…….I don’t know why your so so concerned with predictions. There is a reason I said I didn’t do one and that is because they don’t mean squat.

So what of I predict 10-6. If we get blown out tomorrow I’ll be the first to say that 10-6 was a bad call. It doesn’t mean Im any idiot or don’t know what I’m talking about. And if we upset the Saints tomorrow it doesn’t mean you didn’t know what you were talking about either.

after we start playing some games there will be a whole nother level of conversation and nobody will be talking about predictions.

The only reason people are predicting 10-6 is because they’re not just going to concede a loss before they even play. I don’t see why it’s such a big deal

  32. Rod Munch Says:

I wonder if Pittsburgh would trade Le’Veon Bell for Ronald Jones? I mean I get the morons think Jones is a bust already, but a 2nd rounder for a year of Bell would be a good deal on the Bucs behalf. If the Rams can figure out how to sign everyone the Bucs can figure out how to give Bell a big deal. For Pittsburgh, at this point I think they’d be more than happy to dump Bell so long as they can save face. They’d still want something of value, which is what Ronald would be. This helps both sides.

    Make the call Licht.

Or better yet do nothing… like you did this offseason and put the team in the position to have to start Chris Conte and Ryan Smith (and no, a couple of second round corners shouldn’t be expected to be starters in their first game on the road against a 1st ballot HOFer).

  33. Godeep66 Says:

Grimes is simply taking the Bucs money. He and his wife has had this planned all along. JPP will be next just like to O and Dline bets that we have picked up the past couple of years….just using the organization for a pay day. Jason “The Ball” Lichter has got to get rung.

  34. Rod Munch Says:

Godeep66 – Cool story, thanks for sharing.

  35. Trench War Says:

    @Sweeptheleg

You claim 6 – 10 …ok ..we’ll give you that. But why the hell can we not hope this is at least 1 of those 6 wins? sheesh Give it (get this) a darn rest “n” quit being a nancy.

  36. Trench War Says:

Oh and let me be the first to type at 8:36PM Go Bucs! Hope the rooks play well and Fitz executes to perfection!

  37. LakeLand Says:

CB De’Vante Harris is on IR now, he only took the Bucs for $630,000. Mitch Unrein took the suckers for $3,000,000.

  38. Godeep66 Says:

Will Grier is 20 out of 25 with 3 TDS through 3 quarter. Will The Thrill will be our first round pick next year!!!!

  39. Bigmike36 Says:

Saints fan here.good luck tomorrow and I hope both teams stay healthy.if the saints dont win the NFC south then I hope its tampa.

  40. BucEmUp Says:

Carlton Davis should be pressing but he will be guessing instead.

    WHY???!!!!!!!

  41. JimmyJack Says:

I’m calling out our LBers here. We are looking at a lot of playmaking ability from that group yet we haven’t seen them show it much in big games. Those guys should?/could? be the heart and soul of this defense.

Our Linebackers haven’t been getting much talk but I wanna see them lead the way tomorrow. If our line plays as advertised there will be a lot of plays avialable that good LBs make!!!

    GOOO BUCS!!!!

  42. donuts Says:

    Take the over!
    GO Bucs!

  43. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Grimes is a pro…he wants to play….whiners can eat $h-it sandwiches

  44. JimmyJack Says:

Joe I do like all the things your site has to offer for Buc Fans. But I do have to be critical with the lack of juice you guys offer the night before game 1.

Where’s the Joe that’s wearing the #28 jersey? He needs to show up and help get the crowd fired up!!!!

    GOOOO BUCS!!!

  45. ATLBuc Says:

In the beginning of Last season the talking heads predicted the Saints would have a bad year primarily because they were starting two rookies at the corners. ONe of those turned out to be the defensive rookie of the year. This injury to Grimes May be a blessing in disguise. Based on how I saw these guys flying around in the preseason I’m looking forward to seeing them get out there and doing their thing.

  46. Godeep66 Says:

Will Grier update with 14 minutes left in the 4th qtr.

    7WVU
    W. Grier
    21-26 4 TD 332 yards.

  47. Defense Rules Says:

@SweepTheLeg … “I want the Bucs to win as much as anyone. I’ve been a fan since I was 7years old.” If you REALLY believe your 1st statement there SweepTheRug, then you’re more delusional than you accuse everyone of being. With fans like you the Bucs had better be planning their move to Oakland or wherever. And as far as your 2nd statement goes, does that mean that you’ve been rooting for the Bucs for 1 year or 2?

  48. Reality-is-a-Beotch Says:

    D R

this team has SUCKED and EMBARRASSED the sport of football and tampa for NEARLY 2 DAMN DECADES! When are you going to stop apologizing for the failed organization and accept the fact the glazers have NO desire to field a competitive product. No matter how patient you are or how many excuses you make that does not make you a better fan. It just means you just keep lowering your standards every damn year while living in complete denial.

  49. Jeffbuc Says:

Tomorrow tomorrow I love you tomorrow. Can’t wait for tomorrow your only a day away.

