Who May Be Available?

August 27th, 2018

Options.

Joe has stated before that Joe fully believes Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht will bring in an offensive lineman in the next week.

The Bucs offensive line is banged up badly. And four of their top six tackles have an injury or are recovering from an injury of some sort.

Of course, the crisis may be tempered some by the play Friday night of Mike Liedtke, who started against Ziggy Ansah and didn’t embarrass himself. Liedtke played in place of the injured Donovan Smith.

Sorry, but Joe doesn’t know how “I’m good” translates to the number of games expected to miss.

Today his in theMMQB.com column, Albert Breer looked at the offensive line trade market.

Offensive linemen are the hottest commodity out there on the market, making it good to be a team with any sort of depth up front. You could see it in what the Bills put in front of Allen on Sunday, and what Josh Rosen has had to operate in front of in Arizona. The league just doesn’t have enough of the big guys.

Who could be moved? Colts OT Austin Howard, Raiders OT Jylan Ware, Eagles OG Chance Warmack and Bears C Hroniss Grasu were among the names I’ve heard as available, with Howard and Warmack carrying extensive starting experience.

In the past, Licht has not hesitated to add a lineman in preseason, whether signed off the street or traded for due to a roster thinned by injuries.

Could the current asking prices, since the NFL is in the midst of an offensive lineman crisis, be too steep for Licht, thus forcing him to sift through the NFL’s recycle bin next week for an addition?

    OL, CB, LB, RB

    The list is long……….

  2. Seminole Bill Says:

    We are strong at wide receiver, with at least 2 WR’s that could play elsewhere likely to be cut. Make a trade using a WR and a future draft pick. Get Fitz some help on the Oline so we don’t end up 0-3!!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. zzbuc Says:

    CB and LB we are fine……RB is a doubt, and we are short on OL

  4. ben Says:

    Why does Licht seem to get a pass ??… His 1st and 2nd picks in the latest draft are not showing much so far . buc fans make excuses for him but nationally i wonder how he is rated.

  5. Lord Cornelius Says:

    I don’t think I’d put any of those names over Wester/Liedtke/Gardner. Those are 3 OTs the team is high on beyond Donavon Smith & Demar Dotson; and they already are familiar with our playbook/system/etc.

    Not sure what the deal is with Gardner right now but Wester is back and Dotson should be ready week 1. The team was high on Gardner I read all summer; and Liedkte has just been a nice random surprise.

    I think RG is more of the concern than OT.

  6. Casual Observer Says:

    Recycle bin.

  7. SOEbuc Says:

    Lord C

    “I think RG is more of the concern than OT.”

    Agreed. I’d like to get a stud RG (D-1 Jason) that’s high on the list in 2019 draft.

  8. Gambelero Says:

    Coax Joe Thomas out of retirement. Trade DJax to Cleveland if you have to.

  9. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    We could check in with Carl Nicks to see if his big toe has healed (When healthy, he was beastly)

    And….there’s always Kenyatta!!!

  10. Trench War Says:

    I swear I’d kick the tires on Richie Incognito

  11. BucHead5588 Says:

    I think Caleb will be fine if not put Evan smith in there I like him idk why all the hate a vet an serviceable but I think Caleb will be good this season he just been banged up an they are trying to get him to 100 % before the season starts

  12. Defense Rules Says:

    So far this preseason the only OLinemen who are NOT dinged up in some way are Jensen & Evan Smith. Thus far 4 of 5 projected starting OLinemen have been injured … no warm fuzzy feeling there. The backups are all relative unknowns with little starting experience, except for Evan Smith. The guys in the trenches make everything else happen … RBs suck if the OLine can’t run-block & the QB gets killed if the OLine can’t pass-block.

    How can we even think of sniffing the playoffs if our OLine doesn’t hold up? I’m glad you’re confident Joe that Licht will “bring in an offensive lineman in the next week.” I’m hoping that he does, but I was hoping for a veteran RB & veteran CB (and a veteran OLineman who’s versatile) since the spring and so far … NADA, ZIP, ZERO, ZILCH. All we got instead was Jason saying bye-bye to Pamphile & filling that slot with Jensen (and oh ya, he drafted Cappa who’s not ready for the big show yet). I say that for starters, Licht should see if the Raiders are willing to let Donald Penn come back home.

  13. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Yes….we cut Sweezy (right move) and pocketed his 6.5 mil…..I sure would like to see us spend some of that money on an experienced Olineman……

  14. Duthsty Rhothdes Says:

    ol licht 4.5 wins/year licht and ppl defend his dumpstr fire of personnel moves

  15. 1Gr8Buc Says:

    This team has some of the most uninformed fans i have ever seen, or they just all congregate to this site.

    Incognito?????? Really?!!! Do you live under a rock?

    Judging draft picks before the season even starts. SMH

    Saying we are thin at LB when next to WR it might be one of the deepest position groups we have.

    I bet our fanbase has a lot to do with our team never getting respect even when we were winning.

  16. Jason light Says:

    1gr8buc you really think the >45 trolls on this site that comment make up a fan base? Need the rookies and 2nd year guys to step up

  17. Gene Deckehoff is my hero Says:

    Just a reminder… Derwin James Jr and Dalvin Cook were available… just saying..

  18. Ftmyersbuc Says:

    Pretty sure incognito is at the funny farm. Guy went off the deep end, either drugs or serious mental illness. Either way he’s done with nfl

  19. Joe Says:

    Why does Licht seem to get a pass ??.

    How exactly is it Licht’s fault Vea got hurt?

  20. Buc believer Says:

    Joe… it’s Lichts fault he signed Sweezy… it’s Lichts fault he drafted Aguayo In the second round… it’s Lichts fault he drafted Ronald Jones in the second round… I could go on and on! How is it NOT Lichts fault??? SHEESH!!!

  21. DI Says:

    Please, do go on and on. I’m curious to hear how “terrible” our GM really is.

  22. Gruden4President Says:

    @TampaBayBucfan

    Kenyatta Walker was shot to death a few years back. Have some respect for the dead.

  23. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    The oline is fine. This is nothing but panic over a situation that is already handled. Mike Liedtke handled his business, and Smith is already out of his brace and without a limp. He’ll be back for game one.

    Marpet is back already.

  24. Tom S. Says:

    It was clear as day that the o-line was going to be in the bottom third of the league coming into the season. But Bucs writers and ignorant fans stare at the WR’s and TE’s like they are playing Madden and think that Licht and his atrocious free agent history and record is some all-time great GM. Stop being dumb Bucs fans/writers.

    Stop. Being. Dumb.

  25. Trench War Says:

    @Ftmyersbuc

    thanks, I just read about his funeral home ordeal ..psycho

    @1Gr8Buc
    @sswipe

  26. BigMacAttack Says:

    Dear Joe, please burn this picture.
    Thanks, Jason

  27. Pistol Pete Says:

    Kenyatta Walker is alive…although I think that was debatable when he played for us.

  28. teacherman777 Says:

    @trench

    you nailed it.

    We need Richie Incognito!!

    lol.

    Hell. They gave Redneck Riley Cooper a chance.

  29. rriddler Says:

    I hope they sign Breno Giacomini – If nothing else, he’d be good depth.