  50. Jeffbuc Says:

Not even traveling? I get the feeling Grimes is done. He may have realised through camp that it’s time to hang up the cleats. Licht needs to make a move.

  55. Oxycondoms Says:

  57. Trench War Says:

    Oxycondoms

    No, he has optirectumitis

  58. JimmyJack Says:

Big Poppa you might be right. And agreed Licht should make a move. My thought is that he should play this by ear and see how this secondary performs tomorrow. Then he will know how many snaps he will be needing from the acquisition.

  59. Doctor Stroud Says:

I have to say that BigMike 36’s comment is very magnanimous! Let’s hope that there are no (more) injuries, especially proprioception.

  60. Rod Munch Says:

Wait wait wait… the Saints now have a male cheerleader!? How did I not know this? I just saw a video this cupcake prancing around doing ballet on the field, and no, I’m not kidding. How embarrassing it must be to a Saints fan. LOL!

  61. Real-as-a-butch, Sportsfan Says:

Some synonyms for fan are enthusiast, supporter, aficionado and booster. Fan is supposedly short for fanatic.

Bucs will beat the Saints, 27-24.

No Excuses! Wreak havoc! … :-V

  64. Trench War Says:

    Go Bucs! ..I’m out

  65. Matthew Says:

Well of course there’s gonna be people mad he’s hurt again . The shi* talkers are on here crying surely . Heck I’m mad too. The reality is he’s still a beast when healthy and if he’s legit hurt then why play. Problem is we could really use him. 24 pds in one season In tampa bay just shows us he’s still good , 3 or 4 interceptions every year shows us he’s still a beast. I just don’t want people to make us out to be the bad guy or him and his wife to be the bad people we like grimes and his wife here. Media always blows things out of proportion . Lot of these starters really shouldn’t even be playing . For the first 3 weeks I would just be trying new guys out and giving guys heavy reps. Barber is the only back I trust we can’t afford to lose him when Winston gets back. We need the guys we have healthy and ready to make a week 4 run .
The bucs would be wise to try to win using less aggressive tactics. Just be lienent and easy going. Don’t be like forcing things to happen trying to make the game go by faster. Easy basic plays don’t force it or rely on any 1 person just play football and don’t give up.

  66. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

LOL @ Trench. No 2nd rounder is ever going to be place on the practice squad. SMH.

  67. Matthew Says:

I’m actually looking forward to seeing vh3 , Stewart , and Davis starting . What 3 young DBs can do without grimes against a star QB at the end of the day is always gonna be good news for us. 1 it can’t get worse than.last year’s defense. 2. Larger corner with David in there over grimes .So lot more unexpected interceptions you wouldn’t of seen last year with grimes. A physical tackler in Stewart and physical tackler in vh3 means we have at least 2 CBs who can tackle WRS that’s like a huge deal.. I’m more worried about Davis not tackling well rather not covering well. Think he will have a Justin Evans like year then have a great year 2 recovery . Stewart reminds me of Charles Tillman in his prime. A guy who’s is athletic and can make plays happen in any given scenario. Think we finally have a kicker. So that’s a positive for now. O line should be okay if everyone who is supposed to start plays and is healthy. Offense I’m curious to see what monken runs . DK doesn’t really have a choice but to let monken run plays now. Too much improvement with him over Dirk. To call a good offense you have to understand your offense and think ahead about what the defense wants to do to your guys and strategize around that. So many coaches can’t figure this out .idk why it’s so hard. Lol

  68. horse liver Says:

    0-1 start.

    Blame it on Glazer.

  69. Reality-is-a-Beotch Says:

Actually its most likely 0-6 start but don’t worry it’s all part of the master plan. Just be patient and accept bad football and losing. Be a true buccaneer man

  70. Trench War Says:

    @TouchDownTampaBay

    exactly

  71. adam from ny Says:

grimes should probably be on the sidelines….not dressed…with the ability to talk to his fellow corners as almost like another coach – since he has played brees a lot and can talk to them about what he sees out there…he definitely should have taken the trip to coach up the yung guns this afternoon…it’s almost like his responsibility as the elder statesman of the d-backs group…staying in tampa seems like the wrong decision – whom ever made it

  72. Buc believer Says:

I bet the Glazers made him stay home so they wouldn’t have to pay for his hotel room and his meals

  73. richbucsfan Says:

Another season in which the Bucs are shorthanded and thin in key positions. It this way every season. They will never compete in the NFC South until they have adequate depth with football smart athletes. Las Vegas is probably right…again.

  74. BucsFanSince1976 Says:

Injuries happen and that is why you add veteran talent at crucial skill positions like cornerback when the opportunity presents itself. Dominique Rodgers Cromartie was available for months (at least until a wise Raiders team picked him up) and offered the opportunity to become deeper at a skill position where the Bucs were aging and thin. I wish the Bucs well as they have been my team since 1976 , but the continued lack of quality decision making by Licht and Koetter will make success darn near impossible.
